4.5 Stars for FETCH - a Sweet & Clean Romantic Comedy novella by Mazy Morris. I chuckled, flung more than a few sharp retorts at the ex, and sighed at the end.

MY RATING GUIDE: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= It was sweet/cute; 3.5= I enjoyed it; 4= I LIKED IT A LOT; 5= I loved it, IT WAS GREAT! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

FETCH ~ a Short Dog Park Sweet & Clean Romantic novella.
Bookkeeper Sarah/FMC is abruptly dumped by her 7th “steady” boyfriend in 7yrs in the office of her Boss, “the ex” (consistently and depressingly averaging 1 boyfriend/year). Stunned, she hazily walks passed her jacket, cubicle and out the main door vowing to write her resignation effective immediately as soon as she gets home. Sarah will never return. But what now?

MMC/Lawrence is Sarah’s first client in her temporary new job. He is patient, authentic, hard working and knows his own mind. I loved Lawrence! (Sooooo much better than “the ex” - money and position aren’t everything/anything! - IMHO). 😉

FETCH ~ A DOG PARK ROMANCE novella.
1) FLETCH is perfect length for reading quickly before bed, during lunch break, while waiting for an appointment or standing in queue - but you may snicker out loud. ;)
2) It is a quick reading and uplifting novella with a HEA. FLETCH had everything I wanted in a romance. I identified with Sarah and with Lawrence, I could even imagine Wally. I was delighted with their HEA.
3) The content is Clean which certain readers prefer yet not lacking romance.
4) I loved FLETCH and intend to check out Mazy’s other works.

I chuckled, smiled, flung appropriate insults at the ex, and sighed at the ending. FLETCH is a Sweet & uplifting story. I see there are 2 more waiting for me and I look forward to listening to them as well.

READER CAUTIONS ~ This is a Clean read which could be read by ages 14yrs and up.
PROFANITY - None.
VIOLENCE - None.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - None.

I Knew the Day I Met You—

I adore the concept of the story: a heartbroken Sara who decides to change her career to become a professional dog walker and then meets her client, Lawrence—a big shot in the art world—and their love-at-first-sight romance. It was refreshing to see a shorter man in the spotlight alongside his lovely dog (I mean, I don't know the definition of short, for example, I heard 5'7 was short? But in Asia, it's an average, maybe tall height!).

However, there are a few things that didn't sit well with me. When Sara and Lawrence first met and went to the park, Lawrence suddenly confessed his feelings for her—on their first meeting!!—which was incredibly awkward and weird. If Lawrence weren’t handsome, this story might have taken a wrong turn. Lawrence explained, “I can tell, right away, who I’m going to fall hard for,” but it was just too sudden. Sara was taken aback too, which is why they decided to take a month-long break while she continued walking his dog—since Sara had just ended a relationship. But during that time, Lawrence was constantly on her mind! Enter the classic “Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder” trope, where his absence sparked a sense of longing and curiosity, increasing her attraction to him. It also had an "Uncertainty Effect" on her—Lawrence’s confession, followed by a month-long withdrawal, created a sense of uncertainty that made her more curious about him, leading her to search for who he really was.

I did appreciate Lawrence's approach to Sara after that month, where he kept leaving her envelopes and messages, asking if she was ready to move on and if she wanted to attend an event he had worked hard on—without showing his face, in case she didn’t want to see him. Of course, Sara ended up going to the theater. However, it was understandable that Sara left that night after the theater due to her social anxiety—everyone’s focus was on her, assuming she was Lawrence's date. Lawrence, on the other hand, had invited her in the hopes that she’d have a fun time and see the world he was a part of. In the end, Lawrence followed Sara to her apartment later that night, and they had a sweet moment together, eating Chinese takeout instead of attending the party meant for him. That was a sweet gesture—him sacrificing his night for her.

The planetarium scene was another highlight. I loved how this adorable couple, still unsure of where they stood, discussed their past relationships and marriage while they met Marcus and his new girl. They even made Marcus jealous as they planned to attend Sara's sister's wedding together—a wedding to a senator (who, if you ask me, is a big narcissist who barely pays attention to his soon-to-be wife). Despite my dislike for Sara’s nosy mother, who seems to think her daughter should be a gold digger (not really, but that’s how she came across to me), I did enjoy...well, never mind, I don’t like the mother at all, especially after she didn't like Wally, the cute dog. Poor Wally got hit and was hospitalized, but thankfully he’s okay!

I liked the ending, especially how Sara got her revenge on Marcus by scaring him. Lawrence and Sara’s cute alone time was heartwarming, with Lawrence saying, “I’m looking forward to four months and three days from now when I ask you to be my wife.” How adorable is that?

Overall, the story had potential, and there were parts I enjoyed, but it didn’t quite deliver the thrill I was hoping for. Some elements were questionable and unrealistic, while others were simply awesome. In the end, it was an okay read!

Love strikes when you least expect it

A tremendous short story. When her boss and boyfriend calls her into the office, she doesn't expect him to break up with her. Leaving with just her handbag she goes to the park. She doesn't want to go back to work but what else can she do. Seeing a dog walker she gets a clear idea of what she wants. With the aid of the dog walker she has her first client - walking the dog of an artist. He professes to loving her but she puts him off. For one thing he's short and for another she's still getting over her ex. Now that she's got a job, she tells her ex that she's a PA to Wally (the dog). Unfortunately it gets back to her mother and she invites both her ex and Wally to her other sisters wedding. Whilst she and the artist have become friends, she doesn't know what to do as he still professes that he will propose in 6 months. A car accident and Wally injured. What will happen now? Will the artist still want to come to the wedding? How does she really feel about him? What will happen when the 6 months are up?

Cynthia gets dumped, quits her job, becomes a dogwalker and meets Lawrence, a dog owner who is not shy about having an immediate crush on her. She doesn't trust guys who do instalove because they're going to fall for someone else next week, but he is willing to wait and give her time. In the end, it turns out that there is a bright side about guys you don't have to beg to love you. Both hero and heroine are short which was a nice change - not every guy can be taller and more muscular than everyone else, with abs for days and biceps wider than an elephant's foot. Although he is kind of a big deal in the art world. This was a cute short read, sort of harmless.

Steam level: Not really.

Fetch is a short rom-com about Sara, a woman who was just dumped by her boyfriend/boss, who decides to quit her job. In her hastiness to get away from work, she runs into a dogwalker and decides she wants to give that a go. Through her journey to become a dog walker, she meets a strange guy with good looks and an energetic dog named Wally. Follow Sara's short journey as she discovers love. This was a clean and fun read.

Short and Sweet

A very cute short story. A few writing and grammatical issues, such as omniscient author POV (even in first person). But not enough to deduct a star. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was because the reason she was resistant to the relationship was contrived. She still needed an emotional arc. It would have been better if Marcus was an instalove, too, and they only dated for 6 weeks.

sweet, cute romcom.
this is the 2nd story by this writer i've read & i like her. not sure if she writes full length books but her novellas are great. i'd be curious to read one of them though.
i also liked that Lawrence was short. The Hero is always tall, dark & gorgeous. this one was short, cute & a talented artist.
Sara was a relatable & likable character. (I too am shy.)

I read it because I wanted to read very very very light-hearted book after a month of going through discouraging statistics and writing. This was just feel-good short romantic Mills and Boons type of a book with some grammatical error. Forgettable. But, it did its needed trick for me.
