Listening to Love

Rate this book
Falling in love can only mean trouble for an Englisch girl and an Amish boy… unless there’s another way for them to listen to their hearts. Englischer Natalie Collins looks forward to Friday night suppers at Levi and Mary Shetler’s house every delicious food, wonderful conversation with her Amish friends, and, best of all, the presence of Levi’s older brother Lucas. Natalie and Lucas have become best friends despite their different backgrounds. They share a love of books, and he is teaching her about God in a way that she can understand. But the closer they become, the more opinions everyone seems to have. Levi and Mary, Lucas’s family, and even Natalie’s mother—whose own life is a mess at the moment—have concerns about their relationship. Why can’t everyone understand that it’s possible to just be friends? Besides, they couldn’t be together even if they wanted to be. Lucas would never leave the Amish faith, and Natalie is Englisch and pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine. But when a terrifying accident happens, Natalie and Lucas are forced to confront their true feelings and decide if they can stay true to themselves and each other. This sweet Amish story is the second in the Amish Journeys series by bestselling author Beth Wiseman. “I always find Beth Wiseman's books to be both tenderly romantic and thought provoking. She has a way of setting a scene that makes me feel like I'm part of an Amish community and visiting for supper. I loved the title of this book, the message about faith and God, and the heartfelt romance between Lucas and Natalie. Listening to Love has everything I love in a Beth Wiseman novel—a strong faith message, a touching romance, and a beautiful sense of place. Beth is such an incredibly gifted storyteller.” —Shelley Shepard Gray " Listening to Love is vintage Beth Wiseman...clear your calendar because you're going to want to read this one in a single sitting.” —Vannetta Chapman, author of Shipshewana Amish Mystery Series

There are different books for different seasons in life. Sometimes a book hits you at just the right time that you need it. Such was the case with Listening to Love. The story is about Natalie Collins and Englischer who has become friends with the Amish couple Mary and Levi Shetler. Through them she also meets Lucas, Levi’s brother. They share a love of books. Both sides of their families are concerned given their different backgrounds and lifestyles. Natalie and Lucas can’t understand why people can’t see they are just friends. Lucas would never leave the Amish faith and Natalie would never give up her plans for college, being a veterinarian and all the modern comforts of her life. However Lucas has taught her a lot about God and she has found that relationship a blessing. Natalie is also trying to deal with her mother Cecilia, the aftermath of her parents’ divorce and the changes it has meant. Celica is not handling the situation well. She is drinking too much, has no job and can’t find one, is relying on Natalie for finance, and has a mountain of debt. But then an Amish neighbour, who lives near Lucas’s parents, gives her a part time job as a bookkeeper. Gradually Cecilia starts to turn her life around. An accident and a situation no one foresaw, including this reader, changes things in several lives.
This is a charming story and it was easy to read and to relate to both Natalie and Lucas. The dramatic event that occurs later in the book that brings several things to a head, added an extra interest. What was going on? How could this turn of events have happened? Who was to blame?
I don’t read a lot of Christian fiction, but for some reason this one spoke to me. It quickly sucked me in and enjoyed spending time with these characters. They came across as real with real problems and struggles. Given things happening in my life at present, I wanted a light read. I got so much more than that.
Yes, it is very obviously Christian so if you have a problem with reading about God, prayer, a life of faith, and what the Bible says, then maybe this is not the book for you? Or perhaps it is? For me it was exactly what I needed to read at the moment, hearing how God can change situations, hearts and attitudes. Though this is the second book in a series and I had not read the first one, it didn’t matter a bit. A story about faith, friendship that reaches across boundaries, love and following and trusting God I was blessed by reading this book.

I am enjoying catching up with old friends, characters I've met in the first book in this series. Hearts In Harmony .
I appreciate seeing the maturity of this Amish book I've just read. So many Amish books are basically the same story line recycled with a few different Things added for variety.
Not so with this one. There are two different story lines going on here which makes to story have even more to savor.
The plot was quick and easy to read. I read it in less than a day it certainly gripped my attention with it's different story lines as the secrets came to light.
I appreciate the author showing is that yes, there are good and people that have gone astray amongst the Amish as well as the Englisher's.
Different faiths and lifestyles that are not a harmonious match at first come together through trial and error and the faith messages spread through out make this book a real winner.
Honesty, faith, love, hope, forgiveness, understanding and redemption make this book stand out from the others.
Highly recommended!

