Hmmm...so this turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I just adore this author's writing, and this one was no different in that regard. It was also very well paced. The plot was engaging and certainly had me turning the pages. The sex scenes were suitably hot. It was somewhat angsty, but nothing too bad. There was no OW or OM drama (apart from a blip right at the start). It had a couple of interesting secondary characters (although I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Ryder). Last, it all wrapped up in a sweet ending.

description

My main issue with this one was I just didn't love either of the main characters. Something about Brenton just rubbed me the wrong way throughout the entire book. I *think* maybe I just needed him to grow a pair of balls and chase after the heroine. He seemed like a serious f-ck-up (drugs...maybe cheating <-- I am waiting to hear from the author on that point) when they were younger (h-17, H-21), and now it is 13 years later, and he is back with a significant Eeyore complex that lasted throughout the entire book. I kind of felt like the onus should have been on HIM to fight for the relationship, at least once he got his memories back but it turned out that Rebeka basically did all the chasing. Which unfortunately made me feel like she was a bit of a doormat. Especially when she jumped right back into his arms...sigh. I guess I would have liked to see her make him work at it a bit.

I don't know...anyways...I still enjoyed it quite a lot. It wasn't my favorite by this author, but like I have said many times before, you can't love all book babies equally (lol). I am still a massive fan of Miz Mitchell's writing (and the author herself because she is a LEGIT sweetheart), so I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve for us next (maybe a book featuring Ryder? Kyle?). Whatever it is I will be standing front row center to get a copy in my little jazz hands (lol).

okay, I am normally not the biggest fan of second chance romances. And when I started this one, it was looking like a book filled with drama and too many secrets. So I sat there and actually thought this is gonna be a long book because it is so rare an author can write a book filled with all that and not make me annoyed at the characters at making everything harder than it needs to be. BUT not this book! After I got to know Brenton and Rebeka I started slowly to fall in love with them. In the beginning, I was so confused at what Brenton had done! He had lost all his memories of Rebeka and all there secrets and heartbreak. But slowly throughout the book, Rebeka helped him remember and for everything he remembered and they shared my heart broke a little more. Even with all the sexual tension and their history it still was a slow burn to get to some feelings other than hurt, betrayal, anger, and lust.

She was more than a cure. This woman was my salvation.

This book had me captured through almost all of it. It had me saying srew tomorrow morning I need to know what happens next, and it had me filled up with so many conflicted emotions, I could be sad and at the same time I was feeling a little hope and joy. I could get frustrated and at the same time curius. This author nailed this book and got my attention!

Pulling her close, i tucked her head to my chest and stroked down her hair. ''do you hear that?'' Beks's head moved up and down. ''That's the sound of a heart exploding.''

So do you need a Second chance, slow burn love story filled with tragedy, hope and love I will recommend this one.

“Your past does not define you. My past sure as hell doesn't define me. It molded us, yes, but it's not who we are now.”

To the others, he was just an addicted playboy. For her, he was her best friend, her first love, her everything. Until a car accident changes the course of their lives.

At age 21, Brenton Graves is addicted to drugs and alcohol. One day, he woke up in a hospital room, not remembering how he got there, and then he is sent straight to the rehab.

Today, he is a military with a problem. Thirteen years after the life-changing accident he is one of the best helicopter pilots in the army. But recently he had blackout episodes and fainted. After consulting several doctors, without success, he returns to Texas for his grandfather's funeral. And he can find the answers he was looking for.

Thirteen years ago, Rebeka Harding almost lost her life. And earned a bad reputation. Betrayal, lack of love and abandonment define her traumatic passage from adolescence to adulthood. And her life was quiet, until a reunion at a funeral and an unexpected proposal promise to disrupt her life, revisiting her past and opening old wounds.

Rebeka is a strong protagonist, but very human and real. With the courage to overcome her fears and show her feelings. Fierce, strong but also sensitive. She takes some risks, on a journey that can both guarantee her happiness, or can destroy her completely. Once again.

