If you enjoy books by Robert B. Parker, Robert Crais, and James Patterson, then you will enjoy this new detective crime thriller series by Jason Richards.
Jason Richards is the author of the Drew Patrick hard-boiled detective crime thriller series. He has enjoyed reading detective and thriller stories since he was a child. His biggest inspirations are the tough and witty hard-boiled Boston P.I. Spenser, by Robert B. Parker, and Elvis Cole by Robert Crais.
Jason loves writing the Drew Patrick novels and hopes his readers enjoy being part of the adventures. Like his main character, Jason is a lifelong fan of Boston sports -- particularly his beloved Red Sox. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife, teenage son, and a Beagle-mix dog (the inspiration for Dash).
A prequel for the Drew Patrick series. Reminds me a lot of Robert B. Parker's Spenser books. Well written and had my attention from the first chapter. Looking forward to more in the series.
This was the first book in a series by a new author. He has written several more around the same main character.
This is a private investigator in Boston who is a former FBI agent. The story revolves around him being hired by a distraught mother worried about her once well-adjusted daughter who has quit high school and moved in with a boy the mom doesn't know. The case is finding the daughter so the mom has a chance of convincing her to return home. The case, of course, is far more complex and involved that simply that.
The story was interesting but I found the writing presentation too forced. The author wanted the detective to be clever and joking but it seemed to contrived for me. Also, the detail of driving on every street name was too much. Maybe if you were very familiar with Boston. And, too much descriptive words. Not everything needs to be described in such detail, especially when the ending comes so quickly and the wrap up drags on.
I am not regretting the time of reading it, but given all the books out there from very good writers I may not be rushing to read the next one in the series.
A self-deprecating PI with a dog. It's the type of scenario that gets a TV company interested. What's not to like? Well, the evil twins for a start. Those two enjoyed their job a little too much. The violence felt out of step with the law-abiding side of the story as Drew, Jessica and the local police tried to keep the students from coming to harm. Cozy mystery meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre sprang to mind. It's fast-paced and easy to read. With no shortage of story threads out there to explore maybe Drew and Dash will amass a legion of fans.
It was good. Unfortunately I kept comparing the main character, Drew, with Spenser. Not a good thing to do. It felt like I was dealing with either a Spenser’s younger brother or a Spenser wanna-be. Empathetic, Boston, sports, beer, smarter girl friend, liked to cook. Other than that I liked the story. Good story line. Some action. Quick read. I know the first book of a series is busy introducing the characters. I will try the second book to see how they have grown.
Great writing, excellent characters and an entertaining storyline made this a lot of fun to read. It had just the right amount of humor to balance out the suspense. The bad guys were ruthless and the good guys were on top of their game. Looking forward to more!
I enjoyed the book and look fwd 2 reading the next one. PI Drew Patrick is on a quest to find Tina and the guy she disappeared with, Aaron. Aaron may be the big school jock but he also has a secret. Money and bad people =murder. Will Tina and Aaron meet the grim reapers-Mickey and Jax?
This is a very good start to what seems to be a promising series. There was lots of action, some pretty brutal, and the story moved quickly. I am looking forward to reading the next one.
Hire for one case but pulled into another one. He was not getting paid but wanted to give a young couple who was on the wrong track a chance. I have a new author.
Very entertaining and interesting storyline about a former FBI agent turned private investigator as he looks for a teenage girl and becomes involved in a murder mystery.
Overall I thought it was a good book. I just wish that there was more scene development. It felt like there was a great framework but it all could have been expanded upon with more detail and/or longer scenes.
I see potential in this series, but Drew just doesn't stand out in this first book in the series. Hopefully the author will continue to develop his protagonist in future books. Still a good read, just a little predictable and one dimensional in this reader's opinion.
I enjoyed the fact the story was easy to follow and that the ending did not leave you wondering. I would recommend this book to other to read. I think it is great for young adult or an older audience.
Quick and easy read. Read this book in a single day and enjoyed it all the way. My only issue would be that i tend to like more details in my books. overall enjoyable and I want more!

I liked many of the elements of this story, the descriptions of Boston, the interplay of the characters and the (predictable but satisfying) conclusion.
