Praise for Jude Hardin’s Thrillers: POCKET-47 sucked me in and held me enthralled. Author Jude Hardin keeps the pace frantic, the thrills non-stop, but best of all is his hero, the wonderfully ironic Nicholas Colt. This is a character I'm eager to follow through many adventures to come. —Tess Gerritsen, New York Times bestselling author of DIE AGAIN: A RIZZOLI & ISLES NOVEL
The best PI debut I've read in years, fit to share shelf space with the best of Ross Macdonald, Sue Grafton, and Robert B. Parker. POCKET-47 is so hot you may burn your hands reading. Highly recommended. —J.A. Konrath, author of the Jack Daniels mysteries
Hardin gets everything right in his powerhouse thriller debut, which introduces rock star–turned–PI Nicholas Colt. —Publishers Weekly on POCKET-47
KEY DEATH is an exhilarating thriller that punches way above its weight. It hits you hard and fast with crackling suspense, hair-raising twists and stunning revelations. Word of advice: don't start on this one unless you're prepared to stay up all night. —John Ling, author of THE BLASPHEMER
Colt is a physical, no-holds-barred PI, reminiscent of Robert B.
The story was pretty straight forward, with a list of few characters to track along the way. Not a super riveting plot by any means, but it does the job for a quick read. The format of all 7 volumes was a bit weird in the sense that if I had to read those separately I would have been very frustrated at the end of each. The author's choice to end of his first 3 or 4 volumes was with weird cliffhangers, something that would have been more appropriate for a chapter transition. Other than that, the author did a good job with the story developments.
I was disappointed. I have read all the Reacher books and apart from the premise of a genetic link, this has nothing in common with any of them.
Apart from the somewhat awkward writing style, my main criticism is of the idea that this is based years into the future. A future where cars have hardly developed at all; where people still use cash; where mobile phones are not used but are frequently used. It simply doesn't hang together.
It did work well enough for me to read all the way through, so it can't be all that bad, but it could have been a lot better.
In any action movie or book there has to be some degree of "suspension of disbelief " I gave this a 1 star for the effort the author put into writing it but that said I feel like I want a refund and payment for my time reading the series. Perhaps someone with a lower IQ would find this series entertaining but for me it was drudgerous read and I am an action fan.
I just couldn't put this 7-book series down. Taking place some 100 years in the future from when Jack Reacher lived, his clone runs across yet another of his clones. Yes, folks, there are actually clones of Jack Reacher running around (or to be more accurate A clone). After he runs across his own clone who has just been killed, Rock Wahlman decides he needs to find out why people are trying to kill him. Then he finds out that he's an actual clone of the original Jack Reacher, and evildooers simply must get rid of him, resulting in much adventure, fighting, and hijinks. These books are well written in the style of Lee Child, and Rock Wahlman is every bit as formidable as Jack Reacher as he tries to solve the puzzle of the endless string of hitmen who are chasing him hither and yon. It's a captivating read, and I recommend it highly.
This was interesting but definitely not very Jack Reacher so if that’s what you anticipate, you will be disappointed. The main character is a little thin, not physically but character-wise. I want more and deeper info. I’m glad he finds someone to love and that there is some resolution so he can have a regular life. It’s interesting to consider the clone direction but I’m not clear on the why of it. What was the ultimate point of cloning Reacher? Did the minder charges ever get resolved? Some loose ends but generally an interesting story. I loved being able to read the whole series in one shot.
Interesting futuristic series with a Jack Reacher clone
I enjoyed this series of shorter stories that follows a Jack Reacher clone through figuring out why he's being targeted for crimes he didn't commit. It occurs in the late 2090's with sketchy scientific research being used for nefarious purposes. While it's not Lee Child's Jack Reacher (one of my favorite author/series ever), it was a pretty good read.
Your imagination is only surpassed by your ability to transfer it to print! Being a former trucker, i was very familiar with all your locations, even though your views of the areas was 120 years after i drove the area!! Geography was great,Language was PG.historical progression seemed very lossible! Great read, all seven! And we cant forget KC !
