Whimsy is thrilled to finally have her Ph.D. in marine biology behind her, and she’s celebrating with her sorely neglected boyfriend and a couple other friends by spending the day kayaking. What starts out as a beautiful, relaxing day soon turns ugly when a sudden, violent storm separates her from her friends, her kayak and her life vest and washes her up on the shore of an unpopulated island. As Samson and his dogs find Whimsy and nurse her back to health, Whimsy realizes she’s stumbled on to something much bigger than herself and far outside her realm of experience that defies logical explanation. There’s the matter of someone shooting at Whimsy, the strangers lurking around the island, and Samson's brother, Jamie, who prefers to spend more time in the ethereal world than the physical one and insists Whimsy is a pivotal part of whatever is happening on the island.

If there’s one thing this author does well, it’s mystery and suspense. I don’t read much paranormal these days, but this book grabbed me from the first page and I couldn’t read fast enough to find out what was going to happen to these characters. There were twists and turns I never saw coming and, as much as I tried, I had no idea who was behind everything until all was revealed. Settle in and hold on tight. This is one breathtaking, exhilarating ride you absolutely don’t want to miss!

4.5 breathtaking stars.

Psychic Visions series by Dale Mayer is my fav series from her, so I was super excited with this book and it totally delivered, I can't put it down from the first chapter and because I have a bit of Aquaphobia, the fear is so intense and real, so frightening, it's like I'm drowning too, which makes this book an awesome read. Yup, I love everything, amazing unique lovable characters, amazing deep sea creatures, amazing supernatural power, and amazing story, although I wished the bad guy got more punishments and more of those creatures, it feels like there should be more chapters, I really don't want the story to end, but overall I really love it.

If you're looking for a suspense paranormal read, this one is perfect for you.

Good, but not the best in the series

I didn't love this book as much as others in the series, it was only really the last couple of chapters when everything began pulling together that I enjoyed it. Before this the book felt quite disjointed, which is unusual for this series, I also found the plot a bit of a stretch. However Whimsy and Samson are great characters, they have their quirks, their strengths and their weaknesses, but they are relatable. Whimsy can be a little abrupt at times, but I like her for this and it is certainly what Jamie needs. It also opens Samson's eyes and shows him just how much he enables Jamie and his behavior.
Whilst I don't think this is one of the best in the series, I will be reading the next book and look forward to more Stefan and Dr Maddy.

Kinda fizzled at the end there. Same issue as before with lots of exposition, very slow burn romance with a hero that's even slower to warm up to, and a lot of what happened was poorly explained or just not explained at all. I would almost call this a cliffhanger because things are left so unresolved, but the author clearly intended for it to be an ending so... pfft. She can do way better than this.

After 15 books you would think that She would not be able to come up with something different every time but she still does. Every book has unique psychic powers. So much so that I get lost sometimes but I still love this series.

Extreme!

The fabulous imagery of what is beneath the surface of Puget Sound is fantastic. It had me holding my breath right along with Whimsey! It also had me scared out of my mind!

This is full of suspense and intrigue. Each question into the events surrounding Whimsey’s horrific drowning, miraculous rescue, and being found by two huge dogs, creates more unanswered questions and mystery all around. The sixth sense Samson and his dogs, King and Queen, have is eerie but fascinating.

I found this story very intense and, yet I felt saddened by Whimsey’s fear of the water she grew up loving so much. Who knows what lurks under that massive, dark, unknown world, ready to chase you as prey or bump you in curiosity. What really happened to Whimsey that day Kayaking? The storms that are usually an exciting wonder for Whimsey, turn into a cold, thrashing, deadly fight for her life. What happened to her fiancé during that storm? These many questions keep me hungry for more information into what happens on this secluded little island.

I enjoyed the psychic interaction between these characters, more so between Whimsey and Samson’s brother, Jamie. There is also the heartwarming relationship Samson has with his staff and how protective they all are of each other and now Whimsey, even the dogs are eager to protect her.

A very well-rounded thriller. You taste the fear that the ocean brings under its dangerous depths which escalates when you get a look into a drowning person’s desperate struggles and try to interpret what goes through their mind at that time. This fear soon turns into relief and happiness as you try to figure out what just happened, but this author doesn’t let you dwell in one place too long before taking you into a whole different direction with the island itself being under threat of destruction.

