Disillusioned IT helpdesk worker Daryl Martin decides to swap his dull life in front of a screen for the perceived excitement of teaching in Thailand. However, he soon finds the one thing he can’t escape is himself, as old habits propel him from the ‘Land of Smiles’ into the dark heart of Bangkok, where following an alcohol-fuelled night in an illegal fighting club he awakes to find himself hungover, broke, bruised, and with some unexpected company. And this is just the start of his problems.

As Daryl sets out to pay what he owes from the night before, he is sucked into a downward spiral of misfortune that sees him fall into the hands of a violent Bangkok crime syndicate that has plans for the naive foreigner that ultimately put his life on the line. In an underworld of lost souls hailing from China, the USA, Russia, the UK, and of course Thailand, Daryl's only hope is that at least one of them will reach out to pull him from the mire before it's too late.

Written following years of study, travel and conversations, BANGKOK RUN is a hard-hitting, cautionary, and yet darkly-humorous travel adventure that lifts the lid on the Thai sex industry and the people that use it. At the same time, through the backstories of characters, BANGKOK RUN explores human fallibility and morality as characters seek to do the right thing on a fast-paced journey from the routine suburbs of the Thai capital to its cockroach-infested underbelly, and beyond.

Born in the UK when money went decimal. Grew up on a council estate (projects) in SE London in a poor family. Grafted from a young age. Was a barrow-boy on Woolwich Market, got kicked out of home before fifteen. Was a scaffolder, then a firefighter - worked as a taxi driver, a scaffolder and a bouncer in my days and nights off. Left the brigade and went to uni - did well. Won prizes and stuff. Learned Chinese headed east - my head headed in all directions. Been a bumpy ride since. But then, I suppose it always was.
