Decoding Life Post 8/11 is the second book of Indranil Roy. The plot of the book based on Demonetization. The settings placed on Howrah, West Bengal. The title is alluring. The cover page gives you an understanding of time and money stuck with each other but, it could have been better.
The main character of this story is Arjun, an accountant. Nisha worked in a hospital as a nurse and ex-love interest of Arjun. Sunny, a misunderstood person by society and his own family. He fell into drug addiction. The story revolves around them. The author describes that how demonetization added fuel into their miserable conditions.
Arjun was Sunny's neighbor, but they share a special bond of brotherhood with each other. Sunny's father hated him because of his effeminacy. Nisha held Sunny responsible for her pain. They all suffered from their own problems, but destiny brings them all together. Arjun lost his parents in an accident, and soon he started losing all his loved ones.
There are few side characters as well which played a dominant role in the story. Indranil Roy describes how common people wait in a long queue where the wealthy ones use back-door for their filthy business. He also questions on social issues like HIV/AIDS. The way hospitals rob in the name of treatment is clearly seen in this story. The way people lost their temper when the Indian government banned 500 and 1000 rupees notes.
There are few spelling mistakes and punctuation errors. But they didn't break the flow of reading. I felt that Sunny's character is overshadowed by Arjun's.
The language is simple and easily understandable. The characters grow with the story and narration is well ordered. Indranil Roy did a commendable job in this book. One can feel the connection with characters and rage towards society. The story is fast-paced and gripping. Every instance is described neatly.
The story goes dark as the truth reveals. The characters go through an emotional dilemma. But they have each other back. Arjun and Nisha's love story touches the heart. The sacrifices they made for love and family is ill-timed but, they left with no other options. The fear of losing someone will make you things which you can never imagine. Apart from love and pain, this story is also about revenge. Revenge from those who destroy Arjun's life.
Overall, it's a good piece of work. I recommend it to everyone.

Demonetization came as a bolt from the blue to every indian on 8/11/2016.
It was a decision taken by the government which not only brought about a complete revolution in the Indian Economy but also paralysed the life of the common man. Life gets paralysed when there are sudden changes in the routine…..
This is one of the books that caught my attention, while I was browsing through the net. The blurb didn’t really interest me but I thought of giving it a try. I was completely taken by surprise, after finishing the book.
Title is interesting and different and hints the story if one remembers the incident that took place on 8/11. Cover of the book could have been better. Characterization is good and justified. Language is simple .
Praiseworthy aspects:
The unique and simple plot that takes the reader on a nostalgic ride to the past.
The consequences of the decisions taken abruptly by the government that leaves the common man crippled has been highlighted excellently.
The description of the dreadful disease HIV is still a social taboo among the society has been wonderfully explained.
Though we claim to live in a modern society some people still have a wrong notion that women deserve to be mute in the family has been portrayed well.
Shortcomings
The blurb could have been better as it fails to attract the readers.
The narration was a slow and at times I felt it was monotonous.
Final verdict:
The author has done a commendable job of weaving a plot as simple as this with a lot of twists and turns that keeps the reader glued to the book. It’s a nice fantastic read for people who wish to read a different story.

Plot:
The story is about a young man Arjun, his ex-love interest Nisha, Meher, his present girlfriend, Sunny, his younger brother like friend who has had a rough childhood and a bad teenage, Nasir, the son of a top businessman and Meher's brother, Dhruv his neighbor and a great support in every manner and many others. Every character is some or the other way is affected by the storm of ' Demonetization ' that occurred overnight in the country which was informed by the Prime Minister himself in the media.
The story amongst many characters is weaved very well. No where I found the story was losing its grip. Every incident explained, every point highlighted and every character introduced is worth praising.
This is a perfect drama that revolves around love, life, values, and relationships.
What I like:
1. The plot of the story
2. The various problems that a common man faces due to a sudden change\decision taken b the government.
3. The panic every person faces irrespective of the strata of society during a paradigm change
4. The social taboo that still persists in the society about HIV affected people, effeminacy youngsters and domination on women in some families is very well explained.
5. The blood oozing medical procedures that often are followed by private hospitals in the name of treatment are highlighted well.
6. The pathetic situations of our government hospitals which doesn't provide even normal facilities are brought into the light.
What I didn't like:
The book has so many good points that there is nothing to dislike. The book cover might have been a better one.
Characters:
All the characters are plotted very well and every character is portrayed with utmost importance.
Narration:
An absolutely delightful narration is observed throughout the story.
Language & Grammar:
A very good language and grammar are used.
My Final Verdict:

The book took me by complete surprise!
Recently, Author Indranil approached me for his book ‘Decoding Life post 8/11‘; my first impression after reading the first 2-3 chapters wasn’t that great. In fact, after that, I prayed it to be a short read. BUT (Yes, Big and bold But) sometimes first impressions tend to be wrong, and in this case, it was.
**Opening Sentence**
The cacophonic siren of the mail train ate up the vendor’s words even before they could reach their destination.
**Review**
The beginning of the book will give you the wrong notion but trust me on this when I say delve further into the book, you won’t be disappointed. The story gets very interesting as you go further. It also gets darker and darker as Arjun deals with his many situations that arise.
The book also raises many questions from our so-called modern society about HIV. I really loved how Arjun handled the whole situation of his best friend. Emotions were palpable in the story. The book gives you serious friendship goals.
The Story keeps you hooked till the end. The book is very fast paced and narration is smooth. The characters in the book are in myriad amount. Some have a small part to play and some have a big part to play, but every character is essential to the story.
**Recommendation**
Decoding Life post 8/11 by Indranil Roy is quick and easy read and indeed a decent entertainer. I say you should give it a try.

The plot is placed in west bengal. Our protagonist arjun is a accountant. Nisha(ex-lover), mehar and present girlfriend sunny. Arjun is drug addict. Story reloves around him after the demonization. everyone life is affected and everyone is struggling with there life.

Review :
Demonetization came as a bolt from the blue to every Indian on 8/11/2016. The objective was to make India corruption free, to curb the black money, to stop the funds flow to illegal activity, to make people accountable for every rupee they pocess.
It was a dynamic step by the Government. Crores of black money held in 500 and 1000 currency became just a piece of paper.
"Decoding Life Post 8/11" is a story of Arjun and his life taking twist and turns along with Demonetization.
Arjun was all set to start a new life with the daughter of rich business man Meher, running far away from his current life taking 10lakhs cash most of it in 500 and 1000 currency with them to start their new life.
The news of Demonetization forces them to separate from each other. With no other option left, Arjun heads towards his town.
However destiny had more problems to shower on him.
Kiran aunty who was like a mother to him meets with an accident and is in critical condition. Sunny, who has recently came out from drugs, kiran aunty's son, just like a brother to Arjun is badly in need of him but being not connected to Arjun, finds him alone at the hospital. Just then Nisha, a nurse and Arjun's ex-girlfriend, soon going to be the bride of someone else comes as a ray of hope and becomes the support of Sunny, later of Arjun and makes him realize what he was missing since an year.
Arjun, Nisha and Sunny saw their world tumbling down before them. Left with no other option but to combat against it, they decided to stand by each other to confront the emotionally catastrophic situation together.
Arjun is devasted with the death of Kiran aunty and the news that reveales Sunny as HIV+, and his brother Arvind's murder.
Arjun is not just expected to perform his emotional duties but continuously put under the pressure to count and exchange the black currency which was accumulated at his office by his boss. While the nation was struggling to get in terms with the unprecedented economic turmoil, they had other social evils to stand up against as well.
⏩The book takes us back to the situations of Demonetization when along with corrupt people even normal Citizens were in need of new currency but the only difference was when normal citizen stood in long queue to exchange the currency, the people with black money were exchange bundles of currencies from the back door using their high status and connections.
⏩The story unfolds the narrow thinking about HIV+ patients, dreams being shattered and a normal person turning to be a drug addict by being bullied from everyone throughout his life.
⏩The affection of Arjun towards Sunny and his fight to save him first from the society and then from his disease is heart touching.
⏩The character of Nisha as a friend, as a lover, as a nurse, as a supporter is narrated beautifully.
⏩Anyone who has committed sin over the innocent must be punished in their own way. Arjun's payback in the story is Very effective.
⏩The last mail sent by Arjun to Nisha expressing his feelings, remembering their 7 years of relationship and the justification about the decision he took for Sunny was very emotional.
I recommend the book to everyone.
Demonetization is phase that we all have passed through and thus every reader can relate themselves to this book.
A true Hritik Roshan fan must pick up this book as the dialogue from one of his film "Guzarish" becomes the final request of Sunny.
Language is simple and easy to understand.
The story is very relating and gripping.
Book cover is designed very well.
Characters are well plotted.
The feelings, relations, and the gratitude factor will surely touch the reader's heart.
Narration is very clear.