I enjoyed the journey for Whimsey and Samson to realize that they have so much in common and can almost read each other’s thoughts! This story gave me goosies and I can’t wait for the next one in this series!

I have read all of the Dale Mayer series and the Psychic Visions is one of my favorites. That being said this wasn’t one of my favorite books in the series. In this book Whimsy is celebrating getting her PhD by going out on the sound Kayaking. While Whimsy is getting caught up in a storm and drowning, Samson hears voices calling him to go out to the beach where he finds and resuscitates Whimsy. There’s something strange occurring in the sound with the frequency and strength of storms. Samson and Whimsy work together to determine the cause. Personally, I would have liked it if there was more psychic activity in the plot, but that didn’t diminish the story line. I enjoyed reading this book even if it wasn’t my favorite in the series.

This is one of those stories that once you finish reading, you have to stop and breathe. The thing is the tale is not all that far-fetched with today's technologies and frankly is downright scary.

Whimsy Connor, our heroine, is a newly minted PhD. She's out kayaking with her fiancé Mark and another couple of friends to unwind before deciding her next step. That's when all the chaos begins.

A violent squall hits the sound, and no matter how hard Whimsy tries she can't seem to make it to shore. She loses the kayak and then her lifevest in the turbulent waters. Then the unusual happens, something helps her and she's hearing voices.

On his private island, Dr. Samson Cartwright not only has a lab where he is studying some strange occurrences within the sound, but it is also his retreat from the boardroom and the city. His dogs King and Queen are as much part of the island as they are his home. The storm has messed with his satellite connections, causing him to stop his work. It's the sudden pain and screaming in his head that has him running into the storm with the dogs.

As Whimsy recovers there are more strange occurrences, and when they head back to the mainland things intensify.

So much in this book, from theft, to abilities that aren't easy to explain. As Whimsy's memories return, there is also an unknown entity.

Her meeting Jamie was fortuitous for Samson, and the relationship between the three of them is both interesting and informative. Although the growing emotions between Samson and Whimsy are destined to become romance.

I am loving this series, and I can't wait to see what Dale comes up with next. I'm beginning to think her mind is a very scary place to be.

This was a tough book for me to get through, but I was determined to finish. It was an interesting premise, being able to communicate with ocean mammals telepathically and with other humans in the same manner. But, unfortunately, it wasn't compelling enough for me to want to read other books in this series.

Unlike other books that I have read by this author, the writing style was overly verbose. Calling food "foodstuff", continually calling cutting a slice of bread as "cutting a slab", and other awkward and clunky phrasing. Also frustrating was how cryptic, angry, and non-communicative the H was and how the h just took all of the weird stuff happening in stride, immediately knowing exactly the words to use or the action that needed to be taken. After finding out her fiance was not the person she thought he was, there was about a paragraph of her being upset and then not seeming to care for the rest of the book.

Also, for the life of me, I couldn't physically describe any of the main characters other than the fact that the h had blond hair.

I wish that I could give this book a glowing, 5-star recommendation, but a reluctant 3-star is all that I can give. And the only reason that I dated it that highly is that I like the idea that there are many ways to communicate other than written, physically, or verbally and that communication with other species could be possible.

Having completed her PhD Whimsy has an incident when kayaking in the shores outside Seattle which puts her into a coma type state where she has repeated nightmares repeating the sensations and event of her drowning in the water. She wakes up on a remote island with a strange male saviour, two unique dogs and lots of voices and sounds that she keeps hearing. Nothing makes sense to her. Samson, heard the cry to save a woman washed up his island shore and he has no clue that she is going to have a massive impact on both his and his brother's lives. Everything gets far more complicated when they discover a research group that have been illegally conducting experiments on the tectonic plates that are giving unexpected consequences deep beneath. Can Whimsey and Samson solve all the mysteries and fix everything that is affected?

Wow - this is a powerful story that describes so many different things in the one book. First, you get the slow burn love story between Whimsey and Samson. Then all the psychic involvement and the impact on the ocean and creatures within it by the experiments. Then the various betrayals involved between some of the players in the story and the development of interaction between Samson and Whimsey and Samson's brother. A very enjoyable story that was very easy to read and gives a message on the environment that we should all be heeding. Well written and very easy to understand and feel the thoughts and emotions of the characters.

JANUARY !!!!!!! I KEPT myself from reading anything but the blurb...

