Their young love ignited rapidly but diminished just as fast. A heart wrenching second chance romance that will make you believe that everything happens for a reason.
A mistake that Gabriel Gavinwood thought he took care of comes knocking him on his ass 18 years later. The way he's looking at it now though doesn't seem to be a mistake...it seems like a blessing, like the raft that could pull him out of the deep waters that have been dragging him down.
Charlotte Daniels was hit with a dose of reality at 18 and has had to be a strong, independent woman ever since. When life throws her a curve ball and she runs into the boy who destroyed her, literally, will she now give into the man and the passion that once consumed them?
Can they move on from their toxic past and build a future together? Are they right when they say time heals all wounds?
I tried, I really did. I even got past the 30% mark that I usually try to get past before calling it quits on a book! I was in the mood for some angsty-secret-baby-daddy drama, but I just couldn't continue.
Here are the main reasons, and I'll put a spoiler tag for those that don't want to see it. I apologize if they seem too ranty...
Those are the main reasons for this going on my dnf shelf. I know that some of my GR friends seemed to really enjoy this, so it very well could just be a me thing where I'm being too picky...
Curveball is so addicting! I could not put this one down until the very last page, and I’m excited to dive right into book 2. Charlotte’s personally is sweet and caring, yet she has the determination and strength that any woman can aspire to have.
This second chance romance was so good. The emotions in this book were so powerful it hit me so hard and I could feel my heart cry for Charlotte. I could feel the pain in this book so much I needed to take breaks in this book because it was so sad for me. I love when a book can effect be that much, but holy crap there were times I thought I wouldn't survive this book. It isn't that there happen all these tragic things it is just that their pain is that big and that this author can write it so it feels like it is you that have lost the love of your life!
Charlotte is this powerful woman who is raising her 18 years old twins by her self. But she was also still in love with their father Gabriel. And it is though to avoid seeing everything he does when he is a famous baseball player and is always in the gossip magazines for the next new thing he did. So how do you get over the love of your life when you hear and see all about his life all the time and you are raising his kids that looks just like him?
Gabriel is the hero you just want to hate! I was rooting for him and I could feel he had a big heart under all that bullshit but for the love of god, every time he should step up and show Charlotte, Hey I love you and have your back what did he do? Yes, you guessed it he failed. I wanted to scream a little at him because I could see he was a changed man! He really wanted this. But he needed to get his head out of his ass.
So do you need a heavy, second chance romance, with some single parent, sports romance over it too well honey this is your book.

Nicole Rodrigues is a new author to me - and a fairly new author in general. This appears to be her third book but the first in the Double Play series. But never fear - this novel is completely standalone and has no annoying cliffhangers.
This story is written in first person, present tense - which not being my go-to type of novel, normally takes me a while to get into. Not so with this book - it took about 1 paragraph and I was hooked. Those pages practically turned themselves and at a fast rate, to boot.
We get the story from both Charlotte and Gabriel’s points of view - which really gives us a rounded picture of what the pair are thinking and feeling. However, we only get Charlotte’s point of view for the first wee while and when it came time to swap into Gabe’s head - I didn’t want to go. It says a lot that after such a short while I was 100% behind Charlotte and didn’t want to hear anything about that good-for-nothing former ball player!! Even though I softened my stance towards Gabe as the story moved on, I was still 100% team Charlotte. She was sassy but sweet - peeved at Gabe but still honest about her feelings towards him - good and bad. I loved her Southern charm and the language she used - all y’alls and drawls. But the fact that she was the same age as me yet had 18 year old children blew my mind. I am way too immature to be having grown-up children!
Gabe was a little bit more of an enigma to me. As a boy he was a cutie and as insecure as any other teenage boy; we didn’t really get a sense of his character until he was a grown man. And as a man he was a little bit alpha, a little bit possessive and a lot confused about his feelings and what he should be doing about them. At times he annoyed and frustrated me - and, like Charlotte, I really didn’t want to forgive him at the beginning. But the handsome rascal won me over and I couldn’t help but fall for his persistent charms - particularly in his dedication to Charlie and doing right by her and the twins.
The story was fast paced and I found myself thinking about it and the characters even when I’d put the book down. I wanted to know what happened and I felt involved with the story and the romance. It was never a chore to get back to reading and I just gobbled this book up.
The sexy scenes were on point and just dirty enough to get my pulse racing. Loved how Charlotte was a Southern belle in the streets and a dirty wee minx in the sheets. And of course, the alpha Gabe just had to be an insatiable beast when it came to his woman. Mmm hmm!
There were a few too many typos and grammatical mistakes to not make mention of but I honestly do think it’s down to new author excitement. Try not to let them blight what is an excellent piece of story telling.
