I read this book for a blog tour, thank you to the blog tour organiser and the author for inviting me to take part in this tour and for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book was really out of my comfort zone, but as soon as I started it, it felt like a very comforting read, I was quickly immersed and very surprised by how much I liked it throughout.
This book is set in Bloomsdale, a little village in Yorkshire where we follow Bea Winters, a 25-year-old woman who has just left her life and job in Birmingham because she was no longer happy and wanted to start over. As soon as she arrives in this little town, some strange things happen and she has to grapple with finding a place to live, her gorgeous boss, her great new job and the mysterious Eddie Richards, one of her colleagues.
I quickly connected to Bea and found that she was very believable. I instantly liked her and found her to be very believable, strong-willed with a strong head on her shoulders and a lot more mature than her age would imply. I loved reading about her and the plans she made with Eddie for the Sophie, the narrow boat she will live on. I didn't always like Scott, in fact, at times I hated him, and although he justifies himself at the end, I didn't find this bit very believable and I ended up not really liking him. However, I adored Eddie from start to finish and I was rooting for him and Bea the whole way.
Overall, this was such a lovely story, it really is a great contemporary romance with a little special twist that will surely surprise you as much as it did me. I wasn't bored at all, I just kept turning the pages because the writing gripped me and was very engaging. It was such an enjoyable reading experience and I would highly recommend, it was really comforting and I had a range of feelings throughout! I gave this 4.5 stars because it was just lacking the spark I need to rate a book 5 stars, and some things just felt a bit too convenient or rushed for my liking, but it was definitely a great read.
