Omegas of Pandora #1

Omega's Deception

Rate this book
She never wanted to be Omega.

Ianthe keeps her freedom because her dynamic is a carefully guarded secret. Omegas are rare and highly prized, but they have no rights. An Omega is the property of whatever Alpha is strong enough to claim her. Ianthe toils in the slums, pretending to be Beta, so she can hide from a world that wants to make her a pet in a gilded cage. Legion, the Alpha and brutal cartel boss, believes her to be Beta. When he discovers her deception, nothing will stop him from claiming her.

Omega's Deception is the first in a brand new series, featuring an over the top Alpha hero in a dystopian world. This book is for anyone who likes their romance with power exchange and a splash of darkness, especially fans of Addison Cain, Zoe Blake and Loki Renard.

I'm rounding down because I'm tired of bite-sized Omegaverse serials that end w/ cliffhangers. I rated all of Wren's Song three stars for the same reason.

The world-building was interesting, the story engaging, and I recommend this to people who want to scratch an Omegaverse itch after they've read the good ones.

Yes this wan't as epic or intense as some Omegaverse, but I was into it. I also appreciated it wasn't a reverse harem. There was plenty of 'teasing' instead of the sextravaganzas that are in the Omegaverse mmfm reverse harems. This one is def worth a try.

I probably won't continue with this series. While it wasn't bad, I'm just not hooked. I might come back to it later.

I started to dabble in this “Omega” world. After reading Addison Cain books, I took a shot with this one. This world is the same, but tamer and less steamy. Don’t worry there’s still smut and steam, but I would say it has more world building.

Ianthe is an Omega, but she’s in hiding. She’s working to put food on the table for her sister and get medicine for her younger brother. But if she sells her body for one night she can have enough food and meds for a year.

Of course the girl does it.

I liked that Ianthe has to hide herself and of course the Alpha that seeks a night with her doesn’t have sex with Betas, but there’s nothing wrong with playing with them?

I liked the pace of the book and the story I was presented. It was an easy read and it hit all the right spots. I’m glad to be sucked into a new series!

My review is for all three books; I do use the spoiler function.

This is a three-part dystopian Omegaverse featuring Ianthe and Legion. She is the sole support of her poverty-stricken family; thus, she takes suppressants to hide her dynamic. He is a powerful cartel boss determined to unmask her. Throw in some political machinations and Metropolis-inspired class hierarchy and you have the beginnings of an interesting narrative. Trigger Warnings for Dub-Con, , and cliffhangers.

Short Version: I liked the first book, but the second and third are riddled with editing errors, inconsistencies, and plot holes. Between that and the too-high price for relatively short books (they're no longer on KU), I do not recommend this series and would only read more of this author if she hired an editor.

Long Version: I'll start with the positives. The worldbuilding is decent: the author provides us with Pandora's history, current socio-political structure, and economic system. Ianthe's given circumstances are equally detailed: we learn of her past, have insight into her goals and motivations, and see her interact with important secondary characters (I particularly appreciated Ianthe's connection to her family since many Omegas seem to have none; this was a refreshing change). In addition, Ianthe has more agency than many Omegas do in these stories; while I didn't particularly like Legion, he wasn't as harsh with her as many Alphas are; and I was invested enough in the supporting characters that I'd like to see them get their own books (I note that many didn't like Circe, but I found her disability and interest in science atypical, and enjoyed the sisters' complex relationship). Finally, in term of narrative and prose: the MC's conflict was high-stakes and organic since both wanted disparate things; the dialogue flowed; and some plot twists ensured suspense.

The negatives, however, far outweigh the positives. I'll start with what was actually the most important (though it shouldn't have been) and that was the sheer number of typos, missing words, and wrong words in the second and third books (the first isn't as bad). It's impossible to have any respect for an author who has so little professional pride that she publishes and charges money for such a sub-par product.

The second problem was the inconsistency, which ultimately asked too much of this reader. In the second and third books, for example, the author does a retcon when Legion tells Ianthe that he ? Ianthe's brother and sister take to . Finally, Legion's explanation for .