First of all, allow me to introduce myself, Karen McTyeire, addict of Dale Mayer books!
Seals, but most of all, her psychic visions series! I was an addict from Tuesday's Child, and not a single one of the psychic visions books has not kept me entranced, fascinated, or reading from beginning to end!
This author keeps you rivited as if nailed to your seat, with tablet hitting 10%, and threatening to shut down.
Most importantly, all her themes have reality scarily involved!
If you have ever experienced something you do not understand, these books, amazing novels, will shed some light for you. I personally have read and learned so much since Tuesday's Child, with Physic friends and communities I have be one involved in, Ms Mayer , reminds me, it's time to stop letting myself block. (Losing my husband and saying goodbye while lucid dreaming blocked me for many years.)
The time has come to figure out how to deal with the pain and loss....
In the meantime this series reminds me, that not only am I using only 10% of my brain, but less, because pain is important to blocks!


Yes, Ms. Mayer, I already have pre-ordered "ASHES...." one day I would simply
love to spend an afternoon just talking to you. You have a truly amazing mind!

When Whimsy drowns in a storm while kayaking, she ends up washed up on a beach on an island that is inhabited by Samson. He saves her life and when she comes to she can’t remember much of her past. As she gains her strength and Samson nurses her back to health, she has to return to the mainland to get her affairs in order as her memory surfaces. But there’s something about her drowning and her abilities that others take notice....can Samson protect her.
A good read with a bit of steam and a build up to their passion, with twists and turns that kept me engaged. I was a bit confused at times such as what does Samson’s brother have to do with the story, as well as the back and forth with Samson, he wants her to stay, no he doesn’t, yes he does etc, and even though some of the descriptions were spot on and I could see and feel what the characters did, there was something missing about the characters especially Samson and Whimsy, no real in depth descriptions on them and I didn’t feel connected to them. Otherwise it was a good read and I liked the plot of man messing with nature that could lead to catastrophic events...not far fetched or fiction in my opinion.

I read most of "Deep Beneath" while sailing in the Mediterranean sea, and the combination of the scenic descriptions in the book and the real waves surrounding me resulted in a memorable experience.
The ocean is depicted as a living, breathing entity; mysterious and powerful, it is, in my opinion, the leading character of the book.
The psychic experiences of the protagonists are a perfect match to it, and, together, give a unique and evocative atmosphere to the narration.
The storyline is articulate and rich, with a numerous and diverse cast of characters, most of them with a vivid, and never obvious, personality.
In particular, I liked the character of Whimsy, the female protagonist, smart and generous; strong enough to deal with a sequence of difficult circumstances while embracing with an analytical mind her newly discovered psychic abilities.
Many of the other characters deserve mention: Samson, the serious and responsible brother, Jamie, his sensitive and rebellious sibling, Heather and Ned, Samson faithful and affectionate work partners and, finally, Stefan and Dr. Maddie, who never fail to make a welcome appearance in this series.

Wow, just wow!

Psychic Visions books are like giant chocolate bars to me. I know I should portion out the treat to make it last longer, but once I take that first bite, I am driven to devour the whole thing because it’s just too good to stop until I’m all finished. Plus, it’s always great to reconnect with Stefan (Book 7, Eyes to the Soul) and Dr. Maddy (Book 3, Maddy’s Floor), while we get acquainted with Dr. Whimsy and Samson.

Deep Beneath resonates with anyone who has had a close relationship with a family member who is mentally ill, who has experience with or fear of drowning, who has been rescued from a deadly situation, and/or who escapes the busy work world by going to the equivalent of a private island in the middle of nowhere. Did I leave anyone out? Oh, yes, and anyone who is interested in marine biology and the environmental impact of greedy humans who put money and notoriety ahead of the health of our oceans and the creatures who live there. Wow, huh? Read this book. It’s amazing, frightening, and very enlightening.

I have all of the Psychic Visions books and have been very happy up to now. This one has problems.

The good: the premise and the underwater descriptions. Great idea, and the underwater scenes pull one right into the intensity.

The bad: A main character that's supposed to be so connected to the sea (nature) and she's completely ignorant of the strange weather patterns she's about to go kayak in? She fails to check her safety gear? She "wants to stay light" so she fails to carry basic ID or any emergency notification means except the one on the life jacket she failed to check for safety?

The ugly: The H can't be bothered to explain why he's so surly, yet she's happy to just hang around, anyway. When she finds out her ex-fiance was such a dirtbag, she's broken hearted for less than half a page and still doesn't feel endangered from his actions. If she's supposed to be the main character, she does not come across that way. She rarely becomes involved in all the psychic phenomena, until near the end, and even there it's so subtle that one wonders why she's important to the story at all.

