Eighteen years ago, Goss was nearly murdered as a baby—by his own parents, who wanted to sacrifice him to strengthen the Seabolt bloodline's magic. Thankfully, he was rescued by his guardian Shaw, and a Finder, Tolan, who was unwittingly dragged into the mess. Since then, they have raised him to someday reclaim the Seabolt title.
But much to his fathers' dismay, Goss has Tolan's temper and Shaw's affinity for trouble, and a terrible incident from three years ago has left him with zero friends, constant harassment, unable to finish his magical training, and the possible loss of the title he's waited so long to reclaim.
And while Goss isn't remotely sorry for the choices he made, he desperately wishes that someone, anyone, would look beyond his miserable past, his infamous fathers, and a terrible accident that isn't at all what it seems...
Megan is a long time resident of queer romance and keeps herself busy reading and writing it. She is often accused of fluff and nonsense. When she’s not involved in writing, she likes to cook, harass her wife and cats, or watch movies. She loves to hear from readers and can be found all over the internet.
This started out a ficbit for my Patreon, but it decided it wanted to be more than that. So for everybody who kept hoping this would happen one day, hopefully your patience will prove worthwhile :3
Oh man....I loved this one just like the first. We get to see Goss all grown up and what he's been through the last 3 years just broke my heart. But Tae Min is there to help mend his heart. This was a sweet hurt-comfort book. But UGH! That ending again! I want to know what happened with them. I needed more information for their future. It could have been 5 stars for me with a good ending.
I'm telling you though...I've found a new fantasy author to binge on.
A lovely novella and addition to the original story. But wish it was more. This only felt like a novella, with not much happening. Would have loved to see more of this intriguing world.
This is a rather short follow-up to Finder Tolan -- as we catch up with Goss Ralien Seabolt, proclaimed heir of Lord and Lady Seabolt, who has grown up, being the adopted son of Tolan Lakeith and Shaw Seacrist.
For the past three years -- after Goss is being accused of killing the golden son of Derlin's family, albeit accidentally, Goss's life hasn't been easy. But Goss has made a promise to keep actual event secret, even if he secretly wish that somebody will see beyond the gossip.
It's nice to read about grown-up Goss -- and sweet as well. Of course, I'm more amused of reading how Tolan and his temper being a father to Goss.
Whether short story or novel, usually I love Megan Derrˋs novels. This one felt a bit empty to me, though - almost more like a first draft. The motivation of the main character wasn’t explored sufficiently and I had difficulty believing that Tolan and Shaw wouldn’t have tried to help him more. Also he transferred his love/lust from one older man he to another one too quickly. This is is perfectly fine, as long as the author doesn’t ask me to believe it’s love. It’s a pity, because Gossˋ voice is fun and the world building is interesting.
Now this one I liked very much. Though it did make me cry - I'm not good with bullying and humiliation. It was definitely better than the first book, more happened on-page and it has a satisfactory plot. With just a little more than an hour reading time, or sixty pages, it is rather simple, but simple doesn't mean bad and I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't recommend reading it as a standalone, or you'll know nothing about magic and politics.
Set eighteen years after Finder Tolan, we meet Goss Seabolt, now a young man. His life has more balance, due to his two fathers, but rumors swirling around an event three years prior, have made him the object of bullies. And since they live at court at least six months of the year, the bullies and their cadre of friends are always there.
The rumors cost him an apprenticeship and friends; the bullies cost him clothes and reputation. When someone Goss has admired from afar accosts and accuses him, it’s the last straw.
Goss is tired of opinions and prejudgements, and just needs some air.
Tae Min just wants to see the city, without his entourage in tow. When he comes upon a young mage working an Binding - laying a spell in layered components on a fishing net and then binding the spell to the net - Tae Min is able to explain and help the young mage who has overexerted himself. He makes a friend of the young mage, Goss, and they while away some time, with food and conversation.
Can it be more? Some things need to be dealt with in both their lives, before there is time to explore. A. charming story!
Fascinating to see Goss as an adult and this truly is a separate story about him. He is all grown up at twenty but not in any particularly better straits that as the sacrificial toddler of the first story. Now he is fighting his own battles and, for reasons that are hidden for much of the story, hated by almost the entire upper class for a murder of one of their own which Goss is blamed for. We are seeing the results of him dealing with three years of disgust and bullying when he meets accidentally meets a prince from a far off country. They are a fascinating duo and watching Goss with someone who doesn't judge him is lovely, but it is clear that things need to change. Truly a son of the two men who adopted him, Goss finds a way with help from this new unexpected person in his life. Lovely little story!
Decided to read it on Valentine's Day and I'm so glad I did. After reading Finder Tolan, I'd actually wanted a book about Moonrise and Lord Sealore. But we did get glimpses of them and more of Shaw and Tolan which made me quite happy. This boookkkk. I just wanted to hug Baby Goz and never let go. It was very short but absolutely perfect nonetheless. I'm so glad she decided to release it for us. Megan is the only author who manages to hit me right in the feels all the damn time. Its like she reaches into my heart and pulls out things I didn't even know I'd wished for in her books. Lord Seabolt was one such delightful morsel in a whole entire feast that left me smiling. Happy Valentine's everyone💕
I needed a pick-me-up read and, as is my habit, I reached for Megan Derr's books. She never lets me down on that front.
This is one that I hadn't read yet and wow, I should have a long time ago. The bullying in the story was hard but the resolution made me feel much better. Lovely story and I do feel better now, so it worked perfectly for me.
It is a cute story and you get to see what happens to Goz. It would be nice if it was a bit longer with more detail and maybe Megan will revise it and it will be longer. Have enjoyed most of her stories that I have read.
Five stars for yay I wanted this part of the story, one star for the MC having awful boundaries despite the men who raised him, three stars because I enjoyed the rest of the plot, so we'll call it good but not fantastic, worthy but annoying, midrange good.
Goss Seabolt I enjoyed this fantasy setting as always and found Goss really sweet and endearing. I felt for him when he was rejected. Then the story was quick and easy but I had a good time 😊✨💖✨😊
I didn't know there is another story to follow the one told in "Finder Tolan"! I'm so glad I found it, it was heartwarming really. Despite the abuse main character endured.
Oh yeah! Just like with the first one Megan hit all my emotion buttons like a virtuoso here!
The book continues with Goss's story after he is all grown up and it will break your heart.
Goss has grown up with the values that his fathers, Tolan and Shaw, uphold, which unfortunately for him has landed him in being hated by most of the nobles and tormented by 3 of his peers for 3 years now because he shoulders a burden not his own but won't reveal secrets either. When the man he had a crush on breaks his heart with callous words he just has to escape to his quiet place. Returning from there he bumps into Tae Min an Imperial Prince and the story goes from there.
I wonder if we'll ever get the stories of the other 2 families because I love how we get glimpses of the previous couples and their HEAs and really Megan hits all the right notes with these for me.
I really liked that! Short, fun read. Tolan and Shaw were less obnoxious as side characters, and Goss's struggles seem real. Quick, easy resolution of course, as is to be expected in something so short, but it was enough to be interesting.
I have read many books by Megen Derr and I am so happy she continued this series. Just like the first book I couldnt put it down! Hope there is another one to come!
