Seraphina locked her eyes with Magnus as the sheriff grabbed him by his arm and cuffed his wrists together. When he began to fight against the man, he clasped his hand around Magnus’ throat and Seraphina bowed her head at Magnus…inviting him in. “I can take care of this situation Magnus, you know I can.” She pleaded with him. “I know Sera, but they’ll kill you.” “These humans can not kill me,” she yelled at him. Even then the power she evoked was heard within her words. “I’m not talking about the human.” He warned her. “The Council needs to be taught a new lesson. Brother, let’s take this moment to change our world.” He just looked at her; the sheriff shook him by the throat as he yelled at the onlookers who had gathered around them all. “Please brother. I can’t let them kill you!” Her voice echoed inside his mind. He considered her words and closed his eyes in agreement. She had asked his permission to take on the world, and he had given it to her.
S.L. Perrine is a wife to a mechanic and mother of four crazy teenagers (3 are boys) who eat her out of house and home. Among writing, reading is another passion of hers. She also enjoys camping, fishing, and anything that means family time. During the summer she can be found at camp with her laptop by the pool. She and her family reside in Troy, NY.
“I write stories to fill the world with imagination for those who have a hard time finding their own.”
In a time when the Council forbade witches to use their magic under pain of death, after they attempt to kill members of her group, Seraphina leads an attempt to overthrow the Council. She becomes immortal and battles to keep order between good and evil.
This was an interesting story and the author has a distinct writing style, but it didn't quite work for me. To be honest, I didn't like the MC, Seraphina, so I think that may have played a part. Others seem to have enjoyed the book, however, so don't be put off from giving it a try for yourself.
I received a free ARC from the author and I am voluntarily giving an honest review.
My Five Star Review of: “Blood Rites” Book one Of the Blood Rites Trilogy Written by S.L.Perrine Seraphina’s story is a tale of vengeance, blood and death. Power is what all men crave. Seraphina is not a man, instead she is a young teenager in a time in history where witchcraft is the greatest fear by all the populace. A story rich in detail, steeped in subjugation and fear that controls the all the worst fears of the time period. The Witch. Powers of the devil and his unholy worship by practitioners of the occult… that’s the beliefs of the time period and setting of this tale. A town help in fear of the witch and all that’s needed is your name mentioned, your families name, a jealous husband or a spurned lover can all set into motion uncountable death of innocent and guilty. Seraphina is innocent of wrong doing but she also has untested powers and her family are equally auctioneers in magic, healing and the ways of earth energy. Seraphina’s family becomes known and targeted and so the setting of revenge and death both humans and witches are the result. Seraphina loses everyone she holds dear by those that fear powers they don’t understand. The ruling powers of the magic society in this time period and the mundane humans become her focus. Humans for what they don’t understand and the blind obedience and hatred associated. The ruling magic society for standing by and doing nothing as Seraphina lost everyone and everything and then for trying to punish Seraphina for her controlled rage and lust for violence. Seraphina’s powers grow and she gathers followers who of course are witches and warlocks of less power than hers. There is Romantic interests with Seth a young man who also is gifted and follows Seraphina and her group as they sweep through the countryside towns by towns. Then there is Magnus who loves Seraphina but also he lusts for power to use on his own terms. Seraphina cares about her flock of friends and followers so that humanity inside her is always at the surface. Seth is a good guy and he believes is Seraphina and supports her unflinchingly. Magnus seems like a good guy for most of the story and I was at odds with myself on who wanted Seraphina to end up with. This isn’t a wholesome love story nor is this a story about young love …this is a story of self-discovery, family whether blood or unrelated. This story is about power and corruption and Seraphina stays focused and tries to restore balance where it’s needed. Plenty of violence, emotional turmoil and historic imagery in a time seldom written about. This is also a quest for immortality only not to live forever instead to control magic that is often abused or misunderstood and thru this quest witches and humans alike are often involved as Seraphina seeks her goals and protects her flock.
My bad, surely, I couldn't get into this at all. The writing style was not for me, it didn't spellbind me into loving the story, wanting to know the characters, no, I laboured through it all. It's well written enough, just not in a style that I enjoy.
I really liked this book. It's about a group of young witches, led by the youngest of them, Seraphina, and her rise to power. Seraphina seeks revenge and justice in a time when witches are either killed or forced into hiding. She becomes the most powerful of all witches and is determined to set things right. Seraphina is willing to do ANYTHING and is not afraid to kill to make this happen as she and her friends set out on what seems to be an impossible mission. After all, they are just kids. But Seraphina is fearless and has a plan.
Blood Rites has everything. A fight for survival, good vs evil, violence, witches, humans, shifters, magic, friendship, love, loyalty, rivals, heart ache, and tragedy.
I will be waiting as patiently as I can for the second book of this trilogy. I have to see where this story goes.
I'm not sure why, but this book has an old world feel to it. The writing style reminds me of a classic such as Grimm's fairytales. It is dark and foreboding, yet has a sense of righteousness.
Throughout most of the story, I felt conflicted as to if the main character was truly good or moreover becoming dark as the old witch tales would have you believe.
This novel is weaved with magic and love, friendships and followers. It is a story of justice and how to rise above it.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel. The writing style is a bit different than what I'm use to, but that's the beauty of books. You can read a wide range of stories and appreciate them all.
I'd definitely read book 2 in this series.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Received an arc for an honest review. A teenage witch with tremendous power embarks on a mission of revenge against humans and witches alike. In an all male ruled coven where witches are punished for using their magic, Seraphina decides that change is needed and she intends to be the one who makes it happen.
So many twists, turns and surprises throughout this story. Read it in one sitting it was that good. Can't wait for the next book in this trilogy.
This is an amazing book in The Blood Rites Trilogy. Sera is a young witch who takes on her shoulders the lives of those she cares for. Being sentenced to death for crimes they have never committed, she is willing to kill those who hurt her and those of whom she cares for. Can any one child come out after something like this with their sanity and compassion still intact? She must look to the older boys that she is about to save to keep her from harming everyone and everything around. Magnus is her compass for such things, he is her voice of reason and she loves him so. This is a must read story that will have you turning pages to find out what happens next. Full 5 star rating because I couldn't put this book down. I had to know what was going to happen next. Gut wrenching at times, tears were shed and a few curse words may have flown, this book has it all.

How it all begins with Blood Rites. It is an amazing tale of Seraphina Crawford, a witch who at a young and tender age takes control and fights back against those that would destroy everything that she holds dear. But what is the price of power? Can one such as she wield it for the good of those she has taken under her wing? Or will the power corrupt everything that she is trying to protect? This is an epic tale that you won't want to put down. You will love these characters, yell, cheer and cry through out this tale. You're missing out if you don't read it. So if you like witches and shifters, get this book!!
Written by Amanda Pike Perrie... This book was not your usual take on witches and their plight in life. S.L. Perrine presented a strong female character, who waivered in her strength, but never lost sight of the greater good. Initially, the characters are difficult to connect with, but Perrine quickly builds this into the world she developed and I hope it continues in the stories to follow. I fell in love with Magnus!!! Definitely worth the read.
If you are into witches and warlocks then this book is for you. This is my first read by this author and I have to say that I look forward to more of her writings.
I loved this book. You had a great story line, love, revenge and many twists and turns. If you like witches and revenge this book is for you. I crave the sequel, The author drew me in and left me wanting more! What else can you ask for from a book.
