Warning: This story is a dark urban fantasy rife with violence and mature subject matter. Reader discretion is advised.

The truth is unfolding, almost as fast as her memories. Yet Adara still has questions that only he can answer.

But being near Desmond fills her with confusion—and thoughts of violence. It’s his fault she was tortured. He failed her in so many ways.

Is it any wonder she turns to others for comfort? Revels in the dark jealousy in his gaze?

Now isn’t the time for romance or petty games. Those who brought about her downfall are still at work. Determined to silence her before she discovers the truth.

They’re right to fear because she will hunt the bowels of Ha’el itself for vengeance and when she discovers the truth, she will set it free.

~ New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

I feel like I wasted my time with this series... we’ve spent 2 books learning and loving 2 males and they don’t end up being with her. I get she needs friends too and these guys are awesome friends but I think they never should have been “love interests”. The guy she ends up with is a cool guy too but we don’t get to know him well and honestly I’m just disappointed that she didn’t end up with the first guys introduced.

Kiss of Light by Eve Langlais

The Forsaken Chronicles book 3. Should be read in order.
This book wraps up most the questions from the prior books. Might almost be the concussion to the trilogy but for the last two sentences in the epilogue. As usual for this author.

Dark urban fantasy with violence and torture which is mostly off page.
Adara changes quite a bit with this third book as her memory starts to return. And without spoilers, it didn’t go the way I expected.

I listened mostly to the audio version narrated by Amy Melissa Bentley but also read pieces via the paperback. The narrative was well done with the different voices and tempo. I would recommend this narrator.

What happened?

I have to say that I didn't enjoy this book. By the end of this book; I didn't particularly like Adara or Desmond. I normally enjoy this author's books; but this one felt like she was tired of the story and made it end. I was expecting more and it just disappointed me. Although I'm curious about Titus and Kyla; I'm not sure if I'll read future books.

So everything was turned inside out in this. The poly amorous relationship didn't happen. Sex didn't happen. Romance didn't happen until the end I guess but then we were left with a cliff hanger. Who's her mom and how did mom meet dad. Poor Logan and Titus just did all this stuff her in books one and two for what? Nothing in the end? Disappointed.

Review originally posted at BooksOfMyHeart.net.

This is the third (and I assume final) book in Eve Langlais’s The Forsaken Chronicles series. I say that I assume it is the final book, because it reads like the last book in a series, but I’ve also read books that continue on after the first story arc ends.

So this series follows Adara as she goes from a woman who doesn’t even know who she is to learning about the existence of vampires and werewolves. She struggles with who and even what she is, because she’s not human. She knows she has been forsaken, cast out of her homeland and even tortured.

I don’t want to go into what happens in this book, because it will spoil everything in earlier books. I also don’t quite know how I feel about the ending. Things didn’t go entirely the way I expected. I’m not even sure if I like where the story went, but I also think it does work the way it was written. It made me feel for some of the characters (some more than others). It also made me dislike some characters more. I know I’m being extremely vague, but again, no spoilers.

I think I’ve said this in every review for this series, if you’re an Eve Langlais fan, this series doesn’t have the strong humor you’d expect from her stories. This is a much darker series, showing that she is more than just a snark writer. I don’t want to discourage anyone from trying this series, I’m extremely glad I listened to it. I just don’t want a fan to pick it up expecting the humor you would expect from her normally. As a fan of humor and dark (and often the two are intertwined), either works for me, but I always know which I’m in the mood for.

Narration:

I think this series is the only series where I’ve listened to Amy Melissa Bentley. I’ve really enjoyed her narration. There isn’t a huge cast to this series, though this book had the largest cast of the three, but she does a good job of different voices for all the characters. I thought the voices fit each character’s personality. I would listen to her again, for sure.

**I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Way to go sideways!

This book had so much potential, and had it not been for the first two books would have been great. However, you come into this series with to potential mates and a third on the fence (leaning towards a fall). Then this book happens and everything gets flushed for a different ending. Also, there are still a ton of unanswered questions. Really a sucky end to a really great start.

