A celebratory weekend at a historic inn brings a blizzard, delicious cornbread, a cozy fire, and a murder… or two…
Winifred Page and her sidekick corgi, Watson, join an assortment of family and friends to celebrate her uncles’ anniversary at Baldpate Inn, nestled above Estes Park, Colorado. A blizzard is approaching, but the prospect of being snowed in means more time in the lovely mountain retreat—complete with river rock fireplaces, log cabin rooms, and a collection of thousands of keys from around the world.
With the blizzard raging outside the rustic inn, the early arrival of a knitting group adds a touch of drama, but nothing can unravel the cozy party spirit. Even when the power goes out, the merrymaking continues by lantern light. But in the flickering shadows and twisting hallways, relationships transform, secrets are uncovered, and death comes calling.

Book 10 Fred (Winifred) and Watson Fred corgi and Leo and Katie went up to Baldpate Inn for Percival and Gary anniversary. When they got there. Everyone was there. Fred step sisters twins and their twin husbands and twin children. And Fred step dad and her mom and some friends. There were a keys room at inn that people ( presidents, celebraties, totality and everyday folks who visited Estes Park. One from Castle in Ireland, Buckingham Palace and Tibet and many more. Also one from Stanley from the Shining with Jack Nicholson. A group of women ( knitter group) interrupted the party. But Percival and Gary said it was ok. A young man ( a inn keeper) was murdered. Fred was worried it could be one of her family members. But then another murder. There was no way they could leave because it was a blizzard.n ( until Lisa the owner said she had snow mobiles) this one was pretty good.some of the story line was not a shocker to me. But some was. Love these books though. Some of story made me laugh. I do recommend this series
Winifred "Fred" Page, her friends, her family, and her corgi Watson are gathered at the Baldpate Inn to celebrate her uncles' anniversary. However, when two people are killed, solving the mystery is hampered by the blizzard that has taken down all communication and left Fred, her "Scooby Gang" and Detective Susan Green have to solve the murder on their own.
This is another great episode in the Cozy Corgi book series. The ratio of mystery to character development is perfect in this one, and the relationships between the characters is what makes the book(s) great.
Corgis, bookstores, snowstorms, a little romance and celebrating? Ahhhh Killer Keys! I loved it!
The Gist: A family celebration at the local in goes full out drama when a blizzard hits and everyone is snowed in and then....someone starts killing staff and guests. Oh my!
Oh Fred. She manages to find so many dead people. lol I enjoy Fred. She's a little bit of a handful but she's got such a great heart and determination. She's doing her and that's that. Making a new life for herself and pup. She's really quite easy to fall for. And Leo. Oh lordy. He's so dang cute and sweet and patient with her. Things do maybe finally move along and it's adorable! He's a good bit younger than her but the two just fit so nicely even if she's been so dang slow on the uptake.
I heard more than felt the brush of Watson’s fur on my snow pants and looked to see him staring up at me. He gave a questioning whimper and an expression that read, What in the world is wrong with you? This is Leo. He’s better than treats!
The mystery was fun. I love the whole snowed in trapped with the killer thing. Some interesting tie ins to the past and kept me guessing a bit, too. I did think there needed to be a smidge more at the end but it was pretty good. Fun seeing all the different groups together, too --Fred's family/friends at the anniversary celebration, the other random hotel guests and the hotel staff.
All in all, Killer Keys was a fun read. From the grumpy Corgi to the quirky characters, sweet beginnings of romance and all the yummy food. Not to mention the murder. It was just a delight.
A special weekend for Fred, her family and some close friends at a rustic inn winds up being anything but. Everyone is snowed in. And Fred ends up juggling two murders. With the town of Estes Park dealing with it’s own complications due to the blizzard, their on their own. They can only hope the murder count doesn’t keep rising.
I think the series is getting leaner and meaner. A recurring theme that ties some of the earlier and present crimes to the murder of Fred’s father many years ago is being brought forth into the light. Fred is so kind-hearted by nature, but she’s growing a thicker skin and honing her investigative skills. I like how she’s growing.