Lastly, as many other reviewers note, it's impossible to believe in the progression of the MC's relationship. Although I like Omegaverse, one problem I have with it is that it's often lazy writing: after all, an author doesn't need to invest much in relationship building when you can just substitute raging hormones for any true connection -- and that has happened here. At no time does Legion do anything for Ianthe that explains her at the end. He keeps huge secrets from her; spends a lot of time apart from her (indeed the MC is separated for a good deal of the last two books); and is shocked, shocked that she doesn't immediately take to her dynamic even though he refuses to let her contact the only two people in the world who matter to her. (Many Alphas in these books don't care if their Omegas are happy, but, if one does care, we better see him, well, try to make her happy.) I never felt as though Ianthe ever truly wanted what happened between them; ultimately, their relationship was all about hormones and her limited choices.

Individual Ratings:

Omega's Deception: 4 stars. This was the most interesting (my favorite part of these books is the tension between a couple as their relationship develops) and the best-edited of the three.

Omega's Capture: 2 stars.

Omega's Binding: 2 stars.

Overall, as I said above, I don't recommend unless they are on KU.

A woman who is genetically predisposed to completely submit to an Alpha...um... I didn't think I would like it , since I prefer strong women, but I felt like this heroine was actually strong. She fought against being an Omega and just wanted to live as normally as she could.

Ianthe is the sole breadwinner for her siblings, the only one physically capable of earning money, she is offered a job, which would go a long way towards surviving in the slums of Pandora, she takes it. After all, it was only for a single night at an exclusive club catering to the elite Alphas. However, Ianthe is hiding a long-kept secret, one which would be disastrous for her and her family.

Alpha Legion Aristophus controls the city and something about the woman he met that night was pulling him to her, and Legion is driven and determined to find out what that is. She is more than she seems, and her beautiful response to him spurs a hunt for all the details of her life. The truth of which, may be the ultimate prize for him.

Ianthe has been taking suppressants for years, it's dangerous to be an Omega, and with her sister and brother depending on her it's even more crucial that she appear as a Beta. Desperation drives her to the House of Eros where the Alpha Legion pays for her. Legion becomes suspicious and engineers things in such a way that her dynamic is revealed. He then quickly and brutally claims her.
Cliffhanger

******
I really like this h, she tried so hard and had been through so much but she was determined to do all she could to get her family out of the slums
I really didn't like her sister, she was ungrateful
Legion we know just a bit, he doesn't have sex with Betas so they don't go that far until her dynamic is confirmed. He was brutal, claimed her without consent after basically forcing her heat on her. It's said Legion had been with Omegas before, definitely not a fan of that little tidbit
Hot AF
I like Omega books and this one wasn't bad, on to the next as this ends on a cliffhanger

Spanking, bondage and such
Dub/Con which giving the basics of the Alpha/Omega relationship can be difficult as the Omega's body always betrays them

While the general population feels that King Rolan rules Pandora, it's the Alpha's, especially Legion, who wield the real power. Legion's role is more extreme as he owns the filtering systems that circulates the unpolluted air throughout the Astropolis. Without him, pollution and contaminated air would kill off everyone.

Ianthe ban Sarrin is living a lie. As an undocumented Omega she runs the daily risk of being discovered and arrested for dynamic concealment. A crime punishable by confinement in a work camp, being given to any Alpha willing to pay, or death. Posing as a Beta using chemical inhibitors, she's able to fool everyone.

When a chance to earn an extreme amount of credits for a single night of service at the Eros House is offered, Ianthe is forced to accept as her family needs more than she can earn to be able to survive and afford the costly chemical inhibitors necessary to continue her deception.

Eros House. A place where the elite of Alphas can purchase the fantasy experience of being with an Omega though the stable of females are all Betas. Driven to the physical needs of his body, Legion ventures to Eros House to procure a female to sate his carnal needs for a temporary form of relief until he finds his own Omega.