I will not be re-reading this one.

Whimsy, Samson, Jamie all with gifts. Interesting and original.

Whimsy Connor just got her PhD in Marine biology and celebrates by going kayaking on the Puget Sound. When a storm comes in, and she and her fiance get caught up in it. But her fiance Mark makes it to shore she is taken out to sea and drowns. She is found by Samson Cartwright on the beach on his private island. He gives her CPR and she lives. While trying to keep her alive he finds that she has been shot in the shoulder and the side of her head and wonders who would want to kill her. Samson is also a Marine biologist with psychic gifts along with his younger brother Jamie. while he is taking care of her he gets in touch with Stefan. Whimsy is just learning that she has abilities while her memory comes back. They need to find out who would want to kill her and why. I'm not going to give anything away. This story is original, mysterious, exciting, dangerous with a little romance thrown in. I really love the theme of this book and the characters. It's a great read. 5 stars.

I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. This is book 15 of 16 in the Psychic Visions series.

With this series it’s not critical to read previous books in the series (although I cannot understand why a reader wouldn’t want to; as each book is wonderful.) Hands down the best series written by Ms. Dale. I always look forward to each new Psychic Visions release, just to see what Ms. Dale came up with. (The previous book I thought would be creepy, (spiders) but it truly wasn’t)

I’ll admit it took me longer than usual to find my groove with this book. I’m unsure of an absolute reason other than the book felt “scattered” for the first 8-10 chapters. I did enjoy the storyline (would have loved more interaction between Whimsy and the wonderful sea creatures; I think it would have added quite a bit more interest and tied things together better.)

The story evolved well and was as expected with this series, terrific.

Dr. Whimsical “Whimsy” Connor went kayaking with some friends after she earned her PhD. She loved the water, but on this particular day...the water didn't seem to love her...or did it? That little trip turned into a life-changing experience for her.

Samson Cartwright loved his work and his island. Lately, something was happening though. The weather, the ocean, other things...something wasn't right. And then, he finds a woman on the beach and everything changes. And then there's his younger brother who he really needs back on the island.

The connection between Whimsy and Samson and this island is comfortable...it feels like home. But something is calling for her to help and she plans on doing her best to figure it out. Figure out who she is. Another page-turning story in this series.

Celebrating her newly received PhD, Whimsy goes out kayaking in the Seattle sound with her fiancé, Mark, and a couple friends. The friends return early but Whimsy and Mark continue on and get caught in a squall. Whimsy ends up coming out of her kayak and losing her life vest but something from deep beneath saves her. She winds up on a beach of a private island owned by Samson. Samson hears voices telling him he has to get to the beach where he finds his two dogs already pulling her up out of the water. When Whimsy comes out of her coma, she doesn't remember everything but it turns out she was shot twice. Samson and Whimsy must work together because there's a mystery affecting the sound itself that'll take both of them to solve.

I love the Psychic Vision series and Dale Mayer certainly keeps it fresh. I highly recommend this book. It's well-written with believable characters and lots of twists and turns. The story draws you from the beginning and holds your interest throughout.

Let me start by saying I love Dale Mayer and i have read all the previous books in the psychic visions series. But this book .... what the H...? It is like it is written by somebody else. The only reason i gave it 3 stars is because the topic was very intriguing which kept me going. But i could not connect or even like any of the characters in the book. Normally Dale sucks me in immediately and makes the characters maybe not always equally likeable but at the least they feel like real people. The characters in this book, were empty shells. Almost of the writer could not make up her mind where she wanted to go with them.
I'm not going to discuss any event in the storyline, everthing felt out of synch with this story. I cross my fingers in the hope the next book will be back to the same level of all the previous book. Would i recommend this book .... NO! But i would recommend all the previous books in the series.

Whimsy, what a darling name but the story is anything but whimsical. She (Whimsy) went on a kayaking trip to relax and refresh her brain after applying and receiving her PhD in marine biology. An incident leaves her unconscious washed up on the shore of a private island. As she regains her senses she is now dealing with much more than the supposedly peaceful trip she started. She now was faced with the unique man who saved her, his two interesting dogs, a mystery surrounding her accident, the aftermath, unexplained forces, possible testing on the tectonic plates and she doesn't know who to trust anymore. The addition of the possible effect on marine life is extremely interesting and scary as well. The story also deals with complex family, friends and associates relationships. Well done!

