He was the last thing she thought she needed, but she was everything he wanted.

Abused and alone, Kitty had no idea how far she’d have to flee after she finally got the courage to run. She never would have guessed she’d end up halfway around the world, or in the home — much less the arms — of dominant Australian whip-master, Noah Carver.

He knows she’s damaged, that she needs safety and time to heal, but the way her submission calls to him has Noah thinking more about what could be between them than her history.

The only question now is what she fears standing up to her abusive ex-dom, or staying with a man she’s afraid to love?

From the first page, this book drew me in. Maren Smith has written a book that is intense, dramatic and heart wrenching. Kitty has escaped Ethan, her abusive ex, and is now with Noah, who we met briefly in another Black Light story. He takes her to his home and slowly starts to try and heal her damaged heart. And man, is it damaged. This story made me laugh, cry, get pissed off and get my hopes up for Kitty to realize just how wonderful she really is. Hated Ethan with a passion and fell in love with Noah. Will Noah be able to help Kitty or is she forever stuck in the past with her demons? Great story!

First I want to say that I have not read the previous books and I think I may have missed a few things but I caught on fairly quickly and I was blown away! I mean the BDSM world is so fascinating to begin with. Being submissive is not something I would do so I would be Dom because I am a little bossy and I like it how I like.

Kitty poor Kitty my heart went out to her because she got an ahole of a Dom and he treated her like shizz. She is a damaged soul because of this man and she is afraid to be with him and so she decides to run and run she did. She ran half way across the world and that is when she meets a new Dom Noah.

I loved Noah right from the start because he was not abusive but loving and caring and thought about her feelings first. But she is damaged and is scared to let Noah in. But over time Noah proves to her that he will not hurt her and he will always protect her. But can Kitty let him in? Can she be his perfect submissive?

I really liked the storyline and the characters here. The abuse Kitty suffered at the hands of Ethen will tear your heart out. And Noah's struggle to figure out how best to help her is wonderful to see. While I think it unrealistic to take someone who's gone through that kind of abuse almost immediately into a new relationship with no counseling, etc., it works. Kitty needs to be submissive to someone. Noah is there and he helps her see that submission is part of who she is.

I had some issues with the editing. There were a number of awkward sentences and such that should have been caught during the editing. On the other hand, there was some gorgeous imagery, too.

I love the Black Light books for so many reasons. I mean, not only are you getting some screaming hot sex, you are also getting a great storyline. You are also getting the chance to read a whole lot of authors that are all writing in the same world. Maren Smith is the latest entry into that world. She wrote a story in the Roulette Redux anthology, and this book comes out of that story.

While this story does come out of the story that Maren Smith wrote for that set, it's not the same main couple as out of that story, even though Hadlee and Gareth show up. In that story, Hadlee signed up for Roulette and was matched with Noah, an Aussie who is a whip master. However, she eventually ended up with Gareth. But during that time, her former "dom", the abusive Ethan, was there with the rest of his Menagerie.

Kitty was one of Ethan's Menagerie. On the way home from the V-Day event, she realized that he was going to take Hadlee's escape out on her, and that's what he did. That caused her to run too, in the middle of winter, naked, and beaten. Gareth and Hadlee rescued her, and eventually sent her on to Noah so that she could be safe.

Poor Kitty. Ethan was a total dillhole and was just terrible to her. I mean, daaaang. It's no wonder that she had so many issues. I felt sorry for Noah too. I mean, he had no clue what to do with Kitty, and that's a lot of issues for him to all of a sudden have to figure out. He handled it well, but it had to still suck at first. I thought that the two of them together were fantastic, and once Noah started learning more about Kitty, he was able to help her so much more.

This book was truly intense. I was absolutely in Camp Noah and Kitty. I disliked Ethen in Shameless, and the dislike only grew in Fearless. He was brutal.

There were a couple of surprises. One being Kitty being, well "Kitty". I was so not expecting that one. Admittedly, I don't get the whole kitty thing, but whatever floats your boat and makes you happy as a consenting adult.

