Ex-Ranger and military dog handler Beck Gunnar wants nothing more than to get back into action and earn a spot on the Brotherhood Protectors team. After surviving a brutal mortar attack, both dog and handler face limitations caused by their wounds. Beck is in denial about his hearing loss, and King won’t follow training to sniff out explosives.

Veterinarian Danae Orestes packed up her Philadelphia life, put her ex-husband behind her, and started a new vet practice in rural Montana. After a life lived around domineering males, she’s happy to be on her own. Then a new client, who is built like a Nordic God, walks into her office, sparking an interest that she thought had died.

When she’s plagued by threatening calls, Beck is the man Danae turns to…but do he and King have the skills to keep her safe?

About the author

The combination of years spent working with words in the secretarial field and a love of reading romances sparked Layla’s initial urge to write. Add to that the experience of reaching a landmark birthday, and you might say a mid-life crisis was born. Relocating from her native California to Texas in 2000 provided more time to focus on the craft. A direct challenge form a critique partner turned Layla’s writing toward the sensual side and she hasn’t looked back since. Writing erotic romance allows her to spread her creative wings and let her imagination take off.

Multi-published in historical, paranormal and contemporary, Layla’s sexy stories are mixed with a bit of humor or a tug of emotion, but always have a happy ending.

Layla lives in south Texas with her engineer husband and teenage daughter. Her other three children are scattered up and down California and having adventures of their own. When not writing or plotting her next story, she spends time reading, watching movies and traveling (so many possible locales for the next adventure).

Ranger and Dog

Beautifully written. Has mostly new characters with a few old friends thrown in. There's plenty of action from phone calls to kidnapping and ex husband. A beautiful dog who was injured in combat, his handler who was also injured and the vet who tries to discover what is going on. Some sexual content. Fast Moving and very enjoyable.

ANOTHER ENTERTAINING ADVENTURE

I have been enjoying the whole Brotherhood Protectors series and so far have not been disappointed. Each adventure has been a great read with all the elements that make a good entertaining story. Each author who writes for the series brings to the table terrific skills and value to a great series.

YA read

The book was written for young people and I am a lot older. The hero and his dog were the mature characters in the book and the ending had the heroine acting like a 17-years old instead of a divorced woman who had moved away to lived on her own with no help from the family because she wouldn't do as they say?

I was expecting more out of this book. Too tame for my liking. Oh there were steamy scenes, but action not so much.

Short contemporary romance. Author does not connect with characters. The flow is matter of fact. King is the best character.
