Ava

Rate this book
Ava has everything planned, as usual. Finish senior year at the top of her class, perform her best dance routine at the dance concert, and have the greatest prom ever. But her best friend, Cade, has other ideas. He convinces Ava to abandon her rigid schedule and enjoy her last year of high school. After letting her hair down for one amazing night and exchanging a steamy kiss with Cade, she's ready to explore this carefree side of herself, until someone plays a cruel joke on her.

Humiliated and hurt, Ava retreats into her carefully constructed box, hoping everything will go back to normal. But it doesn't. What she thought was a prank has turned out to be so much more, and she doesn't even know the half of it. Determined to handle the situation herself, Ava hides her true feelings from her friends and her new love interest, but is quickly pushed past her breaking point.

The survival of a sickening betrayal, a broken heart, and a perilous attack mean very little when lost in a game you don’t even know you’re playing.

Charyse grew up dancing at her mom’s studio and riding horses at her dad's ranch. She often turned to books for entertainment, but didn't become the reader she is until high school. She always enjoyed writing, but never saw herself making a career of it. Instead, she turned to her love of cooking and became a certified pastry chef out of high school.

She published the first novel of the Valley of Death Series in 2014 and has published four books since then. She is working toward her BA in Professional Writing through GCU. Now married to her best friend/high school sweetheart, they live in the sweltering heat of Arizona raising their four kiddos and three Goldens. She still enjoys baking the occasional dessert for close friends and family. She's a bookaholic and chocoholic; her vices keep her sane, but YAH keeps her patient.

I got this eARC from Netgalley in exhange for a honest review
I can just say here and now that i am a sucker for romance and Cade and Ava was adorable and so cute. Yes, they faced difficulities and i liked that we got both pov`s seeing from both sides and what they thought and did. Tough, i am not sure we needed the Trent/Mia drama, but it also made me curious for Mia`s story. So it was very enjoyable story.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. The review I'm leaving is being done voluntarily and contains my own thoughts, views, and personal opinions.

This cover drew me in. It's breathtaking and eye-catching. I just wish the story paid out as well as the cover. It almost feels like its sole purpose is to set up book two rather than being a worthy standalone of its own. This is the first book about a set of twins, each in one of their POVs. I'd be interested to read Mia's story, as I enjoyed the author's voice well enough to give her another try. And, I'm hoping, book two with Mia's story should provide a much bigger payout considering how much this book seemed to be setting up the next.

I don't really have much to say about this one. It was a pretty standard teenage angst-filled story, although at the beginning I thought we were going to get a suspense novel! I was kind of excited. Still, there's a chance book two might be more along those lines. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Thanks to the publisher for providing a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not sure what Ava wanted me to take away with it. The opening had me screaming thriller, but everything else was fairly standard angsty high school romance. Mia, the twin I'm assuming the companion book is going to focus on, was barely mentioned until abruptly disappearing near the end. Quite honestly, this whole thing just felt like one long build up for Mia's story.

On the romance side, I really couldn't stand Cade as a character and it made it really hard to buy root for our leads to get together. Ava is very stereotypical "strong, perfect girl who could be popular without trying" and Cade is the whole "aggressively protective guy with a secret heart of gold" archetype that I tend to try and steer clear of.

I was intrigued throughout the book.

The story follows Ava and Cade. Ava is the type of person who has everything planned down to the second. She is sure of having the best last few months of her senior year with no problems. But Cade, one of her best friends, tells her to forget her schedule and go out with him. When she enjoys the date, she realizes it’s okay for her to go out for herself. Then when her car gets painted with hurting words, she retreats into her cocoon.

I loved this story. It made me want to cry every two minutes. This book was action-filled. I was surprised by the outcome and will surely get the second book. I wasn’t able to put this book down. I read it all morning and skipped lunch! It was amazing. I look forward to reading the sequel.

I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.

To start, I would definitely say is that the cover for this book is gorgeous. It is what originally drew me in and made me interested in reading this book. The color scheme and the vibes given off by the cover made me want to know what the story was going to be and how the cover would tie in.

For the content, I thought this was going to be a thriller at the beginning. Not that it was pitched this way, but it gave off those vibes and that is partially what drove me to keep reading. What it ended up being though was a fairly standard high school romance that was full of angst. I did connect somewhat to Ava since I was similar to her when I was in high school, but I found it difficult to root for her and Cade since I did not connect to Cade and found him to fit into archetypes and stereotypes that I tend to avoid in my YA romances.