Listening to Love by Beth Wiseman is book two in her An Amish Journey series, though it reads well as a standalone. I’m a fan of Beth Wiseman and was not disappointed with this novel.

Natalie Collins and Lucas Shetler are friends, but their friends and families don’t approve of their friendship because Natalie is an Englisher, non-Amish, and Lucas is Old Order Amish. Natalie and Lucas ignore all the warnings, because Lucas is teaching her about the Christian faith and they’re just friends. Besides, Lucas loves being Amish and could never leave his community for the outside world, and Natalie can’t give up the comfort of modern conveniences. Slowly, Natalie and Lucas start to realize that maybe their friends and families were right, but what can they do about it?

Listening to Love is another great work by a noted bestselling author of the Amish genre. The characters are endearing. The storyline and plot are engaging. I was entertained from start to finish. I rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all readers of chaste romance, especially Amish romance. If you are adverse to religious themes, this is not the book for you.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really enjoyed reading Listening to Love. I ended up reading it much faster than I expected to! It is the second book of the series, yet can be enjoyed on its own if you haven’t read book one, Hearts in Harmony. I enjoyed book one in the series, and it was fun to catch up with the main characters from that book, but I liked Listening to Love even more.

The premise of two people from different worlds, Amish and Englisch, falling in love and having trouble sorting out how they could ever have a life together is an intriguing concept and I have read other books with this plot that I have enjoyed. Yet, Listening to Love had some very unique twists on this plot and some other situations going on in the story that made for a tale that stood out as special to me. If you enjoy Amish novels, I highly recommend this one.

What a stunning story! I was all tears and laughter and tearing my hair out in frustration by turns throughout the read. Wiseman caught my attention with the book blurb and I was a goner once I started reading...with dread and anticipation. Because this Amish and Englisch pairing just can't work. Can it?

Both Natalie and Lucas are committed to their lifestyles. They're great friends but they know they could never be anything more. But then the people around them start to voice concerns which, ironically, turns their focus onto the possibility of there actually being something more between them. Which is ridiculous, right? For so many reasons. Their story made me so anxious! I couldn't see a way through for it to work out without one of them losing themselves in the process. Gah! Beware -- romantical tenterhooks abound!

And I loved the secondary plot that Wiseman weaves throughout, as she gives both Amish and Englisch mothers their own points of view. Both are opposed to a relationship developing between their son and daughter. Meddling mamas in stereo! lol

There's such a powerful inspirational thread embedded in the lives of all these characters. And I'm ecstatic over the way Wiseman used a classic Christian fiction novel as a catalyst for change in Lucas and Natalie's lives. That was such a fun discovery -- a bookish treasure hidden in a book! Very clever. And moving.

A soul-satisfying, basking-in-the-after-reading-glow kind of novel that stays with a reader long after she reaches 'The End.'

Listening to Love is the second An Amish Journey Novel. It can be read on its own if you have not read Hearts in Harmony. I thought Listening to Love is well-written with developed characters and steady pacing. Natalie Collins loves animals and is pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine thanks to Mary and Levi Shetler. They sold the beautiful piano they inherited from Adeline and gave the money to her. There is a problem, though, preventing her from moving forward. She cannot give shots and the sight of blood sickens her. Natalie has developed a relationship with God thanks to Lucas. He has become her close friend. They meet each week at the library plus they have lunch dates and talk on the phone each evening. People do not understand that a man and woman can just be friends. Lucas has yet to be baptized, but he has never dreamed of leaving the Amish. As Lucas spends more time with Natalie, his feelings for her change. I could feel the struggle in Lucas and Natalie as well as their developing love. I like that each of them has a close relationship with God. Natalie’s mother, Cecelia is having a hard time after her divorce. She has gone through her divorce settlement, maxed out her credit cards and her mortgage is behind. Cecelia has been getting money from Natalie, but that is her college fund. After attending a housewarming party at Mary and Levi’s, she gets a job with Moses Schwartz, the Shetler’s neighbor. Cecelia’s dream job soon turns into a nightmare that disrupts the lives of those around her. I liked this addition to the story as it gave the story added depth and interest. I enjoyed seeing the changes in the characters as the story progressed especially in Cecelia and Helen. My favorite phrase is “Listen to God and follow His lead.” Listening to Love is an absorbing story about family, faith, friendship, and love.

