Victoria Greene would rather spend her time with machines than the high society she comes into contact with in London. She's happy with her gears and cogs, even if that means she will end up a spinster.
When her father gets the funding for a trip to the Amazon to search for a mythical jewel, she jumps on the chance to come aboard as the Master Tinker. She expected to work on the massive boilers for the airship and to tinker with her mechanical creatures. She never expected the men suddenly thrown into her life making it even more interesting. The inventor, the cowboy, the scholar, and the dreamer are all intrigued by the woman who comes with grease on her face.
But something sinister is amiss aboard the airship and she's determined to get to the bottom of it. Victoria's suspicion rises the closer they get to Brazil and she must figure out the nefarious plans before it's too late.
Can Victoria protect them all against the dangers, from onboard and the rainforest alike? Can such an eclectic team work together and find the Temple of the Rising Sun?
Let the adventure begin...
**This is a Reverse Harem, which means there are mulitple love interests and the Leading Lady doesn't have to choose. It contains mature content, lots of adventure, and some well dressed men.**
Kendra Moreno is secretly a spy but when she’s not dealing in secrets and espionage, you can find her writing her latest adventure. She lives in Texas where the summer days will make you melt, and southern charm comes free with every meal. She’s a recovering Road Rager (kind of) and slowly overcoming her Star Wars addiction (nope!), and she definitely didn’t pass on her addiction to her son (she did). She has one hellhound named Mayhem who got tired of guarding the Gates of Hell and now guards her home against monsters. She’s a geek, a mother, a scuba diver, a tyrannosaurus rex, and a wordsmith who sometimes switches out her pen for a sword.
If you see Kendra on the streets, don’t worry: you can distract her with talks about Kylo Ren or Loki. #LokiLives #BringBackBenSolo

Vic is an awesome female lead. She doesn't giving a flying fuck for society's conventions, is much happier in trousers and goggles than a dress and is sensible and level headed.
To be honest, the story is fine, but nothing massively new. What is really awesome about this book though are the men and the relationship development. It is SO refreshing to have a RH where they aren't all moping and torn about the fact that she loves them all and they love her. The lack of drama was down right refreshing!!!
I would definitely recommend fans if the he re to give this a try. It is a light read with a great harem!
“You are quite forward for a cowboy,” Vic breathed softly, her eyes crinkling at the twinkle in his. “And you’re beautiful for a cyborg.”
Hell's Bells! This is most definitely a 5-star read and I now have a new appreciation for the steampunk genre. This author seriously killed it. I've been in a RH funk lately, and I have found that it is seriously hard to find any others that come close to this masterpiece. With RH, we always get the typical character personalities: nerd, sweetie, badboy, etc. This author strays so far away from that, making me almost weep in joy! Finally!
"Like a clockwork butterfly, you can soar."
The main character in this story is Victoria Greene. She's sweet. She's spicy. She has this take-no-shit kind of attitude that I strive for. This doesn't make her over-the-top snarky or unnecessarily bitchy, it shows that she's *gasp* a female character that doesn't rely on the males in her harem to be her own actual person. Could you imagine? This girl is seriously addicted to her job as the Master Tinker aboard the airship that's on an expedition with one purpose: find the stone and keep it safe. While keeping a wary eye on a suspicious person aboard the ship, along with getting to know four hot men, she gets to work on her passion for adventure and tinkering.
“The stars,” she repeated. “Do you see how they dance for us?”
All of the characters in this book have so much depth. I think I fell in love with each and every one of them. The relationship that really warmed my heart though was the relationship between Vic and her dad. He was remarkably supportive of her and cared for her sooo much. I loved reading about their interactions together. Usually when a father is the single parent in stories, he's either a drunk, or an abusive scumbag. This is not the case here. Vic's father clearly loves her to the end of the earth and worships the ground she walks on. He didn't let grief destroy him. He was able to take up the mother and father roles himself and excel at it. Ugh, I want to cry.
“Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.”
Tons of authors struggle developing a good story when they make it into an RH. With so many characters, they tend to abandon an interesting plot for tons and tons of hot sex and mediocre character development. I was pleasantly surprised to find that we got an excellent balance of all of them. Adventure and steampunk go together like peanut butter and jelly, and this adventure was spectacular! I felt like I was watching the story unfold with beautiful vividness. Like I was actually a character in the story.