Drama. This is the word that defines the tone of the book. The process of Brenton's memory recovery is moving, painful, comforting, uncomfortable ... It's to be left speechless. A complex male character. Strong and at the same time fragile. A man haunted by his father figure and the mistakes of his past. Impossible not to be moved by the unfolding of his history.

A narrative full of emotions and revelations until the last chapters. And that teaches us a painful truth:
Your biggest enemy may be within your own family.

An emotional second chance…

It’s all about timing and Brenton and Rebeka, ‘B’ and ‘Beks’, are given a second chance to make things right. B is suffering from health problems. Problems, he feels his past could unlock and resolve. He’s going home to bury, or uncover his past, whichever will hand him the keys to his future… Beks is home too, back in the middle of complicated family. She doesn’t want to be there but grabs the opportunity for closure with both hands. They were once devoted lovers but something went terribly wrong. Reunited once again, they were going to argue, laugh and love their way to final closure or a new beginning. It was going to go either way…

I’ve loved every story this author has written and B and Beks story was no exception! Lighter than previous reads, the emotional punch was still devastating as B and Beks fought each other and their family to dig out the truth. And that truth made me angry too as betrayal, while not a surprise, stung deep. The main characters, and Ryder as the faithful bestie (everyone should have), were perfect as they supported each other through every moment of discovery and each devastating truth.

Another great read from this author!

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Memories of Us by Kennedy L. Mitchell is a small town, memory loss, second chance romance.

Brenton left his hometown 13 years ago and turned his life around, got sober and joined the army. When he starts experiencing black outs, he thinks they might be connected to the missing gaps in his memory. When he returns home for his grandfathers funeral and locks eyes with Rebeka he knows whatever he can't remember must be important.

Rebeka is finally ready to face Brenton and get closure over him breaking her heart in the past. She isn't prepared for him to not remember any of it and hesitantly agrees to help him remember in the short time he will be home.

Even though she knows he will be leaving again she can't stop her heart from healing and falling for the man he has grown up to be. Their chemistry is undeniable whether they are in a heated embrace or just having fun. But will it be enough to make him stay and will the truth about their past break Brenton beyond repair?

Brenton, your past does not define you. My past sure as hell doesn't define me. It molded us, yes, but it's not who we are now. "

I loved Rebeka's personality. She spoke her mind and was blunt and feisty. I loved how she would purposely press Brent's buttons, which more than once lead to some steamy scenes. The sex between them was hot hot hot. They couldn't get enough of each other and Beka wasn't shy to voice her needs in the bedroom. I have a weakness for a man with tattoos so Brent was just right for me, but his arrogance grated on me a little. Towards the end of the story, I felt sad for him but frustrated with the "she deserves better than me" attitude. To end my thoughts on a positive, the epilogue was absolutely perfect and everything I wanted for Beka and Brent!

I really enjoy Kennedy L Mitchell's writing. She creates real and heart felt characters that I love to read. Already looking forward to her next release!!

"Lips parted, heart hammering, I became lost in his green eyes as we lay nose-to-nose. “Just one taste.” His soft lips brushed against mine. Warmth bloomed at every point of contact"

"What was it about her that I couldn't get enough of? The honesty, the crude mouth of hers, or the feeling of belonging and peace that settled in me every time she was around?"

The BEST ‘Memory Loss’ story I’ve ever read. This book pulled me out of a reading funk I was sliding into lately!

So Brenton & Beka’s story is a MUST READ! A romance filled with sadness, laughter, bossiness, blunt unapologetic sexiness, sass, threats to whipping and kicking ass, heartbreaking reveals, redemption, forgiveness and making up for lost times. Lots of making up!

One of the most compelling stories told with a lot of great humour, sass, maturity and lots of fun! I love that Beka was real from the beginning. The hurt warranted a lash out, but with time, growth and explanation, comes understanding and forgiveness. She has the most sassy and real personality. Blunt should be her middle name lol and you don’t ever want to test how much she cares about a person (ask her brother)!

