Cassandra Clare
199 books278k followersCassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.
Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).
After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again.
Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.
City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.

I didn't like Johnny Rook in Lady Midnight.. BUT I think I changed my mind. He made a lot of mistakes but I understand him!!

Okay, I won’t lie, even though I have loved watching Brother Zachariah go on this quest of finding the lost Herondale, I feel like it is my least favorite aspect of this anthology. And even though this short story gave us major insight on Rosemary and Jack, it wasn’t a big surprise after reading The Wicked Ones. But then, once the story catches up to the events at the end of Lady Midnight, and Tessa drops the REAL information of this story. You all, my jaw dropped. And my eyes? The tears won’t stop coming after that last paragraph. Wow, the blessings. The happiness. The everything. Queen of Air and Darkness can’t come soon enough.

What the Actual F*** did I just read? Is this really happening? Can it be?
INSERT UNCONTROLLABLE CRYING...
Okay, let me start on the story first that's focusing on the lost Herondale and the lost Heir, because when I'm going to start talking about the emotional side of this novella when reading about Tessa and Jem, I probably won't be able to do anything else afterward...
In this last novella it's all about the Lost Herondale, that Jem and Tessa are still searching for. Truths are revealed about the Last Heir, the descendant of the only child that was ever born from a union between the Unseelie King and the Seelie Queen. There's a prophecy going on around this child. One that's promising that the world will turn into darkness whenever this person becomes of age and gets into his/her powers...
You can imagine the build-up of it all towards Queen of Air and Darkness is enormous, since this is something we've read a bit about already in Lord of Shadows. We know this is going to be an important part of the story in QoAaD and I am so curious to finally see everything being played out. But I'm sooo scared at the same time, knowing what I now know about the lost Herondale and everything revolving around the story of the Lost Heir.
Since I've already read about Rosemary and Jack in the Wicked Ones, some of the things written down in this one weren't really always necessary, I think when it comes to the in-depth details of some parts of Rosemary's life that was being written down. But... now knowing who the Lost Herondale is and that Rose is his mother (this is no spoiler, since Rose's name is confirmed in other novella's and we know then that she is one of the descendants) this was also really beautiful to read because it's really sad knowing how much she loved her husband and her son but never got the chance to see him growing up and living a good life with her family. Knowing how much her son missed a mother-figure in his life... It's heartbreaking, and reading more about Rosemary in this one only confirms this. I'm definitely interested in reading a separate series of Rose and Jack. Pretty Pleaaaase Cassandra?
And then there's the other side of this novella. The one that had me bawling my eyes out like I was reading the Clockwork Princess epilogue all over again. Because there's so much happening regarding Tessa and Jem and. I.JUST.CAN'T... *Yup here come the tears again*
I can't put into words how beautiful and perfect this last (for now) novella is and do this novella justice the way it deserves. This was beyond anything I'd expected to read. I finished reading this one late at night, while my husband was already asleep next to me in bed. I was sure he was going to wake up since our whole bed was shaking because of me crying so hard and loudly (thankfully he didn't because he always finds it amusing if I'm crying over books and I think I would've smacked him if he would've done so in this particular moment haha, lol okay not really but well I would've been really pissed though <- a fangirl needs her moment when she's reading about Jem/Tessa/Will).
I've really loved every novella that I've read so far of Ghosts of the Shadow Market, but this one... This novella was definitely the most emotional one to read to me. The ENDING of this novella gutted me, so thoroughly. In a good way though, but still... All the freaking feels. I still, (After all these years? ALWAYS) can't properly handle reading about Jem,Tessa and Will without wanting to go lie down in a fetal position and cry forever. And the way things are coming together in this last part of the novella was beyond anything that I was expecting to read. Gods, I hate myself now for not being able to find the right words to tell you how amazed I was by it all and how this story 'got' to me.
I have cried, like legit cried with fat tears rolling down my face, for like 15 minutes non-stop while Goosebumps were running all over my body because I was so not capable of handling all the feels. This is to be expected at one point or another when you're reading a Clare book, especially when I'm reading about these characters who are so precious to me - to me anyway - but I wasn't expecting THIS!!!

This takes place right before and during Lady Midnight and tells the story of how Jem and Tessa came to save Kit, and it talks about the fate of Rosemary as well.
Meh, I found this rather boring. I hate to admit it, but I'm just not that big a fan of Jem/Tessa. Separately, yes, but I just don't buy that there is any chemistry between them. I did enjoy the Rook/Rosemary parts and loved reading how they first met and fell in love.