Demonetization was a big step taken by the Prime Minister of India which shook the nation altogether. Suddenly the currency was deemed to be illegal which created a havoc in the nation. The most affected people were the middle class and the poor who had to stand in long queues to get the new currency. This historical decision was made to curb the black money but the execution was very bad. The ATMs were blocked, there was poor management, The rich were privileged since they got to change their money without standing in the queues etc etc.
The book ' Decoding Life Post 8/11 ' is set up in the time when the PM just declared that the legal tender money was no more legal. The story is about Arjun and his struggles with his friends during Demonetization. The story begins with the protagonist Arjun running away with his lover Meher to start a new life. Just then they got to know about the declaration of demonetization because of which they both knew that the future they were planning was now impossible. The money they carried was just paper now.
Meher's sister separated both of them and warned Arjun to not contact her anymore. Arjun was upset and heartbroken but a call from his brother Sunny made him forget about Meher. He boarded the train to his native place and upon reaching he got to know that Sunny's mother was in a critical condition. The biggest problem now was that they needed money which was hard to get due to demonetization. Arjun being a smart guy he arranged the money but the doctors weren't able to save his mother.
The news of his mother's demise left them heartbroken but the revelation that Sunny was an HIV patient shook Arjun. Nisha, Arjun's ex was the one who took care of Sunny because of which he was thankful to her but Nisha's presence made Arjun attract towards her again. But Arjun had no time to deal with love. He had responsibilities to look upon. Will Arjun be able to save Sunny? Will he be able to get over Meher and Nisha? Will demonetization dampen his spirits ?
The author has beautifully penned down the story taking into account the affects demonetization had on people. I loved how the characters were introduced and developed. My favourite character was Arjun because he was a loyal friend and partner. The story was fast paced and smooth. The twists and turns kept me hooked to the book. The language is easy and understandable. Overall I loved reading the book.

First of all I would love to thank the author, for giving me the opportunity to review this wonderful book. Decoding life post 8|11 is set in the time of demonetization. It was the time when our honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi declared that the legal Rs 500 and 1000 rs notes are not atall legal now. The money which were very valuable an hour ago are now only piece of papers. The story revolves around Arjun, the protagonist, who struggled a lot with his friends after the demonetization. The book starts with the elopement of Arjun and Meher but the elopement failed due to demonetization. Later they were separated by Meher's sister, Riva. A phone call from Sunny made him forget everything. He ran back to Howrah as soon as he got to know about the accident of Sunny's mom, Kiran Aunty. He solved the problem of cash as it was difficult to arrange money at the time of demonetization. Arjun met his ex, Nisha at the hospital, who somehow began taking care of Sunny after his mom's dismissal. Everyone got a shock when Sunny revealed that he is a HIV patient. Nisha took care of Sunny and Arjun gets attracted towards her knowing the fact that she is going to marry Dr. Sanjiv. What happens next in story, no no I'm not gonna tell you that. Pick up the book and find out whome do Nisha choose and also what happens to Sunny, Nisha and Arjun.
First of all I really appreciate the author for choosing such a wonderful topic. The book just very on very beautifully. The way of writting is brilliant. The story was fantastic. I loved each and every character. Also every issue related to demonetization was there in the book. This book is Wonderful. It's Amazing. The story went on smooth. The unexpected twists keep me hooked. The climax was a surprise. I didn't thought about it to happen.I really loved reading it. Recommended to everyone!!