I was really enjoying this story, and being back with old friends, that I had previously been involved in.
Two of the characters Natalie, and Lucas are the main focus of this story, and the author has us torn as to what direction their lives will/should take. Then, don’t get two comfortable, the story seems to explode in more than one direction.
This read will keep your attention, and never saw most of it coming, my mind had been going in a completely different direction.
Don’t miss this one, you won’t be disappointed!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.

Listening to Love is the second book in Beth Wiseman’s An Amish Journey series, and it follows the story of Natalie and Lucas. Natalie is an English girl that we met in the first book, and she is a close friend of Levi and Mary. Lucas is Levi’s brother, and the four of them meet every Friday night at Levi and Mary’s house for dinner and fellowship. Natalie is drawn to Lucas because of his deep understanding of God and His Word, but they are starting to feel something more than friendship which worries everyone around them.

Eventually, these feelings do develop into something more, and then this story becomes one where you wonder which one is going to adapt to the other person’s world and lifestyle. There are a few times when their feelings almost run ahead of themselves because they long to be together, long to get married, but everything moves more quickly than they are prepared for.

There were times during this period in their relationship that I almost stopped reading! The pace was just so rushed! I know it was done purposefully so that Natalie and Lucas could both realize that they needed to stop and take a breath, but….mercy, it's a little bit of a roller coaster!

This story was not just about Natalie and Lucas. Natalie’s mother also needed some TLC after a horrible divorce left her bitter and spiteful. A new job (which she desperately needed) gave her life some direction, but something about her new employer doesn’t sit right. She was in for a surprise that she didn’t expect, and this made for an excellent twist to this otherwise ordinary Amish story.

I truly love Beth Wiseman’s books! Every single one is different from the one before it, even if they are all set in the Amish culture. This one had an ending I didn’t expect, and made me anxious to read the last book in the series – A Beautiful Arrangement. It’s already sitting on my TBR stack, waiting for its turn. 🙂

Natalie is an Englischer who has found friends among the Amish, she look forward to Friday nights with Mary and Levi Shetler, and Levi's brother, Lucas. Lucas and Natalie share a love of books and learning, and he explains his faith in a way that she can understand. But as they grow closer, the community becomes concerned that their friendship is on dangerous ground.

But an accident forces Lucas and Natalie to finally confront their feelings for each other, and what a future in each other's lives would mean.

Natalie is studying to be a veterinarian, but she has a fear of blood and there are other aspects of the job that don't appeal to her. She has a passion for animals, and has really grown in her faith by getting to know the Shetlers.

Overall, a sweet, compelling story of family, faith and love. Natalie admires her Amish friends, and her friendship with Lucas is especially dear. Lucas is a strong man of conviction, his faith and family are very important to him. Meanwhile, Natalie's mother is going through a tough divorce and finding her feet again, working for Lucas's parents neighbor. And engaging and easy to read story, with unexpected twists along the way. A story of love, sacrifice, faith and dreams.

I love that we finally get Natalie's story! Ever since the first book I've been wondering how on earth the author would bring Natalie into the Amish world. Honestly, I had no idea how the author would work in Natalie's story line and how different her world is from the Amish life.

This book definitely did not disappoint! It was definitely realistic the way it was written and Natalie's own progression as a person.

My only complaint is that I really wish we had an epilogue showing just how both Natalie and Lucas adjust to their new life. They both would have had a lot of adjusting to do but we didn't get to see that.

I will say the Moses situation caught me totally off guard.

A romantic, tension-filled, will they/won't they story.

Book two in 'An Amish Journey' series, tells the story of Englischer, Natalie, and Amish man, Lucas. They have become friends and very close at that, but they can't be more because they are from two completely different worlds. Worlds that neither of them want to give up.
As they grow closer, the chemistry becomes undeniable, but love between them feels impossible with so much standing in the way.