The Noah/Ethen scene was priceless. I did wonder about the fallout from that incident. I also enjoyed the Kitty/Ethen airport scene. Maybe not the very beginning, but definitely toward the end.

Noah, who was pretty entertaining in Shameless, was so patient and understanding with Kitty. His compassion was awesome. He way the book was written made me wonder if living in Australia, a place completely foreign to Kitty, had as much to do with starting her down the path to healing as Noah did.

A little different from the other Black Light books in the series. An intense, intriguing romance with well written characters. I can only speak for myself, but this book kept me engaged from the first page to the last.

I would like to see how Noah and Kitty's relationship progresses.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.

I just have to say there are major trigger warnings for the beginning of the book. It does contain intense pet play and really strong detailed extreme abuse. It’s heart breaking and just brutal and hard to read but once you get through it it’s...a beautiful story of aftercare and healing. This isn’t like any of the other books by the author. It’s very unique and has an interesting storyline. It isn’t scorching hot like some of her other books but it does have some hot scenes. Noahs scenes with her helping her heal and reminding her she’s a good girl are a tear jerker and it’s so sweet with the red light.

Something happens around 80% that I just couldn’t believe and it almost made me want to stop reading all together but I pushed through and I’m glad I did because {no spoilers} but airport and car scene just yay!! Then the house scene after that and oh it just gets better and better. From that moment on it was awesome. The ending of the book was so special and heart warming. It’s different then the other Black Light books but don’t let it stop you. I recommend this book to anyone who can handle the dark to get a really feel good book about love and healing.

WOW, what an intense book! It started from page 1 and it didn't end. This is my first read by this author and I did enjoy it. It was quite an experience and revelation to be in the character's point of view. I wanted to kill Ethan. I loved Noah and his patience, he knew exactly what Kitty needed and he gave it to her, it just took her a little longer to realize it. This is the deepest experience I've had in this genre and I will keep coming back. I love the Black Light Series, there is always something new to learn and understand about this type of relationship. I would recommend Ms. Smith and any of her books.

I received this advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was mesmerized by the story in this book. I could not comprehend what the main character went through and I commend the author for putting her imagination into words which were very hard to read and made it believable. I thought that the book was suspenseful, horrific, mind-blowing, tender, loving, and compassionate. How does a reviewer see all of that in one book? It was because the author wrote a compelling book which played out beautifully as each character was introduced into the story. She brought in characters from previous books who played a huge part in this story which gave the story depth. She created this story around another character who played a small part in a previous book and gave her life. A suspenseful story which I highly recommend. I am stunned though that all of the evil has not been eliminated (yet..here's hoping). However, I liked how the main male character handled the situation...very alpha male yet with controlled anger. Well done.

It was worth reading and I loved it ❤️. It was erotic and funny sad and suspense filled. I loved that Noah put Ethan in a cage after he punched him that was the best part

What a great story, I was drawn in almost from the first word and had to read it all before I could go to bed. The chemistry was amazing and the evil nature of Ethen was hard to comprehend, but unfortunately there are more like him. I laughed at the spider story and the education about Australia's wildlife was an interesting element to the story. I hope there will be more stories about Noah and Kitty as she heals and their relationship matures. A wonderful heartwarming book.

The Black Light series is phenomenal and Fearless by Maren Smith was fabulous.
Noah and Kitt's story pulled at my emotions. Kitty survived an abusive relationship with a bad Dom and found love with Noah in the most unusual circumstances.
Kitty broke my heart with her struggles of being a "good girl". Her struggles are so real the readers heart breaks when she internalized her fears and her lack of self esteem become stronger than logic.

