A kept secret. A life altered. A new journey.

Ariane lived her life one book at a time. She would never have guessed those books were about to change everything.

They led her to Orion.

Tall, dark, with eyes only for her. The rest of the world ceased to exist when Orion was around. But during a fateful ash moon, he shifted into a wolf. Ari thought she was dreaming, but she’d recognize those eyes anywhere.

Fiction became reality. Fantasy was actually history. And soon, Ari would learn her role in it.

A pack war was on the horizon, and she was the only one who could stop it.

Nothing would ever be as it once was, because Ariane was now part of the Avynwood Pack.

The Ash Moon was a pleasant surprise. To be honest it took me a minute to really get into the storyline. Ariane, at first, seemed very child like with her thought process. After the story began evolving a bit the book got better and my interest was piqued. By the end I was completely hooked. I definitely enjoyed the differences in The Ash Moon compared to the everyday cookie cutter paranormal books. Michelle Dare set herself and the book apart in the world she created and I look forward to what comes next.

DNF At 1 hour and 48 minutes

The concept of this novel was fantastic! The execution, however, could have been better. Though looking at the concept from a more realistic lense it does make the author character (the character mentioned in the story that's fictional that the heroine is a fan of, not the actual author of this book) creepy considering she publishes all these peoples actual life love stories with nothing left unsaid.

The characters were very robotic sounding and that's what ultimately made me give up on this book. I can skim/fast forward a book enough to finish it but give me bad dialogue that grates and I'm done for. I'd also like to mention how not mysterious but infuriating the hero (Ryan?) came across during the almost 2 hours I listened to the book. I understand the effect the author was trying to have but that ship missed its port and just kept on going. That's how far off it was from the intended goal. The heroine was pretty bland but I'm glad she poked and prodded Ryan pretty much nonstop to get information.

If there’s one thing you should know about Ariane, it’s that she is ~SPECIAL~. Just so super special. Don’t let her fool you when she talks about how bland she looks and how average she is. Don’t believe it. She is ~SPECIAL~.

Everyone loves her. Immediately. Everyone. Men, friend and foe, fall in love with her on sight. Enemies repeatedly mention how likeable she is. Her mate and her love triangle ‘other dude’ are obsessed with her, despite not ever having any deep, thought-provoking, meaningful conversations or any actions to prove her to be extraordinary. For every one time Ariane whines “I’m nobody”, there are two times that someone randomly interjects “I like you” into a conversation with her. But how could they not all instantly like her when she’s just so ~SPECIAL~.

Don’t get me started on her wonderfully powerful powers. Ignore the fact that, in the context of the book, it’s totally unrealistic that she just keeps getting these new cool abilities. Nevermind that she instantly masters them despite not knowing they existed the week before. Powers are even more ~SPECIAL~.

I’ll leave you with some quotes:

“You aren’t just a girl. You’re more special than you realize.” - a guy that met her one minute prior to this.

“I think I’m going to like you.”
*two lines later*
“Right to the point. I like that.”
*two lines later*
“Yes, I like you a lot.”
-her enemy, the first time she meets him.

The dialogue was high school cringey, even with the adults and the guy who’s 100 years old. Like they never grew out of teen girl dialogue either. the characters and the “romance” lack any sort of depth.

Despite the cliffhanger, I won’t be continuing the series.

This is the first book I’ve read by Michelle Dare and wow! The world she built within The Ash Moon was phenomenal. She had me entrances from beginning to end. I loved the characters, not sure who is my fave between Orion and Ford. They’re both so different and their personalities grab you and pull you in. You just want to know more about hers characters. Ford will have you laughing but Orion will have you swooning. There’s so much going on that you can’t help needing to know what’s coming next. Each turn of the page brings us something new and exciting. I really enjoyed reading about these characters and can’t wait to find out what is to come next in book two. Michelle Dare definitely has an eye for YA Paranormal Romance and has become one of my fave authors to read!

Oh my....oh my....oh my!!!!
Michelle Dare is going to have some 'splaining to do!!!!

I can't even begin to explain how outright giddy this book made me. The start is every bookworm's dream. Legit, straight out of our own starry eyed night time fantasies. A meeting with your favorite author...turns into an unforgettable night!!!

But let's not stop there!! Fangirling my way through these characters isn't a good idea. I refuse to ruin the awesomeness that is in these pages But I will say I'm going to beg for more! The endless possibilities with this opening is so mind boggling and yet leaves me so ridiculously hopeful.

But back to The Ash Moon, oh my ...oh my...oh my...
Swoon, sigh, stutter and faint! Is it possible that I have somehow reverted back to my hormonal teenage self!?! If not then how do we explain the giddy giggling, the stars in my eyes, and the debutante like swooning for men I only met this morning?

