The beginning of the Geronimo Stilton series (of which there are over 30 books). Between reading these with Will and Beth I have read nearly all of them. Perfect for 2nd to 3rd graders. The stories are about a newspaper reporter named Geronimo who lives in New Mouse City and his adventures - pretty much anything that can go wrong will go wrong for him. There are no people in these books, but the mice have human characteristics.

This audiobook set is awesome. There are lots of sound effects and added background noises to make the stories seem more real. It totally grabbed the attention of my 6 year old, and she often doesn't enjoy audiobooks. My son, who is 9, also loved these books. For an adult, the stories are somewhat dull, silly, and predictable. However, for sharing with younger children, they are great. Looks like a fun series.

I've watched my third graders devour Geronimo Stilton books all year. After I read Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye I understand the draw for transitional readers. The book used text features to illustrate meaning and was chock full of cheese-related puns throughout. The plot was simple but full of action. I will recommend these books to students who are enthusiastic to begin to read chapter books; I wouldn't use this text to practice any high level thinking routines.

A generally reserved and unadventurous newspaper reporter gets pulled into exciting adventures by his family. Audiobook is fun with sound effects, etc. Didn't realize these are originally Italian, though. Geronimo could really be living anywhere and go on these adventures.

JT has really enjoyed the start of this series. We listened to the audio books on our commute to school this week. I anticipate that we will continue with the series.

I love Geronimo Stilton books, but they get better as the series goes on. I feel like the first few books were still a little rough. She definitely found her stride with the later books.

My library has a ton of these books, and they check out all the time, but whenever I take a look at one of the physical books, I can't get myself to read it. I thought this might be the way to get a feel for what the books were like instead.

Audiobook presentation: 5 Stars--Edward Hermann does a great job with the narration. He gives the character a sense of charm that I haven't felt when looking at the books with the words written on the page. His voices for each of the characters were consistent, and the pacing was nice. I would say he elevates the material somewhat, it's a pity he was unable to do all of them.

#1 Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye: 3 Stars--A good introduction to the series because it deals almost exclusively with the four principle characters of this main series: Geronimo, Thea, Trap, and Benjamin. It sets up Geronimo's sort of fussy personality and the way he interacts with his family members as well as the trials and tribulations in the mold that was followed in subsequent books where you are supposed to be somewhat amused by his suffering but happy when everything turns out fine in the end. My one question is how Benjamin fits into the family tree as he does not appear to be the child of either Thea or Trap, so his parents are simply not important enough to mention in the story and content to let him run off for days and even weeks at a time into unknown situations.

#2 The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid: 3 Stars (3.5 star adventure bookended by 2 star opening and closing)--this volume introduces Geronimo's grandfather who begins the story by seizing back control of the newspaper he originally founded but is now run by Geronimo. I realize that the actions brought about by the grandfather's stinginess are highly exaggerated for comedic effect, but I felt like they went way beyond what was appropriate. If they weren't mostly confined to the introduction and conclusion of the story it would have really spoiled it for me. Instead Geronimo is sent off by himself to meet with a scientist who has made an amazing discovery, but various pratfalls ultimately lead to the scientist getting amnesia and Geronimo missing out on the story (until the epilogue).

#3 Cat and Mouse in a Haunted House: 3 Stars--The story felt a bit repetitive to me. It set itself up fine with Geronimo's family being summoned to assist him where he's been stranded in the woods, but of course their motivations for helping him are most self-serving than truly providing assistance (for Thea and Trap at least). However, once it gets them all to the spooky mansion in the woods it simply replays the same scene over and over. Geronimo sees something frightening, runs for help, but cannot prove he saw anything at all once his family arrives, causing them to think he's either faking or scaring himself for no reason. The specific frightening thing changes from scene to scene but it is otherwise the same throughout the main body of the story. Only in the final chapters is there any real change coming with the revelation of the different monsters' source.

Four star review reflects the 3 star stories being elevated by the presentation.

My oldest daughter loves these books, so I thought I would give the audio books a try. It's definitely not my kind of story, but I'm sure I'll still be listening to more of them at her request. The stories were entertaining, especially with the sound effects of the audio book version, but it seems that the general story lines of each of the books was similar. I wasn't a big fan of the last story, since it had all the trappings of a general haunted house story, but the other two stories were okay.

I read a book this summer called Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye by Geronimo Stilton. The main characters are Geronimo, Thea, Ben and Trap. It was about Geronimos sister, Thea discovering a old treasure map. It showed a secret treasure on a faraway island. I liked it because it was mystery and a humor. I recommend this book if you are interested in humor and mysteries.

Such an entertaining series. Originally I checked out this audio book because I was going on a mini road trip with my youngest nephew and he picked it out. However I soon found myself laughing and being frustrated right along with the characters. It also doesn't hurt that one of my favorite actors, Edward Herrmann, does the reading of them. I found them amusing, and delightful.

These are perfect books for second and third graders. The stories are fast paced and short but just lengthy enough for Geronimo to have a little adventure. I have read all of them (or I did read them when I was younger) and they were the highlights of my childhood!

Geronimo Stilton books make reading fun for early readers. These books are action-packed and ideal for 2nd-3rd grade students. They have just enough pictures for students who are interested in moving into chapter books.
