When the Gifted rose, society fell. The global emergence of humans with supernatural powers triggered war on an unforeseen scale. The result: near extinction of all humanity.
But then the New Order formed. From the ashes of humanity, Patriarch Zather assembled a government and built the Squares—enormous, walled safe-havens where society could be restored. Ruling with an iron fist, the Patriarch waged war on the remnants of the Gifted, refusing to stop until every last one of them had been eliminated.
This led to the militia—an organized group of corrupt gun-wielders patrolling the streets in the Squares, keeping the Gifted out, and shooting the homeless for sport. The Patriarch’s militia did not enforce the law—they were the law.
Marx doesn’t know where he came from, and his only connection to his mysterious past is a tattoo on his arm. He doesn’t care about the war, the Gifted, or any of the politics. He just wants to learn what happened to his family. That is, until he made an enormous discovery: he is Gifted.
Between the Patriarch, New Order, and militia, Marx has had enough. In a quest to discover who he is, he bands with other Gifted to organize a strike back against the corrupt New Order. The Patriarch thinks war is nearing its end, but Marx sees otherwise: War has just begun.
Jesse Haynes writes fiction and non-fiction, selectively, depending on how many bills he needs to pay. He lives in Tulsa, OK and his content marketing work has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Marketwatch, Inc., and more. Haynes got his MBA from The University of Tulsa, but the only time he uses it is when he throws buzz words like "return on investment" into his young adult novels.
Jesse enjoys playing basketball, staying active with his church, and hanging with his family, He has a dog named Biggs, too, who's the best dog in the world and you can't change his mind.
X-Men meets Star Wars meets The Hunger Games with a twist.
I'm lucky enough to be Jesse's critique partner & beta-reader, and I'm so excited about this one and can't wait until it's out so everyone can meet my sassy adopted son & his friends.