My heart be still!! My emotions are all over the place as this book just completely and utterly entranced me from beginning to end. The story of Noah and Kitty will pull at your heartstrings and you will want to know more and more about them. Kitty was in a relationship with a Dom that didn’t end very well and she needed to get away. With the help of her friends, she went to stay with Noah in Australia for a little while. Noah, while a Dom, isn’t interested in a relationship, but wants to help Kitty. She was in a fragile state when she went to stay with him. But why? What happened to her? Can Noah help her? These characters have so much chemistry it just jumps at you off the pages. And you can tell by reading this, that this author did her research and knows the subject matter to the T. Plus who wouldn’t want to be with a rough and rugged, hot alpha, Australian man? If you love BDSM stories like I do, then please read this book! It is utterly incredible!

I really liked that although Noah helps Kitty, ultimately she finds the strength to stand up for herself and get her .

I would have rated this more highly, but physically striking a pregnant woman -- even if it's consensual -- is a hard limit for me. In addition, given how respectable a kink club Black Light is supposed to be, I felt the mangers were too obtuse when it came to spotting Kitty's abuse and that they didn't do enough to help her or the other women.

A single kitten scene in the whole story, really? Also that "fearless" kitten spent actually 95% of the story terrified and the pay off was too short and lackluster. I was hoping to like this better but... There is so much Australian clichés out of Wikipedia can do to make it interesting. Good thing the Dom of this story was actually skilled and loving and charismatic. The style of writing is good too. Sigh, 3 ⭐ is really the max I can give.

I really disliked how her pregnancy wasn't addressed. Like take her to the doctor to make sure she's alright. Other than that the book was just your average dark romance.

Blacklight: Fearless by Maren Smith is the first book of this series that I have read, and man what an introduction! This book is an incredible story, and I was sucked in from the beginning and could not stop. If you’ve ever dealt with someone, or have dealt yourself, who has had to come through an abusive relationship (whether it involve BDSM or not), then you will be able to relate to Kitty and her story.

This book starts off with an intense scene involving the main character – Kitty – escaping from her abusive, brutal Dom. This entire scene was incredibly hard to read, and yet it sets the stage for the entirety of what follows, and it sets it perfectly. As difficult as the first part of the book was to get through (and unlike the rest of the book, there was very little to ‘enjoy’ here), it brings the balance of the novel into perfect perspective, and helps you understand the mindset that Kitty is in. This is important, because much of what follows requires that you understand and accept the trauma Kitty has gone through, and how it is impacting her as she moves forward to recover.
The main focus of this novel really is Kitty, and rightfully so. She is damaged goods, by her own description, and there is a lot of self-exploration and overcoming of self-doubt that she needs to get through to recover from the abuse she has been put through. Noah, the man to whom she finds herself sent to help with that recovery, is seemingly perfect to help her through that recovery process, but Kitty has personal challenges to overcome (and the very nature of the place where both she and Noah are residing) before that can happen. Not provide any spoilers as to how all this takes place, but Noah does his best to work with her, while at the same time discovering something about himself and their relationship.

There is a plot ‘twist’ of sorts, although it is one pretty much hidden in plain sight. Unfortunately it is also one which Kitty decides to try and overcome on her own, as she feels is best for both her and Noah. The last portion of the novel deals with how she does this, and this is definitely an area that I refuse to provide too much detail or spoilers about, because it is just so frustrating at first, and then so beautiful as it resolves itself, that to do so would ruin the joy that reading it as it unfolds provides. Suffice to say that Kitty shows her true mettle at the end, and it is not only she that discovers something new about themselves.

I loved this story not just for the romance (and some very hot D/s, and pet play situations, of which there is!), but also because Kitty is not written as a tropish ‘damaged young woman who finds a firm man to guide her back to normal’. Again, not to give away spoilers, but the journey Kitty goes through was – to me – the best part of this story. She is a much stronger person than she gives herself credit for, and yet she is written by Ms. Smith in such a human, compelling way that you understand WHY she feels the way that she does, and then later – as much as it may frustrate and anger the reader – why she makes the choices she makes. She is not defined by her ‘rescuer’, but by how she determines she will deal with the situations in her life. There is a mettle to her that goes beyond just the trials she has been forced to endure, and even though she makes mistakes in her approach, you can understand and empathize with WHY she is making the choices she is making, even at the same time as you disagree with them. She is so far from a one-dimensional character that you really do come to sympathize with her, faults and all. Which makes what she ultimately achieves all the sweeter and truly touching.

