I’m the Seattle Sharks’ power forward.
The rising star. The sniper. The skater.
On the ice, I’m invincible.
Off the ice, there’s room in my heart for only one girl:
my five-year-old niece.

When my addict sister leaves Hannah on my doorstep with nothing but a backpack and a note full of excuses, my entire life shifts.
Playoffs or not, keeping my niece out of foster care is my first priority.

I need help...from anyone but her.

Ivy Harris.
Coach’s other daughter.
Gorgeous, smart-mouthed, reckless.
Hannah’s new BFF and favorite babysitter.
Ivy’s been under my skin since she clicked into my life on four-inch heels.
The same heels I just caught Hannah playing dress-up in.

But Ivy’s never been able to color inside the lines,
and with Hannah’s future hanging in the balance,
I can’t chance stepping outside them—no matter how badly I want to.
Ivy and I fight like pros until our mouths are too busy kissing.

The line between enemy and lover is blurry, and if we can’t figure out what we mean to each other, it will cost us everything in the end...including Hannah.

Didn’t like it and not safe for me.

Ivy was seeing a team member named Crosby - a womanising skeeve. Despite dating him, she didn’t sleep with him annnddd he dumped her when she didn’t put out.

Connor the H, is another guy on the ice hockey team and frankly he came in with the double standards and gaslighting. Really attracted to Ivy, butt hurt she never noticed him, angry she dated Crosby - who was kicked off the team, confused as to why she nearly ruined Erik and Peppers (her twin’s) relationship in the last book - she had her “misguided” loving reasons.

But Mr Judgy Judgy is still having casual sex after meeting her. Living his best life. Looking after his niece. But he shames her constantly for having a relationship/“sex” with Crosby. Blames her. And SO WHAT. So what if she actually had sex with a man who she was in a relationship with. She doesn’t owe you. 🤷‍♀️ In fact the first chapter he’s kicking some girl out of his bed.

Maybe.... maybe if he wasn’t doing the same thing, yes he is within his rights to feel disappointed since he is attracted to her. But shaming her...😶

Homegirl also sees his sex toys for his escapades bc he’s meant to be sexually adventurous and I swear the hero teaching thing gets me gagging in any book. Like tyvm but fuck off with your fur lined handcuffs you mug. 🤘

And when she admits in a fit of anger she never did have sex with Crosby, suddenly Connor is a changed man. Twice as “possessive”. Nah mate.😑

A lot of extra bs that happened but this is enough for me.

Okay while I really hated the argument between Conner and Ivy because it felt rushed and didn't feel entirely necessary I still enjoyed this book.

No forbidden romances or unplanned pregnancies. Thats a win lol.

No but for real it was a good book. Ivy and Conner were good together and had kind of an enemies to lovers thing going on. Their banter was good and i was invested in their romance.

Also one tiny note... this book there's was quite a bit of grammatical errors that I noticed a lot throughout this book. I'm sure the others had some too but this one I noticed because it pulled me out of the book a few times.

connor’s sister, jessica, leaves her 5 year old daughter hannah at his door with a note saying she won’t be coming back. connor loves his niece and is more than willing to take on this responsibility, he gets the help from ivy, when he’s off at practice. ivy is a reporter for the seattle chronicle who is struggling to find a good piece, refusing to write about gossip. connor struggles to form a friendship with her, but they have to work together to give hannah some stability - and what’s wrong with that??

———thoughts/opinions/spoilers

ok so connor being like THAT during the beginning made me mad, because eric + pepper already forgave ivy for what she did, literally in their book!!! so what gives??

we get it, he was in ✨enchanted✨ by her but crosby scooped her up first and then he didn’t even hear her out for anything and just assssssumed - but also who cares??? mr man was fully sleeping with someone at the beginning of the book so it’s stupid that he has double standards lmfao

onto i guess the good and better, i loved the dynamic between ivy, connor and hannah 🫶 also the way the rest of the sharks and their wives were willing to help out whenever needed like yay for found family 😮‍💨

similar to the other books, you can totally see how they tried to set up the next few books but sometimes i feel like it be reaching a lil — will i still read it? obviously 100%

lastly, yes there were many grammar/spelling errors that i simply had to close my eyes to

An enjoyable read. Once Connor got over his anger over what Ivy did to Erik in the previous book, he was able to really see her. And I give Ivy so much credit for embracing Hannah and helping Connor, even when he was such a jerk to her. I also love how the Seattle Sharks is really one big family. They always try to be there for each other!

