Best selling auther, D'niel Jenkins, is killed in a drive-by shooting. Her husband, Detective Rafe Coburn, discovers a nemisis from his past is to blame for her death. Grieving and unable to deal with not being part of the investigation, he sells everything they owned, and moves house.
Claire Ramgarry, an aspiring writer, purchases a computer at an auction. There's something weird about the machine, and when she discovers manuscripts of her favourite series, she realises whose computer she's bought.
Rafe, aware of his mistake, goes in search of D'niel's computer, eventually arriving on Clare's doorstep. When she answers the door, he's amazed to see Annie, the girl he loved and left sixteen years before.
Destiny has reunited the lovers, but can they survive the trials ahead?
Note: I ‘met’ Ms Addicoat online a few years ago and in one of our conversations we were talking about names. I mentioned people say mine incorrectly because it isn’t pronounced how it looks. My way of explaining it for people to remember it is to write my name as ‘D’niel.’ I’m flattered Ms Addicoat liked it so much she named a character in her story D’niel too. Admittedly, it took a while to separate the character from myself because I was constantly reading ‘my’ name, but I sure enjoyed this story.
Love works in mysterious ways, but even acclaimed author D’niel Jenkins couldn’t have imagined she’d become the catalyst to reuniting long lost lovers as she lay dying in her office having just typed the words “the end” on her latest masterpiece.
When Rafe and Claire meet, Claire realises Rafe is the boy she thought her brothers murdered years ago, while Rafe is stunned to discover he still loves the girl who owned his heart when they were in their teens. Claire reveals ‘Annie’ went into hiding so her brothers would never hurt her again. She’s managed to evade them for over a decade, but now someone is watching her house, following her to work, and somehow knows the detective has more than just a concerned interest in her welfare.
Now on the right side of the law, Rafe has just put Claire’s estranged father in prison. Thanks to the man’s sons, Rafe knows his wife paid for his past connection with Claire’s family with her life and he’ll never forgive himself for what’s happened. But fate, and D’niel too, it seems, has other ideas.
Second chance love, mystery, murder, suspense, and more than a few ‘ghosts’ haunt this wonderful story. Rafe and Claire’s story will tug at your heartstrings, have you biting your nails, and demanding justice. And yes, I may be biased, but D’niel Jenkins is certainly a character whose attributes I’d fondly embrace. :)
This is a wonderful book with some great twists and turns. When D'niel Jenkins, is killed in a drive-by shooting, her husband, Detective Rafe Coburn, sells everything and moves house.
