As the oldest of eleven children, Denver cop Zach Harmon spent a lot of time helping out with his siblings. Now he's enjoying his freedom, and although he loves his nieces and nephews, he doesn't plan on having a family of his own.
Then Shelley Hightower invites him to a dinner being held in her honor. Shelley's a perfect date - beautiful, funny, independent, everything he admires in a woman. The whole evening passes like a dream - and the truth is, neither of them wants it to end. So when the blizzard begins, it seems logical to take shelter for the night... Together.
Six weeks later, he learns there's a baby on the way. Unexpectedly, Zach finds that he's looking forward to giving up his bachelor life for the woman he loves - and their child.
One of the things that can tell you a story is good is getting emotionally involved with the characters enough that you want to smack them around for being stupid. This is one of those stories. The hero and heroine have a close encounter when they are snowed in during a blizzard. They are careful, but the heroine turns up pregnant anyway. But the hero has already told her more than once that he helped raise his 10 siblings and is done with kids, never wants any of his own. The heroine seems quite justified in taking him at his word, and can't believe him when he says he's changed his mind. She has other issues, making her reluctant to trust anyone. He has a teenaged sister who's struggling with, well, everything and creates complications. This is just a nice juicy drama with multiple angst and characters who occasionally seem to need a smack upside the head. Just sayin'. I enjoyed it a whole lot.
An ok book. This would be good for passing time or the lazy-day read. Good characters and a little interesting interactions. Slower paced, stubborn, aggravating at times, but a good ending.
