I have been on a nice streak of books that I found to be wonderful reads. This one had a lot to live up to, and unfortunately I don't feel that it did. The story wasn't bad, but there were times I felt that it wasn't keeping me engaged enough. I'll be honest. I didn't even read the bonus story included in this copy.
That Gone Girl blurb was what caught my attention. I was hoping to enjoy the story and be surprised by the plot twists, but that didn’t happened. Both books were very predictable.
The plot of The Babysitter is quite obvious. You know who is the villain -the babysitter, in case you were wondering-, and of course, her motives. So, no surprises there. I had hopes with The Affair, and even though the beginning was ok, the middle and the ending weren’t captivating or amusing.
Overall, I wouldn’t say this a psychological thriller. It feels more like a contemporary drama. Nothing wrong with that, just that it’s not what I was expecting and I’m definitely not the type of reader for that kind of book.
I won this book through Goodreads and I thank to publishers for providing me this copy. My review isn't influenced by this fact.
This was a real page turner. It's about a couple and their 2 children who witness the fire of the house next door to them. The young woman who lives there is now homeless. They offer her refuge in their home until she finds a place to live. In return she becomes the babysitter to their children.
However, she isn't all she claims to be, and strange things begin to happen.
Took me a little bit to get into it but once I did I had a hard time putting it down. It was predictable but that didn’t bother me. Mostly I felt the ending was rushed. The last chapter put an annoying little bow tying everything up without really explaining which, considering the detail put into the rest of the book, was surprising.
A fast read but somewhat predictable. The family was going through so much turmoil and nobody talked to one another. On chapter 71 Justin's name now becomes Cole which was very annoying. You would have thought somebody would have corrected the error.
Highly suspenseful and cleverly written. This would have been a 5 star for me but unfortunately I got a bit fed up around the 60-70% mark because I was getting annoyed that the characters hadn’t worked it out for themselves yet as it was beginning to seem very obvious.
OMG! This drove me crazy by not being able to stop reading and then having to stop reading because ....JADE!! Loved it!! Thank you Sheryl Browne and Goodreads!
I really enjoyed this book. It was predictable and the last chapter was rushed but I still really enjoyed it. The 2nd book is good too just not as good. Solid 4*s