After the last book I was looking forward to this one. Wanted to see what was going to happen between Connor and Ivy and of course there was the cutie Hannah. I really love that Connor was the safe place for Hannah to land, that she knew if/when she was at her uncles things would be fine. I also was very glad that the last time her mother brought her there, she didn't realize how bad things were going to be. Connor stepping up to be the best person in her life was great! He wasted no time making sure Hannah's place in his life was secure and they were set for the long haul.

The relationship between Connor and Ivy was fun. I liked that it didn't happen right away, but took time to build. I also like that once they decided they were something they didn't hide it from Hannah or the team. I hated the drama that happened at the end, was glad that things got cleared up, even if it took an intervention from Connor's friends.

The ending to this one was perfect, loved how the family celebrated their milestone and how things look in the future for them.

4.25 stars. I was hesitant to jump in as I wasn’t a huge fan of Ivy in Pepper’s story. I was pleasantly surprised as I ADORED her and Connor together! They were so sweet together and their individual relationships with Hannah were both amazing. I wasn’t a huge fan of Ivy’s work storyline, but understood why it was there. I’m so glad I decided to read it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhh I definitely love Samantha Whiskey hockey players <3
I had read "Axel" a while ago and fell in love with the big-hearted Swede. So in these sh*tty times and with me being tired of work and all, I told myself that I needed romances that would make me melted ... And what could be cuter than a hockey player who adores his little niece ??
So OK sometimes I wanted to hit him (especially seeing how he judges Ivy at the beginning without knowing what he is talking about and ESPECIALLY this horrible scene where he thinks she betrayed him and he refuses to listen to her ) but they were both very cute and I loved seeing Ivy and her career as an "ethical paparazzi" =D
In short, a light and sexy romance for all sports fans ... and especially athletes fans =D
PS: WHERE IS THE BOOK WITH SHEA ??? Because Porter <3
From the moment they first met Connor Bridgerton fell head over heels for Ivy Harris, but while he was checking her out, she was checking out one of his teammates... talk about hurt! So, he let her go without a fight, she obviously didn't feel the same way that he did, so why torture himself any further.
He decided they'd just be friends instead, then she went and did something completely unforgivable and it drove a huge wedge between them, one that had him doubting everything he thought he knew about her, so he put distance between them. But that didn't last too long because his adorable five year old niece took a shine to Ivy, and for the sake of his niece he decided he could play nice. But with her constantly breezing in and out of their lives, unknowingly taunting him, little by little that damn crush came sneaking back up on him!
Now armed with the knowledge that she is a free woman, he has considered making a move, but Ivy still doesn't seem to be interested... she is a master at giving mixed signals. One minute he thinks he has a chance, and the next he isn't so sure... but little does he know divine intervention is about to shine down on him, and give him what he has been craving all along, Ivy's time and full attention!
Within the pages of Skater lies an steamy tale that is certain to melt your heart and permanently weaken your knees... fair warning Mr. Connor Bridgerton will do a number on you!! The moment he wandered onto the page he had my full attention, and shortly thereafter my heart too, he was sweet, sexy, and so irresistible! I have loved meeting everyone of the members of this Shark team, but no one has had quite the effect on me that Connor did, he was an unassuming man, with a good heart, and just a hint of a naughty side. The emotion he showed throughout made it impossible not to feel for him and the situation he found himself in, but his strength and persistence prevailed, and he handled everything perfectly, and gave me the perfect toe curling story to devour! If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting the Seattle Sharks yet, I highly recommend you remedy that, because you are missing the opportunity to meet some truly exceptional characters! I just cannot say enough say good things about these characters and their touching stories, just take my advice and meet them!!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
There must be something about fictional men with the name Connor ..... they're just all God tier. Literally....
"God I can't take anymore!"
"I go by that name"
😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨
Basically Connor gets guardianship over his niece Hannah, because his sister is a drug addict and can't care for her own child. Connor meets Ivy (who is Pepper's twin from the previous sharks book #5) and she helps look after Hannah. She is that continuous mother figure for Hannah and even though Hannah wishes and hopes for her mom to come back, she tries to stay positive. In the end they literally are the cutest family.
"Where do you think all that good comes from?"
"According to her, rainbows and fairies."
"You."
At the 85% mark ofc they have a big miscommunication moment, but seeing his friends just be right there to slap some sense into him. That truly was such a great moment. Also the epilogue was just too cute and there's something about fictional men and babies 😩
WOW!! I am about 6 books too late to this
hockey party! I am so glad that I found this
series. I know I started with the 6th book in
