Megan is a long time resident of queer romance and keeps herself busy reading and writing it. She is often accused of fluff and nonsense. When she’s not involved in writing, she likes to cook, harass her wife and cats, or watch movies. She loves to hear from readers and can be found all over the internet.
12/2/2018- Could have been a cute short story but the wording killed it for me. The main character is Jaya a guard for the king. He refers to the king as him and he but refers to himself as they, them, and their. As if he's more than one person. It was so damn ANNOYING and therefore I hated this even though I usually love Megan Derr......
This was a super short (only ~10 pages) MX story which I found as it originated a meme/plot idea 😌. I didn't even realise & I'd completed it in like 10min 🤣.
It's in 3rd person POV, Jaya is King Akhil's bodyguard. The lonely king loves food & sweets, so this time he asks his loyal & dear bodyguard for taste tasting! Yeah, that's it— it's bonus 😂 sized. It's cute, with (seemingly) mutual crushes.
This was my intro to the author & it's cool that MCs' names are Indian (like me). Everyone else uses he/she but Jaya (while a female name, coincidence?) uses they/them & I hate that other readers had issue with that. Only couple lines are confusing & even then easily understood by context (while yes, 1st person POVs are better for it). I loved the genderfluid/enbi rep ❤️.
I wonder if this will get expanded. I got it for #free on #smashwords! I didn't expect it on #Goodreads but cool it is, helped my reading challenge 😆.
Second, while this was cute, it was really just way to be considered anything but a vignette. I would have loved to see this expanded upon like with The High King's Golden Tongue. This would have made a lovely short story.
Third. I don't think I've read a book with a character that uses they/them/their pronouns. I have read ze/zir before and would have preferred that, because the use of "they" pronouns in this short scene was confusing at first, as the way it was used wasn't clear if they was a singular or plural persons.
Short, sweet & cute. Quite good too, the only reason I didn't give more stars is because it's a tease. Gets an appetite all worked up, now where's the rest of the book? Because I would so read more about these two ... if only there was more. 3 and a half stars.
It's tiny. It's sweet. And it's thoroughly enjoyable. Took me less than five minutes to read. Free on amazon, so it costs you nothing to see if I'm right.
This really is best described as a tiny bite of sweet! With some very cute and innocent flirting over some delicious cake, it was a simple and sweet little read that is well worth the time!
