Stopped at 25%.
My reasoning:
-Language: d**n, h*ll, s**t, God's name in vain, and I skimmed ahead a bit and saw a f-bomb.
-Tons of two characters lusting after each other. Too explicit for my personal tastes.
I also wasn't getting into the characters much. The writing style also felt a bit simplistic.

I’ve been a fan of Marion Kummerow for quite some tie now and was pleasantly surprised when she announced the release of her first WW2 romance - “Second Chance at First Love.” I bought it right away and it certainly didn’t disappoint - I read it in one sitting!
In July 1945, Stan returns from a POW camp to his farm in Poland only to find it burnt to the ground. Having lost most of his family and a leg, he initially plunges into self-pity and desperation, drowning his sorrows in vodka. But when a familiar face appears on his doorstep - Agnieska, who’s also lost all of her family to the camps and nearly perished herself - he suddenly sees hope in her green eyes…
It’s not your usual romance. It’s bitter-sweet, with broken characters desperately trying to mend their broken lives. But that’s what makes it so good; it doesn’t read like a fairytale but more like a story that I’m sure could have easily happened anywhere in war-ravaged Europe. It’s that authenticity that strikes the deepest chords of your soul as you read. I only hope that Marion will write more of such romances in the future - this one was definitely a five-star success!

Great Post-War Romance
I met Stan in an earlier book. It was good to read this story about his experiences after the war. I'm sure his anger and difficulty accepting his situation was typical of what so many men in Europe who survived the war experienced. This book left me with a strong sense of the horror of war beyond what takes place in the battlefield. Stan's sister-in-law also experienced her hardships as she dealt with losing all her immediate family. Since this took place in Poland, the people returning home also were forced to deal with new oppressors, the communists, that replaced the Nazis.
Although this book is part of a series, it reads well as a stand-alone novel. It is a must-read.

Another Great Book!
This story is all too common for those who lived through the horrors of WWII. Not knowing who if any of your family members survived. Not knowing if you'll have a home to go home to. Too many unknowns. The scars of those imprisoned, both physical and psychological, are now a part of life. This story walks you through how one couple came together after losing so much in the war. A great storyline and characters!

Extra for War Girls series
Really good read....had to get use to the different kind of novel from the War Girls. It was the same Great Writing and always had some surprises!! Glad I took the time to read it!!

Poland after WW II
Loved the History and events after the end of the war. Things didn't change much for the Poland's and Jew's who managed to survive the horrendous events.

A beatiful love story of a young Polish couple who faced hard times. They both helped each other that brought out the best each in each other.

The only one of Marion Kummerow's books that i did not give 5 stars.It was still a very good read,but i thought the sexual content went to far,which i thought was unusual for this author.
