Michele writes books packed with heart and humor, best friends and girl power. She also writes cozy comedies under the pen-name Lilly Bartlett. Lilly’s books are full of warmth, romance, quirky characters and guaranteed happily-ever-afters.
Story 1: Christmas at the Falling Down Guesthouse — Two Stars — The 7 yr old character, Mabel, doesn’t sound believable as a 7 yr old. The romance comes from nowhere, and ends up detracting from the story. Lottie and Danny are surprisingly inept at adulting, and the fiasco of them running the B&B is neither humorous nor charming. That said, it’s not among the worst things I’ve read.
Story 2: Christmas Carol — Three Stars — A retelling of A Christmas Carol that is okay, but just that. I did actually laugh out loud at one description of the ice duck though, so there’s that.
Story 3: Twelve Days to Christmas — One Star — The MC of this one, Hannah, is the worst of the lot. Reading her story was equal parts boring and eye rolling, and nearly caused me to dnf this with every chapter.
It looks cute but the stories are awful. Bridget Jones style with none of the funny. Just loads of rambling and details that aren't important. First is a cute attempt at a romance except the male main character is an idea not even a sketch. Second is an unpleasant woman finds out she's horrible. Third is a tour of Hong Kong. They pretend to be romances but aren't worth the effort.
3 short stories, loved the first and wanted it longer. Already read the full version of second, which was amazing, 3rd felt like so,etching was missing. Great writing, sort stories are just that, cannot give you the in depth background and chance to get to your your characters.
I can't say I enjoyed this book that much. I'd read the first two stories before and they were, well, I guess. The third story was a bit too unbelievable and silly in my opinion.
Three books packaged as one, but with characters who are true to real life, with all the fears, failures, and doubts that we each have. The author has a great perspective and embues her characters with realistic thoughts and feelings. Excellent read
The first two were funny but the third one while trying to be cute and clever left me flat. I’ll leave this author to her younger audience. Please note that I read the British edition which was full of British slang and sayings.
These three books are different enough to stand alone, but similar enough to engender the same warm fuzzy feelings of Christmas, romance, and happily ever after.