Go. Get this novel. Read it, and fall into Kitty and Noah’s world. You are going to LOVE it.

I fell down the rabbit hole of the Black Light series about a month and a half ago. I was charmed by the MMF ménage book, Infamous Love by Livia Grant, and I couldn’t stop reading. As of today, there are two series. Black Light Fearless is the second book (theoretically) in the second series. Even more interesting is that each book is written by a different author, writers who are connected under Black Collar Press. Overall, this series is grounded in the BDSM club founded by the three characters from the first book, Jaxson, Chase, and Emma. Each book centers around different characters and their stories as they connect through the trio’s club, Black Light. I think what draws me to this series is this connection. In most of the books, you read characters from the other books in the series. I’ve always loved to follow characters through other books, as it offers me more of their stories. I’ve always struggled with saying “good-bye” to characters, so this series continues to allay my book-hangovers.

Black Light Fearless centers around Noah and Kitty. We encounter them in Black Light: Roulette Redux, an anthology/compilation of stories by the various authors for this series. Noah and Kitty figure into the story of Hadlee and Garreth as tertiary characters. Hadlee and Kitty are “pets” of Ethen, an abusive dominant. Neither of them recognize that Ethen’s form of dominance and submission is not centered on full consent; it’s abuse.

This story begins right after Hadlee’s story. Kitty realizes that Hadlee’s rejection of Ethen will fall upon Kitty. Unfortunately, this truth is real, and Ethen abuses Kitty horribly. Kitty realizes quickly that she cannot handle Ethen’s form of this lifestyle, and she calls Kitty and Garreth to rescue her. In the aftermath of this rescue, Ethen continues to threaten her life, and Garreth sends her away to his friend, Noah, who lives in Australia. From there, Noah must find a way to help Kitty heal from her relationship with Ethen. In doing so, will they find love? Will Noah show her the loving parts of the BDSM lifestyle? These are the questions of this book.

Since being sucked into these books, I’ve loved the characters and the way the BDSM lifestyle is shown. For the most part, these relationships are consensual and erotic. However, this book plays with the idea of consent and the line of abuse or dominance. It’s the only one that shows this line in such a dramatic fashion, and it makes for a compelling story.

Noah is one of my favorite characters in this series. In the former story with Hadlee, his perception of her former abuse makes him empathic and thoughtful in a way meant to help her heal and accept Garreth. He has this same sense of understanding with Kitty in this book, which causes you to fall in love with him. He is an empath, while also being a dominant. And he shows his empathy through his kindness and care of Kitty. He is swoon worthy for sure.

Kitty is a bit more difficult. There were times when I wanted to reach into my book and smack her. Trust me, my heart hurt for her as she struggles to come to terms with her abusive relationship with Ethen. However, when she readily reaches out to him to bring her back to the U.S., I was frustrated. Not just because Ethen is a horrible person, but more that she was leaving Noah, someone worthy of her love.

Together, this couple is beautifully bound, and Smith creates characters with an emotional connection first and a sexual connection second. For Kitty, this is necessary. I loved them together, and I couldn’t put the story down until the end.

If you want to see the emotional depths of a BDSM relationship, then read Black Light Fearless. Out of all of the books of the two series, this is one of my top 5 easily.

”He was the last thing she thought she needed, but she was everything he wanted."

Black Light: Fearless is my first book by this author and this book captured my interested from the very first page.

This book is intense, gripping, and so intriguing.

I haven't read a book quite like this one and I'm glad that I did! It grips at your heart and tugs and tugs and tugs. I went through an array of emotions: happy, sad, enraged, and hopeful. I will say that there are trigger warnings for this, especially in the beginning.

It has very intense pet play and abuse.

Let me start with Ethen.