I enjoyed being inside Natalie's head for this one, but I do prefer when the main character is Amish. Lucas and Natalie made a great couple and I was on the edge of my seat wondering just how it was going to work out. It really did feel impossible, but Beth Wiseman did not disappoint.

I am really enjoying this series. It was sweet, romantic and heartfelt. I loved seeing Levi and Mary again, and can't wait to read book 3.

Listening to Love by Beth Wiseman
Natalie and Lucas, he an Amish man, she an Englischer. Friends for a long time, but fell in love. Love between the two has caused so much tension in both families. Natalie has finally found God’s love with Lucas’s help. There is so many surprises and twists especially with Natalie’s mother. Love and friendship are always present in both families. Outstanding story and I didn’t want it to end.

Listening to Love continues the story of Natalie and Lucas relationship. Natalie and Lucas are from two different cultures, the English world and a strict Old Order Amish. .Friends and family were concerned about their relationship growing into something more. There were unexpected twists and turns that gave way to heartbreak and unbelief how someone could be so deceptive. This book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading Living in Harmony first to appreciate the characters.

I borrowed this book from the library, thus a review was not required.

Joslynn, Cybele, I hope you're happy. I read it.
The word for this book is boring. The characters are one dimensional. The plot is predictable for the most part (there was exactly one twist that got me). Just... so boring. The other book I read had batshit moments and lines and the worst 12 year old I have encountered. This was just... bland.

Another great book in the series and like the first you’ll want to keep reading to find out more. What a story with unexpected turns and twists in events. I enjoyed hearing more about Mary and Levi and also hearing about Natalie and Levi too oh how much their lives both changed.

It’s a wonderful read and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves Christian fiction and or Amish novels.

I was so glad to revisit the characters we met in Hearts in Harmony and to read how Natalie, an Englisher navigates her life. The story keeps you glued to your chair as you experience the many twists and turns it takes. It is a poignant tale of relationships between daughter and mother, Amish and English, man and woman, and some are difficult. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and develop and learn that life is about compromise to make relationships grow and develop into what God plans. The characters show flaws and deal with real life situations such as a parent going through divorce. Ms. Wiseman has a gift with the pen to draw us into the story and make us feel we know the characters on a personal level. An outstanding read that grips your heart. If you are new to Amish Fiction this series is a great place to start.

I did NOT see that coming!!

I really, REALLY enjoyed this novel. Of course, I loved the previous book, Hearts in Harmony, but I loved this one even more. (Take a look at my average rating and you'll realize how significant that is!) While the last book had a relatively easygoing storyline, this book completely threw me for a loop for which I was NOT prepared in the slightest! I normally don't believe in spoiler tags—if you're reading a review, there are obviously going to be spoilers—but I'll give a spoiler warning here so that you can proceed with caution as I ramble about this book!

Okay. I thought that I had this book figured out. Lucas is Amish and Natalie isn't, and they both insist that they can be friends without being romantic. It was pretty obvious that Natalie was going to give up her lifestyle and become Amish... wasn't it? All of a sudden, the pair are second-guessing their relationship, and they broke up, kind of. I checked my page count. I wasn't even halfway through the book! What else could Beth Wiseman have in store? Ooh, okay, Cecelia (Natalie's mother) is hired as a bookkeeper by Lucas' neighbor, Moses (I kept calling him Mosheh in my mind because of a really good biblical fiction book that I read that uses the Hebrew name), and this guy seems to have a thing for Cecelia. Maybe. Tom, her ex-husband, has come into town again because things may or may not be going well with his new girlfriend, Olivia. Will they get back together again? There's a lot going on in this book, and while I was surprised that there wasn't a complete focus on Natalie and Lucas' relationship, I was fine with that.

