All Ellie has ever wanted is freedom, but that's hard to find when Earth is under levekk rule. She'll do anything for a better life under the domes of the city--even pledge herself to work as a housemaid for a member of the same alien species she's supposed to fear.
Except her new boss isn't the clean-cut senator that he pretends to be.
His icy eyes are like daggers, and his presence is captivating, but captivity isn't what Ellie signed up for. Signing that contract was meant to free her from poverty, not snare her in an entirely new type of cage.

Helik has been trapped in a lie for so long that he's forgotten who the real him even is. Instead, he defines himself by what he tries not to be: deviant, hungry, wrong.
But Ellie is in his life, in his home, under his skin. She threatens to crack open the perfect mask that holds his self-control, and he fears the darkness that hides beneath.
Can he master his desire for her? Or will he condemn them both?
A girl with her eyes on the stars, but her feet firmly planted on Earth.
And if I can't go to the aliens, I'll just have to bring them to me. Or to my books, at least.
I love exploring the relationships we have with others, especially with those who are different from us. So writing about the similarities and differences we may have with a cold-blooded alien species from another solar system was a no-brainer.
I grew up reading romance, science fiction and fantasy, and I love them all. And I also love down-to-earth stories about *people*, so I hope that comes across in my books!
Dnf at 54%... I'm having such bad luck. I made a stop with this one and re-started the read. It was like waking on Quick sand. Review to come for this one
I like Lea's writing. She's descriptive, she's thorough, she covers everything. Her characters are strong, her plots are complex and interesting. I very much enjoyed her first book in the series, which is why I went for the second.
BUT. BUT....! Good god, this was a slog. It went on. And on. And *ON*. About half-way through, I started checking the progress bar. A lot. That's never a good sign. And it's not like the story isn't good, it's just that the story has some trouble moving, in the middle.
And can I be honest and say that I'm not a second/last born, and couldn't relate to the heroine's problems of 'everyone's always telling me what to do, and worrying about me, and maybe they're right, but maybe I don't care'. Because that really was... it didn't resound at all with me. It seemed juvenile. It seemed kind of pitiful, and I couldn't love the girl I was reading about, half the time because of it.
I also had trouble with the 'many faces' of the hero. He was a politician, so he's fake half the book. Puts on 'masks' so that he can do unpalatable things, say what he doesn't mean, pretend for the public. It took away from him, as well.
Having said, the secondary characters were fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to Anna's story. Not caring so much about the next one in the series (we want to read about the bratty rebel girl? After the bratty baby girl?)
Anyhow. I gave it a three, because anything three or above is worth considering/attempting. But it wasn't anywhere near as good as the first one.
So Ellie enters a program to clean houses for the rich slams in the inner city. It's part of this Human outreach program. Helix is the senator who started the program and he is smitten with Ellie. One problem, amy relationship between them is against the law. And he had buried any emotions for decades so he may never be able to act on them. Will Ellie melt his heart? This is the second book in the series and I think that along with the guest there is some good material here. The storing style is still good and the author kept my ingest the entire time. I was invested in Ellie and exasperated with Helix, so she did a good job.
The story was exciting and kept your attention throughout. An alien romance that brings two different species to fall in love wnere it's forbidden and risk everything to be together. Hopefully you'll write a story reuniting the sisters and how their lives turned out with their Levekk mates.
Very detailed and absolutely captivating! The characters were well developed and interesting. Story is well written and the romance is beautiful. Can’t wait for the next book.
40%of the first part is the 2 main characters go back and forth on wht they won't work. Then the male wants to bail at the first sign of real trouble. Rather boring compared to the first book.
The first book was amazing but this one is ridiculously long and very boring. It went on and oooon bout the routine life of the characters. All this monotony killed the story for me.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different enough from the first book that I was drawn in at new levels. It als left room for follow ups which really pleased me a lot.
Ellie is Lena’s sister from the first book and gets a job cleaning homes in the inner city. The senator she works for, Helik, tries to keep his distance but ends up falling for his employee.
This story was much more introverted. Helik had to discover who he was and who he wanted to be. Just so happens there is a determined little human to push him along. I enjoyed this story. Next!
Sadly, I really didn't like this one compared to the first one. I shouldn't seen it coming from the premise, but I tried anymay and it's really not for me.
But it's not really because of the book, I have a hard time with the forbidden lovers trope and this is right on target. Basically, Ellie is selected for a special program to help humans get a better place in society. She'll be given a job as a housekeeper, will be paid 3 times more than any job in a human district would ever pay. Helik is the one organizing this, he's only doing it for his carreer, he's a politician and this is part of his compaign.
When things are set up, in a world where Levvek cannot be with other species, a politician Levvek falls for a human ( the lowest of the low). And now you see what I mean.
It's just not my type of love story, I skimmed through the last 40%.
Lena's sister Ellie takes center stage in this book. With Lena shipping out so she can be with her Levekk honey at the end of the last book, Ellie is trying to make a go of it in the domed city with the aliens who invaded her planet.
And things aren't terrible there, as it turns out. Sure, they're a little weird since Helik runs hot and cold and Ellie is unexpectedly tapped to be the spokesperson for the humans in the program he runs, but things aren't bad.
Then the weird turns sexy and things get a little more complicated. It turns out Helik has baggage and the other humans aren't all as on-board with the human-integration program as they led everyone to believe.
Did I mention the sexy part? Yeah. Ellie and Helik have the sexy. Lots and lots of the sexy. Until their alone time threatens everything.
I'm digging these Levekk. Things are happening n their world and I'm very curious to see where the next story takes them.
I really enjoyed book 1 and I think book 2 was just as great if not better . Bk 2 introduces us to the inner political issues with the world more so than bk 1. The story flowed perfectly from beginning to end building more and more . I would love to see Where bk 3 and up takes us . I’m also curious about the military prisoner . Kinda want his story . Bk 3 says it will be about a certain character I personally disliked from bk 2 so kinda curious how the author plans to make me start to like her in bk 3. Over all a great story. Medium burn but very hot once you get to that point in the story . Well worth the wait . The H was in no way a irritating character and you can’t help but fall in love with the main guy and even a few other characters along the way . Very Well written , worded and descriptive book .
