Bear Mountain #21

A Monster for Two Bears

Rate this book
Sent away for their own safety, Kai and Lane have lived away from Bear Mountain for nearly a decade. Calls from home finally bring them back for an extended visit. Lane’s papa is ill… and Kai needs to confront the demons of his past—namely the death of his father, Gregor, and his brother’s part in it.

Declan is happy his younger brothers have finally come home and now is his chance to convince them to stay. Only it’s more difficult than he expected it to be. His brothers are happy with the new lives they’ve built for themselves and they don’t want to return to the valley.

Only Kai and Lane come face to face with a true reason to stay, a broken, battered male—one of the freed Zed victims who’s struggling to find his way in a new world.

Turi’s struggle for mental health makes him skittish at best. The instinct to surrender is at war with his own inner demons. He pushes Kai and Lane away, refusing to accept himself as worthy of love.

Will he push them all the way out of Bear Mountain—or can they help him find the peace he needs to heal before it’s too late?

SHE'S BACK!

One of my favorite authors is back to writing one of my all-time favorite series, and I'm SO SO happy to see us going back to Bear Mountain!

This picks up after the Project Zed series as well as the first 5 books in Midnight, Mississippi series. Bear Mountain has changed a lot, grown and developed into more of a city, and is home to a lot more than just bear shifters now. Kai is Gregor's son, brother to the current alpha, Declan. He and his brother bear, Lane, were sent away 10 years ago for their own safety when all the drama first happened.

Ten years have gone by and Kai and Lane, and LJ and his brother bear, are still living in Chicago. They are asked to come home - and they begrudgingly do. There is a lot of hatred and anger still between them all, for how they were sent away and stayed away, to Gregor's death and them not knowing everything that Gregor was doing behind the scenes.

While Kai and Lane are back in BM, they discover their mate - Turi, a lion shifter who was part of the Project Zed experiments. Turi is surviving, not really living or coping from his nightmarish time with Zed, and he understandably freaks when he discovers his mates. But with the support of Kai and Lane, Turi is able to start to heal and move on. I really loved how Cal and Samuel from PZ tied into this, heartbreaking as it is.

I loved the writing in this, it was like a perfect blend of BM and Zed. Zed is my favorite series from this author, and I'm so glad she's continuing with elements of that series.

I wouldn't recommend starting with this book - this would be a hard series to just jump right into. But if mpreg, threesomes, shifters, and seyhottimes are your thing, you MUST give this series a try!

Oh now... this was good. It was great to sink right back into Bear Mountain even though it's been months since I last read one of the series.
Kai and Lane and all the brothers was a tad confusing, but I finally got all the connections straight in my head by 1/3 through. Kelex warns, but I'll second her into about not reading this if you haven't read the series, and I mean both Bear Mountain and Project Zed.
Interesting villans!! Sweet Omega!! And bears... and bears... Sigh.

This was a really great installment to the bear mountain series/ project zed series. Honestly, I haven't read all the bear mountain books, but I have read all of project zed books. I would highly recommend being somewhat familiar with the plot of both series before reading this book, but you could read it as a standalone, you just might be a little lost.

I really enjoyed this plot and was really glad to finally get a book about one of the omega monsters from zed. Turi was an amazing character, and even though I wanted to be frustrated with him sometimes, I just couldn't considering everything he's been through. I genuinely felt his pain and the struggles he faced opening up to his mates: Kai and lane. The conflict with Kai's uncle Benny was perfectly portrayed; it gave life to the plot and helped the growth of the characters without distracting the growing relationship between the three of them.

I took away .5 stars because I wish we could have gotten a little more of their relationship once they finally got all their dirty laundry out. Sometimes it felt like Turi was just an outsider looking in on Kai and Lanes already formed bond (which was a given considering the inner conflict he was going through). Once Turi finally felt like an equal in the relationship the story ended. Maybe it's because I just really loved these three that it was hard to let them go. I want to be able to read them for more hours and through more of their journey because I know the three of them could have had so much more to say.

All in all, I'm a sucker for any book Kelex releases and this one is no different! Can't wait for the next one.

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

Perfection. This was a perfect book to resume the series. I missed my bears and this book is everything that is great about this series...family, camaraderie, a little bit of evil drama, an amazing, AMAZING (made me teary eyed) reunion, great sex and, as always, great news at the end. I have no complaints. I was SO happy to see that there was a new book and this just fit the bill!

Looking forward to LJ and Chase's book.

Great Read!

I absolutely adored Turi, Lane & Kai. Turi’s past trauma was so awful but seeing him fall in love and getting professional help was wonderful. I really am not interested in short books so I haven’t read much by Kelex but the two I’ve read have been great.

Great red!

Terrific story. Great to see those from previous books!
So much going on in this story but it was all nicely wrapped up by the end...with a new mystery to unfold.
I am a sucker for a book with redeemable characters, hotness, romance and some butt whooping!
Cannot wait to read the next in this series. I am sure Cole and JT's story will be well worth the wait.
