This was an enjoyable book. I felt bad for Darby because her brother was CRAZY. She deserved better than that. Thankfully she had Carter. He understood how crazy her brother was. I was happy that after everything the two of them went through that they got their HEA.

This is about average for this genre. I always fall in love with the characters so it’s hard not to enjoy the story.

I really enjoyed this book by R.S. Lively,,, was another bullseye in my opinion,,,,,,

Carter Bishop grew up in an orphanarium in New York, Hell's Kitchen at St. Agatha's Home for Children, he was dropped off at the age of 10 because his parents were tired of being parents and really just wanted to be free and party,,, but he was pretty much the king of the home, no other kids did anything to anyone else without Carter's approval and there, he saves a newbie named Mason from getting beat up by another boy,,,, Mason and his little sister Darby have been dropped off after their parent's death and waiting for their aunt and uncle to come and pick them up, at 18 he leaves and starts working for a guy named "Pops" doing all sorts of different things,,,, later Carter starts "Bishop Financial",,,, a very successful business, and one day he sees someone very familiar,,, that red hair and those eyes,,,, it can't be,,, but it is,,,, Darby White,,,, and he really would like to see her again, alone,,,, but, Mason has a thing or 2 to say about that,,, which will effect their relationship,,,,,

Darby White's parents died, she went to the orphanarium with her brother after her parents died and then they went to live with their well off aunt and uncle, her brother, Mason takes that and runs with it, he becomes a lawyer and then he climbs the ladder further and started throwing his weight around and threatened Carter, who, in turn, left Darby and then, on an off chance, they find each other again,,,,,

This was the perfect, second chance book, if I've ever read one,,,, I laughed, I was intrigued, I didn't want the book to end,,,, but it was definitely the HEA we all know and love,,,,, the suspense, the hot steam,,,, all of it was a great read,,,, I would so totally recommend this book to anyone,,,, !!!

I got this ARC voluntarily to do an honest review

Lovely second chance💝 romance with an angelic 🎨art teacher and a hero who's pulled himself to the top of the💵 financial world through sheer determination and a kind mentor who always believed in him. Their story and future would not have been half so interesting without meddling from the heroine's self-obsessed brother. There's 🔥steam along with the romance and it's all in all a very enjoyable read.

I love an alpha hero who does not need to totally dominate his heroine and Carter is definitely my mind of hero. The fact that, unlike the heroine's brother Mason, he is willing to put others first even when he ends up suffering makes him the right guy for sweet, altruistic Darby. He's ethical, hardworking, and treats his employees with respect. Where can I find a guy like Carter?!

The 🎀 holiday touches, including way too much garland for Christmas-averse Carter!, add some humor, as does mentor Pop's playful relationship with his home health care assistant.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

An interesting take on being from "The Kitchen" area of New York. The story line to begin with, starts with going back and forth in the lives of the two main male and female characters and the female character's brother. Amazing characterizations of the two main characters, as well as the supporting cast. The story's foundation is laid out in the first few chapters, highlighting a gritty environment and the blossoming of romance between the two main male and female characters. It really is amazing how people stick their noses in places they really do not belong and when done, rarely ever yielding positive results. The author informs the reader on how family members going through the same life experiences can end up being "polished" in vastly different ways. This is a story that really draws the reader in and make them feel compelled to hunker down and read the novel in its entirety in one sitting.

Good Stuff!

A Wonderful Second Chance Romance. Enjoy!
Carter and Darby are characters that you're going to learn to love.  Mason, her older brother, well let's say I still didn't really like him much at all even at the end of the book!  What a controlling creep!  R.S. Lively has composed the most delicious second chance romance for us here. Our hero and heroine were parted because of the Manipulative Mason.  They initially met in an orphanage before he was fabulously wealthy so there is no issue about her being attracted to his money.  However, he did disappear and left her without a word and very hurt. But ten years later he is back and he needs to explain why he was warned away!  A wonderful second chance romance that kept me, a typical romantic fan, glues to my kindle until I'd finished reading it!  Written with flair and humour as well as plenty of steam.  I really enjoyed this story and encourage you to try this too.   I look forward to R.S. Lively's next romantic adventure. I received a reader's copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here. Definitely recommended

Overall this book was decent. I’m usually not a huge fan of the billionaire trope because it seems like most are so far fetched. This book was actually one of the more realistic billionaire books that I’ve read.

The first couple chapters were tough to get into but they do offer valuable insight to the characters. I typically read a book fairly quickly but this one seemed to drag on and not completely capture my attention. Could be due to my lack of interest in the trope more than the writing itself. I did enjoy how Carter and Darby’s relationship progressed as it did seem more realistic than any other billionaire book. I did feel like there was a long build up of everything and then it was all of a sudden resolved in a hurry...which was a little frustrating.

Overall, decent book but probably not one that I’ll reread multiple times.

Drags on and on... and on

Ok this book started out with a lot of promise for me. However it quickly went downhill. I love good writers. Those that can transport you to a place in your mind with words alone. This just had waaay too many words. It drones on and on. If Carter explains the ambiance of a place, i dont need Darby to also give me the rundown when she walks in. Also, maybe it's just me, but they dated for 5 minutes when she was 18 and you would think he freaking cheated on her the way she goes on. Ok. He hurt her...but given the circumstances I think the guy definitely deserves a pass. Ya, actually someone's fucking life was more important than ur 2wk love affair. Sorry not my cup of tea. I couldn't even make it half way.