Natalie is injured trying to ride a horse, and it's during this time that they confess their love to each other and become engaged. Lucas is prepared to leave the Amish world and join Natalie, and he won't be shunned because he isn't baptized. BUT THEN... (here's where I was really blindsided) Mosheh is busted for hooking up with drug dealers and lying about how much money is in his accounts, and Cecelia is arrested! On top of all of that, Natalie breaks her engagement with Lucas! AAAHH!! Where was this going to go? Surely they were going to get back together? But who was going to make the lifestyle change to join the other? I normally flip to the end of a book that I'm reading so that I know what happens, but since I had a PDF, I couldn't do that. I was DYING to know how this book ended!! It was so engaging, and I was totally invested in the lives of all of these characters! I must say that I was a tiny bit disappointed that Natalie converted to being Amish instead of the other way around—it seems like that's the only way that it ever goes; I would have loved to see an Amish person convert to be non-Amish because I never see that in books—but overall, the epilogue was sweet (Tom, I really don't like you) and the book threw a massive curveball at me. I was taken completely by surprise.

I highly recommend this book! Please read it; you won't regret it!!

I am so glad to have the honor of reading and reviewing a book that is an example of God’s love. The characters are wonderful and very east to relate to. Natalie is hungry to learn more about God and her best friend Lucas is guiding her through scriptures and his own experiences to help her. There is a little bump in their friendship as Natalie is English and Lucas is Amish.

I loved how the author shows the uneasiness that their family and friends have when the two seem to grow closer. Natalie is heartbroken when everyone steps in to break their relationship up. There is a reason for everything that happens in life. Natalie believes that God put Lucas in her life to help her grow her relationship with God. Now she wonders if that was all or is there more that God has planned for them?

The author also gives us a look into a broken relationship between mother and daughter. Natalie is bitter at times because her mother is taking the divorce from her father so hard. Having to continually give her financial support is causing a strain on her own finances. I loved reading how they each had to let God soften their hearts and understand that bitterness was destroying their relationship.

I have to mention Helen, Lucas’s mother. She is very protective of her family and has a dislike for Natalie and her mother. It was kind of funny to read about her using binoculars to spy on her neighbor. I won’t say why she was but it made me understand how we can push our views onto others and judge them. There were times I just wanted to tell Helen to stop interfering and let God handle the situation. How many times have we judged people? I did like how the author does give us a glimpse of the differences between English and Amish beliefs.

The story is such an emotional journey through compromise, forgiveness and acceptance. It explores what true love is and questions how to tell if you will have the kind of love for another person for a lifetime. It is never easy to know if a love will last. but I have learned that love between two people is a commitment that calls for patience, compromise and including God in the relationship.

One thing I found interesting is that Amish don't believe in divorce so they just stay together and work things out. In society people walk away everyday from a marriage without trying to sit and talk it out. We sometimes don't include God in our marriage and the enemy gladly takes that as an invitation to break up a family.

There is an unexpected twist in the story that causes chaos in several lives. The author took me by surprise and I loved how the twist leads to compassion and forgiveness. I have to say the author has surpassed my expectations in a story that reminds us to listen to God and the meaning of a love that never fails.

I received an arc copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.

Listening to Love is a thought-provoking Amish story of love, healing, friendship and family. Although this latest release is the second installment in Beth Wiseman's An Amish Journey series, it can be read as a standalone.

Nineteen year old Natalie Collins is an Englischer whose relationship with God has grown through her friendship with Lucas Shetler. Through an unexpected inheritance and her friends' generosity, Natalie is going to college where she plans to achieve her life-long dream of becoming a veterinarian. Despite all of the positive things in her life, Natalie is troubled by her mother Cecelia's inability to move past her hurt and bitterness from her divorce. She is also dipping into her college savings to help support Cecelia whose financial situation is becoming dire. The time Natalie spends with Lucas is a huge bright spot in her life but do their feelings for one another run deeper than friendship?

Natalie is a caring and very responsible young woman but she is growing weary of financially and emotionally supporting her mom.  She is also a bit concerned about the career path she has chosen for herself. Natalie and Lucas live in very different worlds but they are trying to remain true to the plans that God has for them. Both of their friends and families are growing worried that their relationship might turn into a romance. Thankfully, Natalie has Lucas and God to help her navigate the unexpected obstacles that suddenly appear in her life.

Lucas and his family are Old Order Amish which is very strict and eschews modern technology. Even in the face of his mother's disapproval, he cannot deny how drawn he is to Natalie. If they are to have a future together, one of them will have to sacrifice the life they are currently living. Can Lucas walk away from his family and faith in order for them to be together?

