Draconian Warriors #2

Alien Captain's Claimed Bride

Rate this book
Being the only female on a ship full of hot dragon warriors would be a dream come true for most women.

Stacy

If it weren’t for all the wounded pouring into her med-center, Stacy might enjoy the novelty of being surrounded by so many admiring dragon males. Even a heads up when a battle was brewing would help. However their taciturn captain left much to be desired when it came to communication.

Just when she was primed to give him a piece of her mind, he offered himself for scourging in punishment for his oversight. The poignant reminder of the abuse he’d suffered at the hands of his former queen melted away her anger. When her guard was down, she had to admit that big, scarred captain was attractive. Guarding her heart from him was going to be a nearly impossible task.

Meric

Draconian queens were deceitful, vicious and thought nothing of digging their claws into a warrior when least expected. Having been a breeder for ten long solars, Meric knew their ways well. Draconian females were hosts for parasites that fed on the pain of others. They’d lull a male into a false sense of security before unleashing horrible physical and emotional abuse.

Humans were unlike the queens he’d known. They seemed open, outgoing and almost innocent compared to Draconian queens. There was no arguing that they were clever and intelligent beings, but Meric harbored reservations about their true motivations.

He’d guard himself until he was sure they weren’t simply more skilled at deception. Especially the lovely healer who had insisted upon joining his crew. Meric knew that he spent far too much time thinking of the fair human female. It took all his discipline as a warrior not to follow her with his eyes and come running when she needed assistance. He refused to allow himself to become enamored with another cruel female, albeit it one wrapped in a beautiful package.

This one is weird. And it appears to be a first book in a series that is in the middle of a series? IDK but there is a shitton of info dropping (terrible info dropping) in the beginning and various other places.

Also, the whole "human women are all wonderful and kind and nice and loving and love all kids, etc" was super old super fast. Human women are NOT "all" anything. We are human - which means imperfect.

So the whole submissive male thing was old. And the "queen" this and "queen" that was also old.

But at the same time, it was interesting. I've never read a series with submissive men who don't want to be submissive.

I've also never read a series where the hero has been so terribly treated (he was abused by his former [dragon] queen) that he had real trauma. Not that "I've had my heart broken before" BS trauma but the read deal [emotional/physical/sexual] abuse and mistreatment. So I had to get to the end, of course.

Plus, the men are like seahorses: they carry the babies!

Captain Meric was happy to be in command again, patrolling the shipping lanes in their territory. He had come from a very brutal background, being a breeder for the parasite-driven female Draconians who thrived on inflicting physical and emotional pain. Queen Stonara had almost broken him. When she was overthrown, rather than killing her outright, the warriors had abandoned her on a primitive planet with no technology and no way to leave.

Meric’s ship picked up a fight between two ships. Investigating, they found a large, better-equipped Moltan vessel attacking a smaller Yuroba ship, an Intergalactic Council member authorized to travel in this area, containing families and cargo travelling to the colonies. Meric warned them to stand down, as their attack was a violation. But they refused, not recognizing the Council’s authority. The Moltans said the other ship had stolen human females from them, and a scan revealed the Yuroba had 100 human females and 200 Yuroba females. Meric asked the Moltans to transmit their permit and they would resolve the issue. Above all, they would prevent trafficking of females against their will. Considering females as property, the Moltans saw no difference. The females were bought to breed with their males and continue their line. But as they tried to make peace, two more Moltan ships were now approaching and preparing to attack. He had to take out the ship in front of him or he would have no chance against three of them at once.

Stacy was in the Healing Unit consoling a bored young Draconian who was tired of watching cells grow. He had wanted to be a Healer, so it was good to experience the less exciting moments he would have to encounter. The regenerating tissue and organ cells would be vital in an emergency. She always wanted to be ready to save lives. Phan invited her to dinner with his father and Captain Meric since he thought she would be a good Queen to match with his hero, the Captain. But just then sirens blared and they had to prepare for incoming wounded.

With brilliant strategy, Meric guided his crew into a successful attack. When the last remaining Moltan ship suddenly burst into speed that should not have been possible, Meric recalled the cruel Queen Mother having the only ship capable – but she was far away on a primitive planet. Were they all in danger? Had she found a wormhole or some other means to come back and wreak havoc in their sector?

This is another good story by this author. It started slowly, but the battle scenes stepped up the pace. Knowing the cruelty of the Draconian Queens, the reader can understand the anxiety of not knowing if the Queen Mother was once again a threat. The tension keeps the reader involved with the story line. We also get to see whether Meric will ever be willing to risk himself with involvement with a female – as their Healer is very aware of him and Phan is more than eager to play matchmaker!