Indranil Roy is a teacher by profession- He authored the much-applauded novel, The Man Behind the Teacher’s Desk.
The cover shares the first imprint- currency in a bubble hiding the glare. The blurb indicates that this book will talk about a highly debatable topic in recent times- The demonetization. The settings are placed on Howrah, West Bengal. Honestly, the blurb could have been better as it miscarries to give that impression. I would have loved if the blurb specified a bit more of demonitization trauma.
The story deals with friends and family dealing with an emotive crisis. It seems there were just unlucky or were they?
As Indranil mentioned it right in the acknowledgments, the simpler the better. This book positions out to a simple laid-back read and every chapter has its own essence. The essence of dark reality and retribution.
Another comical take is how the value of 100 rupee note during the demonetization period increased. Personally, I have no abhorrence towards demonetization as an idea- a historic pronouncement indeed, but it could have been managed better and Indranil’s story takes the same idea in this book.
Talking about the characters inside, I felt it was crusty and fitting to the story and the character development was ease and arduous. Indranil has made a modest effort to keep the story hassle-free and unpretentious.
This is a highly recommended read as this book takes you to a roller coaster dark and disheartening story that some have painstakingly suffered in the demonetization phase.

Plot: Demonetization came as a bolt from the blue to every Indian on 8/11/2016. Most people were hurt financially, while Arjun, Nisha and Sunny saw their world tumbling down before them. Left with no other option but to combat against it, they decided to stand by each other to confront the emotionally catastrophic situation together. While the nation was struggling to get in terms with the unprecedented economic turmoil, they had other social evils to stand up against as well.
My opinion: First of all, a big round of applause for the author for writing on such a current topic i.e, Demonetization. I definitely loved the concept of the book. This was a very fresh and gripping read. We Indians & specially the common man faced alot of problems when our- PM announced about the sudden news of Demonetization which turned our world upside down. The book talks about the problems faced by a common man during such a social calamity. Cover could be better.
Pros: Though it's a fiction book but the book felt very realistic, characters were mentioned with depth. Loved the narrative part & writing style of the author. Various other social taboos are also discussed in the book very well, such as HIV, which I definitely liked. Also, the author tried his best to cover as many social topics in the book to invoke awareness. The language was easy & lucid. Highly recommend & it's a must read.
Cons: The various sub plots could have been more stable rather sudden. I am excited to read more such books by the author.

This is a plot based novel, narration was a bit slow in the beginning, but later on it became gripping.

As the clock struck 8 pm on November 8, 2016, India came to a standstill as the PM of India announced one of the most ground breaking changes in Indian Economy- Demonetization. Indranil Roy, through his book ‘Decoding Life Post 8/11’ , portrayed the effect demonetization had on the life of a middle class family. Set in Howrah, West Bengal, the story starts starring Arjun, the protagonist, on the run with his partner, carrying a bag full of cash. It so turned out that the announcement of the ‘Big News’ hit hard on them and they had to part their ways. Arjun kept the valueless bag of money with him and returned back to Howrah, to his neighbour and more-like-brother Sunny.
Sunny was always hated by his father because of his effeminacy. He went into drug addiction to get over the trauma caused by his friends. With no one by his side but Arjun, Sunny was completely dependent on him. Arjun on the other hand was helpless for he didn’t know how to pay for Sunny’s treatment. His ex Nisha, however, was like a guardian angel protecting them both. But there lies trouble ahead. With society’s myths and discrimination towards HIV patients, and an almost zero bank balance, Arjun needs to find a way out. Read the book and find out what blatant act Arjun is about to play.
My views- This book finely portrays how the poor and the middle class people are always dominated by the wealthy ones. While we had to stand in long ques outside the bank, the wealthy ones carried their work shamelessly through the backdoors. Not only does it talk about the crisis of middle class people, but also the social taboos regarding HIV/AIDS. I loved how these issues were talked about and brought into the plot. However, at times the story was slow paced. I expected more plot twists. The narration is good, could have been better. Overall, a good read. I wasn’t disappointed with the book.