Cecelia has been trying hard to overcome the betrayal of her husband divorcing her. She feels guilty over relying so heavily on her daughter and she is growing desperate as she searches for employment. When Cecelia meets Lucas's neighbor Moses Schwartz, she does not hesitate to accept his job offer. She is happily settling into her new position and she is finally beginning to regain her lost confidence. But will Cecelia revert to destructive coping mechanisms when faced with an unexpected crisis?

Listening to Love is a heartwarming Amish novel with an engaging romance and endearing characters. Natalie and Lucas are winsome characters who are faced with life-altering decisions once they fall in love. They both grow and change as they work together to make the right choice for their future. Cecelia's story arc is quite uplifting but challenging as she begins healing from her painful divorce. Old and new fans of Beth Wiseman's An Amish Journey series are going to love this newest addition to this heartfelt series.

Natalie went to her friend’s Mary and levi’s house every friday night. Lucas was levi’s brother and he also came to their dinner. Natalie and Lucas became best friends. The love of books drew Lucas and natalie together. He was also teaching her about God and the bible. But Mary pulled Natalie aside to worm her that maybe she should back off from Lucas since you don’t always pick who you fall in love with, it can just unexpectedly happen. They came from two different worlds. Lucas and his family were from a very conservative community. MAry was Amish but came from community and Bishop had been a lot more lenient. Mary and Levi had to learn to compromise to be happy together. Natalie also told mary they were never alone together. They would not allow their relationship to go any farther. Mary worried one or both of them would be hurt. Natalie cherished their friendship. Lucas didn’t expect to have such a strong reaction from Natalie’s touch, and the strange surge of affection rattled him. Lucas was close to Natalie in a way he’d never been with anyone else. His physical attraction to her had been from the first day, but it seemed to intensify the closer they became. Lucas had reached for Natalie’s hand and held it. She wondered if everyone was right and they were headed into dangerous territory?
This was truly an awesome book to read. Probably one of the best books I have read about the Amish and English people. It showed how truly difficult it was to come from two totally different worlds and try to build a life together. The struggle Natalie and Lucas went through when finding love. . It showed some of the sin that could be in an Amish community. I loved seeing Cecile - Natalie’s mom and helen- Lucas’s mom grow a friendship. I loved the journey Cecile was on and still growing. I loved Natalie and Lucas together and how they interacted. I hated seeing how huert Natalie and Lucas were when apart. I didn’t want to put this book down. I loved the plot and pace. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

We met Natalie Collins in the first book in the Amish Journey series. She is an Englischer, who was the niece of Adeline. She became friends with Levi and Mary Shetler and through them, met Levi's brother, Lucas. She and Lucas became friends and Lucas taught her about God as well as enjoying books together. They have fallen in love, but know that it won't work as he is Amish and she doesn't know if she can give up all the "things" she loves. Neither of their families think a relationship between them would work, but can they work out a life together? Meanwhile Natalie's mother, Cecelia, is doing better after her divorce. She has been hired by an Amish horse trainer to do his books and keep his house and business organized. Natalie is happy for her mother, especially as she is happier working. Things aren't always what they seem and both Natalie and Cecilia have major things to overcome in their lives to finally become happy.

Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed this story with all the drama and tragedy that occurred. I really like these characters and I like how the Englischer and Amish can get along together and support one another. Cecelia was very unpleasant in the first book, so it was great to see her blossom and not only stop drinking but actually be happy. When things happen where trust is broken, several characters had to do some soul searching and decide next steps for someone else, not just worry about themselves. This is a Christian story with prayer and talk of God, so if that is not your thing, you might want to pass on this one. This story has themes of family, dealing with divorce, fraud, and supporting one another, as well as some romance. I am enjoying this series very much. I listened to this book narrated by Lauren Berst. I enjoyed her presentation, voices and expression. She added to my enjoyment of this story.