* * *

Warning: This is a dark fantasy Omegaverse Dytopian tale that does include abuse, dub/non-con scenes that might stretch comfort zones, and graphic sex. This sort of story is intended for fans who appreciate this form of literature. Consider yourself warned.

Warning: This is a first in serial dark fantasy erotic romance series which means the story is incomplete with many unanswered questions left hanging that ends with a major cliffhanger.
Cost breakdown on Amazon:
Omega's Deception: 131 pages/$2.99
Omega's Capture: 145 pages/$3.99
Omega's Binding: 137 pages/$3.99
no further installments in series available or published but probable ........

Discovered this highly addictive (typical of a serial) story by chance and was really enjoying the perverted dark themed story when it ended in a cliffie. Not quite a plateau or 'to be continued' sort of thing. Nope. Boom. Wish I had known that prior as I probably wouldn't have grabbed it until/unless a box set had been available. Oh well.

The actual story. Legion. The antihero's antihero in a Dystopian world. Legion wouldn't have come across believable if the author featured him as a morally upstanding good guy persona character. To survive one had to be feared, bad ass, cut throat, and an apex predator which Legion certainly was.

Ianthe. A young naive female who wasn't a predator at all. She was a simple girl responsible for her two siblings who had to use deception to escape the attention of the hierarchy who would separate her from her family and give her to an Alpha is it was known she was an Omega. Her family was all she had so she was willing to do what it took which eventually led to her downfall.

Having read all three available installments, I know where the story goes but this review is only for this one. The story culminates in a non-dub con scene that is the basis for the cliffhanger. A good move on the point of the author as I just had to know what happened next so for any potential reader who grabs this book, might as well download the next one too as I'm fairly confident you'll be in the same boat.

Problematic issues. While a serial usually does include multiple open ended unresolved story line elements, the conflicting details were confusing and sometimes irritating. One mythical not-spoiler example: if someone is shot multiple times and not treated, it's mystifying that the next scene doesn't address or resolve this as it does affect things. To play it off as it never happened is just wrong.

I leave it to any potential reader to decide if they want to purchase and read this story. I will say that for any Addison Cain fans, this book has a similar writing style so if you love A Cain, you'll more than likely love this one too.

I just can't with this one, we have an omegaverse where the omegas are rare and are treated like mindless cattle and our MC is one who is trying to hide who she is by taking hormone-altering drugs.

Then we have an Alpha who seems like a giant Jerk to me he controls the fresh air filters in a dystopian future where the earth has been torn apart by nuclear war and this Alpha has no problem shutting off the fresh air to anyone who doesn't pay him.

On to the 'BDSM' element that has way too much masochism and sadism for my liking. The first encounter between the MC and the Alpha he spanks her relentlessly until she's bruised and never actually sleeps with her the second time they meet the same thing happens except he uses a belt that time.

The Alpha simply wants to hurt her and she's only doing it because she needs the money he's paying her. But her omega genes have a sexual reaction to the beatings so it's all good, I guess?

This was just not my cup of tea at all.

Cliffhanger ending

Despite the cliffhanger ending I thoroughly enjoyed this. I really liked this author’s take on the Omegaverse, it was interesting and somewhat unique. I will definitely be continuing on with this series. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Legion and Ianthe!

There seems to be two M/F Omegaverse flavors out there. The first focuses on the pleasure from submission, while the second focuses on the idea that only pain brings pleasure. I really enjoy the former, of which Addison Cain and Zoey Ellis write wonderfully, but the latter I find hard to enjoy. This book is from the latter category, unfortunately, and I would compare the style to that of Carolyn Faulkner and Nora Ash.

Honestly, stories like this don't come off as dirty sexy to me, they just feel like abuse. In this one, Legion just hits Ianthe repeatedly when they are together because he likes to do so. He asks her to submit and call him sir, things of this nature, and even though she complies, he still tortures her. The only part of her that seems to enjoy her beatings are her dripping lady parts, and it just doesn't work for me. Part of what makes a good dom-sub situation is that the characters are building trust, forming a bond. In this story, Ianthe could be anybody, and it wouldn't matter to Legion. She is a body he can abuse for fun, and that's it. There is absolutely no connection between the two at all. I prefer when the heroine enjoys what she is doing with her partner, and in this book, that just doesn't seem to be the case.