Brenton is someone you just can’t help but love. Through all the fog memories up until it was all clear, you could tell he’s got heart! Brenton and Beka’s story squashed all the annoyance I felt towards ‘memory loss’ stories. Broken in their own ways but felt beautifully and brokenly whole together. Two beautiful imperfect souls that were perfect for each other - can’t get more beautiful than that!!!

BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN. Every detail of this story was so compelling. Kennedy writes amazingly and she has the kind of talent that you’ll read about and want more and more! Get yourself a copy of this beautiful book. You will not be disappointed. If you’re new to her work, read up her other ones too. She truly is an amazing writer!

ONE-CLICK Brenton & Rebeka’s story!

Memories of Us is such an intense, heartwarming, heart wrenching and loving story! There were so many twist and turns in this book that I kind of saw coming but reading it and experiencing it was something else. The love and chemistry between Rebeka and Brenton is out of this world! You can feel how they feel even when they don’t say the words or when they act out towards each other.
This book will be out December 10th and I would recommend you all do yourself a favor and PRE-ORDER IT NOW🥳🥰

Brenton and Rebeka know each other when they are 18 and 15 respectively. Her father works for his father and they are joined by their bad relationships with their abusive parents. Friendship soon becomes love, but Brenton’s addictions end up being a problem for the couple. One night they have a terrible car accident, Brenton was driving high and soon after Brenton disappears.
13 years later, Brenton returns home to attend his grandfather’s funeral and Beks takes the opportunity to confront him and thus be able to get closure. But what is not expected is that Brenton does not remember anything. Brenton asks Beks for help to remember, he only has 5 days before he has to return to military service. And during those days they remember everything bad and everything good, and all the feelings of the past reappear with more force.
Every time Brenton recovers a memory he feels increasingly guilty for everything that Beks had to go through alone, but she doesn’t let him sink and shows him that she is strong enough to face everything. But when both discover what really happened the night of the accident, the involvement of both families in their separation, the pain is almost unbearable.

“No, not Beka. Beks.” My old nickname pouring from his lips, in his voice, snapped the trance. “Remember me?” Chest rising and falling at a rapid pace, I pursed my lips and drew in a deep breath through my nose. “You asshole! Good to know you remember the girl you screwed over, the girl you almost….” Building tears threatened to expose the devastation his words caused. “You know what? Fuck this, and fuck you.”“You have to understand something. There are years of my life, whole years, that I don't remember. Maybe a few hazy memories here and there, like the ones with you that popped up, but nothing solid. When I saw you in the house, snapshots filtered through. Not real memories, if that makes sense.”“What?” “Peace. A settled, comforting peace. I need help, Beks, and I know I don't deserve it, but I'm asking anyway. Don't ask me why, but I think you're my only hope.”“Five days,” he continued when I didn't respond. “The attorneys will be here in five days to settle Pappy's estate. I'll stay here until then, if you're willing to help.” I opened my mouth, but he pressed both his thumbs against my lips. “I don't expect an answer right now. Come find me when you decide. I'll wait. But I hope you do.”

“After Caleb died, I started having these episodes of blacking out. One second I'd be fine, and then the next I'd be sweating, couldn't control my blood pressure, and my vision would go dark.” Looking away, he sighed and tightened his hold on my hand. “It’s happened enough to drive me to take some time off work to get myself better. Before I got the call about Pappy, I was already in Dallas and had started seeing a therapist in hopes they could fix me. But then came the call, and now you. I can't explain it, but I think you can help me.” “But why me?” I asked, almost too afraid to hear his answer. “The flashbacks, snapshots, are of us happy. Me happy.”

“No sex, no touching, no instigating. I know you. I'm the one with the memory of us, and I don't think I could take having you to lose it all over again.” “Will you tell me what I did?” “I'll help you remember, how’s that? Do we have a deal?”“Want to rethink the no touching, Beks?” he said against my lips before sucking down my neck. “I sure as hell wish you would. No way I'll be able to keep my hands off you. Not when you look like this, when you smell fucking delicious.”

