Best-selling author Jennae Cecelia is back with another poetry book, but this time with a twist. Dear Me At Fifteen is half poetry book and half self-expression journal. It is to not only inspire you to be the best version of yourself today and in the future, but for you to reflect on all the growth you have made. This book is meant for you to dig deep into yourself and answer questions you don’t always take the time to think about.
Jennae Cecelia is a bestselling author and poet, recognized for her books The Sun Will Rise and So Will We and Healing For No One But Me and the viral “I met my younger self for coffee” poem. Starting in 2016, she self-published her debut book which became a #1 bestseller on Amazon. Her mission is to write words that comfort and resonate deeply with her audience. Jennae spends her time creating custom poetry for readers, turning her poems into illustrated pieces, and teaching other authors how to share their writing with the world.
Part poetry, part journal where you can express your thoughts and creativity, Dear Me At Fifteen had some really interesting questions. A few did feel a little repeated, as in same concept but worded differently. As I read a digital edition of this, there was no way to input how I was thinking and then have an option to save it, so it's a great idea but needs a little way for interaction on a digital scale.
Well, when i first ordered the book I didn't really read the description and didn't think there was like a reflection on every single page! Anyway, I started with filling out the beginning of the pages.. but not even halfway through, I felt like it was getting repetitive. Like the writing prompts felt like it was the same question just phrased different. I don't know this wasn't my favorite!
i cant really remember this book, hence the 3 stars, but it was still incredibly interesting and full of hope and love so obviously i enjoyed reading it
this was a fun little read and I really appreciated the interactive aspect of the questions she would ask for you after each poem it was really nice in case somebody wanted to delve into poetry or maybe get a little bit of journal writing experience it was really nice and it wasn't anything too crazy or hard to follow. nice little prompts that went with each piece that she had.
I should have read more about this book before purchasing. Instead of a thoughtful poetry collection, it’s mostly short, Tumblr-style quotes followed by repetitive journal entry pages for the reader to fill in. It felt more like a guided journal than an actual poetry book. If you’re looking for something with depth or meaningful storytelling, this isn’t it. I was not impressed.
Book is half poems have do it your self writing, found that it got repetitive in the middle and to me the end poems where okay but the questions felt like they where random ? If that make sense like they where an after thought.

It was a little redundant, but I really wish I had gotten this book when I was 15! I think some questions would have been more relevant to me back then
When I picked this up I didn’t realize it was half journal half poetry. I thought the poetry was pretty good and kind of inspiring but I didn’t get that empowering kind of drive that I like to get out of poetry books. I like the self-care aspect and using your anxiety and taking care of yourself and taking charge of your life. It just didn’t give me that exceptional feeling. I love all of her works this one just wasn’t the same for me.
Postive reflections coupled with thoughts on self care. Each page is a reminder to be kind to yourself 💗 — It is followed by asking you to write your thoughts and I plan to, one, everyday.
Last month I read a few collections by this poet and they really left a mark on me. This collection wasn't as great as the others.
This wasn't all poetry but a journal with questions to express your own thoughts and feelings. Sadly, reading this in digital format, I wasn't able to make use of the idea in the book itself. I know, pen and paper, people! However, I didn't jot anything down as I could just as easily have done it in my mind. It's a poetry book but it's also a self-help book which was an okay mix even though I'm not a fan of poets mixing the two. Just publish two different books for their own purposes. Some of the questions are more aimed at someone who is around the age of 15 so I didn't even focus on answering them all because of the lack of relevance to me. Overall, it was a nice read but became repetitive at some point.
i'm envious of anyone that has a physical copy. this is a really good book of journaling prompts. very self-reflective. the kind of book you really do want to give your younger self and demand they read it.
this is a really cute and unique quote book with space to write your own thoughts. it differs from a typical poetry book because it's also a journal. if you love short, inspirational quotes and journaling, this is a great book for you!
I’ve speed read this book but in reality it’s meant to go through it, slowly and taking your time with it. My goal for the next month is to reread it and actually write down my answers to all the questions.
Beautifully uplifting book and full of positivity. Found myself taking pictures of pages to use for inspiration elsewhere to give people an uplifting vibe as well. I didn't realize there would be a reflection on every other page, and soon enough I began skipping them to be honest. I didn't feel it was necessary for the book itself. I mean, if you're reading it as a self help book, yes I can definitely see it as necessary. But if you're just reading it for the beautifully written poetry, skip the reflections, I'm serious lol.