Explanation is either I regressed 20 years or...Michelle Dare has managed to work her magic and capture only the best parts of my inner teen. (Thank God, the bitchier parts are in hiding!😆) The Ash Moon will come alive before your eyes and somehow manage to pull you into its pages without you even realizing it. Be careful what you wish for because things have a habit of being more than real!

I can't wait to find out where we go from here because as an honorary, not yet named new edition to this tale, clearly I'm going to be front and center for the next part of this adventure. Whether I have to beg, borrow, or main to get my copy, I will see this to the very end.

I was excited to dive into this book because of the great reviews it received on Goodreads. But, unfortunately, I didn’t feel the same way as the reviews I read.

Ariane seemed so childish and not like her age at all. She’s 18 in the book and the author made her seem like she was 14 or 15. The dialogue was a bit too juvenile and obvious for my liking as well. Also, the author did a lot of telling you what was happening and why, instead of showing you. It was “He did this because blah blah blah” instead of showing the character doing that thing. That slight difference could have elevated this book so much. That’s one of the biggest things I noticed about this book.

Ford’s introduction into the story was SO random and I had to go back and reread to make sure I didn’t miss anything. That was a theme throughout the book. I felt like the author would just jump to something entirely new out of nowhere. I didn’t think the story had a natural flow to it. Also, I felt like there was a bigger connection between Ford and Ariane than there was between Ariane and Orion.

The plot of the book and the concept of the book series mentioned in the story “coming to life” was actually really interesting to me. Also, the powers and transferring the powers were cool.

Ash Moon is a Paranormal Young Adult book focused on a Shifter Wolf and a book obsessed 18 year old. Think you’ve read it before? Think Again! Think you don’t like Paranormal? Think Again! The story of Orion and Ariane is unlike any you will ever find again! Michelle has a way of pulling you into her world, making you fall more than in love with her characters. I found myself fully vested in this story, clinging to every word, unable to put it down for a second. I usually shy away from YA, but this book made me feel as if I was the YA in the story, not reading about one. I was able to completely relate to Ariane and feel as though I was living this story through her. It’s rare for an author to do that, on the level achieved in Ash Moon. I loved the unique story line, the blending of what was real in the story with what was supposed to be works of fiction. More than the great story, I really enjoyed the characters. Ariane and Orion were works of art! As a self-certified book nerd, I was able to relate to Ariane right away, and Orion is the hero we all need in our life. Ash Moon is one you don’t want to skip, it is a definite MUST READ!

This sounded like it’d be a good book. It wasn’t. I did not care for the writing style at all; it seemed abrupt to me. But I could have overlooked that if it weren’t for the characters. Ari had the snotty attitude of a girl in junior high... very immature and not even a little bit likeable. Same goes for her friends. And everything Orion said and did felt forced, like an actor reading a script that he doesn’t totally understand or agree with.

Michelle Dare has created a world that sucks you in. I couldn't stop reading. There is something to love about each character. I have said it before with Dare's fantasy books but this series is her calling.

This was a DNF for me. I just couldn’t get into it. I didn’t feel any chemistry between Ariane & Orion. I get more chemistry between her & Ford in the first few paragraphs of them meeting.

Ariane is completely obsessed with a paranormal romance book series so when during a book signing the author Lealla invites her to an after party, Ariane is ecstatic. At the party, she meets a devastatingly handsome boy named Orion who seems to only have eyes for her. Pretty soon Ariane is thrown into a new world full of all kinds of supernatural creatures and dangers she had no idea were real outside the pages of her favorite books.

Ok let's be honest that the relationship between Orion and Ariane meets the perfect definition of "whirlwind romance", Ariane is way too trusting/naive, and yet I really loved all the werewolf mate bond action! Yes, there were times where I wanted to shake Ariane and I rolled my eyes occasionally, but I ate up all the sweet, overwhelming, gushy love scenes. This was very much a paranormal Soap Opera, and I mean that in the best of ways. Yep, this is just the way that I like my werewolf stories.

I enjoyed that this was equal parts romance and paranormal mystery/action, not one part took over the other. It was also a really cool story idea that the author in the book tells factual werewolf meet cute stories and everyone just assumes it is all fictional, even when the featured guys come to the book events and cover model. Talking about hiding in plain sight.

I loved watching Ariane grow and evolve as a character, from a simple delicate human to a fierce warrior in her own right. And Orion with his obvious devotion was so adorable. Ford is one of my favorite characters (even though he is not a main character), all the scenes he was in were really funny and I looked forward to him popping in randomly. His mind reading skills were so inappropriate. I really like that Michelle took a completely different take on vampires, adding a light-hearted quality that I usually do not see in the paranormal world. In general, I really liked this version of vampires, throwing almost all myths on their head. As a side note, all the side characters were very well developed and helped to give depth to the plot and at times some great moments of humor (Flirty Paige is the best!).