“That's what you said before. Don't you get it, B? It didn't end well. You left me. I told you…. You knew, and you signed a very cut-and-dried document stating I could never reach out to you again, never find you, never mention we ever happened. I woke up in the hospital alone. Alone and scared. You turned your back on me when I needed you most. That's why I hate you.” She choked back a sob but couldn't stop the tears from escaping and falling down her cheeks. “You paid me off. The money put me through undergrad. So every class, every book I bought, I thought of you and how to you I was a disposable fling. I loved you, you fucking bastard.”

I'm Brenton Graves, and I get what I want. And I wanted Rebeka Harding around more and more. And for some unknown reason, I needed her to love me again as she did years ago. Did that make me an asshole? Yeah, probably. But I wanted her to care because I did, even though there was no future between us. Her home was here and mine in Kentucky, plus being gone six months to a year at a time on deployments.

“I want to see every beautiful inch of your amazing body. I want to bite every perfect damn inch.” “Yes,” I encouraged. “I’ll mark you as mine and mine only. Feet on the tailgate, baby, and don't move. If you don't want your panties ripped off your fine ass, I suggest you take them off. Now.”

“I don't deserve your forgiveness. I deserve your hate and resentment for what I did to you. Hate me, Beks. Please, please hate me.” “What?” I asked, staring at his dark lashes. “Hate me. Hit me. Tell me to fuck off and what a hateful, terrible bastard I am. Because that's what I am. Who I am. These past thirteen years, I've lived a damn lie thinking I was better than my father, and look at me. I forgot the woman I loved, nearly killed her, and killed our unborn child. I'm a worthless human being, and that's what I deserve to be seen as by you.”

“You might be the death of me,” he murmured before kissing back down my neck. “How will I ever focus on anything other than you again?” “Don't,” I sighed, eyes still closed, savoring the moment. “I like being your only focus. Don't go back. Then we can do this every day.” A soft laugh brushed over my shoulder. “It doesn't work that way with the military. They call that going AWOL.” And just like that, the cherished moment ended, and the reality of our situation washed over me like a bucket of cold water. “But if there were ever a reason to abandon my post and brothers, it'd be you.”“I'm not enough to convince you to give it up. That's what you're saying.” “That's not what I'm saying and you know it.”

“For the record, this isn't me walking away from the real Brenton. It's me giving up on the man you believe you are.”

What a rush!
Rebeka & Brenton all i have to say is I NEEDED MORE, i wanted to know more..i need to know about...well i can't say but hehe i really needed more of them. Besides loving of the heroine name, i loved her period! Down to earth, broken, sassy and in love with love. After the tragic incident back when both were very very young, it left Brenton in a state of "not remembering" due to black outs, medical reasons. This storry will have you question love but also believe in it again. There was a lot of suspense, i really liked that. I will have a full BLOG REVIEW on this wonderful book. Interested to check it out, here is the link ( www.theguidetoromance.wixsite.com/mysite )

A heartbreaking second chance romance that pulls all the heart strings. This is one of the few books, I've cried while reading. It doesn't help that my grandparents had a farm growing up so many of my own memories intermingled with this story and characters. It is a must read!

Brenton Graves left his grandfather's ranch right after high school for college. Both he and his brother, Caleb attended school in Dallas--six hours away from the ranch. It also placed both boys closer to their alcoholic father who uses people, women, and drug more than toilet paper. Oh, and the Graves family are oil tycoon rich from Brenton's great, great, great, great, great grandfather. The ranch has been in their family for generations. Too bad Brenton doesn't remember much from his teen years through to his early twenties. Until he woke up in a rehab center with his grandfather looking over him. That was the day everything changed. Brenton cleaned himself up and joined the Army.  He hasn't set foot on the ranch since.

Until his grandfather dies.

Rebeka Harding has never forgotten her first love, her first everything. After the accident, he left without a word. He did leave word with his family lawyers and a bunch of papers. She did what she needed to. Complete with a Vet degree from Texas A& M. She came back to the area, sorda. She lives a town over. She can't stand the town she grew up and the way people treated her after the accident. How they blamed and name called her for what happened. Now, the man is back for Old Man Graves funeral. Time for closure. To finally tell the man who shattered her heart to smithereens what she thinks about him and his actions.