Simplistic with an annoying heroine and some face palming human female superiority weirdness that is very ethnocentric

Way better than expected

The title, blurb and cover make it seem like this is going to be a cheesy, tropey, sci-fi, but it was a really good romance. Full characterization and a fulfilling storyline. Didn’t know it was a second in series, but that didn’t negatively affect the story at all. It’s mostly a stand-alone with some throwbacks to another book. Recommend to SFR fans.

Not a repeat of previous story, but does contain an overall arc from the previous story with HOT, HOT alien warriors

Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, minimal semi-detailed intimate scenes and violence.

While this could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend it be read in order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers.

This is the story of Meric, Captain on the Raspian war ship, and Stacy, a human pediatric physician. Meric is a former breeder for one of the elder Draconian queens. He is convinced that the human queens are as devious and malicious as their Draconian counterparts.

Stacy has had lots of opportunities to look for a mate since being rescued by the Draconians, but she finds herself attracted to only one ... Meric ... and he wants nothing to do with her or any other female.

What will happen when they are actively chasing another ship that could effectively end life as they know it in new universe? What if Stacy finds out what Meric is hiding on their ship?

I have seen multiple reviews that said this story was basically a repeat of the first story in the series, but I didn’t find that to be true.

I won’t provide too much information, as I don’t want to accidentally provide any spoilers, but the overall arc continues and picks up where the first one ended. The humans and Draconians are working to set up their new home world. Meric is responsible for patrolling part of the dark area and Stacy is the onboard healer.

It does end in a HFN / HEA for the couple, with no cheating. I gave it 4 stars because of the grammatical errors, primarily repeated words and / or incorrect wording. Despite that, I was able to easily determine the author’s intent.

If you are looking for a series of protective aliens, that treat their women like literal queens, then I highly recommend this story and series.

Great plot, cardboard characters

Juno Wells has written some of my favorite alien SF romance, but this book isn't one of them. The plot is classic Juno Wells: spicy romance between hunky alien heroes and Earth women who rock their worlds, with a little action, a little danger, and just a smidgeon of angst. This time around, however, the characters are flat and lacking in personality. Can't see what's so attractive about either one, other than looks, and I certainly didn't feel the chemistry. Worse, I think the editing was very poor, and made for many disruptive pauses in the story. Hope her next book is mo bettah.

It was a pleasant read tbh, i enjoyed it, i found the way it was written a bit strange though. The writing and alllll the conversations between everyone (EVERYONE) were so formal it was a bit jarring. The hero and heroine were so formal with each other it was at time like they were robots lol. I enjoyed reading this, loved the concept of the damaged hero and his history/world, just the writing and relationship wasnt as natural or relaxed as you would expect. But i liked the plot/action and the bit of romance there was.

The story line was interesting. The main characters were likable. The universe-building was pretty good. The editing was so bad it interfered with the story. There were a lot of missing words (particularly "not"), to the point that you'd reread a paragraph over and over trying to determine what exactly the author meant as the first half would be negative and the second half would be positive... on the same issue. If you can handle major editing problems, it's an otherwise good book.

There were several errors (missing words, incorrect pronouns, wrong tense) that could have been fixed with another pass by the editor. Also, I felt removed from the story because it was written in third person, even though I have enjoyed other books written in this perspective. Still, the story is compelling enough that I want to read more in this world. I’ve already read a bit from the next book, and it already reads more smoothly in the first person.

This was unexpected. Reversed gender roles, a race where males can give birth, completely matriarchal society. There is an actual plot! People talk, make intelligent decisions, motivations of the characters actually make sense. If you're into Mars-needs-women trope but cannot abide alphahole/rapey/toxically masculine heroes then Juno Wells seems to be one of the authors to check out.

Good Read

I enjoyed learning more about Stacy after she was freed from captivity in book one. Now a healer on the Raspian and the only female on board, she is attracted to the captain Meric. The story includes alien space battles, family secrets, and sex. Throw in a little humor and you have a really good book to read....enjoy.....

Proofreading errors galore !!

I thought this book was interesting , the story dramatic , the plot different. I enjoyed it immensely except for 1 glaring problem . There are wicked bad editing / proofreading errors on pretty much every page which detracts from the flow of the story . Other than that ...it was really good !