the series, but you can bet I am going to go
back and read the previous 5. I loved the
flow, and the story telling of this author.
Connor was exactly what I like in my hockey
men. When he fell for Ivy, he fell hard. Ivy
was tough. I picked up quick that she had
some drama in the previous books, but
Connor saw past that. Hannah was just
adorable, and I loved, loved, how Connor
cared for her. I will be going back and reading
each and every book of this fun, sexy series.
Connor is too sweet! He and Ivy together were fun. Hannah has my heart. I also can’t wait for Porter and Lukas’ stories. Even though these books can be read as standalones it’s just so much better when you have a solid understanding/relationship with secondary characters from the previous books. And I think for this one in particular it makes a notable difference in how invested I was or would have been in their initial dislike for each other.
Hi BookLovers,
This is one hell of an emotional ride. I was crying my dog just died got hit by a car.
First, it broke my heart when Jess left Hannah on with no intention of coming back. The love Conner has for his niece is just out of this world. He will do anything to make her happy. And, so does Ivy. Although they barely tolerate each other they manage to put the hate outside of this world for Hannah's sake and that why I love this book.
And, second I cry like a baby when Mother's Day comes and Hannah is sitting there waiting and waiting for her mama just to let her last hope fall to pieces knowing she is not coming back. I cry so hard until my nose hurt.
It's a good book! Highly Recommended :)
I typically never do reviews on here but for this story I feel like it’s a must. I loved Conner, Ivy, Hannah, and the rest of the Seattle Sharks family. It was so clear that this group of friends and family cared about each other so much. I thought the plot of the book was good, I laughed a lot throughout the novel, and one scene even made me tear up a bit which is out of the norm for me in this genre.
That being said I did knock a star off my rating for two reasons. The first is all of the grammatical errors. There were several misspelled words, a few capitalization errors and even some spacing mishaps. Personally, these errors didn’t really take away from the story for me but I did feel the need to mark/correct them when I saw them. The second reason I knocked off a star is due to the Connor’s reaction to Ivy’s “betrayal.” She tried to explain to him multiple times what actually happened but he refused to listen. I don’t know if he would’ve ever listened to her or forgiven her without his friends intervention. I just wish for once characters would actually communicate with each other.
Overall, I did enjoy this story and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series! And go back to the start and read the first four books since I skipped straight to books five and six.
The Hotter Than Hades Line Between Love And Hate
The sixth book into the lives of the ever-evolving Seattle Sharks and I swear it never gets old! I love it!
Looks like this time it's Connor who has got something or someone on his mind other than just winning on the ice, his niece and one nightstands.
Ivy Harris coaches daughter, and the bane of his existence, the lust/hate feels he has for her will grow to very uncomfortable levels and keep changing when she comes to his rescue with his niece, Hannah.
Confusion and appreciation muddy the already messed up lines he set with the firey reporter, and he is not sure how much he cares anymore... that is a scary realization for someone like him.
Ivy on the other hand- she's been down the path of hockey player relationships before and ended in a disaster. Trusting herself, and the man she is supposed to hate? Thats a lot to handle, even if she is attracted to him...
THE FEELS! OH, THE FEELS!
Connor has moved up to the top of my favorite Sharks list. #swoon #schwing #winninggoal
Now that's what I'm talking about!
A heartstring-tugging, grab the tissues, molten lava connected love bursting at the seams read!
I could not get enough of these three ( Connor, Ivy & Hannah )
With a story that stirred all my senses, infusing sports, families of all kinds, addiction, choices and the darker side of all the above I knew I had to finish this emotionally charged goodness in one sitting!
I hope we get more stories from the Shark family!
Cute but flawed
If you can get past all the spelling and grammar errors (It’s the 6th book in a series...the editor should be fired.) it’s a cute story.
This was an good book, there were some things I really disliked about it tho.. I really didn't like how Connor hated Ivy so much for something she didn't even do to him, and basically held it against her that she didn't date him, and dated someone else on their team... like, grow up. And the fact that the people Ivy hurt/outed (her sister and Eric) had both forgiven her, so why didn't Connor forgive her for Pete's sake? The other thing that really bothered me, was that after Ivy and Connor were together, and the article got published about him under Ivy's name, she tried to make it right, and she tried talking to him and telling him her side of the story, but he didn't listen, he was so mean to her and basically shunned her. He probably wouldn't have gotten back together with her, or gone to talk to her like an adult, unless it was for the intervention from his close friends and teammates, which I thought was also really weird. If he loved her, he should try to at least talk to her to work it out. I thought the fact that Ivy's photographer hacking into her personal ipad to get that 'story' she wrote about Connor was really lame and strange too.