I didn't know how much to trust a book based on the story of Jack Reacher. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill. But I was quite pleasantly surprised. The pacing was fast and the story line was interesting. Wahlman isn't quite as smart as Reacher, but it was still fun to see how he dealt with his dillemna.
I have seen this series and am a huge Reached fan but as it wasn't Reached I didn't get the book. Then it was available on bookbub for free so I went ahead and got it. Well started reading and couldn't put it down. Would recommend to any Reached fan.
As other's have said, "this is not Jack Reacher." And I don't think it's supposed to be. But it's a fun read and worth your time. I was bothered by the concept of 80+ years in the future, yet it doesn't seem like much has changed. Few cell phones, but lots of pay phones? I don't know if Mr. Hardin is going to continue his story, but I'd read it.
Meh. I'm a big SciFi reader so I found the attempts at a near future world to fall very short. I also felt like there were way too many coincidences needed to move the plot forward. All that being said, they were a fun read. I won't go back again like I do with the original Reacher books but I didn't feel like my time was wasted.
If you're a Jack Reacher fan this is a nice continuation of the story. It's not Jack, but Rock Wahlman is an exact clone and its 100 years after Reacher passed away. Wahlman is in all kinds of trouble and he has some very Reacher-like skills and tendencies to stay alive as he gets closer to the truth.
Nonstop, incredibly impossible escapes from the jaws of certain death...
Really enjoyed this septology of Jack Reacher ilk. Question why though the climactic ending did not lay out the missing chronology of how Kasey possibly finds ‘The Box’ and how she knew to dump the mattress into the PTS Tube...rewrite of seventh box in order here! Otherwise GREAT!!
I was ok with it up to the last five pages, how ridiculous that she could get in and save him so easily, I thought of another ending which would have made book 8, but never mind, good to read how others think the future might look. I think the part about people not using mobile phones is about right.
Great reads. Like bringing Jack Reacher back to life a hundred years after he died. Interesting ideas and good characters. I recommend getting the series all at once through this volume!!!
Plenty of action and intrigue. I'll admit i was lured by the Jack Reacher carrot. Definitely written in Child's style, which I like. Would have preffered one full length novel, versus 7 novellas. They could stand alone, but they would work better full length.
As good as the story was, it still didn't have the caliber of a Jack Reacher book. Not nearly the intriguing storyline. Still great characters but was very predictable. Will try another of the author's books.
The Hack Reached Experiment Books 1-7A Reached Uni...
I think these books earned the full 5stars. They were well written humorous interesting,& quite often riveting. I've no hesitation in advocating them for a good entertaining read.
It took a little while to get my brain into what was happening, but once into the storyline it was unputdownable. Loved it ! Look forward to reading more of Whalman.
A story that grabs you by the throat and drags you along right to the last page. Not sure it needed the Reacher connection, it was strong enough to stand on its own
Great set of books supposedly set in 2098, not much seems to have changed. These are all based around the Lee Child character of Jack Reacher, good, plenty of action.
I enjoyed the characters in this series. The end of the series was great. Lots of action, some interesting ideas about the future. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Good story line and very well written. Enjoyed reading the books. Hard to put down and wound up reading the series in two days. Have added Jude Hardin to my list of authors I am following.
Intriguing from the first page. All 7 books involved adventure and thrills with a number of twists and turns leaving the reader ready for more. Ready to start on book 8.
This series of short stories was really interesting and exciting. Together in this collection, they seemed to be more of a book than short stories, as each followed the one before nearly seamlessly. The character called Rock is the Jack Reacher of the future!
I can't believe I read the whole thing. Real sentences are still OK to use. The stories are pretty good but the writing is on an elementary school level. Condensing the books to shorter versions would help. The story line is easily predictable but I expected that.
I found the science fiction in this book a bit hard to take a nd often I forgot that the book was set in the future. The mixture of old and new seemed wrong but on reflection our course to reverse global warming may well produce an odd looking future world.
The book came to me as an ebook 4-6 and I loved it. I was able to read Amazon samples of the before and after segments. I really enjoyed Jude Hardin's writing and the story line. I hope to get a hold of all the books.
