Mutsuki be getting on my nerves, he’s literally the epitome of, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” I can’t wait for the next one!!

Tokyo Ghoul manga is my favorite manga and I'm absolutely weak for this story, these characters and the artwork.
As it's already vol. 14, I'm not going to give any specific details. Just my gushings and ramblings.

Chapter 145- 149 were rather lukeworm (worm you see what i'm doing here haha), but than the plot picked up and the last chapters were intense and perfect, I cannot wait for the next volume. So the first chapters were 3 stars and the second half of the volume was 4.5-5 stars, so 4 stars average for the volume feels fair.
Sui Ishida never fails to blow my mind and what he's doing with this various arcs... It's tragic and beautiful and I love it.

My (sometimes) incoherent thoughts and feelings on each chapter:

I cannot wait for the next volume!!!

An absolutely insane WTF turn of events. I cannot believe this series. It’s amazing. Also Ishida’s paneling and art is so goddamn good that it hurts. The emotion on faces and beautiful destructive art is just so impressive!

In the sequel series to Tokyo Ghoul, Haise Sasaki has been tasked with teaching his special squad of half-ghouls how to be outstanding Investigators, but this is complicated by the troublesome personalities of his subordinates and his own uncertain grasp of his Ghoul powers. Will he and the members of his squad become heroes or monsters, taken out by the other squads in the Commission of Counter Ghoul...?!

Ken is the dragon. The city is systematically being destroyed and everyone is mobilizing, trying to figure out what to do. How do they stop this ghoul monster? That is the central question in this volume. Different parties work on methods even as the CCG and the ghouls make a big decision about their future.

The art is really stellar and is a must to really get the effect of the dragon on the city. I am totally confused about who many of the characters are working on what to do. They weren’t familiar to me. However we get a big battle over the dragon between Ken’s new wife and the “boy” who wanted to be with Ken. That really made up for the character confusion earlier.

Tokyo Ghoul: re vol 14 changes things up once again! It’s shocking and makes a bridge between enemy groups to save a city. If you love Tokyo Ghoul it’s not too late to catch up on the sequel series!

Che intensità. E il primo capitolo è stupendo e intenso. E poi ricompare .
In un certo senso a me Hide piace.

Aaaaahhhhh!!! This was a phenomenal instalment which had me feeling ALL the emotions!

In this volume, Kaneki turns into this gigantic centipede thingy - it’s all creepy and gross and bloody terrifying! *hides* and this happens just when Touka is pregnant with Kaneki’s child!

Elsewhere we discover that scarecrow is actually HIDE!!! My mouth dropped when I found out but I’m soooooooo glad he’s back <3

But what’s most heartening of all is that we see the goat ghouls and the CCG joining forces in their quest to save Kaneki!!

There is treachery and deceit along the way and there’s Mutsuki trying to f*ck it all up at the end!!

A fantastic instalment! I loved it!

I like how this volume is focused on the supporting characters and how they reacted to the horrible situation they are in. Plus Toukya, keep going! I'm rooting so much for this girl! 💪

Off I go to the new volume!

My poor husband has been turned into a gigantic worm for the sake of making humans and ghouls come together and realize they should not be butting heads… but it still ain’t right 😭 I’m with Shu here. Am I the only one who just wants Kaneki to be happy? I want him frolicking in a meadow with a book in one hand, and his other hand being held by his wife!

Anyway ✨

Absolutely obsessed with the fact that Hide has come back once again to save his bestie’s ass. That’s a true ride or die right there! He’s always had Kaneki’s back no matter the circumstances! When Amon asks him why he’s willing to go so far for Kaneki, his answer being “because I like him” IS SO FUCKING REAL. Now THAT’S what I call true best friend for life behavior. He’s the kind of friend you need in your corner 🙏🏻

Absolutely loved the growth moment Juzo had in this volume 💖 He stepped up when asked to make a decision for HIMSELF, and he did the right one. He chose to collaborate with the ghouls, and the CCG followed him because he’s become that important. So many of them admire him now, AS THEY SHOULD, and I’m so happy for him 💖😭💖 My beloved deserves this and more! I’d give him the world if I could 🌎

Finally, I’m actually getting sick and tired of Mutsuki and his bullshit. He’s so blinded by his obsession with Kaneki and blind belief in the world as it was that he’s actually working counter to what would be best for Kaneki and everyone else. Like, bro needs to chill the fuck out. Kaneki is MARRIED. He’s gonna have a BABY. Mutsuki needs to let that man go because that shit isn’t going anywhere. All Mutsuki is doing is driving full speed into a train wreck. Someone please stop him because I want him to return to his senses 🥲

Kaneki became this huge ass monster and I’m just trying to understand the motives behind it. I mean, yes, him being a menace makes the CCG investigators work together with the ghouls, but is just like Shuu said: “am I the only one who wants to see him happy?”. Sigh. Guess we are.

Anyway, Hide is back in the game and despite having his face all bitten (or that’s what I’m guessing), he’s still trying to be of help to Kaneki and his group. We have Amon and Akira fighting again for what they think it’s right and of course, my dear Juuzou finally makes his move because he wants to, not because Shinohara would be proud of him. I love them, they’re fucking cool.

What bugs me is that Tohru cannot be stopped –he’s being reduced to a crazy ass, jealous yandere, which I fucking hate. Anyway, at this point I’m not expecting a happy ending, just one that makes sense.

I'm not interested in atonement. Because I have no regrets. I'm jealous... I'm not kind enough to hate, Kurona.

