Acho que em alguns momentos o autor é um pouco repetitivo e fala algumas obviedades... Ainda assim, é um bom guia para quem quer iniciar no mundo da ilustração e não faz ideia de como funciona ou para quem é um entusiasta e gostaria de saber sobre técnicas de ilustração. Agora, a parte que mais é importante neste livro são seus capítulos finais, onde Felix trata especificamente sobre o que é atuar como ilustrador, falando de precificação a dicas de ter uma rotina saudável sendo autônomo. Se não fosse por uma grande parte dedicada as técnicas de ilustração, acho que o livro seria bem melhor. Mas ainda indico como leitura!

Un libro muy interesante y educativo, ya que te habla de todo lo necesario (en plan básico) Para ser ilustrador, no solo técnicas, sino temas legales y morales. Me ha venido bastante bien para aclarar ideas últimamente.

This is a book for people that are serious about becoming an illustrator as a profession.
The first part is mostly a pep talk (that also happens near the end) and the realities of working in the field. On page 58 to 62 there are some quick tips about color and perspective. The second part is a bit of information about each material used to create illustrations with a bit of history in the middle. The last part is the longest and it consists of tips to start a career as an illustrator. It has information about pricing and how to gather clients, etc. Since my book was translated in Brazilian Portuguese these are tips according to Brazil. The examples of prices would be different for me, but that is not a fault of the book.
I must say that I thought this book would have more information about the process of creating an illustration, but that is not what it's about at all. However, I still found it interesting and I thought the idea of gathering a lot of artists with different styles to draw birds was really cool. I liked looking at all of the different styles and I liked knowing about the origin of the materials I use. Overall, I ended up enjoying it even though it wasn't really what I was looking for.

The illustrations in this book are awesome. If you happen to be an artist, especially one who frequently uses birds as a subject, owning a copy might be worth it just for the inspirational examples. As independent chapters the content isn't even bad. I am just perplexed as to who the intended audience would be? Half the book is a very high level introduction to creativity, basic technique, and various visual art mediums. The second half jumps to establishing your art business. I suppose if you woke up one morning, having never done any art before and said "I think I want to make a living doing art." This book might not be a bad place to start.

Leuk geïllustreerd. Bevat praktische info over materiaal, perspectief e. d. En hoe als freelancer aan de slag te gaan. Gebruikt fabels, beeldspraak, metaforen om boodschap over te brengen. En zienswijzen die je op andere vlakken in je leven kunt toepassen. Dus best een mooi en inspirerend plaatjesboek.

Неплохая книга. Много советов по делу. Есть описание разных материалов. Много слов о том, как поверить в себя и начать творить, а также о том, как ценить и продвигать себя в мире иллюстраторов. Но для меня книга ни стала, ни супер вдохновляющей, ни глубоко тронувшей, ни гипер-полезной.

I read this for the beautiful illustrations and illustration technique descriptions, but I read the business advice chapters out of curiosity. The entire book was detailed, well written and the advice for beginning illustrators seems pretty solid to me.

Книгу приятно читать и рассматривать, переводчик Юлия Змеева потрудилась на славу, сохранив живость и лёгкость речи автора (Феликс Шайнбергер говорит и объясняет максимально доступно, вы можете сами это услышать в его интервью и небольших роликах на YouTube). К тому же книга прекрасно структурирована самим автором, она логична и последовательна в своём повествовании. Мысль не скачет, а плавно переходит от темы к теме, постепенно раскрывая общий смысл. Это тоже делает «Рождение иллюстратора» книгой musthave.

Вне всяких сомнений эта книга будет полезна всем, кто обратится к ней: для кого-то это будет в первую очередь визуальная подпитка на основе всевозможных, неповторяющихся (!) техник иллюстраторов, которые собраны под её крылом. Другой ответит для себя на волнующие вопросы о начале построения карьеры, о портфолио и нюансах работы с агентами, коллаборациях с другими молодыми авторами и многом другом. Третий вспомнит о техниках и инструментах, про которые забыл в горячке потока собственных заказов и комиссий. Четвёртый найдёт в наставничестве совет, в котором нуждался, а пятый — просто получит эстетическое удовольствие от новой книги любимого автора, испытает прилив энергии и творческих сил и пойдёт «дорисовывать свой великий комикс».
