Actual rating 2.5/5 stars. This is the third and final volume in the Evolution graphic novel series.

Human evolution happens slowly and over millions of years. Until now. Our species is beginning to alter at a rapid rate and very few individuals are actually aware of it. And those who do have far more to fear than just the disbelief of those in power.

I have given each of the two previous volumes three out of five stars but this final one disappointed me a little more, given that I had anticipated more of a solid conclusion to be delivered. Reveals were made and understanding conveyed, but also I think I was searching for a little something more, too.

Between each volume, forward motion of the plot was very limited and I felt the principal characters repeated their steps many times. I did really like the bones of the story but wish more scenes of high action had occurred to intersperse the ones were leaps in their understanding were being made. I believe it would have added some much needed tension, for me.

I also remained impressed as ever by the unique art style but still at a loss as to why it was specifically chosen here, when its dark tones and almost abstract style hindered understanding or my notice for small details.

Disappointing ending for this series, really felt like everything interesting about the story just petered out over the last few issues.

Rating 2 out of 5 | Grade: D-; I read it for the art

Finally, I somehow managed to get through that absolute slog fest. I tried, really tried to make sense of this meandering, contrived and convoluted story. But after pages and pages worth of dialogue bubbles which revealed nothing, and were getting more and more pretentious, I just gave up on trying to understand it.

Again, the one decent aspect about this series is its artwork, which in some panels is quite haunting and phenomenal. They really hit it out of the park when it came to the monster design. I felt sad for the guys who'd to sit down and color all that absurd number of dialogues in all the in between pages though.

The characters never once manage to connect with you, and they're just useless devices to expound exposition and dialogue. Nothing that happens makes sense or seem to amount to anything. By the end of it all, you're left with your head scratching and having wasted the better part of an afternoon.

Why is it that all of these trash titles show up on my reading list towards the end of the year.

Most definitely, will NOT recommend

Plague book diary 3 -

Yep, this is the last volume in the series and it ends with a resounding “meh”. It really has the air of either the publisher pulling the plug or the author having no idea where to take it, either way it feels unsatisfactory.

Is the evolution caused by the Earth itself? A mad cult? Is it just happening? As near as I can tell...all three? Rochelle evolves, and we get a chance to see what it is like to transcend...kinda? Abe either gets taken away by the cops or becomes surgeon general, the art (which has never been great tbh) is so bad I can’t tell. The nun finally learns to accept her newly evolved status, with some pretty cool panels, especially at “the feast”.

I just...meh. I didn’t hate it. Abe’s arc, as a crazy mad scientist Cassandra type, continues to be my favorite part, at least until the odd ending.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the Evolution series beyond some cool visuals and most Abe’s descent into madness.

Series started out okay, but went downhill. I have no idea what was happening in this volume, the art was rough and hard to figure out, and I really am still not sure what the heck I just read.

This is one of those series that could have been shortened into half the length and been a lot more enjoyable. In order to keep all three storylines running throughout eighteen issues, it often felt like you were being held hostage by minimal character development or progression. I would have been a lot more interested if we got more glimpses into the world and characters, rather than three very slowly developed main characters.

Review is for all three volumes read consecutively.

Never have a read a series that so thoroughly crawled up it's own ass.
Everything is platitudes and vague warnings and promises with no actual answers or endings.

Avoid.