Finding out more about the Draconian Warriors past history was fascinating. I loved it. Finding out what happened on Earth to made most of the men die off, and now woman are going into space to become brides for various aliens broke my heart. But, at least there is hope still. The Raspian is the ship that had once had a Draconian Queen Stonara on it. But, the parasite that lived in the Queens did like they always did- destroy. I liked how they dealt with her. Meric is in command of the ship now and I kind of think he has a few leftover emotional and mental problems as do most Draconian males because of the Queens. There is no queen on the Raspian, except for the human doctor, Stacy. They found a Yuroba ship under attack from Moltan ships and saw that on the Yuroba, there were a 100 female humans. All females to the Draconians are honored with the title of queen. Security officer Tabor is Meric’s closest friend. Calen (who’ve we met in book 1) is from a unique bloodline with rare gifts. The space battles in this book are a bit emotional and awesomely written. I love them. Meric is one tough cookie. Phan is one of the young Draconians who has been assigned to Stacy to learn how to be a medic. Learning about their training as teens was waaay cool. I loved Phan. Slowly but surely, Stacy argues with Meric and the old way of thinking - that all warriors are expendable. She was very inspirational to me as well as to other characters in the book. We get to meet Tabor and Meric’s families. I giggled, laughed, and had put the AC on during the first space battle because I got so into the book I was starting to sweat. lol. Then things went crazy and I freaked a bit. Total mayhem and many reveals and revelations later, Meric and Stacy begin to get closer together. I also want there to be plushies made of the little kids of Meric. lol. They sound so cute and I want to cuddle them. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Meric, the male alien (Draconian) lead, is captain of his spaceship and commander of his warriors. He was a breeder male under the abusive leadership of the female of his own kind and he’s very closed to human females, even though he’s been assured they’re nothing like the females he’s used to.

Stacy, the female lead, is a paediatrician acting as a ship’s medic because there aren’t that many babies around Draconians yet. Whilst attracted to Meric, she’s more than a little discouraged when he advises that his males have been taught to accept female overtures regardless of their actual interest. Given Stacy wants a reciprocal relationship, she withdraws.

Finding a different alien spaceship attacking a transport carrying precious human females, the Draconians attack and are mortified, once the enemy is subdued, to find that the parasites that infected Draconian females may have made their way to this part of space. Now they have a real mission to undertake whilst Meric works to convince Stacy that he does actually reciprocate her interest…

This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, alien/human, spaceship captain/medic, sci fi romance. I applauded Stacy’s determination to find a genuine reciprocated emotion romance. I enjoyed that she was professional and able to continue in her role regardless of her personal feelings. I enjoyed Meric’s dawning awareness that he needed to act if he actually wanted a relationship. I enjoyed the supportive and integrated secondary characters, especially Meric’s sons. I enjoyed the steamy intimate scenes. I chuckled at the banter and cultural miscommunications.

These two kept tugging at my heartstrings, especially the first half. Meric has had such a hard past with the Draconian queens that he has a really hard time trusting that the human women aren’t like that. But I loved how the males around him were always trying to get him to open his eyes and actually see how they were, especially Stacy. It may have taken some time to get there but when he finally accepts the truth, his courting is very precious.
Stacy is wonderful. And I totally get where her insecurities came from. After being rebuffed by Meric and finding it really hard to know if the males are actually interested or just being polite, she just focuses on her job. She’s blunt and not always diplomatic but she cares. I love seeing how she grew confident as she was put in charge of more things.
These two were fantastic together. It very much is a slow burn for them and their spicy scenes are few but they are great and a wonderful addition to this series. Can’t wait to continue and see where this adventure takes me.
I did receive an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.

Excellent!

Meric is the captain of their ship, The Raspian. He was a breeder for a cruel Queen and has the scars, both mentally and physically to prove it . He doesn’t trust the human queens and refuses to let them anywhere near his Scion, or youngling.

Stacy Lionheart is a pediatric neurosurgeon. Since there are no children around she voluntarily took the job as the Healer on the Raspian. She and Meric have been dancing around their attraction to each other for months. Meric just can’t let go of the past.

When they come across a ship being attacked for their cargo, human females, they jump in to rescue them. Suddenly, Maric and Stacy have no choice but to pull together or loose everything!

Fast paced, full of emotion, and one exceedingly stubborn male!.

Adapting can be hard to do

Stacy is the only woman on a ship full of Alien warriors. Coming to understand their culture, and just how differently they view women than her native culture is eye-opening, and leads to a series of learning moments.

Metic has had experience with women, and every experience was horrific... somehow, his friends, family, and the Universe, will have to remind him that each individual is unique for a reason.

I was gifted with a copy of this book, and chose to post a review.

I enjoy not only the protective nature of the men, but the strength of the women as they stand up for those they care about and work to make life better. These characters focus on their community, and others, and while Stacy personified that as a doctor, the caring leader aspect is a hallmark of this series.

Hurt and gun shy male.

Interesting story of a Trauma impacted Drac. And how his friends and family talk him into approaching his “Queen”. Loved the kids. Still a little confused over the he carries kids. And how they can have kids.