I absolutely loathed Ethen. He was brutal, cold, calculated, unlikable. He truly did not care at all about what he was doing to the women and how he treated them. It was hard to read through how he treated these 'menagerie,' in which he referred to the women as. And I couldn't help but feel bad for the situation they were in, whether they wanted it or not.

Kitty.

I was intrigued by her character. I loved her vulnerablity and I admired her strength. Under the circumstances, she was resilent. Even though she was helpless, she thought on her toes. Ethen, her abusive ex, treated her like she was a rag doll, a play thing. I was glad when she was able to get out of the place he kept them tucked away in.

"I am a good girl.

I am safe.

I am loved.

I don't have to be afraid of anything."

Noah.

Hot, alpha male who is able to control his anger.

I was really suprised by how much I loved his character. I didn't expect him to be a Dom, and I certainly didn't expect him to take in someone who's so damaged. The natural progression of him and Kitty's relationship was facinating. The way he cared and wanted to protect her was sweet. And what I really admired was how much he wanted her to heal from the damage and abuse, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. His compassion, his patience, and his understanding shined through! I fell in love with Noah's character and the fact that he was willing to do anything to get to Kitty once he realized how he felt, and how important she was to him.

One thing did really surprised me was that Kitty being an actual kitty. I've never read anything like it before and the way she found herself, being able to feel comfortable in her own skin, in who she is. I loved that about Kitty. I knew she was just as amazing as Noah saw her, even under all the abuse that Ethen did.

The confrontation between Kitty and Ethen was something I was waiting for and I'm glad that Smith delivered! And when Noah and Ethen shared their confrontation, I was cheering him on and hoping he'd do more.

This story really shows you how much life has to offer after being in the dark and feeling stripped of who you are. It truly captures the meaning of healing and aftercare, in all aspects. It proves that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This is my first book by this author and definitely will not be my last! I hope we get to see more of Noah and Kitty!

I dip in and out of the Black Light series and one of the things I like about it so much as that most of the books stand alone. This one is enhanced if you read Maren Smith's story in Black Light Roulette Redux, but the author gives enough backstory at the beginning of Fearless that reading the Roulette story isn't really necessary. It's fun to see Master Noah in action again, though.
Evil Master Ethen's Menagerie continues to fracture in Fearless with Kitty running away and seeking sanctuary with the former-Piggy and her new Dom. Kitty's even more broken than Piggy and it's heartbreaking to see how she initially views the safe haven she finds with Noah. Noah's a magnificent Dom, though, and finds a way not just to make Kitty feel safe, but to bring back those elements of pet play that gave her fulfilment without reminding her of Ethen's abuse. The killer koala scene had me laughing out loud and the whole setting is so vivid I felt I was Down Under with the characters.
The story lost a star for me because Kitty makes a too-stupid-to-live decision that leads to her (predictable) separation from Noah. Although I really enjoyed seeing Kitty confront her demon, I'm weary of romance heroines not communicating their fears with the hero and making life-threatening decisions. It just makes me lose respect for the character. The book also ends abruptly after the climax with some big issues still kicking around. Having now read Puppy's book, these issues are recapped there, but not shown and I'd have liked to see them play out a little more in this book to give it a stronger sense of completeness.

OMG! I LOVE this author. This is the first actual book written by her that I have read, and I loved every single word. I was torn between taking a break to make the story last longer and NEVER putting it down, so I could continue to immerse myself in this frightening, yet erotic, exciting, and pleasure filled story.

In this book, Maren Smith used her phenomenal writing skill to make me feel the terrifying anticipation experienced by Kitty, a submissive. From the very first sentence, fear began to build in my stomach and tighten my throat. The punishment Kitty endured from her angry dom was more than harsh, and my trepidation continued to grow right along with hers. My stomach in knots, it was a relief to see the words, “Chapter 2.” Then, while I was still angry, even furious, with how Kitty was being treated by her sick, sadistic dom, this author actually made me laugh. What the heck! How was that even possible???

