"As many teens struggle with what career to select and often are not aware of the full spectrum of options available to them after high school, this title will provide library staff and administration with examples and best practices for career programming for teens, including career readiness workshops and an annual trade school fair"--
Very Helpful programming ideas for teens in the library. It does also try and incorporate the parents, and ways to specifically cater it to teens, without sounding like its meant for the parents to hear...lots of programming ideas (like a vocational fair, can you do it as well as the professional), but stressing the main thing is that teens see that they have options (because teens don't want to be forced into anything, even if they like it) specifically in their future, but without beating them over the head with it. Its finding the balance.
The book includes program ideas (including step-by-step), planning and prep (importantly including teen input), appendixes of book ideas for the collection development for teens, ***MARKETING, and statistics and getting feedback from the community and partnering with the school.
To be fair, if I were a teen (who could drive myself or at least had a permit), I probably wouldn't have gone to the library for "career programming", but the beauty of these ideas is the way they market them TO the TEENS instead of to a general audience or their PARENTS, because the way they make some of these programs sound, unruly anti-social teen ME WOULD go, just to see what was up.