Confused about something. The hair! The other books have them on warriors on cover but this book tells us it is only one branch that has it. The other book mentioned that none of the Draconians have any.
Other is the blob alien. No way the other two ruling Queens would have not spread word about what it is, how to kill it.
Last the sweeping of ships, after finding issue on one, they would have swept everyone on all.
After finding blob they should order mandatory medical clearance of all females in the coalition.

Another great book in the series. This couple was one the best, at least at the beginning, but later it became a bit inconsistent.

Although the main idea and story is great, Throughout this series I have the problem that something is always off about romance. There is no smooth progression of them becoming a couple, or they act out of character. Here similar happened where the heroine could at one point so easy accept hero loved her, while being rejected by him and males all her life. Also when they were intimate, there was no insecurity on her part. Not to mention, he was before her for years with Draconian queen, and also with another 'human female' rejecting her just because he didn't like her voice. How she was different and a love of his life was difficult to tell...

Human Stacy was the medic on a ship full of Draconian Warriors on a ship commanded by taciturn captain Meric who had been badly abused by the Draconian Quen who was driven by her onboard parasite. Meric was polite but that was all as he was hesitant to draw any conclusion on the behaviour of any human queen. Both Stacy and Meric appreciate each other from afar as it is going to take time for real trust to be built especially for Meric - can he learn to trust her with his deepest secrets?

I enjoyed this story and it was great to see the extent to which he would go to protect his family. This story gave quite a few new details to the entire series and that seemed a little late in the series to give some more basic level information. Easy to read and understand.

Alien Captains Claimed Bride

Not a bad storyline. But, the book is almost unreadable due to the errors. This story features Stacy and Meric. We met Stacy in the first book. She’s a pediatrician who signed up to be a bride but their spaceship was boarded and the women were taken prisoner. After being rescued by the Draconians she meets Meric who is the captain of the spaceship she is on as the chief medical officer. She falls for him quickly but, he isn’t interested having had to perform as a breeder for an evil “queen” who mistreated him. The story comes to a good end. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers.

Great continuation to the series. I enjoyed learning more about Stacy after she was free from captivity. I also like seeing reversed gender roles, a alien race where the males can give birth. If only that could happen in real life. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read with plenty of action, intrigue, and of course steamy romance to keep you hooked from beginning to end. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

OK Sci-fi Alien Romance

This is an OK sci-fi alien romance. I didn't like it as much as the other in this series that I read (Alien Warrior's Captive Mate). This one seemed a bit disjointed, jumping around in time illogically, and also seemed a bit drawn out. The relationship between the H/h also took a long time to develop, as it took him a long time to decide he wanted her. He was reluctant because of past abuse by a Draconian queen, but his reluctance just seemed to last too long.

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I haven't read much of this series- though I've read many other of Miranda Martin's books, but I'm really loving these Draconian males. I love the balance of dominant and submissive in them- as a part of their culture. They are sweet and protective and treat females like queens- only their own queens have taken advantage of, scarred, and abused them. This book was an adventure. I loved both Meric and Stacy. He's reluctant to trust another queen- no matter how drawn to Stacy he is. 5 stars.

I wanted to love this book but thought it was just an okay read

So I really wanted to love this story, but it fell a little flat there was just something missing I didn't feel the chemistry or connection between the H/h like I normally do. I also found the editing errors went a long way in making the entire story feel disjointed. I like the premise well enough to try another in the series, but this was not
My favorite.

Ready to trust

Let's just say baby daddy takes to do did this book and I'll love it Meric is Stacey are not your ideal couple but they make it work. Having a mate like MericI think women of today would enjoy him thoroughly. I

Is this book you learn about the mother of all creatures and it's not what they think.

This book had enough of a story line to keep the reader interested and the characters refreshing.

Draconian Queens?!?!

The Draconian Warriors will never be truly free as long as there are Draconian Queens being controlled by Symbionts. There will be the fear that Queens will come looking for them.
The Warriors face another challenge to happy ever after though. They were so mistreated by their own queens that they don't dare trust the human women they have rescued. Will they ever be able to let their guard down enough to see with their hearts??

It was just Ok.
I don't know what is the problem with this book 😑!? The story is interesting but the chemistry between the hero and the heroine is almost zero. I think this is the problem with all the other J.W's books.
The romantic side is very weak. Maybe the writer should be brave when she deals with romantic situations. 😮

Can be read as a stand-alone

Realised this was part 9f a series too late. Missed some important world building, but writing and story had enough information so I wasn't lost. Nature of males and associated relationship difficulties this caused not my favourite so I won't bother with other books in the series.