While I did say at the beginning that there were no cliffhangers - we are shamelessly teased about what I’m assuming will be the next book in the series (hopefully) featuring Savannah and Jackson. Man, I cannot wait to read that one and uncover all their secrets.
If you love a second-chance romance or want to read about an alpha male working hard to win back his girl - then I would recommend this romance to you. It’s sexy, sassy and just a little bit dirty - great fun to read. Ms. Rodrigues has a new fan in me. 4 stars.
I was a bit hesitant starting on this book and she’s a new author to be but because I’ve already been through a lot and they were just not clicking with me not only that I was just going through books like I couldn’t grasp onto characters, well Curveball definitely hit it on the mark.
This book is surprisingly so amazing that I love the characters. Charlotte and Gabriel were young lovers and of course as they always do promise each other the HEA but unfortunately Gabriel became somewhat of an a$$ that I instantly felt like kicking him in the junk.
But, seriously if he never left, Charlotte who is the mother to 18yo twins just made me adore the characters and how well written this author brought each to life. We meet Charlotte and Gabriel when they were young to young teens and then a possible mishap and that’s where all the drama escalated from and bam he’s outta there. Now fast forward I sometimes felt that Gabriel came across as a little selfish.
However, this book is a them two and their slow burn insta lust and love to hot and heavy, but it also brings you tears, laughter and teen pregnancy but it’s also about learning and growing and support and sacrifices.
I received an arc by the author for an honest review
Charlotte and Gabriel know each other since they were babies. They grew up together, became lovers later on. Gabriel wants to become a professional baseball player, and doesn’t want to let get anything in the way. 18 years later they meet again , unexpectedly. He’s in for a surprise...
I don’t want to spoil anything, so you have to read this book by yourself 😌
It’s a well written story, has a great flow in it. This was my first book by this author, but not my last 😉
Thank you for giving me the chance to get to know your work!
I was given an arc for an honest review and I must say if you love hot sweet steamy second chance romances well this is the book for you. Gabriel is an asshole right from the start. Charline is adorable kind independent women. Preorder add to your TBR list..
This is a second chance romance. (Some of my favorites) also this is a 'new to me' author & book. I am all for sports romance too. Not sure where to begin without wanting to spoiler alert the entire book before it even comes out! There is something said about a young romance. This one is written tastefully, you really feel the young and crazy love.
Charlotte & Gabriel started their love off young, crazy for one another. Dreams to be fulfilled, not looking much ahead but just what's right there for grabs. When Charlotte learns the kind of boy Gabriel is, she is left with only one choice. Being just a girl herself, she didn't know what she was doing herself, all she knew was that the right choice needed to be made. Gabe already altered their universe already anyways.
You forward all that to EIGHTEEN years! When she see's her first and only love again, nothing changed...her body still betrayed her even if her mind was trying to pick the logical way. Rekindling their love won't be that easy, there is many years and many memories between them,
Life throws them both a Curveball!
This is a shorter story, about 205 pages, so the read was quick for me, but very much enjoyable. I liked the story line, not traditional. A lot of emotion from both ends. Some action and the suspense, hehe was killing me at the end, i needed to know right then. I do kind of wish she made his gravel a bit more, but in their circumstances and the length of the story, i understand why it is the way it is. Gabriel is a strong, tall and sexy baseball hero and Charlotte is a sassy, spunky, know what she wants heroine. There is quiet the group of people and banter in there also, really fun to go back and forth.
I am looking forward to more and hopes of a Book #2!
I am rating this book a 5 star because of multiple reasons, one being that it' the genre i like to read, the author is new to me and it's a second chance sports romance.
Ummm. I wanted to love this, I really did. But it just didn’t work for me.
Second chance romance is a tough trope for me... the couple has to overcome the reason that they broke up in the first place. And it has to have enough... time? (Ugh. I can’t think of how to say it!) It has to have enough dialogue to make me feel like if I were the heroine, I would be able to get past it and move on... and I didn’t feel that in this book.
Also, the prologue was written when they are 14-16 years old but it was written with language that didn’t reflect their age. And sometimes during the book when they’re older, I thought that they were acting a little immature. So it just didn’t match up to me.
At 50% I hated both main characters. Now I don’t have to like characters to like a book, however in a romance I have to want them to find happiness and in this case I just didn’t.
Keeping a child a secret from its father for 18 years is totally unacceptable. And this case she also kept them from their other family members, despite having been very close with them before this. There were some signs that there was remorse so I hung on until it came out. And then the couple just start to behave like hormonal idiots.
The writing was stilted and I like myself so I am done.
Love the banter, love the drama, love the emotion. This story kept me turning the pages & dying to see what would happen next. I enjoyed watching how Gabriel & Charlotte overcame their obstacles & found their way back to each other.