I am so into this book now, it just got better and better as the story progressed and now I can't wait to jump into the next book because I have no idea how this will end- huge shocking cliffhanger, fyi, you will need the second book asap. I am hoping for a HEA from the trilogy- but with who... and not everyone will survive

Where to start with this one. Well, let me begin by saying take any preconception that this is a play on anything that is already out there, and throw them so far out the window and never think them again. I have been a HUGE fan of this author for many years and I adore her words. She gives anything from contemporary to fantasy and now some paranormal. With this paranormal book, you will be devouring it every second and every word and let it swallow you whole. The concept alone was utterly brilliant and it takes you on a unique ride of shifters, vampires and everything in the paranormal world!
I have to say Ari is one of my favorite characters that Dare has ever written. She is spunky and does not back down even though she likes to hide in the woodwork. Pretty much a don’t poke the bear with her or she will come at you, all guns blazing. Her bite is priceless. Especially when Orion enters the picture. Their pull is magnetic and you can feel that sizzle between them every time they are close. Like serious sparks coming off the pages. When she falls down the rabbit hole that is Orion’s life, my mind is blown at how it is all played out. How the mates work, how the packs work to even how the vampires play a role as well as other paranormal creatures. Orion is so fierce with Ari. He wants to love her and protect her. His need to keep her safe is a bit overwhelming for Ari but she sees where he is coming from. Then there is Ford. OMG, that vamp is the most priceless one ever. I laughed so hard at his antics as well as how he was protective of Ari and loyal to his friends.
Overall, this start to the series blew me away. I am still reeling from everything that you read in this one because there is a lot to absorb but the way Dare wrote it, it was so fluid that you didn’t realize how many pages you got through! I am so excited to see how this story plays out and how the war will happen but also how things will work out for Ari and Orion. I want to see how things play out for Ford as well as Wake. All I know, is Dare has gold on her hands with this series and I beg you to please read it if you love some YA PNR. It will be totally worth it and you will fall in love with these characters as much as I have already!

Michelle Dare is one of my favorite authors (I have a very short list of favorites). The reason she is is because she makes words flow so effortlessly off a page, that always have me captivated and reading for hours not realizing I've read that long! I'm not a fan of fantasy or paranormal books UNLESS they are written by her!!

Bray, Paige and Ariane scored tickets to go see their favorite author, Lealla. Once they meet her, get her autograph and pose for pictures Lealla invites them to a party at her house. At this party they meet some of the cover models and when Ari meets Orion, her world stops! He's the most gorgeous specimen of a man she's ever seen and he's showing interest in her!!

When Orion ask her to dance and calls her "Little Mouse", she can't move! I totally understand! It's at that point, that I, too, am mesmerized by him and under his spell the same as Ari!! Oh boy, I was a goner at that point!! But, what happens when she discovers Orion is way more than just a hot male cover model? Her world is about to get turned upside down!

This story had so many twists and turns! Poor Ari got way more than she bargained for with Orion. She was always fascinated with the paranormal world, but she never expected the road it would lead her down!

Awesome book!

I am absolutely in love with this book, from page one till the end I was so captivated, I flipped each page slowly knowing that there are two more books to follow this one and that it would end in what I knew would be an epic cliff hanger. I was no where near ready for this book to end where it did, thank god the release dates are so close together.

The characters, Ariane and Orion, that this author has created are just so, I don't even know if there are words to describe how amazing they are, and then there are the best supporting characters of the book that tie them all up into a nice little package and we are given a world of shape shifters, vampires, with more to come I'm sure.

The story, this author writes the words that will suck you and make you feel like you are part of the story, and it was no different in this book. I went on a journey with Ariane and Orion, a journey that has only just begun, I will be waiting for the adventure to continue in book two.

Floved this book

Well I don’t really read YA books as a rule, a few here and there but I love Michelle Dare’s writing so I figured I would try. Ari is just a boring girl trying to get through high school with only a couple friends and her books. Ari and her friends Paige and Brayden are meeting Lealla Raines a paranormal author who invites them to a party at her house. When Ari is introduced to Orion, things right out of the fantasy stories she reads begin to happen in real life but Ari isn’t convinced that what she sees is real. As you go along with Ari and her friends there are some scary moments with humor thrown in, it’s a great escape for a little while. The only drawback is it ends in a cliffhanger and the new one isn’t out yet!

This author is one that i have found can be one you pick up to be able transport you away. I found this to be true also with this one. The nice part about this one is how a favorite passion is used to entice a reader inside. Ash has her books which will be the instrument that changes her path. Then there is Orion whom you discover many things about. Where a world opens up to swallow her up it would seem we have no choice but to follow because we too are part of it. Oh and some of my favorite things from paranormal is in this with breeds also. You will also find this is different still than what she writes as in she keeps her books fresh. Was devoured through this one so that when I turned the last page will look for the next one.

