The author suggests that siege against Hinduism today is visible in four dimensions: 1. Religious, in the denigration of Hindu icons: 2. Psychological; -e.g. in the foisting of a fraudulent version of our history; 3. Physical- e.g. the Islamic terrorist-driven ethnic cleansing of Hindus in Kashmir and nBangladesh, and the money-induced conversion of Hindus to Christianity; 4. Cultural- e.g. through globalisation of tastes, dress and interpersonal morality that are determind in the Anglo-saxon white Christian world ("The West").
Subramanian Swamy is an Indian politician, academic and an economist. He is the President of the Janata Party of India. He also presently serves as chairman of the SCMS Board of Governors of the SCMS Group of Educational Institutions in Kerala. Swamy has previously served as member of the Planning Commission of India and Cabinet Minister of India. He has written extensively on foreign affairs dealing largely with India-China, India-Pakistan and Indo-Israel relation and is also a published author. In November 1978, Swamy was member of the Group of Eminent persons called to Geneva to prepare a report of the United Nations (UNCTAD) on Economic Co-operation between Developing countries (ECDC).Swamy simplified trade procedures and formulated a new export strategy which became the forerunner of trade reform adopted subsequently. In 1994, Swamy was appointed as Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade by then Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. This was perhaps for the first time that a Opposition Party member was given a Cabinet rank post by the ruling party.
Non-fictions can many a times be circumlocutory but not this one . It is terse and to the point . Swamy's erudition evokes envy . The utter disregard for the falsification of Indian History and the rooted callousness in amending it at the grassroots of the school curriculum is disheartening. For instance I always believed in the Aryan invasion theory taught to us in schools. The dismissal of this widely propagated theory and evidences supporting the homogeneity of the Indian ethnicity is a revelation . The book is devoid of all frills and fancies and from its first page led by a single motive to offer pragmatic solution to an epidemic -the dissolving national consciousness. Although titled Hindus under siege , the book is not about that eponymous religious community rather about the people who lived and live in the terrains between the HI-malayan foothills and the banks of INDUS . Hence no religious connotations in its christening .Unlike many who vainly bemoan and lament over the bleeding and loss of our culture and economy Swamy presents plausible solutions for recuperation. The book is a clarion call that must be heeded and responded vociferously and unanimously for us to surge ahead and not submerge . A "Must read" for every Indian.
A must read book for every Indian. Though lack of copious notes makes it somewhat dubious... But still, where ever references are provided, they are excellent and thoroughly researched... Note: please keep your mind receptive while reading this book...
Really an eye opener. This still fit to current scenarios. Must read for all to understand what we were and what needs to be done to counter against the forces. This book informs all what we usually don't know. It is only Hinduism which is really secular. And in that lies the safety and integrity of all religions in our nation. Very well written and highly convincing. I like this book with vast knowledge of the writer. Everyone should read it.
I will make it simple: 1. You can't miss this if you are a Hindustani(or an Indian). 2. You shouldn't miss this. Read the book and my words will make a sense. Must read by every Indian/patriot. The TRUTH is laid out all bare.
Subramanian Swamy has been an inspiration for me from past few years, after I started following him on Twitter. Here, I was shocked to observe that his opinions and views were misrepresented over the years in the leading news agencies. His views are generally crisp, clear and his opponents are rarely spared. Reason? His understanding of the Indian values on which I believe he has done a lot of research.
This book was written in mid of the last decade and it makes it even more interesting to read. While reading, your brain will continuously compare what is mentioned in the book and what is happening in 2019-20. There is a lot of stupid rant going around the internet that Hindutva is just a tool to fool people by the current Government to get some benefits in elections. This book made me aware that the Hindutva warriors were firm on their views from ages and why Hindus are actually under siege in their own country. It is unfortunate that these views couldn't reach the mass in the pre-social media age.
This book will let you dive into the details on how the Hindu population was always undermined at the political level. It also exposes a bit on how Christian missionaries influence Indian politics even when they constitute a significantly lesser population. This is definitely not a book which is written for spreading hate, it just explains how other religions have hacked our democracy, keeping a major population unaware of the facts like religious conversion.