Through Blood, Through Fire by Cassandra Clare and Robin Wasserman is the eighth novella in the young adult paranormal fantasy Ghosts of the Shadow Market series. This series is another companion set of novellas that are brief glimpses into events set in the Shadowhunter world of the Mortal Instruments series.
This eighth installment of the series has caught up to the current timeline of the Dark Artifices series in the Shadowhunter universe. Jem Carstairs and Tessa Gray have spent the last hundred years waiting until a time they could be together once again and now that time has come they have taken on the quest of finding the lost Herondale. This is a deeper look into what had been happening in the main series and with that deeper look fans get a glimpse into Jem and Tessa's relationship. These are the little glimpses of something more that I enjoy the most with a collection like this.

¡Creo que esta es de las mejores historias que hay en Ghosts of the Shadow Market! No sólo es un relato tremendamente emocional a lo que Jem y Tessa se refiere, sino que es un puente que encaja perfecto con muchísimos aspectos de The Dark Artifices.
En esta ocasión vemos cómo Jem y Tessa siguen en la búsqueda del Herondale perdido, ese heredero que hace parte de una profecía tanto del mundo Seelie como del Shadowhunter. En Through Blood, Through Fire conocemos muchísimo mejor a Rosemary y a Johnny Rook, los padres de Kit. Es impresionante la manera en la que Cassandra Clare relata la niñez de Rosemary, siempre protegida por sus padres y asfixiada entre paredes e identidades secretas. El dolor, la desesperación y las ganas de ver el mundo y realmente vivir de Rosemary se notaban muchísimo en cada página. Pero, claro, luego viene el precio que tuvo que pagar por su rebeldía y llegamos al punto en el que entiende todo lo que hicieron sus padres por ella.
Este relato es increíble. Lo amé muchísimo no sólo porque conecta toda esta historia de Rosemary, los Herondale perdidos y el presente cuando Jem y Tessa salvan a Kit de la muerte y le revelan que, a pesar de que los odie, él mismo es un Cazador de Sombras, sino por el hype que crea con respecto a Queen of Air and Darkness. ¡La existencia de Kit es mucho más crucial de lo que habíamos pensado en un principio!
Ahora, ¿mi parte favorita? Por supuesto todas las que involucren a Jem y Tessa. No puedo decirles lo mucho que los amo. Nunca habrá personajes más entrañables que ellos dos... y Will, por supuesto, que aunque haya muerto siempre está con ellos. Necesito decir un spoiler enorme, así que voy a ocultar la siguiente línea, pero lo único que diré aquí es POR EL ÁNGEL.

I just finished this and I AM SHOOK. What is Cassie Clare doing, just dropping bombs at the very end of novellas like that!? QoAaD cannot come any sooner.

It was okay . But !!! It’s good to see more of rosemary and how this will wind up to meeting kit for the first time. Also , we are having Jessa’s baby !!! And then will is there , watching and smiling at both ...
Right now as I am inferring based on the timeline . Tessa is pregnant at the end of lady midnight . And then tessa is sick as with all the other warlocks WHILE SHES PREGNANT! Ohhh that wasn’t good 😩

It’s a four star read but it’s also not a four star read.
It doesn’t deserve a three star either so 3.5 it is.
I don’t know guys. I think it’s quite interesting to see the story of Rosemary Herondale and Kit Herondale unfold. Rosemary and Jack Crow slash Johnny Rook’s story has this retro feel to it and it feels like reading a classic you know? But aside from that, I feel like this story didn’t do enough for me.
BUT I’m giving an extra star for just that tiny part in the end oh my God I swear any mention of Heronstairs will make me throw another star in. It’s kind of sad that I got spoiled and I knew about

This was a nice conclusion to the search for the lost Herondale that we had been following for the past seven novellas. I'm happy that we are now up to speed with The dark artifices series.
I always love to read about Jem and Tessa, it gives me major TID feels and I'm all here for it.

I love these Shadowhunter novellas! It’s a great way to get more of a back story on the characters. In this one, it is a great story involving Jem, Tessa, and the story of the lost Herondale (Kit). This was an amusing two hours of reading with a fast-paced story on locating the lost Herondale.

I AM SOBBING.