I was lucky to already have this book after finishing the previous one, Malevolent Magic. That ending had me on pins and needles. And Killer Keys starts off pretty much where the last book ended. With me on pins and needles, hoping for the one thing I’d wanted to happen…to happen. And it did!
I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.
The Cozy Corgi series just gets better and better. Set in the Baldpate Inn, Fred and her favorite Estes Park residents come for relaxation but with Fred around...that’s really too much to hope for. I loved the many twists this latest mystery took and really couldn’t even guess who was behind the latest incident. This story had lots of sweetness, suspicion and recent history all mixing it up to one big unsolved murder in a blizzard.
A great twist on the traditional murder mystery. A party of people staying in a remote location get stranded by a blizzard and then someone turns up dead. The twist in this story is where the series plot is developing and I will not divulge anymore than that. I do have to say the the writing about Watson is so true to breed that I keep getting pulled further into this series because this grumpy Corgi has won a spot in my heart.
Even an Anniversary celebration for Percival and his husband can't murder away from Fred Page. I love this series. So much thought and action involved. Don't forget the sumptuous recipes in each book!
Mildred Abbot gives her readers the perfect icy winter getaway set in snowy mountains with not one but two murders seemingly right under Fred and Watson’s noses. If the magical village of Estes Park wasn’t charming enough in winter the surrounding mountains above it with postcard views must be Narnia. Placed perfectly in this snow-white mountain range at 9,000 foot is the BALDPATE INN. Holding an extraordinary collection of antique keys brings tourists from all over the world to view and contribute additional vintage keys. For Fred and Watson, their friends and family this will be a weekend to celebrate Percival and Gary’s anniversary, as the inn is reserved for their exclusive use this weekend. Arriving shortly before a blizzard, Fred is transported to vacations with her grandmother at the inn. The inn is without internet, both an annoyance and a blessing. Percival and Gary make their entrance and the extended family is reunited. Making themselves at home, everyone is in for an incredible treat as they scan the offerings of freshly baked breads, muffins, world famous cornbread, soups, stews, and an entire table of mouth-watering pies. With the backdrop of a raging blizzard, charming young foreign students waiting on the tables and the familiar camaraderie of the family, this is the prequel to a relaxing weekend. Fred was glad for the buzz of conversation as Leo, the breathtakingly attractive Park Ranger had been invited and Fred was still remembering an almost romantic moment from Christmas. This was bound to be an interesting weekend for the two of them. With the unexpected early arrival of a knitting club, with a mysterious and rude member, the peacefulness of the family weekend is interrupted. Angus Witt owner of the town’s kitting store Knit Witts, is equally surprised to see the group of knitters interrupting the celebrations. The roaring fire accompanied by hot cider, hot chocolate and s’mores, comfy chairs and couches contributes to the sense of safety and isolation to the Inn. With all of this as a cozy backdrop, Mildred begins to construct the mysteries. The blizzard of the century, with the power going off, a dead young man in the key room, a bloody key shaped letter opener in the snow, cooking for the guests on a wood-fired stove, Officer Green disdainful as ever, comments allude to the Irons Family, another murder, and Fred and Leo actively supporting Susan Green’s investigation…WHEW what an amazing story. As the reader follows the ins and outs of the investigation, it becomes apparent that the guests seem to be constantly nibbling on what must be the most delicious cornbread ever made even in a wood heated oven. Luckily Mildred offers a surprise and the recipe is posted at the end. With or without the Cornbread, KILLER KEYS is a fantastic addition to the COZY CORGI MYSTERIES!
Another great read but just two questions were never answered. Who was the other figure and what we're they doing / moving out of the back of the van? Nice to see her relationship with Leo move up a notch. Although I must admit that Susan's handling of the case was completely out of, what I perceived, her normal character. She, her baking BFF and Leo (naturally Winston is there too) are on the way to a family celebration weekend. The weather is frightful, snow coming down in torrents and she is glad when they arrive. Things are just settling down and they have all sat down to eat when another group show up (24 hours early). Including an aggressive, arrogant female that most of them know. Tempers get a little frayed and when the lights go out due to the snowstorm it just gets worse. That night unable to sleep, she's sitting downstairs when she sees various figures creeping about and then Leo. Their first kiss! But later finding the young German waiter dead it makes the feeling of contentment die down a little. No power, no phones. Leo and her stepfather go to fetch Susan who lives not far by snowmobile. Add in finding a sketchbook with Branson's drawing in it, another murder and a clear link to the Irons family. What was the link between the dead woman and Branson? Who killed the waiter? Who killed the woman and why?
