Stranded in the Colorado wilderness with a very handsome, but very paranoid stranger, Delaney Arlen must decide if they are doomed to be enemies--or destined to be lovers. Second title in a trilogy which began with "Paradise Island".
As a suspense, it's actually not too bad. Plenty of action, deception, spying and undercover work...it's a fluffy suspense novel. As a romance, it's awful. Gareth, who spends the entire novel using the name Joe, is distrustful, overbearing, violent and suspicious. The heroine, Laney, is kind-hearted and sweet and, according to Joe, is obviously an actress bent on seducing and killing him. So he holds her at gun point, he ties her up, he forces her to cook for him and take care of him and holds her hostage in a cabin and in a cave with no concern for her welfare. And so naturally she falls in love with him. At this point, when she admits her feelings, my jaw literally dropped in disbelief. I nearly yelled, "Why?" Thank goodness I didn't, because I was surrounded by people. Up to that point, Gareth/Joe had done NOTHING to endear himself to her or me for that matter. So this entered the realm of the ridiculous at that point. And then of course there's lots of possessiveness and manly dominating feelings in this relationship as well. Not my favorite or as good as the first one (Paradise Island)

AUTHOR: Hale, Gena TITLE: Dream Mountain DATE READ: 03/08/11 RATING: 3.5/C+ GENRE/PUB DATE/PUBLISHER/# OF PGS: Romance/2001/Onyx/239 pgs SERIES/STAND ALONE: #2 in trilogy TIME/PLACE: Late 1990's/Dream Mountain Colorado CHARACTERS: Delaney Arlen/cook & restaurant owner; Gareth Tremayne/geologist FIRST LINES: That damn bear was digging through her garbage again. COMMENTS: 2nd book after Paradise Island, this is the story of Kathy's missing brother who has been presumed dead. A bit formulaic and follows the romance of the 1st -- mistaken identities, outdated romance etc. Again lovely cover, nice setting, a bit more of story than some romances.
Pretty interesting book, but i felt like i was dropped into the middle of an action scene without any background information. That and all the names & multiple identities confused the hell outta me. So, besides the 200 different things that were goin on, this was actually a pretty good book. I might even read the next and previous books in this series.
I have read this book four times, and every time I love it all the same! The love story makes me heart swoon and ache as the two characters fall in love with each other. Gena's books all make me feel for her characters, and laugh and cry as they wander through their challenges. Dream Mountain was a book from a friend, and she and I both still love it, even after ten years of re reading it!
What makes a woman fall in love with a guy? Him being mean, cruel, demanding, tying her up, etc. At least that was it took for the two main women in this book. Very unbelievable romance with undercover agents galore. I like this author's sci-fi books under S.L. Viehl, but this wasn't very good at all.