"It was easier not to feel. It was safer not to love. It was possible to make oneself silent and still as stone, to wall oneself off from the world and its losses, to empty one's heart. It was possible, but it was not human."
I'm in tears right now. This is the perfect ending to this chapter in the story. Is way more than I ever thought we would get to have and I'm profoundly grateful for that.
We got Rosemary's story and, let me just tell you, it was even better than anything I had ever thought. I feel such sorrow for the life that was dealt with her, a life in which she had little to no saying, and for which she had to sacrifice so much. She was a true warrior.
Her memories were bittersweet to the end and left a little hole in my heart. I think that her story may become one of my favorites in this universe.
"They don't say goodbye. Between them, there can be no such thing as goodbye. Only a kiss that should last forever. Only a closed door, a silence, a void."
And then we follow Jem and Tessa's frantic search for the Los Herondale, who finally needed their help.
Their interactions and the journey made me cried a few couples of times - especially when they mentioned Will - and remember how much love is important in our lives, and how much it can do for those ready to open their doors to it.
Also that revelation right at the end! OMG, I'm still screaming. I don't think I will ever be able to get over it.
"Every Herondale was a part of Will, and so a part of her. That was what it meant to be family."
Is it possible to love a world so much? To feel so connected to its characters and their sufferings and joys? Well, it must be, because that's exactly how I feel.
I need more stories featuring Jem and Tessa as its MCs, I need more of their beautiful love story and their lives together. I need it right now.

I'm in tears right now. This is the perfect ending to this chapter in the story. Is way more than I ever thought we would get to have and I'm profoundly grateful for that.
We got Rosemary's story and, let me just tell you, it was even better than anything I had ever thought. I feel such sorrow for the life that was dealt with her, a life in which she had little to no saying, and for which she had to sacrifice so much. She was a true warrior.
Her memories were bittersweet to the end and left a little hole in my heart. I think that her story may become one of my favorites in this universe.
"They don't say goodbye. Between them, there can be no such thing as goodbye. Only a kiss that should last forever. Only a closed door, a silence, a void."
And then we follow Jem and Tessa's frantic search for the Los Herondale, who finally needed their help.
Their interactions and the journey made me cried a few couples of times - especially when they mentioned Will - and remember how much love is important in our lives, and how much it can do for those ready to open their doors to it.
Also that revelation right at the end! OMG, I'm still screaming. I don't think I will ever be able to get over it.
"Every Herondale was a part of Will, and so a part of her. That was what it meant to be family."
Is it possible to love a world so much? To feel so connected to its characters and their sufferings and joys? Well, it must be, because that's exactly how I feel.

Beh... Clare stavolta hai dato più colpi al cuore di quanto ne avessi immaginato di avere, in quanto potrebbe essere letto questo racconto dopo Signora della Mezzanotte, visto il modo in cui si collega. La storia di Rosemary è toccante quanto fuggitiva sempre per via di ció che è e di ció che puó essere anche un personaggio che si conosce in Lady Midnight (Signora della Mezzanotte) sin dal prologo. È stato terribile ogni loro passo, ogni situazione di Rosemary e Jack (che poi avevo già il sospetto su chi fosse, come la stessa Rosemary quando cita il figlio), ogni tassello completa il puzzle.
Oltre a questo colpo di scena su Rosemary, Jack e il loro figlio, vi è stata l’immensa paura per Tessa, la quale andó in aiuto di questa ragazza con Jem, per via del suo peculiare potere che l’ha resa schiava nel “limbo” come accadde in La Principessa, ma in questo limbo ho notato quanta determinazione e sofferenza vi era in Rosemary e in Tessa che nonostante gli anni porta ancora la perdita. Ed ora arriva la parte che mi ha shockato in modo assurdo da non capacitarmi ancora di quanto avvenuto, certo da una parte sono contenta che i Carstairs proseguono, ma dall’altra capisco la sofferenza che ci puó stare dietro e come possa intaccare il ricordo prezioso di Will, eppure c’è anche la parte commovente per sommi capi, che scoprirete quando leggerete questo racconto, vi lascio con questa frase:
“Una nuova anima di te e di Tessa. A malapena posso attendere di vedere un tale modello di perfezione”

Not my favorite from the set. I think it's was a bit sappy and boring for the Jem and Tessa part. Also not surprised by the big ending. I can't wait to read Queen of Air and Darkness though, cause Kit and Emma and all my characters!

I definitely should’ve waited to catch up with TDA before reading these novellas !
Not the best of the series but also not bad. The ending was definitely predictable but I guess it was sweet.

Finalmente siamo all'ultimo volume di questa raccolta di racconti, che mi ha davvero deluso. Se da un lato mi sono piaciuti, e hanno dato finalmente un senso ad alcune cose successe nella serie TDA, dall'altro il continuo Jem e Tessa non l'ho sopportato.
Loro sono anche carini e avrei potuto anche passarci sopra, ma così no.
Questo volume bello, mi è piaciuto, e adesso non vedo l'ora di rilegetrmi TDA.
Ma la fine no. Basta vi prego, se leggo un'altra volta Will presente e che approva Jem e Tessa, spacco qualcosa. E poi mi ha fatto incavolare l'epilogo. Non voglio nemmeno pensarci.