This is the second book in the Amish Journeys series. What a joy to reconnect with some of the characters, Natalie Collins and Levi and Mary Shetler. This book is a great standalone for those who haven't read the first in the series.
Natalie loves and looks forward to the Friday night dinners at Levi and Mary Shetler's house. The food and company is wonderful! Levi's brother, Lucas, also attends the dinners. Natalie and Lucas have became very good friends. In addition to the Friday nights, they meet on Wednesday's at the library to visit and talk about the books they are reading. They also talk each night before bed on their cellphones, which are not allowed in Lucas' Amish community.
Levi and Lucas express their concern that Natalie and Lucas' relationship may be more than simple friendship, and that it will never work as Natalie is Englisch and Lucas is Amish. While Lucas has yet to be baptized into the Amish church/faith, it would break his family's heart if he were to walk away from them and their community.
Both Natalie and Lucas attempt to give assurance that they are only friends. Until one day...they both realize their feelings for one another go deeper than they had thought.
Lucas has taught Natalie about God and she now has a relationship with Him and feels Lucas has been very instrumental in that. But...is that why God put him in her life? To lead her to Him and nothing more? Natalie realizes she cannot leave her world. Is it fair to expect Lucas to leave his and try to adapt to things he's never had and has been taught against? Air conditioning, cars, music, etc?
Great story and characters! Another winner by Beth Wiseman!

If she learned anything lately, it was that fear and worry blocked the voice of God.

Englischer Natalie Collins enjoyed her Amish Friends. The simplicity of life comforted her as her life was in a tailspin. Her parents separated, her mother depressed, and Natalie desiring to become a vet and finish school. Her married Amish friends had been most generous to her when they gifted her a valuable piano which she used the money for school. Levi and Mary Shetler always had Natalie and Levi's brother Lucas over for dinner. It was these dinners that a friendship, a much deeper friendship transpired between Natalie and Lucas. Lucas was sharing his faith and with that Natalie became more attracted to Lucas.

Being of different faiths and lifestyles, Natalie's mother expressed her concerns to her daughter while Lucas's mother expressed the same concerns. The mother's came together with their own prejudices and common ground. The relationship must end before someone gets hurt. The plot is driven by the families concerns while Natalie and Lucas must decide who will make the most sacrifices. Will Lucas leave his faith and family to be with Natalie or will Natalie lose her dream for becoming a vet and making something of her life.

Natalie and Lucas both have underlying emotions that they are dealing with. Natalie with the separation of her parents and encouraging her mother to move forward with a job. She does find a job with Lucas' Amish neighbor that leads to a bit of a scandal that only feeds the prejudices of both families. Thru the scandal and pain that love brings, Natalie and Lucas begin to listen to the call of love in their hearts.

A Special Thank You to Zondervan and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

In the second novel of Beth Wiseman's Amish Journeys series, Listening to Love, the author takes the reader on a beautiful ride. I truly enjoyed this book, maybe even more than the first in the series. This story is centered on Lucas and Natalie, two friends who we met in book one, Hearts in Harmony. Lucas is from an old-order Amish district that is very strict, while Natalie is an English girl going to school to become a veterinarian. The two are good friends and Lucas has helped Natalie as she has grown in her relationship with the Lord. However, their friends and families are concerned that there is more than friendship between the two and they just can't see it. As they spend more time together, each tries to fight any feelings for the other by convincing themselves that they can be friends. However, when Natalie is in an accident, they both realize the extent of their love for each other. But, how can they be together? There is so much between them and so many obstacles. When Natalie's mother goes through a distressing time, will it help to pull them together even more or be yet another obstacle in their way? I loved this book. So many poignant moments and so much talk about discovering God's purpose for your life, something each of us needs to do. I also enjoyed the references in the book to Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, which is one of my favorite books. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of Christian fiction. It will open your heart and your ears, so that you can listen to love also.

I have very high expectations when opening up a book written my Beth Wiseman! This book is the second in the Amish Journey Series. Her ability to draw me deeply into the lives of her characters is a quality that I love! This book was certainly no disappointment. The tale has us continuing the journey alongside the previously met characters, Natalie and Lucas.

The characters are so realistically and well described that the reader is compelled to walk alongside them in their very rocky path of life. One feels the suffering caused by a broken relationship between mother and daughter. Bitterness caused by the divorce of Natalie's parents affects Natalie's power to live her own life. As if that is not challenge enough, Natalie is drawn to a handsome young man......but he is Amish! She is not. The confusion this causes makes the reader wish that one could solve the problems for this beautiful couple.