Apart from my feelings about the MCs, the overall story is just OK. It's full of cliché Omegaverse plot points, and there's not really anything new or exciting.

Another Omegaverse story that I really enjoyed. MC's are a work in progress and by this I mean that they are growing on me though in this case it's more the H than the h that I like.
Why wasn't this a 4 or 5 star? Mainly because of its typos and grammar issues. This book is sorely in need of a good editor to the point that it became bothersome to try and figure out what it was supposed to be written.

I kid you not.

The times I have gasped in the entire 18 years of my existence could not rival the number of gasps that occurred in this book alone.

'His words resonated with something deep inside her'. 'The idea of serving him — whatever that meant — made the muscles of her belly tighten, leaving her gasping'.
'The Alpha bent towards her and her breath caught in her throat on a harsh gasp'.
'Her voice came on a shaky, hitching gasp'. 'What had she agreed to?' “Yes, sir.”
'His gaze broke from hers and she let out a gasp'.
“Do not move your hands or I will tie them.” 'She gasped something that was the closest she could manage to an affirmative'.
“Did you like it?” 'She gasped as wandering fingers glided over the hot skin of her inner thigh'.
“Mind your tone, little Beta.” 'She gasped an apology'.

The poor girl was gasping like a fish out of water every few minutes into the book. It was rather unappealing, to say the least.

Now let me try this.

I woke up with a gasp in the morning from my fitful sleep having a terrible hangover. With my mind muddled and my sight blurred, I barreled into my bookshelf on my way to the bathroom. The impact made me lose momentum, and after a while, I found myself lying on the floor gasping, like a wild boar on its last breath. The result was a pretty headache and a lovely bump the size of an avocado, which in turn made me gasp when I felt the size of it because I hate avocados. As I lay on the floor gasping, I questioned my horrible life choices.

I think you guys have at least the slightest idea about how I felt while reading this book.

That is not all, her inner and inventive musings irritated me even more than her gasping.

"His shoulders were broad and toned enough that she could not make their span even with her arms spread wide."

Girl, correct me if am wrong. Is he a streamlined boat??
Oh boy, there were so many odd monologues of her similar to this but I don't have the energy to list them all.

Our girl hates that she's an omega. Not because of her body's anatomy but because of the rules set by the government that- An Omega should be treated as property and cattle rather than a person of their own free will. They have no say in their lives. That's why our girl disguises herself as a Beta by taking oppressants from time to time to stop her heat cycles from appearing despite the side effects they inflict on her body. So that she doesn't fall prey to an Alpha and become the mindless and spineless human, others expect their kind to be.

The thing she despises more than the fact she's an omega is - The Alphas. She hates that they act like they're entitled to everything, the power difference, and the hierarchy among The Alphas, Betas, and Omegas.

So what does our girl do to stay away from The Alphas? She accepts the invitation to Eros House. There the Betas serve the Alphas with typical unquenchable desires.

Because of course that makes perfect sense and she visits the place not once but twice. Mercy on her and of the blessings of the Gods upon her, the Alpha she has to serve is the most notorious and temperamental Alphas of all because of course she's so damn lucky.

"She didn’t want to admit her fantasy to him, embarrassment enough to temper her haze. But what choice did she have?"

"What choice did she really have in any of this?"

Girl, you had the choice of not going to that damned place but since she believes herself to be a level-headed and strong and sensible character, she goes willingly again to that place after making a half-assed attempt to deny the invitation.

Atta girl! The only thing I hate more than when people lie to others is when they lie to themselves.

It's not that i'm not sympathetic to her cause. I totally under the grim circumstances she's surrounded with but it's foolish enough to go to the lion's den once undetected but twice? and hoping you wouldn't get caught? Nah girl, that's where I draw the line.

Don't even get me started on the Alpha fella, Legion. I don't even want to get into his character depth, because there was none, to begin with.

