The series ends like it began - cold and lifeless, even rushed. It is a defining chapter for the people of New York, though. It's a struggle that they won't see because only a few key players participate in it, but it will change their lives. This is the part that will either free the people or maintain the status quo.

Parker van Gorn is a member of the resistence and the son of one of the men who govern the city. He used the only dose of the cure to make himself immune to the sun. Now he wants to give it to the rest of the city too, but he needs the underground to do it. He takes out the Conductor and gets the underground to cut the power to the city and to the blast doors. He wants to expediate the cure of the city, but his methods are anything but humanitarian - he gladly uses force to get his way.

Once again, editors do readers a disservice by not having a "previously in" page. That being said, the series ends pretty well but this volume was basically a sprint to the finish and it needed a breath. Kaplan created an interesting world with a lot of possibilities. Unfortunately, we only get a small slice of that. The character's development from the previous volumes slow down as the book felt rushed. The art was solid. Overall, an overly fast read that could have been more given more time.

Finished and I am glad of it. Bleak story, never felt anything for the characters, amateurish artwork.

I got his via the Top Cow 30th Anniversary Humble Bundle.