It also mention how a stable Indian state can be achieved and why it is important for minoritiy population to accept that their ancestors were all Hindus. This book is very concise, I would have loved if it would have been more detailed. It explains what can be a good roadmap to a nation which has a great history and documented information on how our a nation can be governed successfully. It also provide a lot of details on how Indian scientific knowledge has already been accepted at various international level and how we Indians kept copying even the failures of the western civilization without questioning it.
This book would definitely convince you to achieve a conclusion that why accepting Hindu values by every one living inside our international border is the only way to help save the country and most importantly a civilization which has a proven history of existence spanning over thousand of years.
"Hindu Under Siege" is very shortest but most informative book on issues about Hindus and Hinduism. This book highlighted the most burning topic of town where its compare the siege under Hindu community.
Why Should Every Indian read this book?
Most misinterpreted fact about this book is that it is related to Hindutva and expansion of hindutva identity amongst Hindus. But, This book is far beyond and above than this hindutva identity. This book share the facts from ancient times to till date in very short summery where it tried to show that why every Indian has a bit of Santana dharma in their nature irrespective of their religion, language and state.
its also state that why people of India should promote Hinduism. Hinduism mostly consider as equal to religion which is comes with social rule and regulation under restricted boundaries. while in this book Dr. swamy try to highlight open architecture of Hinduism which allow every kind of faith within boundary without dissolving their own culture and customs.
This book show how Indians are able to developed an culture which includes everyone and work as thread amongst Indian. But, if we have such homogenous but diverse cultural system, we have siege under this also.
Subramanian Swamy is extremely erudite and he has put across clearly the basic issues our motherland is facing today. The book teaches us to be proud of our rich magnificent history and the need to revive our past glory. The five fundamentals listed are absolutely necessary and needs to be inculcated by everyone associated with this great country.
A very well written book that puts the Hindustani history in perspective. While we are fast asleep, a lot is happening. This book enlightens us about it. Moreover, it does make us proud of Hindutva - a synonym for Patriotism/ Nationalism, breaking the myth that Hindutva is right-winged fanaticism.
his work really is an eye-opener. We all read from the news rails about various incidents that limit Hindu freedom and atrocities against them . However, Dr.Swamy brings to light the connections of these incidents and shows us the bigger picture which is much needed in today's world. His 'way out' listing possible solutions also talk about the realistic, executionable and practical solutions for the progress of the Hindus. I would suggest an intellectual mind to scan these facts for oneself and research - these facts are tested and proven. Hats off to Dr.Swami for this work
This book is a must read for every Indian - Hindus, Muslims and people of all over 5000 casts alike. Dr. Swamy makes some powerful suggestions to bring the barrier created between people of different casts down. He explains most plausible way to unite people of all the thousands of casts in India. He brings it to our awareness about the intentional distortion caused for terms like "Secularism" during 60 years of rule on India post independence. My respect for Dr. Swamy increased multiple folds after reading this.
The book clearly points out some of the most fundamental issues with the majority Hindu population of India. However it stops short of establishing a basic framework for a common Indian as to how to strive towards such a state. It has its opinion backed by the facts, and is not directed towards any community as is often alleged against Swamy.
The book is a good read. Points out some fundamental issues with India today. However in terms of a solution it doesnt provide one. Its more like a call to action for the masses. The onus is on the reader to research more and act accordingly.
This book was published in 2006. As I read it in 2024, Kashmir and Ladakh are now separate, and Article 370 has been revoked. Two of the issues raised by Swamy have been addressed.
In this book,Subramanian Swamy discussed about four dimensional siege of Hindus, one way secularism, demographic changes, terrorists attack,Joshua project ,false accusations against Hindu saints and the killing of Hindu activists, etc.
He also discussed Indian identity, heritage, economic reforms, defense, and language issues. He suggested having good relations with China but didn't explain how to achieve that. It's challenging to be friendly with a country that is eyeing the lands of all its neighbors.
There were a few points I disagreed with, but since the intentions were good, I will overlook them.Overall, this book offers valuable insights into national identity, integrity, security, and the role of Hinduism in these matters.