As you guys might have guessed already, she gets caught at the end.

The Alpha claims herself to him.

Now they have a sweet soul bond, which bounds her to him till death.

They have their happy ending.

Betas are the most common dynamic. They weren't strong enough to overpower an alpha and nowhere near as desired as an Omega. They were in between them too. Omegas on the other hand were the rarest dynamic and the most desired. In the name of the law, Omegas was property. It was in their biology to subservience and breed for Alphas. Alphas ruled the Astropolis and could bend anyone to their knees. They could dominate everyone and everything. That and their physical strength and appearance was one of the many reasons why Alphas controlled society.

Lathe has been hiding her dynamic her whole life. Even if concealing one’s dynamic was a punishable offense for citizens of Pandora. it was a risk worth taking. She despite the fact she was Omega. She wanted more than to be some Alphas pet to mate and breed for and She wanted to have rights and decide her own fate.

It wasn’t unheard of for Omegas to have been mated and claimed against their will. Lathe didn’t understand the great danger that came with being Omega until her parents’ death. She fears every day she steps out in public that the chemical castration will fail and her worst nightmare will come true and concealing one’s dynamic was a punishable offense

When a non regular customer makes an appearance at the cafe she worked at, dressed in a suit and very obviously not from the slums, hands her a business card and no other word. Eros house was initial as well as an address.

The man offered her a big chunk of money for playing submissive for an Alpha for a night. One night. It was only one night and she didn't have a choice other than accepting.

The Alpha was cold and emotionless but that didn’t affect what he made her feel. Lathe didn’t beg. It was in defiance of everything she stood for but at that moment all on her mind was him. And the powerful orgasms he robbed from her body. She never thought she would ever beg an Alpha to fuck her but there she was. “It’s nothing personal, sweetheart, but I don’t fuck betas.”

"Do you know what kind of girl gets wet when a man spanks her bare ass" "A b-bad girl, sir" She was reminded of him every time she sat down on her bruised bottom and he haunted her dreams. "Not Just a bad girl" She wanted to see him again and when she is given the opportunity she knew it was a bad idea but with the credits she is offered, she knew she had to. "A slut."

”Did you really think I wouldn't recognize the smell of Omega, even one full of enough alterants to sterilize a true Beta? I knew you from the first, girl." She never anticipated going into estrous at an event she was working the day at or being claimed and mated against her will in a dark corridor by him.

"I am never letting you go, Omega."

Read in KU.

Caution for those readers who don't understand the Omegaverse world as some things will put you off forever. Not for the weak-hearted.

Ianthe hates the society that she and her family find themselves in. With old Earth decimated and new Earth bringing forth a new breed of humans who are now either Alpha Status, Beta or the worst Omega. For her being Omega is a life sentence, one where society says her trait has no rights and will go to an Alpha. Hiding her nature has become second nature, and her sister helps after her parents being killed years earlier. However living in the slums is no bed of roses and to get money to move up, buy her suppressants and medicine for her brother, she caves in and go to Eros.

When she catches the eye of the Alpha Legion, her pretense of being a Beta is in trouble, but she has no idea. With his power he sends his second to determine the truth. Will her lie be the cause of hr family downfall and her own, or will she outsmart this Alpha.

Get caught up in this addition to the Omegaverse books. I liked it and if you are a reader of these types some things in this seems familiar. Read on and be entertained.

3.5 stars. This was pretty good; it reminded me a lot of another omegaverse book I read (can't think of the title/author off the top of my head). The book was super short though, and I didn't have time to connect with Ianthe yet. Legion is a mystery still so the verdict's out on him right now. It did keep my interest though and was well written, plus it's KU, so win-win. On to book 2.

I'm growing really fond of the omegaverse stories. I was looking for something to read after reading an Addison Cain book. I enjoyed this story. It had a few similarities to other books I've read but it had some unique things too. I was so caught up in the story I finished it under two hours. I really like Ianthe she isn't the normal Omega. I love a strong heroine and she definitely is a strong little Omega.