I loved this book! I was not expecting to fall for it but I have all the characters the storyline everything was just perfect! The dialogue was also great. The banter everything. You. Any help but love all the characters even Paige the annoying best friend who has to be involved in everything. Ariana is a normal girl who loved to read her paranormal books, she goes to a book signing of her favorite author only to be personally invited to the after party. She meets Orion and there’s an instant connection a scary one where now her entire life has changed. Everything g she’s read so far in her favorite books are real and now she’s about to become a character in her own paranormal romance. Must read!!!!! I need the second book!!!!!

This read is PHENOMENAL! Full of emotions, angst, and relationships that grew on me.
Ari was a LOVEABLE character that had so witty comments in her head that I had been laughing out loud. Orion hmm... I was not sure of him, but after some time I started to love him, as I started developing a feeling for Ford. And add to it paranormal thing! And you have me won if your plot is not stupid ;)
The ending - bring tissues with you! As it will be hard - no more spoilers here!
I can't wait to read book 2, as I'm still in AWE of that story as I fell hard for that story! Great book for YA readers that I highly recommend.

I so needed this PNR story right now and what an amazing, non stop ride it has been. This story ticks off so many boxes for me: shifters, strong women, hunky men and underneath a love story. Ariane (Ari) is just an average high school senior but within weeks, finds her world flipped on its axis. Orion (or Rion) knows that Ariane is his mate and he will do anything to protect her.

Ari and Rion, along with his friend Ford and her friend Paige forge a friendship or truce as they race to find out why Ari is suddenly thrust into the middle of a shifter war. I freaking loved this and cannot wait to read more!

This was one of the better written novels. I also thoroughly enjoyed it! That being said, the ending just felt so off, pulling in the best friend, and the vampire powers, and everything else inbetween. I initially planned on giving this four stars simply due to the annoyance of her "say what now" catchphrase and the utter confusion of the love interest supposedly being mature yet utterly childish at the same time.

Nonetheless, I loved the beginning of this novel, it was strong and extremely enjoyable. What reader does not desire to have their favorite works become reality? Along with the idea of how she could be harmed within her dreams.

Michelle Dare has done it again. This time in a brilliantly written paranormal romance. I generally don’t read this genre but this book captivated me. Each character is intriguing and interesting and the chemistry between Ford, Orion and Ari are amazing. A book series that Ari loved reading turns out to be much more and she gets brought into a world no one knew really existed. Is she the one that can change everything and has she met her true mate. This is YA paranormal and first in this series

Ariane is a normal 18 year old school girl - until she goes to a book signing for her favorite author, gets invited to the after party, and meets Orion. She is introduced to a world she could never have imagined. She is strongly attracted to this gorgeous young man - but all is not as it seems - she gets tricked by a rival pack, and her best friend is in danger. Will any of them survive? The book ends with a cliff hanger, and I cant wait to read more of her story as the other books come out!

An amazing and intrigue new book by Michelle Dare which I could not put down. I loved every bit of it. A paranormal story of Ari who meet her author who writes paranormal books but finds out more when she goes to one of her after parties and meets a man of her dreams. The story unfolds and brings to life all of Ari's fantasies. Her life changes and she becomes the books. This book is an incredible read that keeps you hooked throughout with it's magical other realm intwined with current daily life and loves.

I can't wait to read book two The Somber Call. X

A million stars!!! This story was soo amazing!! Fair warning there is a major cliffhanger but so worth the struggle of wanting to throw the kindle at the end. I literally sat there trying to turn the page like it was going to miraculously appear. Lol. These characters will bury themselves in your heart and stay there. I can’t wait to dive into the next book, I seriously need to know what happens!! I can honestly say with the emotions and feel of this story, I wish I could read it a hundred times like it was the first time.

I'm so glad Michelle decided to write this YA paranormal romance! There aren't enough words to describe my love for this new series. I have been a fan of Michelle's writing for years and love everyone of her books. This new series pulled me in. I couldn't put it down. There were many twists and turns. It was impossible to guess what was going to happen next. The writing will suck you into Ari's emotions and keep you engaged in the storyline.
This is not a standalone and ends in a massive cliffhanger.
Told in Ari's POV.

Pure escapism in a book what, a read absolutely phenomenal.

From the start I knew this was going to be something completely different for me and it was. I'm not usually a big fan of this genre however I was hooked from the start. Loved the quirky beginning I'm sure all book addicts will relate. We meet sweet shy unassuming Ariane and book model Orion and then we get swept away into a shifter lovers paradise. I really don't want to say anything about the story, I went in completely blind which I think is the best thing to do. I had no expectations no idea where they story was going to go and no idea how much I would love it.

I'll admit it I've been converted. The only thing I was unhappy about was when it finished. I need book two now.