A second chance romance. I found the start to be a little slow, but it sets up the backstory nicely. Darby and her brother were orphaned and placed in a home in Hell’s Kitchen, a tough part of New York. There, they meet Carter for the first time. Darby’s just a little kid, but she meets Carter a second time as an adolescent. Now, as adults, they have a sort of shared childhood history but so much has changed for them all. I loved watching the characters change and grow over the years, and the development of their relationship. There was nice chemistry between the characters. Enjoyable read.

I absolutely fell in love with this well written second chance romance and couldnt put it down and was shattered when i finished it.
Darby and Carter met in an orphange but only knew each other for a month before Darby and her brother were picked up by their uncle and aunt.
8 years later they meet again and enter into a passionate relationship but Carter disappears without saying anything and Emma is left heart broken.
Now they are face to face again after being apart for 10 years and this time Carter will not allow anything or anyone to tear the woman he loves away from him again.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book

What I liked/Didn’t Like: A very well written Second chance romance. The characters in this one made the book however I thought the heroine’s brother was a jerk. Other than that, I loved t.

Many books have the trend of having couples in a relationship experience a fight, breakup or other emotional Drake due to a misunderstanding. While the couple in this book didn't have a self-inflicted misunderstanding they unfortunately lost ten years together due to outside influences. I enjoyed reading this book and seeing the big bad successful businessman turn into a softie around his girl. The ongoing battle between Carter and Mason and their "possible contest" so to speak was entertaining to me as I caught myself smiling/giggling as I read the scenes and could vividly picture the conversations as I read. I enjoyed the couple in this book and thought it was well written.

This book is everything I enjoy rolled up in one book. It’s a second chance romance about a rags to riches billionaire who courts the love he met when they were both kids during Christmas. Darby and Carter are both sensitive, intelligent, loving and tough on the outside. There are so many feelings that bubble out from this story and that’s a hallmark of R. S. Lively’s writing. You feel every emotion, visualize every scene, and experience every action as if it were happening to you. You’ll be laughing, crying and curling your toes as you read My Billionaire Protector.

The story of Darby and Carter takes quite a few twists and turns and spans a couple of decades. They meet as young kids, reconnect when they are young adults and then again a decade later. There are a lot of things that happen to pull them apart, which is what the story is really about as well as the fact that they have to learn to trust their hearts. I loved the realness of the characters, the way the author weaves the relationships and delivers the outcome. A great book! Although i received this as an ARC, all opinions are my own.

Awesome

Wow, a second chance romance that is a captivating read. The story of Carter & Darby’s life unfolds throughout this book and you see they have known each other for years, but interference from her brother Mason results in them separating. But then they meet agin 10 years later and Carter has some explaining to do. I loved this book. The story behind their lives, loves, loses, relationships, lust and passion. An amazing read that you'll not want to miss. I received this as an arc and would recommend anybody to read it.

Absolutely Beautiful

This a book for the record I will tell you that. This was amazing ride and I can't wait to ride it again. This book has characters you love, hate, and love to hate but can't. With every turn of the page you are on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next.

I will tell you if my brother was like Darby's I would have to put his jewels in a sling. Beautiful love story, it just keeps you guessing where it's going to end and how.

Until Next Time.... Tabi

So many wonderful things about this book. Seeing Carter make something of his life after coming from less then nothing was fantastic, as was his love for Darby that lasted all those years. And then to see Darby who had all the privlage in the world be so down to earth and love teaching kids, and still always have Carter on her mind. They sure had their ups and downs, no thanks to Darby's brother, but they made it through and it was so awesome. The perfect love story of two people that came from so many differences had made it work. Awesome Love story

Then again 10 years later they meet and Carter has some explain in to do. I loved this book. The story behind their lives, loves, loses, relationships, lust and passion. WOW.... intense story. Reminds me of a mafia movie without the murder, drugs and what not. This book had me turning page after page. I held my breath as two alpha males from the opposite ends of the spectrum go at it. At the same time there is a second chance for two people that were torn apart by the machination of a family member. A very good read. I do recommend it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

While this book started out with a lot of potential, a rags to riches romance, it floundered some for me. It became a little repetitious and, therefore, dragged out. Carter held my attention while Darby's character did little for me (could not quite get into her for some reason)other than allow Carter to reach for a HEA. It is still a decent second chance romance but could have used a little more ... something.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a receive.

What an emotionally riveting story about three children who grew up in an orphanage in Hells Kitchen New York. As R. S. Lively shows us the paths and personalities each of these individuals have taken and grown into, you will be captivated and intrigued by what life has to offer and how it's been adapted to. In many ways, this is a hard, heartfelt story that will keep you emotionally connected throughout the entire book.

This is a very good second chance romance. The storyline is sometimes gritty in its descriptions. It starts in a less desirable area, and children, then after the characters are of age. There is steam and drama. The characters' portrayals are realistic and their interactions are very good. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

I loved this second chance romance between Cater and Darby. I was so happy to see Cater getting a happily ever after with all the bad that happened to him as a child. It was just so sweet seeing him give back to the community in so many ways. This was such a heart touching story and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to read it.

I enjoyed this book about two souls reconnecting several times in their lives after being forced apart by forces with evil intentions. Darby is a sweet character finding it hard to trust herself and others with her heart and feelings a for Carter he will do what ever it takes to rectify the mistakes of the past and win back the only woman he ever loved.
