عضو نقابة الصحفيين وله أكثر من عشرين مؤلفًا دينيًا وأدبيًا، منها: أنبياء الله، بحار الحب عند الصوفية، مذكرات صائم، مذكرات زوج، أحسن القصص، الطريق إلى الله، قميص يوسف، وغيرها. له برنامج إذاعي يومي بعنوان: كلمتين وبس.

قصة قصيرة مصورة، ولكني أعتقد أن بها أخطاء من نوعية أن قرية سيدنا يونس تقع على البحر، فهو كان من نينوى بالعراق، ولا أعلم لنينوى بحر ،،،
أما عن الحوت، فقد غلبت عليه الحبكة الدرامية وجعلته يضع بعد الاحداث من تصوره، ولا بأس بهذا، ولكن من قال أيضًا أن الحوت قد سرح بسيدنا يونس نحو المحيط، ومن قال أنه لم يبتلعه في بحر ما قريب، كالخليج العربي أو البحر الأسود أو الأبيض ؟؟؟
أما عن ما قد يقرره العلم بشأن عدم تواجد الحيتان بمثل هذه البحار القريبة نسبيًا من العراق، فالله أعلم بشأن هذا الحوت الذي يحتمل أنه كان قد شرد نحو البحار الداخلية بتوجيه مباشر من الله بهدف إبتلاع سيدنا يونس ،،،

أتوقع أن الرسام حلمي التوني واجه تحديا صعبا في هذه القصة فليس هناك الكثير مما يمكن رسمه عدا عن الحوت

Alia El-Serwi is currently partaking in a community based learning course on Children’s Literature at AUC, Cairo, where she is an English & Comparative Literature major.
It is no secret that the Arab world is renowned for its Islamic culture and heritage. The Quran’s teachings and theology are heavily embedded in almost all of the intricacies of day to day life in the MENA region, and consequently so are its stories. In fact, most of the teachings of the Muslim faith are narrated through the stories present in the Quran. Thus it is no surprise that most practicers of the Muslim faith can retell these stories from memory. These stories are well known to the extent that they exist in the collective conscious and memory of an entire demographic of people.
Children, who often find it hard to read the Quran at an early age, are sometimes told these stories orally, often in the form of bedtime stories. However, some people understandably find it difficult to commit to the role of the storyteller, especially when the stories at hand are so deeply rooted in the Quran. This is where Al-Sherouk’s Arabic series, which literally translates into “The Best Stories” comes to the rescue!
The series is compromised of several books, each dedicated to a respective Quranic story. Younes’s Whale is one of those stories.
The book, as its title suggests, concerns itself with the story of Younes, a Quranic prophet. The story itself is simple; Younes gives up on the message God has entrusted him with and abandons his village and people, and is consequently cursed by God. He is swallowed alive by a whale, and lives in his stomach for a while. He is eventually saved by God’s grace through his preserved faith and perseverance. Dark stuff, right? Wrong!
The book presents the story, which might be a bit difficult to tell to a child, in a very simple and wholesome way. Helmy El Touny’s beautiful illustrations are also a magnificent aid to Ahmed Bahgat’s writing. Although the story is written in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), which many Arabic children don’t necessarily speak, it is both coherent and easy to read. There are admittedly a few littered words that a child might find difficult to understand, however this gives children room and space to discover new words and search for their meanings (which is a big part of what reading for children is about).
You can pick up this book at most Al-Sherouk bookstore branches, and remember that the book’s theological context makes it an interesting read for both adults and children!