5 Star Novel: Killer Keys Series: Cozy Corgi Mystery Bk 10 Author: Mildred Abbott Publisher: Amazon Digital Rated: Mature Release date: 1-26-2019 Genre: Murder Mystery
This is the 10th book in this series…and fans like myself who love a good who dun it….this series should be right up your alley.
Ms Abbott has painted a small quaint town called Estes Park nestled deep in the mountains of the north west . With its pretty setting….quaint facade… Ms Abbott has turned it into a cloak and dagger town with hidden pasts, petty hatreds, and big crime. I Love it!
The characters are all relatable, and we after 10 stories ‘know’ the town and families as our own. So this newest brings us to Winifred’s uncles Anniversary celebration at an old Historic hotel in the mountains. What a quaint setting for a family party..unless a horrendous unexpected blizzard blows in… taking out the electricity. Then another group arrives a day early because they tried to beat the storm…. and there is a murder….Cornell Mustard in the kitchen with a candlestick????
Again Winifred is asked to do the dirty work and solve this, with the help of the handsome Park Ranger Leo Lopez……..Cannot wait for more and to try this new Katie Corn Bread Receipe!!!
I love this series. Fred and her friends are enjoying a weekend celebration for her uncles’ wedding anniversary at the historic Baldpate Inn. They get stuck in a blizzard, the electricity goes out and a mystery develops. Can Fred solve it?
It was a great read and kept me guessing. It fun fun to read bits and pieces of the Inn’s history especially the key room. Plus as an added bonus the recipe for the Inn’s cornbread is included and I can’t wait to try it. The locale and history will have you wanting to book your own holiday at the Baldpate.
Can not wait for the next book in this wonderful series. So glad I found Mildred Abbott and all her friends in Estes Park!
Come to Baldpate in and celebrate Percival and Gary's anniversary with the whole family and closest friends. Isolated in a blizzard, no power or phones, they are cut off from the world. A wonderful weekend away punctuated with .... murder. Between a knitting group, international students, a connection to recent events, and Fred's family/friends, it is definitely a weekend not to be missed. Mildred Abbott has yet again given another amazing story with sweet moments, suspicion around every corner and laughs along the way.
A visit with Fred, Watson, et al is a perfect way to spend a foggy winter afternoon. The Scooby Group heads to the Baldpate Inn to celebrate Percival's and Gary's anniversary. There, they meet a knitting club that arrives a day early and are trapped by a blizzard. Naturally, we have at least one murder and interesting revelations about some of the new and recurring characters. As with all Abbott's books, this one is well written, nicely edited, and left me with the warm glow that cones from spending time with good friends.
Finally movement on the Leo/Fred romance front though I still a little surly at Fred and not sure she deserves him, but whatever 😒😁😁
This time, the family of sleuths, including Leo are of the Celebrate Fred’s uncles anniversary and of course there’s murderrrrrr 😮🫣
It’s up to Fred/Leo/Katie/Susan and the regular gang on hand to solve a couple of dastardly murders at the inn in the middle of a blizzard. Add to that a knitting club and the Irons gang, and two very unlikeable murder victims adding some mystery, well the gang has their work cut out for them.
I am recovering from neck surgery and couldn't write review earlier. This is a great cozy mystery series. A smart resourceful heroine, who knows her mind & as she says follows her gut feelings. Dashing hero. A charming sidekick, Watson, a Corgi. Adorable best friend. Supportive family. - all set in the beautiful town of Estes Park, Colorado. Start reading, today.5 stars.
Book 10 is another exciting chapter in the saga of Fred and Watson. This time Fred, Watson, Leo and Katie as well as the rest of the clan are snowed in by a blizzard. They are joined by a knitting club, all women! Almost instantly there is a murder of one of the waiters and here we go again. As usual, there are all sorts of twists and turns. Also things are heating up between Fred and Leo and now everyone knows! Where will this lead? And so it goes.