Now for the things I did like about the book. I LOVED the passion between Connor and Ivy.. holy steamy. They were dripping with steam, angst, passion and emotion after they finally started getting along. I think they challenged each other which in turn brought out the best in each other. I love that Connor took in his niece Hannah, without a second thought, and wanted the best for her and wanted to adopt her, and Hannah connected so well with Ivy and had such a great relationship with her. I also really enjoyed the team aspect of this book, because Connor's big burly teammates knew that his drug addict sister just dumped him with Hannah, and they all pitched in to help him get his home ready for her, so he could legally keep her and keep her out of foster care, and they also (just about all of them) submitted background checks on behalf of this little girl. I thought that was sweet that they all came to support Connor in this journey and Hannah as well.
This book had a lot of spelling and grammatical errors which was sad and took away from some parts of the book, but if you could get over that, it was an enjoyable read.
Skater is book 6 in the Seattle Sharks series by Samantha Whiskey and can be read as a standalone. I’ve read the other books and was so excited to see what was in store for Ivy and Connor. Their attraction was undeniable but Ivy had made some mistakes in the past, and Connor was hesitant to trust her or his growing feelings. Connor is sarcastic, cold, and judgmental in the beginning, and not very hero worthy, but he redeems himself rather fast as the dotting uncle who takes in his adorable five-year old niece, Hannah, when his sister abandons her.
Ivy is very loyal and loving and has always been there for Connor when he needed her help. She loves Hannah, too, and as the three of them spend more time together, their feelings grow, their true selves surface, and they begin to let each other in. You can’t help but fall in love with Ivy in this story. She is so spirited, fun, compassionate, kind, and generous of her time. She is a wonderful role model for Hannah, a loyal sister and friend, and totally smitten with Connor. I was glad that they took their time getting to know one another before they became intimate, as it was all of these conversations and honest moments that made their story so special.
Ivy is an aspiring and talented journalist and repeatedly demonstrated through example her morals and values when reporting the news, another quality that I admired. I really didn’t care for the part of the story towards the end when Connor felt betrayed which I saw coming. As a reporter, I expected more from her and felt she should have been more conscience of the information she had stored on her ipad. It was quickly resolved, nonetheless, and they get a HEA worthy of the fabulous Shark series. I especially loved the epilogue, which gave us a glimpse into the future.
I loved revisiting the players, especially Eric who is married to Ivy’s twin sister, Pepper, and even their dad who is the hockey coach. There were many tender and heartfelt moments, especially when Connor was dealing with his sister’s addiction, talking about his youth, and trying to do right by his niece as an adult.
Okay I liked this one but it definitely was not my favorite in the series which includes Grinder, Enforcer, Winger, Rookie and Blocker. I'll start with the things I liked before I delve into the reason why it wasn't my favorite. I really liked the concept of the story in that he was fighting for guardianship of Hannah and I just thought it was especially well done because this was set up in the book before this one. I have to give Samantha Whiskey credit because all of these books are so planned out, the characters and their love interests and their plots are all introduced in previous books to their own so everything always makes sense. I think that's one of the reasons that I like this series so much is that it doesn't feel like each time something random was thrown in the book to be a plot. I also just really liked Hannah and her relationships with Ivy and Connor but mostly Ivy. That one scene between Hannah and Ivy at the end actually brought me to tears so watch out. Also I was impressed that the conflict was rooted in something very early like I was impressed that it came back around, I had a small inkling in the back of my mind but I wasn't sure, and then it came back and I was like ohhhhh. On to the things I didn't like so much. I didn't really like his reasoning for why he hated her. Like from the beginning that he was holding on to the stuff that had happened in the previous book but it didn't really happen to him and those characters had already forgiven Ivy so I guess I was just a bit confused as to why it hit him so hard. Then also the fact that he changed the reason why he hated her made a bit more sense but still a little confusing. That's the only reason why I bumped it from a 5 to a 4. So overall I liked it even though I had basically 1 issue and I give it 4 stars! - Hannah