I love how much it talked about anxiety and self love, and how you wish you could hide your anxiety and get rid of it. One of the quotes was "I know my anxiety may annoy you but imagine being the one with it." and that really struck home with me. Because I know people who get annoyed with my anxiety, or just simply don't understand it and think I'm overreacting.
Another one of my favorite quotes in the book was this one: "Remove the people from your life who make you feel like you can hardly breathe from all the toxicity."
People have left my life over the years for several different reasons, but I've also cut people out of my life due to the toxicity they brought to it. This quote really stuck with me and I really enjoyed it.
Overall I give this book 4/5 stars just because of the reflection pages. I wasn't a fan of those. Like I said if you're reading this as a self help book, totally read it for the reflections because they ARE helpful. And it mostly contains making lists or small sentences, and small paragraphs and then going onto the next quote, and then to the next reflection following the quote.
I recommend this book to anyone who struggles with self love, anxiety and depression.
To be honest I expected this book to be different. In a kind of way it has disappointed me, but on the other hand I was impressed. I thought that the poem were like some kind of advice that the woman wanted to give to her fifteen years old self. Or — I don’t know — maybe explaining to her young self that it’s okay to feel some kind of emotions and that whatever we feel it’s ok to feel in that way. This is how I expected it to be, instead it turned out to be completely the opposite. I didn’t really enjoy the “poem’s part” because I’ve felt that they were just easy quote that could have a deep meaning but nothing personal that comes from the inside of the author. I just felt like I was reading some casual quote that you can easily find on Pinterest or Tumblr. The part that I liked the most of this boom was the “journal part”. I think that I’ve never written do much in my entire life. The question made me think about thing that I’ve never thought about and they made me look deep inside myself to find the answers. Answering to the questions calmed me down, it was kind of a healing process for my anxiety because made me think and focus on other things.
“When anxious thoughts appear in your mind, what would you want to tell yourself at that time to help you get through it?”
I feel as though some of the messages would appear on my instagram feed and some of them were written just for me. I feel a kind of comfort knowing that this person felt what i feel now, at fifteen.
My Parents think I’m too young to be “depressed” or “worry about everything and anything”. They tell me to enjoy my youth but it’s difficult so I’m happy that some of these messages in the book helped me find a type of peace in my worrying.
Also thanks for encouraging me to go talk to my ex, am doing that right after i finish this review😁👍.
Dear Me at Fifteen by Jennae Cecelia is filled with beautifully written poems alongside thought provoking questions.
“You have the POWER to tell a STORY never heard.”
Jennae’s words are encouraging and much needed in this fast paced life that sometimes leaves us reeling and exhausted at the end of the day.
I decided to NOT write in my book because I want to gift it to my niece for her birthday. This is the perfect gift for poetry lovers or anyone who loves to be spurred on to journal and discover themselves while enjoying poetry.
Dear Me At Fifteen is a unique take on a poetry collection and self-expression journal. It makes you think about yourself in a different light and it takes you on a journey. The poems and inspirational and well designed. The journal entries are thought-provoking. I felt motivated to be a better version of myself after reading Dear Me At Fifteen. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a motivational read. To read my full review: https://www.boundtowriting.com/nation...
Although this book did not have much depth, I think the messages and reminders are crucial to everyone. Take the time to prioritise yourself when you need it.
‘You don’t have to pretend you are ok if you are not. Your mental health is just as crucial as your arm hanging off’.
‘Some days even doing mundane tasks like tying your shoe, or brushing your hair can feel so mentally exhausting when you are anxious or depressed. You got this though, lovely. Even if your victory is getting dressed’.
This is an amazing book. I read it on Kindle, but I need to order the paperback copy because it will make an amazing motivational guided journal. It has the perfect reflective questions and very beautiful quotes throughout the entire book. I was expecting it to be a “note to self” kind of book when I first purchased it, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out! 🖤
Every single quote in this book has filled me with positive vibes and cheerful energy. I could hang every quote on my wall so I can feel inspired every time I wake up.
This book was alright. Sometimes generic but overall good. I really liked all the questions & writing exercises in between as well. While I didn’t stop to write them, it helped to stop and think about my answers to them. 3/5 stars - generic but otherwise good
“Happiness will wait for you, so don’t worry about it leaving.”
This was a good collection of thoughts followed by journal prompts. I would highly encourage someone who is looking for a wellness type journal to read this collection.
I loved the mini verses and the journal prompts, they just don't translate very well to the kindle edition (hard to quote for future reference) but a nice read. I'm a sucker for anything involving messages to my younger self.
More an opportunity to take on making a guided journal than I thought so would have benefitted from a printed copy but the poetry was good and the exercises encouraged though