Another great mystery!❤️. An anniversary party at a lodge and a Knitting group that showed up a day early along with a blizzard of snow turned out to have two murders! Finally Leo and Fred finally gave into their feelings for each other! Officer Susan Green ended up at the lodge and her, Leo and Winifred started questioning everyone! Another piece of the puzzle regarding Branson was discovered along with Alexandria as someone behind the secrets of Estes Park!
This is my absolute favorite book of the series! I like Fred but in previous books her waffling and indecisiveness got on my nerves. This book was the Fred I’ve wanted! This was a great mystery and I love how this series is growing. This is a must read series, especially if you love cozy mysteries!
Love Fred and Watson, and they didn't disappoint in this book! If you're looking for a cozy read, this series is it! Winifred and her cranky Corgi Watson get into all sorts of trouble, solving murders in a cozy mountain town! Can be read alone, but it's so much better if you start at the beginning of the series.
Hooray! for the latest episode of Cozy Corgi Mysteries. This story has Fred, her family and friends staying at the Baldpate Inn to celebrate the anniversary of Percival and Gary. They are stranded by a snow storm. Two murders occur. Susan Greene lives nearby and is brought to the Inn to start the investigation. Now I'm looking forward to the next episode
I chose this rating because, to me, the book wasn't as "cozy" as I like.
The storm and loss of power added to the drama of the night of the murder. I was excited that Fred finally got together with her true love! I couldn't help giggling at Officer Susan's grumpiness. As usual, I loved Watson.
What does a corgi and cornbread have to do with a murder or two? Paired with an inn in the country, snowed in during a blizzard, you find a knitting group and a family celebrating a wedding anniversary. who is the killer! That is what you will find out but you have to read the book.
One of my favorites in the series. Fred and Watson and the Scooby gang are at it again but this time they're snowed in at the iconic Baldpate in Colorado. Fred and Officer Green have to work together to solve another murder and if you throw in an eccentric group of knitters then you've got a winner with this one.
Pull up a warm blanket and snuggle down to another great read. New characters expand the ongoing plot arch started with Brandon’s actions in previous books. The setting at the Baldpate is just fantastic. The descriptions make me want to fly there right now. And you’ll love the romance aspect too.
I must repeat myself, I love the characters in these stories. I always want a little Corgi when I read about Watson, then I think about going out for a walk when it is minis ten degrees!, NO, maybe not! The author once again has written a wonderful mystery for Fred and Watson to solve. Please enjoy it.
I love this series, Fred and Watson are great characters and their friends and family bring the small town to life. In this adventure, the gang is celebrating Fred's Uncle's anniversary in an Inn in the mountains. There is a little love, romance, hidden secrets and of course a murder (or two). Can't wait for the next in the series.
As our “friends” at the Cozy Corgi take a weekend at the historical (and real) Baldpate Inn, we find murder, a touch of romance, corgi, and cornbread. This book is a tiny bit different since it’s not placed in town and all the familiar shops. But that makes it a weekend away for the reader too! Get you fireplace going, and have a cup of cocoa at hand, as you’ll get snowed in with friends, and a murder. But unlike the guests at the Inn, you won’t want to leave till the end!
Also, the cornbread recipe that is so widely loved in this story is included in the book. I am really going to have to make it!
With Branson gone, Fred is able to move forward with her personal life as well as finds that Susan might not totally dislike her. However, Killer Keys had a LOT of characters and I feel the family anniversary celebration was brushed aside to solve a mystery, which had to be. As always though, great setting and Fred, Watson, Leo, and Katie are a winning team.
Mildred Abbott’s Cozy Corgi mystery series are just Brilliant! This book is no exception. Mildred has developed the characters so well that you feel like they are all great friends, not just words on a page. I cannot recommend this series enough! You will fall in love!
I love this series and always anxiously await the next book! If you've never read any of these, you are really missing out on intriguing mysteries and lots of fun interactions between characters. I can hardly wait for the next one!