Better but needs EDITING! Big time - actually sloppy shape! Over 15 - some had incomplete sentences - like the author forgot to finish a sentence like “ I waved off the flight attendant, who gestured at me to put the phone.” == put the phone where??? At one point Ivy was giving a BJ and had him straddled inside her at the same time - either the man had 2 -dicks or it was a feat we all need to watch on YouTube - I am frustrated and p’o’d. How dare you charge such prices and put out a book in such sloppy shape. do we have to beg for a clean book! I liked this book better then the last couple. It was different and I enjoyed that Connor had such love for his niece. I felt they made a great family. The story was different enough it was a good read BUT it was full of errors and at $5 plus dollars for one book in a series I can accept one or 2, even 3 but there are far too many edits that were not fixed and none were hard to find but auto correct is NOT enough! As a reader, we shouldn’t have to beg to get a clean copy - and as an author, I would think that they would feel it isn’t good enough either. Just as I wouldn’t but a chipped coffee cup - I certainly become frustrated when I spend $5.30 for a digital version of one book of 9 in a series. The total cost is ridiculous, receiving it filled with errors is plain UNACCEPTABLE! I found more then 10 instances where a word was left out as in: “For a couple of the guys the locker room, it would be the last series they played in a Shark jersey.” I mean come on - they aren’t hard to find - read it or try proofing it! Many of us will proof for a very nominal fee or some even free so there are no excuses. It constantly takes the reader out of the book as they are looking over the sentence to figure out what’s wrong or missing.
I really didn't like Ivy Harris in her sister Pepper's (and Eric's) book, Blocker. She seemed to be the quintessential party-girl who broke them up as well as almost ruin another hockey player's career. Granted he was man-whore who would probably end up doing that himself, but it had me going into this book with a bit of a grudge.
What I did like was the passionate arguing and banter between Ivy and Connor Bridgerton that started this story off. Their pissy attitude toward each other was based on his protective feelings toward his BF and teammate, Eric, and what she did to them. This in turn led to her verbally sparring with him all the time which conflicted with their obvious attraction toward each other.
Connor is trying to obtain total guardianship over his abandoned niece as well as raising her safely from the public eye, and dealing with family members and their addictions to drugs and alcohol. Lots of drama.
Oh! And Ivy happens to have a gossip column she contributes to but she wants to write positive stories about celebs instead of trashy pieces. Of course this leads to the big conflict, the blowout, and the having to work through all the drama to get to the HEA.
Is it bad that toward the later third of the book I was more interested in Connor's teammates Lukas and Porter? Lukas: the Scandinavian Mrs. Malaprop who mangles the English language but is the sweetest, biggest flirt, and ladies' man who somehow never seems to break their hearts. Porter: the newest trade and defenseman from Seattles nemesis Ontario, has a bad rep with the papparazzi, is huge and powerfully strong, but intense and quiet. A man of few words. I can't wait for their stories.
All books read with KU
Let me start by saying that I did not realize what a big hockey fan I am. Growing up in the South, where it is nothing but sun and sand, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. Seattle Sharks Series was more than just a group of hockey players. They each had story to tell and learn to love in his own way. I think I read all 7 books within about 5 days. They are pretty easy reads. And also addictive. I had to find out what was going to happen next to the guys. And the girls that were in the book.
It starts out as a trio of starters who each has his own issues with women and love. But as they each get hit with the love bug, it seems that matters of the heart will take over the Shark men. As the books develop more we get more stories from secondary characters who all need to be heard too. And the women in the books were a hoot. They had their own rules and the Shark men did not stand a chance.
The Shark men also showed you what it is like to be a family, even if you are not blood related. And how families stick together no matter what.
If I had to choose a favorite book, it would be Bruiser, Book 7, PORTER, Hudson Porter that is. He was this guy that just had a broody attitude but with good reason. He knew what life was life without all the lights and glam of being a NHL player. But when a petite redhead gives him a run for his money, he will do anything just about to show her that he is one of the good guys.
There are currently 7 books in this series but we are left after Book 7 with a sneak peek at the next book, which looks to be another winning shot for Author Samantha Whiskey.
Plot?
I am a sucker for romance novels that are about families, i.e. two MCs and a kid or kids from previous relationships or, as is the case in this novel, a niece or nephew who stays with one of the MCs cause the parent is unable to care for them.
The kid - Hannah
Well... I also hate romance novels involving these kids just for the sake of having them in there so that the MCs get together only for the kid to then never really appear again.
Hannah has been left by her mom in her uncle's flat. Hannah never asks about her mom after one initial question. Hannah never cries. Hannah never had a meltdown. Hannah actually never had a decent, actual conversation with the hero.
Whyyyy is Hannah in this novel, then?? So that the reader knows both Hannah and Ivy love pink? Well thank goodness.
Also, Hannah is almost never present in the at-home-scenes. And I get it, the focus is on the development of the romance part but how come she is always away in those scenes? Where is the bonding??
MCs?
Loved both of them.
Connor is such a grand guy. The way he steps up for Hannah, the way he cares for her was swoonworthy. Would have loved to see more bonding, though.
And Ivy? Sassy girl. Think Connor should have apologized to her a bit more for basically calling her out for sleeping with his teammate. Goodness, double standard much?
Critique?
- not enough bonding with Hannah (guess it was enough that Ivy would braid her hair)
- double standard (Connor basically slept around before Ivy and she was in a relationship with one of his teammates and should be ashamed of that? Whaaat?)