A second chance romance that proves that mistakes can become blessings and timing is everything.
Charlotte and Gabriel have known each other since birth, then became boyfriend and girlfriend in high school, exploring what it meant to be in a relationship. But, mistakes were made, things were said, and life went on...apart. A whole lifetime later, they’re back in each other’s lives through a twist of fate. Their intense attraction for each other is still there, but after so many years of heartache, is it possible to forgive and put it all behind them?
A second chance romance that has some sizzling scenes.
This is a new to me author and I enjoyed the storyline and the fast paced drama. I liked Charlotte and felt that she held her own on certain occasions but when it came to Gabe she was helpless to her love for him. Savannah was a great character and I look forward to reading about her in the second book.
*** I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
Honestly not sure where to start with this book! I am in awe of it! I absolutely loved reading this book and didn’t want it to end. I’m am so thankful that Nicole gave me a chance to read it!
This book was so beautifully written and got me from the first chapter! The story is so sweet but yet heartbreaking at the same time! It definitely had me smiling all the way through! The feelings and emotions I had whilst reading this book was ridiculous, I nearly had a tear in my eye at one point!
It was such a lovely second chance romance book and if you like these types of books it is a must read! This Author is new and definitely one to keep an eye on! I can’t recommend it enough!
P.s I really hope the next book will be about the sister 😏
Also check out Nicole’s other 2 books ‘Always in your corner’ and ‘Pinky promise’ you will not be disappointed
Nicole is such a great writer! She really knows how to get you sucked into the story and never want to put it down. That is what happened yet again with this book. I was hooked after just one chapter!! This story is such a sweet, beautiful, yet heartbreaking story. But don’t worry it ends with a warming love story between two great lovers!
“Curveball” by Nicole Rodrigues is a fun and sexy jock/second-chance romance mashup. Gabriel and Charlotte will take you on an emotional ride through the ups and downs of their lifelong friendship and romance. They will leave you believing that it is never too late for a second chance at love. Make “Curveball” your next read!
Curveball was the sweetest thing ever! I don't even know what else to say. It held my attention from the very beginning and didn't let go. I will definitely be reading more Nicole Rodrigues books! 💜
I absolutely enjoyed this sexy steamy second chance read!!! Thank you Nicole for contacting me and sharing this ARC. It was amazing. I was totally sucked in from the beginning. I love how the book tells the story from present to past in between the read. The characters are well written!
Charlotte is a strong young independent individual who stops at nothing from a young age and instantly becomes an adult overnight. While Gabriel is a total selfish ass and pays the price throughout his career. This has a great H.E. - Don't want to add any spoilers 😉.
If your looking for a second chance romance with steamy scenes this book will not disappoint!
The amazing Nicole Rodrigues has become one of my favorite authors. Curveball was so good that I read it in one sitting. I did lose some sleep because I stayed up late finishing this one, but it was totally worth it.
Nicole has this great way of captivating you within the first few pages. When you start a book by this talented author, be prepared to become addicted. I wish her books, in particular Curveball, were turned into shows or movies. They have the right amount of drama and passion and she really makes you work for that HEA!
I absolutely loved Gabriel and Charlotte. The way she introduced these characters was perfect. She started off giving us a picture of them in high school. I loved this because we really get to see them grow and evolve throughout the book.
Gabriel and Charlotte were best friends who fell in love. When a huge change occurs in their relationship, they part ways. Turn the page and 18 years later, they are back in each other’s lives. There are some rough patches along the way, but makes the read that much more entertaining.
I can’t wait for y’all to read this one and fall in love with not only the characters but the author!
Rating: I give Curveball 5 stars. It was captivating, romantic, emotional, and left me satisfied as a reader! Every time I read a book by Nicole Rodrigues I fall more in love with her writing. I expect greater things from her and can’t wait to read more of her work!
This second chance romance with a clear baseball theme had me hooked pretty quickly. It was charming, adorably southern and had some good twists.
Charlotte Daniels and Gabriel Gavinwood, such a lovable couple. They start out as high school sweethearts with no cares or worries, aside from protective parents and a rock-solid moral fiber. But that fiber would soon be tested and literally tear them apart as Gabe is drafted into pro-baseball and Charlotte’s life is changed forever… And as fate would have it, they are reunited close to twenty years after their love was ripped apart by a big, life-changing curveball.
Sassy yet sweet Charlotte has carried this dual secret with her all these years, and hot-headed Gabe finds out about it with earth-shattering clarity. Once reunited, the waters are heavily tested as both Gabe and Charlotte rekindle the hot burning flame between them all while trying to bring their family together.