This was outstanding and I can't wait to read more of this author's work.
I was looking for some RH steampunk style and wasn't quite sure what to expect (other than gears and other cool junk) when I downloaded this beauty. Boy, am I glad I did.
The plot was on point in this rollercoaster ride and I didn't want to get off. The MC, Vic is not like normal ladies of the time. She loves to tinker with mechanical things rather than go to boring balls. I love that her father supported her throughout the entire journey, and encouraged her to keep tinkering away. He even anointed her Master Tinker for their trip to the Amazon Rainforest.
On the adventure, she meets and spends time getting to know Emory, Jed, Jules, and Bram. They aren't perfect but all have endearing qualities to them.
They are off to find a mythical stone in a temple of the Amazon Rainforest. I've got to say, I was getting Indian Jones vibes and loving it! I wondered if the story would make it to the Forest, but Moreno granted my wish and their trek continued on, even after a terrible disaster occurred.
I love the pacing in this book and the length was perfect! I felt as if I could read on and on. Eventually, all books end and I was really wanting to see more. Which means Moreno has done her job.
I'm marking this series down and waiting (im)patiently for the next book.
This is an exciting adventure in the fashion of Jules Verne, Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, with just the right amount of steamy romance, gripping intrigue, ancient prophecies, and painful betrayals. Author's writing is, as expected, beautiful, consistent, and engaging. The plot is gripping, the world is beautifully constructed, the descriptions are vivid, and the characters wonderfully well developed. The main character is Victoria, a master tinker, who goes on an expedition with her father, and her lovely half mechanical cat Gear. There are some exciting men in the story as well: Jules, a learned scholar, Jed, a charming cowboy, Bram, a master tinker, and Emory, a member of high society and the envoy of the Queen's High Council. Five of them are an interesting group of incredible minds, lacking any hypocrisy or judgement, overly present in some of the other characters. It is interesting how the author presents some societal issues relating to the position of women in the society, acceptable level of their education, acceptable moral values, and choices the society expects them to make. I say interesting as, some of these issues are very much still present. Fortunately, unconventional as she is, Victoria pays little attention to the imposed requirements and lives her life how she chooses. She is fearless, she is incredibly skilled and intelligent, she is focused on her work, and yet she does not lack passion for life, compassion for others, her judgement is impeccable, and her actions justified. She is an amazing character, and it is a shame this book was announced as a standalone, because I would love to read more about the Adventures of Victoria Green! This story is a beautifully written unforgettable adventure that makes a reader smile, and cry, and sigh, and bite nails in anticipation. I absolutely loved it. It is a must read. It is not at all a surprise that this book became a bestseller on Amazon withing the first 24 hours of its release.
An RH book filled with Steampunk adventure and steam(y) scenes ahead. See what I did there? Lol. I love Steampunk novels. Why? Because they are usually filled with strong heroines and unique gadgets and strong worldbuilding plots. And Ms. Kendra hits all these points. Vic, the heroine, is unique: she is independent, mostly due to her awesome and forward thinking Father. She doesn't conform to society and chooses to do her own thing. Loved her spirit!!
As for the men? Well, you get a little bit of everything - that's what's so great about reverse harem, right? What one character may "lack", another character has. It's a balance. But I will say, there is a point where the one does something hurtful - but Vic handles it like a champ and puts him in his place.
The steamy scenes are: 🔥🔥🔥 MF and MFM scenes. Detailed, but not overly graphic as to be termed erotic. Passionate is the word I would use.
In conclusion, it's a great story filled with self-discovery, romance, action and suspense.
