World Before: A Collection of Stories is book five in The Ending Series by Lindsey Pogue and Lindsey Fairleigh. I have been completely obsessed with this series from the start. This was a perfect addition to the series giving us glimpses of the character’s lives “before” The Ending.

The world was forever changed. A virus that was unleashed killed off most of the world’s inhabitants. Anyone still remaining had abilities they weren’t aware of before. Zoe Cartwright was an empath. But in addition to that, she could see people’s memories. She would never share these private memories with anyone else but she felt they needed to be saved for future generations. By writing them down in a journal, it gave her an outlet, a way to unburden herself of all of the emotions she felt by carrying around other people’s memories.



You will learn how the death of Gabe’s little sister propelled him into an obsession with medicine. A brief look at Daniel Grayson’s life as a teacher at Bodega Bay High School. A look into Dustin Harper’s life before he entered the military. A look into a small part of Dr. Anna Wesley’s life, a time that was both happy and devastating. I want to note that this was probably my favorite and broke my heart. A look into Carmen Sanchez’s life that was also heart breaking. A look at Chris’s life. A road trip for Dani and Zoe right after high school graduation. And, a look at Jason’s life.



All of these brief glimpses into these people’s lives before the Ending happened just makes me love them more than I already do. These are all characters I have grown to love over the course of this series. And there is a little hint at the next companion book to this series which will be called World After. I am so very happy that Lindsey P. and Lindsey F. are doing this. I am not ready to say good-bye to these characters yet. They have all become so real to me.



I want to add that this companion book needs to be read after you have read The Ending Series. I was afraid I would have trouble remembering the characters but they all came back to me pretty easily. If you haven’t read the series, give it a try. I hope you fall in love with it as I did. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

WORLD BEFORE by Lindsey Pogue and Lindsey Fairleigh only makes their characters more human, more real and more alive. Using brief glimpses, histories come alive, and we find there is more to these characters than met the eye throughout the series. Once again, this creative writing team has nailed bringing their stories and their characters to life!

Every ending has a beginning. This is the first line of the blurb describing The Ending Series: World Before. It's so simple, yet says so much. It's the perfect intro. The Ending Series by the Lindsey's is one of the best apocalyptic series ever written in my opinion. The story is multi-layered; it is startling in it's simplicity and possibility. The characters are so complex, so likable. It's an addictive series. This book is it's before and after. The story is being told by Zoe, one of the original survivors. She is an empath, but not only can she feel other's emotions, she can see their memories, and get a sense of who they are. This is a burden that she can't share, so she begins to keep a journal. The journal is a glimpse into who the early survivors were. The men, women, and children who lived through the ending and started the world back up again. Through Zoe's words, we get to experience life before the ending and a bit of the new beginning. It was wonderful to revisit the beloved characters, Zoe, Dani, and Jason from the original books. I love these three! It was equally good to get snapshots of side characters and others we lost along the way. Truly, this was an unexpected gift, these peeks back at the before and at the early days. It's a reminder of how much I loved the series. The excerpts from Zoe's journal ended all too soon, but left me with a sweet anticipation.

I loved this book!. It was perfect, I just wished it was longer. It made me want to read the series all over again. I hate spoilers, so I won't share any. Read it. Then read the series again or for the first time. It's worth it. Thank you Lindsey & Lindsey!

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is possibly the shortest review I have ever written. I absolutely enjoyed this novel. I felt as though I was able to connect with the characters better knowing their stories of Before.
I can't say if I have a favorite part and I do not intend to do any spoilers.

Again, shortest review ever!

Do I recommend? Yes, I recommend after completing the series.
Final thoughts: sobbing my eyes out and smiling like a girl who got her favorite treat

This is a must have for all fans of the ending series! It was awesome and gave a lot of background information into a lot of my favourite characters. It was witty, charming, serious and little funny at times. It actually got me reminiscing a little bit about my past and some of the cool things that I’ve done and some of the not so cool things… if you really want to treat yourself listen to the audiobook. Team Lindsay was consistent and they got the same narrator to do all five books and she does not disappoint. It was simply awesome, I was drawn right back in to the world they have created after the first line. Just something about that voice and the boys that she gives all the characters. A wonderful addition to series. You get a really good look at what the life before the ending was for our main characters. Great writing and flawless narration. At this point you have invested a lot into the characters so these glimpses into their past really give the whole series more meaning. Don’t forget girls will be girls

This was an enjoyable read, it is the 5th book in the Endings series. I love the well developed characters I have grown to love through the series. We get a peek of what life was like before the ending. Some of the background we had gotten before, some with more details. Some were new in this book, all were well thought out and delivered to the readers to make the series more enjoyable if that were possible.
I love both these Authors with all my heart. I am a true blue horror fan and these ladies have also developed books as individuals that has expanded my view and enriched my reading pleasure in genre’s I wouldn't normally be drawn to. Check out the After the ending series as well as their individual works, you will not be disappointed.

I loved this! It's Zoe journal where she writes down memories she's seen since they're just trapped inside her head and she can't talk about them. Well she could but that would just be awkward for them.
It was so nice seeing memories from before the world went to crap with a little bit of what's happening after the series ended. However I wasn't expecting that ending! I'm sure it means there's more books to come.

This was an interesting book to read about the characters before the Ending series started, but I felt that it could have been included within the original story to begin with. I have never been a fan of a series of books, stories, or movie that then go back to explain what should have been the first one to sbegin with.

This recounting of various characters’ memories through Zoe’s wise eyes are intense and layered in the BEST ways possible!!! Such an intimate journey into the minds and insights of sooo many characters!!! LOVED IT!!:-)

Fabulous storylines for Before The Ending! I genuinely felt for each and every one of the characters written about in this book. As it says, it's a collection of stories, short ones, of various interesting characters in The Ending series. It was quite satisfying to know a little bit more about each one! Now, I can't wait for World After!! Time to get readin'!!

I listed to the audio on the authors podcast, Read By The Author with Lindsey Sparks. I really liked listening to it from both author's voices, they each read the part that they wrote. I have not read anything else in the series, but this made me add them to my TBR to check them out. The world building and characterization was really well done and it got me excited to dive into this new world.