Until she realizes he has no memory of them together.

Brenton asks Rebeka to help him remember so he can eliminate his black outs and panic attacks or the Army will med board him out. He needs to remember something from his past. He thinks it has everything to do with Beks. The more time he spends with her--the more he remembers. His mind doesn't remember Beks but his body does. It takes everything to keep his distance from her. He doesn't know how much longer he will last.

What will happen when he does remember? Will their new fragile relationship handle the huge secret?

Brenton Graves has cleaned up his life since he was sent to rehab 13 years ago. Now with the death of his grandpa he has returned home to the ranch after being in the military.

Rebeka Harding is not happy with the return of Brenton and how he can't seem to remember anything that happened between them 13 years ago. Her father wants her to stay as far away from Brenton as she can yet she feels drawn to him, even after events of the past.

When Brenton realizes he has no memory of events of the past will he ever find out what happened and will he and Rebekah discover the truth about the past for which they had no control?

This was such a great book and I loved it from start to finish!

There was so much mystery about the past and we got glimpses of things but nothing really concrete but slowly the pieces began to fall together and it was worth the wait!

I thought Brenton was a great character although at the beginning we never really knew why he was being sent to rehab and if it was because he did something stupid. It was sad what happened to his brother Calder and it was clear that his family had their own issues.

Rebekah was a wonderful character who worked hard at becoming a veterinarian in spite of her father and other factors that were against her. I loved that she gave Brenton a chance at the beginning for friendship and helped him out when he needed it.

I liked when we discovered what had happened in the past although I was super sad for Rebekah and what she endured. I was shocked at the agreement that she was forced to sign but I really believed Brenton!

I loved what was revealed by Brenton's grandpa and I was so glad that the truth came out about everything!

The end was so awesome and I can't wait for more from this author!!

I absolutely devoured this book! Kennedy L. Mitchell knows how to write contemporary romance with twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages. This second chance romance was emotional and suspenseful as a forgotten past is remembered. I fell hard for Brenton - the broken and arrogant millionaire who ran away to join the army and left his family ranch; and I loved Rebekah - the broken-hearted, sassy Texan vet who has not let go of their past. These two together were HOT, HOT, HOT...their banter, their past, their chemistry, everything!!!

I love a good southern ranch/cowboy story, and this book delivered! Not only is Brenton a cowboy, but he also left his well-off family to join the army. This man is a COWBOY AND A MILITARY MAN - are you kidding me?!?! Although he is very confident and sure of himself, he also has a troubled past and big memory gaps. But when he first lays eyes on Rebekah again after several years, there is an unmistakable spark and trigger of Something in him. I was immediately drawn to his rough exterior, yet gentle and broken interior. This man has been through heartache and tragedy, and refuses to let his walls down. But as he & Rebekah spend more time together and revisit their past, both of their vulnerabilities surface and you can't help but cheer them on.

I loved Rebekah - she is smart and sassy, and takes no crap from anyone, especially Brenton. She definitely lets her emotions show, and the raw pain that she felt after her heartbreak with Brenton, which she has carried with her over the years, is so real that you will shed tears for what she/they went through.

I could not stop reading this book - the slow unraveling of the truth of their past leads to family turmoil and surprising twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages. K.L. Mitchell did a fabulous job of not only creating characters who you will fall for - but also writing a story that is so captivating you won't want it to end. Well Done once again KL Mitchell!!

This was my first Kennedy Mitchell book and I was extremely pleased with how it turned out! I also loved the idea of it as soon as I saw the blurb and thought the amnesia aspect was going to be quite the ride. I was not wrong about that either!

This book went through all the emotions- I loved getting the full back story and I loved how it was given to the readers in little pieces, so that we got a little glimpse at a time and then could speculate which way it was going to go. Then we got to be completely surprised when the author went in another direction with it. I love when I can't guess everything about the book, and after finishing it in one sitting, I can now look back and see exactly how much was jam packed into this book. It was a lot!

The main characters both have a lot to overcome- and they both have their secrets. I love that they both bring out the best in each other and I love old, familiar love. My heart completely broke at finding out one of the secrets, but it really was the glue that made the book everything it was!