What a lovely adventure this book was! A fun and unique, yet familiar steam punk style world, with wonderful characters! I really enjoyed Vic, her supportive relationship with her Dad, and how he helped shape a strong, smart, and fully capable woman. The love is real and tangible between the characters in this book on a familial level, and with the romantic connections, as well. It's also a bit of a mystery, holds history, folk lore and cultural exploration. All is not all sunshine on this trip, however, and beware the darkness in the distance. The main characters push through the sadness and ultimately see the conclusion of their long adventure. This is a great take on the beauty of unconditional love, the strength of the family of your blood, but also the family of your heart, and it's ability to help you survive all obstacles in your path! I hope maybe the author will grace us with a future story with these characters, it's hard to say goodbye, but it was fantastic while it lasted! : )
This was unlike anything else I've read before and I loved every minute of it. Kendra has an incredible talent for storytelling, and I really liked the writing and flow of this book. It moved along quickly and there was never a dull moment. There was so much mystery, excitement, and adventure, it was hard to put down one I started. I kept thinking that it felt like that movie Atlantis plus a lot of steam! The MC, Vic, was such a breath of fresh air and the perfect strong female lead that I love to see in books. She was the master tinkerer on the expedition and she really held her own among all of the guys. I didn't find her immature or annoying, but rather mature and whitty. I can't wait to see what comes next for this author.
DND - Got bored 44% the way through. While the theme was adult, the writing sounded juvenile. I agree w some of the other reviews though in that it was nice that the men didn’t fall into the typical RH roles.
Kendra Moreno is one of my top favorite authors after I read her debut novel, Mad as a Hatter. I have two copies of that book and when I heard she was going to publish a new book, I might have…freaked out a bit *snorts* okay, I freaked out a lot and I didn’t care if she wrote about grass and how green was, I was reading it!
And then I saw the book was in the Steampunk genre and, still excited, I wondered how I would like it compared to her first book, which was a dark fairytale retelling, considering I’ve never read a novel in the Steampunk genre and never been interested in the past. I read the blurb and was bouncing off the walls excited and when I finally got the read the book, I literally was so excited I thought I’d pass out.
I know; I’m a dork! But I’m serious about being that excited. Kendra’s writing got me so hooked in her first book and I was dying for more words from her.
The book. My god, guys, this book is ridiculously amazing. I usually am obsessed with the characters of the novel over the plot, but this book had a plot that matched the brilliance of the main characters. The world was vivid and I loved how the author mixed organic and inorganic themes together to show the parallels of the main characters world. I’ve never been interested in inventing and metalwork, tinkering as they call it, and I can honestly say I am now. I was so fascinated by the main character and her talent for tinkering machines and I could picture everything that the author described to a point where I heard the gears working, the sound of the airship traveling to Brazil, and even taste the food—rich in spices—that the characters ate throughout their journey.
And the characters? Well, Victoria of course was a bada** heroine who took no ones taunts or insults. Strong, opinionated, and talented, she stole the show with this book with her brilliance and natural charm.
“The true merit of man is not measured by his class…it is measured by how he treats his inferiors.”
She didn’t care about what society thought, or what they will think about her. She was raised to believe she could be anything she wanted and she applied that to her life daily. She made me feel brave, like I could conquer anything I put my mind to, and I love that. I loved that I could take something from this book and apply it to my life. I read this book and I left reality for a while, but when I came back to my world, I had something I could take with me and grow as a person. Not many books can do that.
And let me say, ladies, the men in this book were breathtaking! Jules, with his intelligence, boy-like wonder at the mysteries of the world, and boldness—which I did not see coming. There’s one scene with him that had me fanning myself! And then we have Jed, the charmer, the cowboy to her cyborg, and the mischievous man in Victoria’s life. Then we have Emory, the dreamer of the group who is still finding his ambitions, but cares fiercely and is a strong man who cares deeply. And then *dreamy sighs* we have my Bram. Bram is the inventor to Victoria’s tinker, smart, shy, charming, but absolutely hot as hell.
I will not share him. I claim him as mine!
“Even if you are completely covered from head to tow in coal, you would still be the most beautiful woman in the room.”
Seriously, perfect. No mortal is worthy.
I adore this book and will end this rather long review with this: if you haven’t read anything by this author before, I HIGHLY recommend this book!! I’m a huge fan and can’t wait until I get my physical copy to go with her other book on my shelf!
Other mentionable quotes:
“The heart of a dreamer married the spirit of an adventurer: they were the perfect match.”
“He wanted to be more, so much more for her. He wanted to give her the world. Even fools could love.”