Whimsy has now made it. She has her doctorate and wants to relax out on the sound kayaking. A reward for all her hard work. What starts as a day of sun and fun becomes potentially deadly when a storm blows up and the wind and waves, make it so hard to get to shore and to shelter. Her friends had turned back and her fiance was too far away to hear her as she struggled against the rain, waves and trying to keep the kayak from capsizing. Then it does!
I do not do spoilers. This book is another great story in the Psychic Visions Series. These books are great. I have been hooked on the author and her books since I started reading them several years ago. I have yet to read one of Dale Mayer books that were bad.

Although this is book 15 it’s still a lone book but has some of the other characters in from the other books like Dr Maddy and Stefan. Whimsy is now a Dr after getting her PhD and to celebrate she goes off kayaking with two other friends and her fiancé. But tragedy strikes as storm comes out of nowhere and she drowns. On an island Samson is the sorting scientist who owns it but as part of the deed he needs to protect it. He sees a girl washed up on the shore and saves her life. What we see from here is a huge mystery and suspense as we read about whimsey’s struggles of finding out who she is, that some of her life was a lie and greater things are needed to be worked out. As an act of betrayal is hard to swallow will the heroes survive the turmoil and nutty professor? A great strong cast of characters and I loved the connection whimsey seemed to have with things around herself.

Dale Mayer’s Psychic novels are always excellently different. They’re always touching psychic issues that not really far-fetched from our daily experience, making them believable to an extent and relatable.

This time, Deep Beneath touch ‘hearing visions’. How a voice inside your head might lead you to something. As this was not only fiction, it’s also psychic, you have to be open minded to enjoy the book. There’s mystery, suspense, thriller, romance… basically everything I love in a book was in Deep Beneath. The feeling of suspense was so intense, I had to put it down few times to take a breath. In the end, it was an enjoyable journey. Looking forward to more books in Psychic series.

Deep Breath is one of Dale Mayer’s “Psychic Visions” novels. This book starts with an enormous event. Whismy and her fiancé are kayaking in waters in the Seattle area when they are caught in a gigantic storm. The description of Whimsy’s near-drowning is explicit, realistic and spellbinding.

Whimsy is rescued by Samson who has a lab on an isolated island. He nurses her until he is able to take her back to the mainland. The dynamic between these two characters is captivating as their personalities emerge and slowly change.

When they return to the mainland, they discover a mystery that involves Whimsy, her ex-fiancé, Samson, his brothers and some illegal activities that go far beyond all of them.

The characters and the mystery will grab your attention until the very end!

Whimsy's celebration out on Puget Sound didn't go as she planned. Whimsy was saved from dying from drowning by something deep beneath the waters. Whimsy was rescued by Samson, a rich marine biologist and businessman who studied the migration patterns and lived on an island. Something was happening that was affecting the weather and the waters around the island. I received a free copy of this book from the author through Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This series is my favorite from Dale Mayer. This book like the other in the series contains mystery, a little romance, suspense, and psychic abilities. I love that the Whimsy had a strong affinity and tie for the mammals in the ocean. This is an excellent read.

I have not read all the Psychic Visions, I have them all and have enjoyed the ones I read. This one with Jamie, Samsons younger brother was a tad difficult for me, and it shouldn't be, look at all Stefan can do. Maybe because of Jamies petulance. Rock on Whimsy, even with all you have been through you grabbed the bull by the horns and dealt. There is mystery that is dealt out in micro steps. I wanted to yell, come on - share some more. There is suspense and romance. Putting aside the paranormal, stop and think, what is happening to our oceans, all the drilling and testing going on. That's just the ones we know about. OMG.. this book was amazing!! I tried to put it down a couple of times to get some sleep, but that didn't work out at all hahahaha.
Within two minutes of starting to read, I was hooked.
Dale Mayer is a brilliant story teller and you can't help but be taken on the journey along with the characters in her books. This one was just as captivating as all the other Psychic Vision books.
Whimsy, or rather Dr. Whimsy Connor is on a kayaking trip after completing her PhD in Marine Biology.. Then the roller coaster ride begins, and you're taken for a suspense filled ride with her.
I was hitting the page flip button like a maniac to see what was going to happen next. Amazing book that I will definitely read again!