I don’t wanna give away spoilers, so I won’t tell you any more. But believe me when I say this book is funny, heartfelt, dramatic and hot in so many ways. You’ll love the Gavinwoods and Daniels as they pull you into their tale of first love, heartbreak and a second chance to make the past right. I loved this tale and can’t wait until book two comes out, so I can see where Savannah and Jackson are headed.
~REVIEW🖋~ The Quick and Dirty: Second-chance baseball romance with a strong female lead and alpha male love interest.
Charlie and Gabe are childhood best friends and high school sweethearts. They have bright futures ahead of them: a full-ride softball scholarship and second round baseball draft pick... until Charlie gets pregnant.
Despite how sure they were of their relationship, it falls apart, leaving each of them scarred and broken. Eighteen years later, fate brings their paths back together. Secrets are revealed, knowledge bombs are dropped and everything that Charlie and Gabe thought they knew is being seen through a new lens. Will they be able to overcome their past to rekindle the flame that never really died or will the secrets kept for the last 18 years be what puts an end to them for good.
Super cute sports romance that was a quick read and left me excited for Savannah's story (book 2). The rekindling part of the relationship felt a smidge rushed (i.e. Charlie was quick to forgive) but that could just be me... I'd want a hell of a lot more groveling. 🤷🏻♀️ Loved the small town, Southern feel though. I've been reading a lot of urban stuff lately so it was a nice change. And you know I love me some "y'all" usage! 💖
Overall: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Steam: 3/5 🔥🔥🔥 Feels: 💖☺️😟😩🤨🥰

Curveball by Nicole Rodrigues Double Play Series #1
I loved this book. It’s a sports romance/second chance romance all in one. This is only Nicole’s third book, and she is just getting better and better! It really well written and I love that we get to see things from both characters point of view.
Gabriel is a little bit bad mixed with a whole lot of sexy. At eighteen he feels like he has his whole life in front of him, and being picked to go to houston is a big thing for him and his career. But one little slip up could have changed that ,but Gabriel and Charlotte fix the problem and they can go about their live the way they want to. Well maybe one of them can. Charlotte is the church going good girl whose in love with Gabriel and see herself being with him forever, but one little problem changes that, and leave Charlotte alone and about to face the biggest challenge of her life.
This is a great book, I loved reading it and can’t wait to find out what happens with Savannah and Jackson in Going Going Goner!
So, how do you write a review for such a beautiful & heartbreaking book & make it justice? Because that's my problem right now.
I feel like there are no words good enough to describe how much I loved reading CURVEBALL, & I have to thank Nicole Rodrigues for letting me be one of the lucky ones to read an ARC of this awesome book.
Seriously, people, I can't recommend this book enough. It has all the feelings & at the end you'll have a smile on your face-& if you are like me, there'll also be a few tears in your eyes.
Personally I'm not fond of second chance romances, but CURVEBALL is a beautiful exception to that rule!!! 😉
I Voluntarily Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book!!!
Nicole did a great job at telling a beautiful second chance love story. I do like that for the most in part it was straight to the point and there wasn't any fluff. This story was about a girl who loves a boy so much that she is willing to give him up in order for him to have his dream. Even if her life becomes complicated and her dream has to be put on hold. This story is really about sacrifice, love and intense compassion. It was written nicely and only had minor grammar and spelling issues.
Charlotte "Charlie" Daniels has put her dream on hold to be a supermom. She gave up her dreams to create a whole entirely different dream that includes twins. These two individuals complete her in a totally different way. However, as the twins begin to ascend into adulthood and start their own dreams, life and her past throw a wrench in the mix. Charlie is finally able to work in her dream field of sports management and now everything is going to change with the only person that lit the fire to her match. Only this time, she doesn't intend to get burned. Sometimes life and the powers that be create their own Sparks and turn them into a more intense flame than she could have ever imagined.
Gabriel Gavinwood fled his small town to follow his dream of baseball. Only thing is. His dream included Charlie Daniels and when that blew up in his face he did everything he could to numb the pain and try to forget. Love is powerful and after 18 years of never seeing or feeling Charlie can't erase the amount of emotion that has always been there and will never go away. So when he meets his new rookie as the coach for Houston, his life becomes a whole new version of what ifs and why's. Now his life is about to become something that he couldn't predict and yet maybe just maybe it will be the best thing to ever happen to him.
This is the first book I have read by this author and all in all she did a good job. It was a little YA for me even with the heated moments. Other than that it was a great story about Second Chances and redemption.
4 STARS

It was a little more fast paced than what I'm used to reading but this was a really great book. The story of a lost love, rediscoverd after 18 years, Can Charlotte & Gabriel make amends for years gone by....
I’m total sucker for a second chance romance! I’d also never read anything by this author before, and I’ll definitely be checking out more from her. This story proves that mistakes can become blessings and timing is everything.