New feelings emerged in both of us when Kitty escaped to Australia. I wanted to cry for her insecurity and pain. I empathized with her fear of the unknown, and her misery at her inability to provide anything for herself. And, I laughed at her fear of spiders.

This talented author took me on a spiritual, emotional and physical roller coaster ride. She was able to skillfully pull me into the soul of an abused woman, into the heart of a submissive, and at last into a woman’s sublime fulfillment. Thank you Maren Smith!

Maren Smith’s “Black Light: Fearless” was an amazing story of second chances. Kitty has been through something horrific, but she gains the courage to flee and ends up flying halfway around the world to get away from an abusive relationship and hopefully find her true self once again. Noah Carver takes in the frightened woman who has more than PTSD and what ensues is a tenuous relationship that is much like pulling apart silken threads without breaking them because each piece is precious.

Ms. Smith does an amazing job putting us in Kitty’s head as she battles the demons threatening to unravel her. So much so, I ended up with goosebumps as I was reading and would have to take breaks. Yea, it’s that powerful. And Noah is so calm and nonchalant on the outside as he works to slowly get the terrified Kitty to open up and eventually put her claws away. Granted, the wildlife of Australia appears to be out to kill poor Kitty, so she does have that to contend with as well; and I will say that I greatly appreciated and needed the comedic interjections in what is an emotional story.

And since this is a Black Light story, we do get a bit of a glimpse of some of the other characters in the series, which makes it all the more memorable.

Brilliant...I want more!!!

I love the Black Light authors and Maren Smith has such a way with her stories that you can't help but fall for her characters. When we were left on such a cliffhanger in Black Light Redux, I was eager to see what would happen with Kitty, Hadlee, Gareth and Noah and I have to say, this isn't what I expected but I LOVED it anyway!

This one is definitely Kitty and Noah's tale and it is emotional, hard hitting and very sexy! I enjoyed how these two grew together after such a harrowing experience (which Maren writes amazingly well that it hooks you in and doesn't let go!). The highs and lows are at times extreme, but this makes their journey that much more satisfying and worth every emotional moment Maren throws our way.

I have to admit, I want to see more of Kitty, Noah, Hadlee and Garreth as they steer their budding relationships from their new beginnings to stronger foundations as I feel we are just starting to scratch the surface for the two couples. I hope this isn't the last we see from these four and that Maren will work her magic once more and give us more from these interesting pairings.

I need to know how to rate a book more than five stars on a scale of one to five. This book was a perfect ten. The novella Shameless left us with a cliff-hanger I’ve been dying to see the end of for months. Like everything else I’ve read in the Black Light universe, this book goes to some very dark places in order to show us the light. If it doesn’t already it should probably come with a trigger warning because there’s definitely stuff in here that’s very hard to read. But it also spotlights the healing powers of love and trust. Showing that the people who truly care for us will move heaven and earth to put us back together after we’ve been broken. I adored watching the patience and care Noah took while helping Kitty to recover. It broke my heart to live in Kitty’s head and see how she justified the treatment she’d endured. (I’m almost in tears right now as I type this, remembering.) There’re still one or two loose ends that I’d like to know how they get tied off, but for now I’m okay to wait to see if and how they’re woven back into Noah and Kitty’s and Gareth and Hadlee’s lives.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

Really good story

Although in the end I kind of wanted to throttle Kitty she pulled it off in the end with flying colors and made me laugh... I absolutely loved Noah but I swear he almost reminded me of a British man not a Austrailian Crocodile Dundee man the way he spoke sounded nothing like an Australian granted I've not been around many but Crocodile Dundee was one of my all time favorites but I mean I know blokey is a word they use often I don't recall them using the word Yeah a lot and a bunch of other words it just really didn't fit in with the character in my opinion but I could be totally wrong anyways other then that I really wanted to see Ethen get what was coming to him but sadly it seems all he really got was the butt kicking he deserved but poor puppy will end up taking the brunt of his anger from here on out unless she finds a way out I wonder if we will read her story soon? But I think there is only one book left so I doubt it ah well it's a really good read check it out
