When she wasn't riding her bike or making things out of loo rolls and scraps of fabric, Ruth spent her childhood reading about detectives and historical figures. She has written and edited countless books for Usborne - some about detectives and historical figures; some about dinosaurs, scientists and astronauts.

Ένα βιβλίο για παιδιά και όχι μόνο...
Χάριν της εικονογράφησης η πρόταση αυτή είναι άκρως κατάλληλη για όσα παιδιά θέλουν να πάρουν μία γεύση της παγκόσμιας ιστορίας ή σε όσους γονείς θέλουν να περιηγηθούν μαζί με τα παιδιά τους σε αυτήν διαβάζοντάς το βιβλίο παρέα, στον δρόμο που άνοιξε ο μεγάλος ιστορικός Ernst Gombrich με τη "Μικρή ιστορία του κόσμου".
Η διαφορά του συγκεκριμένου βιβλίου έγκειται στην εικονογράφηση και στα συντομότερα κείμενα. Το βιβλίο συνοδεύεται επίσης από χρονολογικούς πίνακες και ακολουθεί την κλασική διαίρεση των ιστορικών σε αρχαίους, μέσους και σύγχρονους χρόνους καθιστώντας έτσι την ανάγνωση πιο εύκολη.
Η επιλογή των γεγονότων που παρουσιάζονται καθιστά το βιβλίο αρκετά πλήρες, χωρίς όμως να αποβαίνει κουραστικό για τα παιδιά.
Το εν λόγω βιβλίο θα μπορούσε άνετα να περιλαμβάνεται στη σχολική ύλη, έτσι ώστε να μαθαίνουν τα παιδιά όχι μόνο ελληνική, αλλά και παγκόσμια ιστορία όπως θα ήταν το ορθό.

Kiddo (9) has developed an interest in history and was very interested in listening to this as a bedtime book. It was a good overview and timeline of world history, although some things are (necessarily) glossed over to keep it a manageable size and appropriate for kids. It's a good starting point.

The one thing it doesn't do well is differentiate between fact and story. Kiddo and I were confused at first because it seemed to be presenting David & Goliath and the Trojan Horse as factual events. However, after a closer reading we realized it had just poorly introduced them as stories.

We recently read Unstoppable Us volumes 1 & 2 by Yuval Noah Harari and I would highly recommend them alongside this book. Especially volume 2, because it covers the same events. Instead of focusing on dates and WHEN things happened however, like this one, it focuses on the WHY of them. They complement each other really well.

A brief snapshot of the world across different ages. The illustrations in the book are very creative and draws an idea of the people back then. I would recommend this to anyone who like to go through the world's history in 1 or 2 days.

En liten påminnelse om världshistorien skadar inte när man försöker förstå vad det är som händer i dagens galna samhälle. Boken innehåller världens historia uppdelad i fyra tidsepoker. Känns som att den koncentrerar sig på saker som jag tycker är intressanta d.v.s. fokuserar inte enbart på krig. Uppskattade översikten som sammanfattade de olika kontinenternas historia sida vid sida.

A little reminder of world history doesn't hurt when trying to understand what's going on in today's crazy society. The book contains world history divided into four eras. It feels like it concentrates on things that I find interesting, i.e. doesn't focus solely on war. I appreciated the overview that summarized the history of the different continents side by side.

Was für ein hilfreiches Büchlein, kurzweilig zu lesen, die Illustrationen lockern es auf und machen Spaß und helfen beim Merken. Das hätte ich während meiner Schulzeit gebraucht, es gibt so einen guten Überblick und man versteht gut die Zusammenhänge von weltweiten Entwicklungen. Das Buch ist in 4 Abschnitte eingeteilt, die antike Welt, die mittelalterliche Welt, die frühneuzeitliche Welt und die neuzeitliche Welt. Nach jedem Abschnitt gibt es eine Tabelle mit Entwicklungen und Ereignissen nach Kontinenten sortiert. Es hat mir die Augen geöffnet für die Schönheit von Geschichte und wie wichtig es ist, sie zu kennen.

A very brief narration of the voyage of human kind from its creation up to recent years. Clearly intended to be read by kids, the text is short and simple to understand and the illustrations are catchy and help retaining the interest.

Δυστυχώς, το βιβλίο εμπεριέχει αρκετά λάθη στις ημερομηνίες. Δεν έχει γίνει σωστή επιμέλεια.