The plot moves at a quick pace with lots of unexpected twists and turns, keeping the reader glued to the page. The world passed me by as I just had to read to find out what would happen next. Just when everything seems to be calming down, another block is put in the road. The tension built as this tale progressed.

This book has everything that any reader could wish for, adventure, characters that you come to love and surprises when you least expect them.

This is a five star book ! Don't miss it!

This book was supplied by NetGalley. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

In the second installment of the Amish Journey series, we find englischer Natalie Collins and Lucas; the older brother of Levi Sheltar having friday night suppers together. As time passes, the two have become very much best friends to the concern of their family and dear friends Levi and Mary. The opinions of those around them, starts to frustrate Natalie, who adamantly says that it is friendship only. But deep down she is realizing that her feelings have grown toward love for Lucas.

Lucas loves getting to talk with Natalie in the late night hours, but time has come that he has to face the truth of the struggle between their two ways of life. To leave would cause so much pain for his family. Also he knows that asking Natalie to walk away from her plan to become a veterinarian, would break her heart. But the more time they spend together the truth starts coming out that they have feelings for each other

When Natalie is hurt in a riding accident, the love that they have forces each of them to confront each of their life decisions. Will they chose to stay true to each other and find the path God has given them?

Beth Wiseman truly writes a love story with all the struggles that each of us can face in life. Making decisions to give up something we truly want can happen in any relationship. But it also can prove to be the best thing we ever done, because of what comes out of that relationship fulfills our dreams.

Listening to Love is another outstanding story written by Beth Wiseman in her Amish Journey series. In this story we continue with the journey between Natalie and Lucas. This story is a fast pace story with many interesting events happening that will keep the readers interest and keep them turning pages. The storyline is devastating, heartbreaking, and forgiveness all wrapped into one. There is a little bit of mystery that appears and will definitely throw you off kilter but it adds to the drama. This is such a lovely story involving the Amish and I enjoyed it so much.

The characters are very likeable and realistic. I enjoyed the journey between Natalie and Lucas. Their love story is well written and the outcome may surprise you. The aythor has written a well rounded story and her descriptions really draw the reader into the story. I also enjoyed catching up with Mary and Levi from the previous book.

I was given the opportunity to read this story in advance of its release from Netgalley. I was under no pressure to write a positive review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others who enjoy the Amish genre.

Congratulations to Beth Wiseman on releasing another fantastic story for her readers enjoyment and I look forward to more inspiring stories from this author in the future.

This is the second book in this series by Beth Wiseman, and it’s just as good as the first book. This story focuses on the characters of Lucas, an Amish young man, and Natalie, an English young woman. Despite the differences in their backgrounds, they become best friends. They are both honorable, caring people and realize that they would bring great distress to both their families if they allowed their friendship to develop into a romantic relationship. I thought the author did a terrific job of making both these characters seem “real” and showed their struggles with the differences in their backgrounds in a compelling way. There’s some surprises in this storyline that kept the story moving along in a way that I did not always see coming.

There’s also a look at the differences between two Amish communities and the way they view each other. That has an impact in this series, as the two different orders have to find common ground and understanding of each other’s practices.

I really liked the honor that both characters gave to their families even when they did not always agree with them. They were always seeking the best for those around them and that made this a refreshing story to read. I’m hoping there’s more to come in this series about this community.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Beth Wiseman is releasing book two in her Amish Journey series. This one kind of picks up where the previous one left off. Mary and Levi are married and have friends they invite for Friday suppers every week. Natalie, the friend, is also friends with Lucas, Levi's brother. The hitch in this tale is that Natalie is Englisch and Lucas is Amish. They see nowhere for their relationship to go. Lucas knows he will be giving up much of what made up his life if he continues to court Natalie.

Natalie is going to vet school, but she can't stand the sight of blood and can't even give shots to dogs. She's now unsure of what she should do.

Lucas begins to realize the changes that will have to take place in his own life, but he's willing to do that for Natalie.

There aren't as many tear-jerking moments in this book as there are in Hearts in Harmony that I reviewed here: https://beckysbookaddiction.blogspot..... There are enough, though.

This is a five star book, two thumbs up, and exchanging your truck for a horse drawn buggy.

My thanks to Zondervan Fiction and NetGalley.com for allowing me to read and review this book.