This definitely felt less intense than the previous volume, like a prelude to the end. Still epic and crazy, though.

Compared to the previous volume, this one was less intense. (ha ha, who am I kidding?)
But, as usual, it was bat shit crazy and full of surprises. I believe the next one will be even better.

This is a review of the entire series.

Tokyo Ghoul begins with a streak of incredibly bad luck disguised as good luck. Reports of strange murders involving cannibalism and monster attacks have been haunting the city of Tokyo. What started as rumors quickly becomes reality as more and more victims show up dead. The creatures behind the attacks are believed to be ghouls. They don’t quite fit the normal definition of ghouls, they’re not hideous, rotting, undead monstrosities. They look like humans, they talk like humans, they act and even pretend to eat like normal humans, there’s no way of telling a ghoul from a human until you end up as their next meal. Ken Kaneki and his childhood friend Hide continue to laugh the incidents off as superstitious rumors and continue about their daily life as they normally would.

Things start to seem too good to be true when the shy and socially awkward bookworm Kaneki scores a date with the girl of his dreams, a beautiful, mature and intelligent young woman named Rize. Not only is Rize completely out of Kaneki’s league, but she also happens to share his infatuation with complex horror literature and philosophy. Things seem to be going unusually well for Kaneki, but it turns out that his lovely date is only interested in his body—eating his body, to be more specific. (And not in the hot kinky way either.)

Rize is not only an extremely dangerous ghoul, but she’s what’s known as a binge eater; ghouls that kill and consume without remorse or concern of the population or the safety of other ghouls. She’s the one responsible for most of the brutal killings and cannibalism incidents in the area and poor Kaneki just so happens to be her latest target. Just like that, a dream date quickly descends into a bloody nightmare as Kaneki is nearly tortured to death by Rize in an empty construction site where no one can hear his cries of pain.

Kaneki seems to get lucky when Rize slams him around the construction site and ends up knocking a large hunk of metal down on herself from all the destruction she caused, and ends up killing herself by accident just before she can deliver the final blow to Kaneki. The commotion causes a disturbance in the neighborhood and police are called to investigate the scene. The nearly dead Kaneki is rushed to the hospital along with the corpse of the bloodthirsty ghoul Rize so her organs can be transplanted into Kaneki.

All’s well that ends well, right? Wrong. The streak of bad luck continues. The morally questionable rescue of Kaneki ends up transforming him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid because of the ghoul organs implanted in his body. Losing his taste for his favorite foods, developing violent urges and twisted desires to consume the flesh of his fellow humans, Kaneki is forcefully pulled into the demented underworld of ghoul society which has existed alongside human society for many years in secret.

Kaneki has no choice but to adapt to the ways of the ghouls if he wants to survive, all while keeping his identity a secret and trying to live a normal human life. Thus begins a tragic horror story where a psychologically tortured boy is constantly exposed to the worst aspects of human nature and the savagery of ghoul society. Is Kaneki the first ever outcast that doesn’t belong to human or ghoul society, or is he the first and only person that has the potential to bring the two clashing societies together? Kaneki begins to realize that there’s more to the incident with Rize and the surgery that changed him forever, and he slowly unravels the secrets of the nastiest ghouls and the most corrupt humans working in mysterious ways behind the scenes. After a while, you’ll begin to question who the real monsters are.

Caught between two dangerous worlds, Kaneki grows through immeasurable suffering, bridging the gap between humans and ghouls by learning to love and fear them in equal measure. Tokyo Ghoul builds an emotional story about morality, discrimination and self-discovery. It utilizes the literary themes of Kafka such as metamorphosis and the exploration of absolute gray morality.

Kaneki’s development is literally an emotional roller coaster. He goes through so many changes in beliefs, morals, personality and identity that he struggles to keep track of who he really is as all of the different sides of himself constantly try to conquer and slaughter each other in his severely fractured brain. He can’t decide if he wants to fight against humans for the sake of the ghouls, to fight against ghouls for the sake of humans, or try to come up with some crazy master plan to fight against both of them or neither of them in order to find a way to stop the conflict between all sides once and for all. All these confusing thoughts and morals create a storm inside him and the greatest conflict of all is perhaps the conflict of Kaneki’s own conflicted sense of identity.

Overall, the story has a strong start that immediately throws you into a dark and twisted drama, a tedious middle section that's held back by pacing issues, poorly explained terminology and too many unimportant side characters that don’t get nearly enough development or screen time, but it gets back on its feet with a really strong final few arcs that leave you with many questions and potential answers regarding human morality. It has an impressively large cast connected by limitless plot twists and clever intricacies, deep protagonists with many layers, flashy fight scenes with unique weapons and bodily horror mechanics called Kagune, and it pulls on the heartstrings as you slowly begin to realize that humans and ghouls have a lot more in common than either one would care to admit.

I must say the opening chapter of this is just breathtaking. That chilling ambience of still city life, where the dragon just looks over with its teeth and eyes. Excellent use of a short, dialogue-vacant chapter to just show what needs to be seen.
It’s funny- I remember reading this as it came out. I was much younger then, and I was feeling quite sad that I could see the manga coming to an end. Reading through these chapters, seeing old characters have new beginnings- it’s sweet to see that a younger me enjoyed it so much and was at a significantly different period in his life.
There’s a line in an earlier volume where touka is watching haise/kaneki from afar, and he’s reading his books. She says something like “we never forget what we like”. Turns out I don’t either.