“You can quit, give up, decide you no longer want to taste life, or you can emerge from those events, and test your wings. Like a clockwork butterfly, you can soar.”
My first Steam Punk book, at least one that I knew was Steam Punk, might have been others but I didn’t even know about the genre before this book. I was not sure how I felt about the book, I couldn’t really make up my mind whether I liked it or not, so I made lists to help with the rating.
Likes 1. I loved the premise, 2. I loved the strong FMC, Vic, 3. I loved that the harem was not ready made or predestined, 4. I loved the supportive father, to the end, 5. I loved the adventure, to some extent, 6. I loved the mixture of the old and advanced technological
Irritations 1. While I liked the idea of machines being there, I didn’t like the descriptions how they were made, or worked and all the tinkering. 2. I don’t think we were given enough to know the MMCs, I can only remember Emory. He is the only one who stood out for me. 3. I hated how everyone was agreeable, except for Uncle Geoff, even he was meh. 4. The relationship of Vic and her harem was not really believable, it sort of felt like it happened because of convenience not really based on feelings. 5. I really didn’t care that much about all the pit stops, I wish this focus could have been concentrated on other parts of the book that were just treat as inconsequential. 6. Most things were under played; the detour to the native tribe village, the dangers of the rainforest 7. We spent the whole book with Vic worried about the society’s reaction to the relationship but nothing is mentioned once they came back.
For a cool concept this book was rather flat but I do need to read more Steam Punk for me to form an opinion on the genre itself.
I found this book pretty average, which was sad because I've been looking for a good steampunk book for a while. The worldbuilding wasn't that bad, although it kinda went off the rails at the end. I like the technology part of the book, and all the descriptions of Vic's machines are super interesting. I felt like the author had picked a specific time period for the book, but I could not figure out what it was! Apparently this time period still has Regency London social dynamics, but there was also a meta reference to WW2 being soon at one point? The book really went downhill for me at the end.
The characters were pretty okay: Vic, Jules, and Bram were my favorites. Emory felt like the author's attempt at enemies to lovers, but ended up just insulting Vic multiple times before asking her on a date. Jed was just neglected, he got one date and I can't remember them ever having a conversation alone beyond that. His personality was "cowboy", so he was flirtatious and liked guns.... and that was it. The men definitely fell prey to the rh theme where the love interests are stereotypes.
This book was a huge surprise to me. The author brought you right into the world of Vic. I honestly have never read a book with steampunk but I surprisingly loved it . Vic is a master tinker with a disability. She lives in a world where woman were thought to do nothing but be wives. She is such a strong MC and does what she wants to do. She doesn’t let society dictate her life. Vic goes on an expedition with her dad and meets 4 amazing men. This book had it all for me. It had action, adventure, steam and emotional moments. Even if you think this book may not be your type of book give it a chance it will be so worth your time. You definitely will not regret it.
This was my first Steampunk Reverse Harem book and I loved it! Kendra Moreno brings together dynamic group of characters and an incredible adventure. Victoria is a master tinker who is on an expedition with her father to the Amazon to search for a Mystical Jewel. With her father pushing her to find a love interest she has four gorgeous men competing for her affection during the trip, Lord Emory, Jed the cowboy, Bram the inventor and Jules the scholar. This is an incredible story full of action, suspense, love and sacrifice. I totally recommend this book and I hope there is a second book as I would love to read more about Victoria and her men!
I will admit I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting, but I very much liked the title and art work. Steampunk appealed to me, and I was interested in learning more about the young woman in the cover. I was met with a delightful adventure, and handsome suitors. One of my favorite characters was Gear, the cat. I think I'd enjoy having my own Spider. If this book is ever adapted into a movie I hope they do not cast a well-known actress and simply CGI an artificial cog leg. Instead, I hope they are determined to find an actress who lacks a limb and they build her a lovely steampunk leg.
I was skeptical about this book at first. Mainly because I’ve never read a steampunk based novel and I was unsure if I would like it. I am happy to say that I was absolutely blown away.
Victoria is different from society standards. She is brilliant and not one to follow the norm. The men are all different in their own ways as well but they all seem to fit so cohesively.
This book has action, adventure and is shrouded in mystery. There was love, betrayal, heartache and so much heat.