Because at times I wasn't exactly sure which way this book would go, I was a little overwhelmed with all of the events that took place!
SO MUCH happened and was packed in this book, but it was still such an enjoyable read. This was my first, but definitely not last book by Kennedy! If you want a feel good, splash of military romance then this book is definitely for you. The ending was definitely worth the wild, crazy ride!

Memories of Us by Kennedy L. Mitchell
“Second chances, 5 stars”

Rebeka’s life hasn’t been the same since the car accident years ago. The life she thought was ahead of her changed and its about to change again. Will she listen to what Brenton has to say or will she shut him down before he even gets a chance? There is one thing Rebeka has learned is that nothing goes according to plan.
Brenton once lived a life on the reckless side, but times have changed and he’s always in control. Or so he thinks. When he goes home after the death of his grandfather he’s in for the shock of his life. He never expected Rebeka. Will she help him remember what he can’t?
I loved Memories of Us. I didn’t know about the whole amnesia thing before I started, I was on the fence about it but by the end I was happy with it. These two were meant to be and it was more than obvious. Memories of Us pulled me in from the get-go and now that it’s over I can’t help but wonder if Mitchell will give us a little more of them in the future.

I was given an ARC of Memories of us by Kennedy L Mitchel. It’s a story of a couple from different class levels. He comes from the wealthy family, she’s the daughter of the hired help. They fell in love when they were young but were separated by their family after an accident. Fast forward 13 years to present day when he, Brenton, is back in town after the death of his grandfather and Rebeka shows up at the funeral in hopes of finally getting closure.

I was attached to this book from the moment I started reading it. You are invested in the story right from the begging, wanting to keep reading to find out why Beka hated Brenton so much. Their back story was so tragic it breaks your heart and you hope they can get past this and fall for each other again.

The book was a 5 star read. I love Kennedy’s writing, she breaths a fresh air into romance books with a new perspective I haven’t read in romance novels yet, I’m happy to say she’s a new one click/ pre-order author on my list after her last 2 amazing releases.

Rebeka and Brenton were young and in love. Even though they came from very different lifestyles the planned a future together until an accident sent them on different courses that they have never recovered from.

Thirteen years later Brenton is back in town for his grandfather’s funeral. Rebeka is looking for closure from that terrible day and Brenton is hoping to regain the memories that he lost. They are both damaged by the past will this finally be their chance to heal?

These characters will draw you in. Rebeka is feisty and although she has moved forward in her life she hasn’t dealt with her past while Brenton is a good man but his memory loss has taken a toll and it is only with Rebeka he feels whole. Full of suspense and twists this is story about forgiveness and second chances.

Brenton and Rebeka fell in love but were torn apart years ago. When they see each other after so many years apart, so many unasked questions, so many things that needed to be answered can't be by Brenton because he doesn't remember. He feels peace around her and he doesn't have a lot of that in his personal life.

With him and Rebeka getting to know each other again, the memories start coming back. Is he going to like what he remembers? What's he going to do with the information that he didn't remember but now knows?

I did feel like it was choppy in places and the flow could have been smoother but all in all a good read.

It didn’t take long to get sucked into Brenton and Rebeka’s story. I love B’s arrogant personality and Beks’ feisty spirit. Watching them navigate through Brenton’s memory loss and Rebeka’s past heartbreak had me on the edge of my seat to see if they would find their way back to one another. Well written love story with plenty of sexy romance as well! Do yourself a favor and pre-order for the December 10th release!

Loved Beks and Brenton! My first KLM book and I fell in love with her writing style. Relatable characters with a lot to overcome to get their HEA. Filled with secrets, great characters, and an amazing love story this book will give you all the feels. Will they be able to unlock the secrets of the past to move forward in their relationship? You have to read and find out!

Memories?

What a fantastic book! It was nonstop reading. I wanted to yell at everyone to tell them to stop being so stupid. The fathers were not dads. They were more monsters. They didn’t deserve to be fathers. The book had heart.