An interesting cover design which shows an replica of a sand timer which has a shrinked old 500 rupee note which symbolizes the future of note and the title Decoding Life post 8/11 gives the reader an idea the plot if about the one of the important dates in Indian history which is "Demonetization"
The plot of few young people namely Arjun,Nisha,Mehar and Sunny. The story of the after effect of the lives after the Prime Minister out of the bloom descaled note ban or Demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 post mind night of November 8.
The plot not only focuses upon the impacts of Demonetization, along with that the author has done a commendable work plotting down various social issues namely drug addiction and cases of HIV.
I was very impressed by the characterization and certain scenes of book like waiting at the ATM and trying withdrawal of the amount which is not a multiple of 500/1000 so that it doesn't come , these were few thing which we did during that period.
The language used in the book is simple and easy to understand . Speaking of the narration of the plot, I could say the author has written a plot which outlines many things which were easily recognizable and relate-able to the readers

Just then they got to know about the declaration of demonetization. Through there are some side character but I liked the character Dhrub who is the neighbour of sunny is very helping hand in nature. And I liked the most, the letter which Arjun wrote to Nisha which is very heart touching.

The plot is waves around four people Arjun, Meher , Nisha and Sunny. The story is all about the decision which is taken by the goverment of India about the demonetization and how it's effect on people and how the four characters are suffered for this decision.
The author beautifully narrated the whole story. He presents the demonetization and some social issues, specially how the H.I.V patients suffers at present days.
The language is simple. All the characters are well portrayed. I like the character of the tea vendor. The story is fast paced and very well narrated.
Overall its a worth reading for me.
I would definitely recommend to all.

The book is quite depressing right from the start. The lives of the characters play with the immediate effects of demonetization. It comes on Arjun’s shoulders, again and again, to deal with the money issues.
I like how the author showed the importance of friends when one doesn’t have much family in times of death and suffering. I had also never read about an effeminate man’s struggles and appreciate the author for writing about it.
Even though the book makes you sad, it keeps you hooked. The writing style is simple. The romance was also carried out well.
The book incorporates a number of issues including abuse, the inefficiency of medical treatment, discrimination, and drug addiction.
I loved that the author wrote a fictional story simply showing the effects of demonetization on a group of common people.

"Decoding Life Post 8/11 by Indranil Roy is a fiction story which is mainly based on common man's problem who suffered due to demonitisation announcement by the Honorable Prime minister of India on social media without any prior information.
The novel starts with "The cacophonic siren of the mail train ate up the vendor's words even before they could reach their destination."
This book was given to me by the author itself in exchange of an honest review and am thankful to him for this great book.
The characters are vivid and essential to the story. The language is also simple and good and written in great terms as well.

When Arjun and Meher decide to elope in the hope of finding a utopian world of their own, their dreams come crashing down like a house of cards. Demonetization of notes drives everyone up the wall. In the fit of panic and anxiety, Meher decides to call it quits leaving Arjun at the altar. In the same world, at the same time, Sunny, Arjun’s friend, is caught in the whirlpool of emotional and financial instability as his mother’s condition becomes critical.

I am sorry to say but this book is a total washout. Nothing engages you, the story plot or characters. The story tries to tell about a characters thrown in their personal drama amidst demonitization that suddenly hit in our country, in the year 2018. But that research too seems to be inconclusive, inadequate and story is all chaos & incohesive, missing a jelly that keep the plot together. there's nothing interesting about the story or character interaction. I never had to give only 01 star to any book in the past. This one breaks that record.👎Even reviewing seemed like a time waste.

Where many politicians shy away from writing topics focused on the disastrous step taken by the current government of India. The author has crafted the story in an amazing way which will give the readers true flavor of the society. This is a bold attempt mixed with brilliant narration and classy plot.

The pace of the book is fast in the beginning but in the middle sometimes it tends to get a bit monotonous, but the compelling storyline hides it beautifully. The narration is also noteworthy. Nowhere had it felt like the story is going downhill. The simple language also helped the book to make a stand.

The author has presented a very unique and interesting story to the readers with elements of thrill and fun. The writing is good with a tight narration and detailed description of the demonetization that took place . Though the story was a little predictable at parts, it kept me engaged. It is a pretty easy and quick read, especially to be read between two intense books.

This is second book by the author; it is set in West Bengal. The book focuses mainly the issue of demonetization and has touched many social issues such as HIV. The book is a perfect read for new age fiction readers and has lot things to learn.

The only defect that one can find in this novel is its cover. Apart from this everything is set in place by the author. The story is gripping and has focused on very current topic. The readers will enjoy and also learn the consequences of demonetization and its impact on the common people.