I am beyond excited that there will be a second book for Vic and her men. I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures they all have.
This book!! Where should I start... I read the first 65% in an afternoon, then something happened that made me so mad I couldnt read for two days, but of course... I had to see what would happen next! Vic is a wonderful trinker, not only that, she knows how to stand her ground and get what she wants, her father is my favorite character in the book!.. and of course, her harem is awesome!! I really hope there will be more of these books because they are too good to stop there
This book was amazing! I have never read a steampunk version of a Reverse Harem, but she rocked it. I absolutely love the main character Vic. Independent, strong-will, never lets anyone tell her she can't do it. I love the fact that she never ran away from a fight and always did what she believed was right. I liked most of the men, Emory annoyed me a little. I think Bram is my favorite, but I like Jed and Jules too. Uh, it's so hard to choose. lol
I’ve read many, many books, but this one is takes the cake. When I first found it I squealed so loud I scared my cats because it has absolutely everything I love in it: strong FMC, RH, steampunk, a cat companion, and my favourite word- spinster. As I read it, it easily moved to top 5 books and when I finished it, it moved to my number one book. I will definitely be reading this again and again!
In a word: interesting. The romance was quick, but I expected that, as I don't believe this will be a series. I liked that the heroine, Vic, was physically handicapped, but that never stopped her from actively pursuing her dreams and her men. Great characters, and a nice, complex plot-- a few continuity glitches, typos, and a somewhat rushed ending after the big adventure, but overall, I enjoyed the story.
Let me start with, I don't read this kind of story. What I mean is steampunk, love RH. This a story you can step into and sit and watch as their story unfolds. It is captivating, full of adventure, laughter, romance, and hot spots that will leave you panting. I was very impressed with the story line, a cast of characters you will fall in love with. I would say if you haven't read this yet, put it on your TBR list. This book is so good, I loved it.
Why is there no more 😭😭😭 doesn’t Kendra know we need another book. I loved this book (I actually read it a long time ago and didn’t realize my review hadn’t posted so lucky I did a re read). Vic is such a strong Mc and I loved how she didn’t take crap from anybody. She stood up for herself and her worth and it was beautiful. Now if I could just talk the author into book two 🤞🏻
I sort of enjoyed this book. It was an interesting concept, and so refreshing to read something different than the typical reverse harem plot. The story could have used some fleshing out though; even by the end I didn't feel that I knew the characters at all. The writing style was stiff and awkward, and the author never used contractions which prevented any of the dialogue from feeling natural. So was it enjoyable? Ish. Would I read it again? No.
Clockwork Butterfly has everything; romance, intrigue, danger, betrayal, and adventure! This is the first steampunk book I've read but Kendra Moreno did an amazing job weaving an immersive story as we follow Victoria and her guys on an expedition to get the rumored fire opal from a temple in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. Loved it from start to finish and cannot wait to read Vic's next adventure!
I love finding great story’s that weave in the reverse harem theme. So many are just about the romance and have little else to offer. Not this author, she did a fantastic job of pulling it all together into a story I truly enjoyed. Thank you! I sincerely hope there are books that follow for these characters.
This was my first foray into a steampunk novel. It was ingenious. I loved the world of things run on gears and steam. Vic is a very independent Tinker who meets men who support and compliment her spirit. Read Steampunk Butterfly and join them on an adventure that covers several continents. You won't regret it.
My first trip into steampunk and RH both and I have fell in love with both. I loved the world that Kendra Moreno has created here. I loved the guys, each one has a piece of my heart! They have a love of their life in Vic but can they find a way to make it work? This book made me laugh, cry, hurt and want to kill! If you want to fall in love with a whole new world then read this book!
Please? Pretty please, with a cherry on top? Vic was so kickass, I loved her. She was confident in herself, as a woman and a tinker. I also loved her men, although I wish I could’ve gotten more from them. Overall, a great book. If there’s a sequel, sign me up.
This book is wonderfully entertaining. With equal parts romance and adventures it has held my attention from page 1. (It's 2 am by the way.) Is it overly believable? Not really... But neither is Indiana Jones. Download this book and prepare to be entertained!