Idk why this trilogy seems hollow. No backbone supports its main plot, just more fragments combined together...
And it is definitely not a romance.
Unbelievable...IT IS NOT FINISHED....So it's not a trilogy.... JESUS

At the beginning of the third book Adara / Erela has begun to regain some of her memories but most of her past is still vague. She is discovering her own brand of magic. Her companions are her ex, an Ifrit demon lord, a shifter and a vampire. They accompany her on a quest back to her realm to discover the mastermind of the plot against her.

There were a couple of TSTL moments including the one where she abandoned her companions, without thought of consequences. Many very convenient plot coincidences irritated me as well. The big reveal was disappointing and out of left field. The ending was so rushed it was as if the author came to her word limit and said "Ok it's finished." This series had so much potential. Overall, I was disappointed by the conclusion of Erala's story.

A couple words first about the whole series in case you don’t want to continue reading but would like a whole series rating and mini review with no spoilers.

The Forsaken Chronicles was quite the departure from what I was used to reading by Eve. This is not your funny, can’t laugh enough story she’s know for. However it is the great characters unlike anything we’ve seen before she is known for. I was in awe of the world building she did in this series and how it all seemed seamless from one world to the next. The characters of Adara, and all of her men (no spoilers) are very thorough, full of life and depth, emotions, and action. It’s some of the greatness of her work that always shines through. There is a tiny bit of each of us in her characters.

There are times in the series when you want to kill them all because they are all just idiots and the lies (omissions) are making things worse for everyone. But if you stick with it, I promise she brings it all back around and we get our Happily Every After. I love it when you can binge read a series like this.
Dreams of Darkness
This menage romance, dark fantasy series starts off with a scared girl trying to figure out why she sees things, why bad things keep happening to her, and why she’s crazy. However the Werewolf and the Vampire know she is more than this and work together to try to save her from herself and the boogey men that keep coming for her. She is skeptical they can keep her safe, but she has no other resources to work with so she grudgingly takes their help.

In the first book we get a lot of world building and background of the Werewolf and Vampire, but not a lot on Adara except her shy, fearful self. After all the books I’ve read by Eve, I know for a fact she doesn’t write fearful girls. At least not full length book ones. You will probably be frustrated by Adara’s unwillingness to take the hands, tails that are offered in friendship. I know I was. But keep with it I promise it will be worth it in the end.
Awake in the Shadows
What a great title for this one. I mean Adara is finally seeing the light a little bit about her past self and accepting the world around her as well as where she may have come from. In this one, she also starts standing up for herself and allowing our furry friend and the bloody vampire to help her and work on what is stopping her from remembering her past. Her relationship with the werewolf feels like it’s going to win out in the end, but she is still very confused by her feelings for the Vampire. Smart girl as she is, she keeps all her options open. How she keeps them at arms length and still makes them feel close to her is an amazing feat Eve writes just perfectly.

By the end of this book, you are dying to know how it ends for Adara and what getting her memory back really means for the three of them. The angst that is in this one is crazy off the chain and as a reader you start feeling like it’s a bit of a horse race and no matter what Adara remembers it won’t be enough to pull her from either of the two men in her life.

Speaking of Men, we learn in this one how much each has given up to keep her as safe and as near as possible. These are the two strongest non humans running the city and somehow they are there for Adara and maintaining their empires. Little do they know though that there are traitors all around. People they’ve trusted for years will betray them and bring Adara closer to a land she does not know but ultimately may claim her.
Kiss of Light
The changes to Adara are stunning with her memory back, comes the lightness to her appearance. Too bad the memories aren’t all good. Adara’s character makes an amazing change wrought with sadness, happiness, and change. Eve gives us angst and depth of sadness so great I pretty much cried in a couple of scenes.

The memory hacker/torturer is so repulsive, even his own people can’t stand him. It takes all of Adara’s skill she almost lost to catch and kill him. The thing that took her from her true love is nothing but a vengeful lackey to the real perpetrator that Adara uncovers in the end.

As all good things must come to an end, Adara meets her match and even though he gave up on her, she still feels love for him. So the question you are dying to know, does she stay and rule her kingdom with her true love, or does she walk away and live happily ever after in a human world with her werewolf and vampire? That one I won’t spoil for you!!

Wow! This series reminded me of, The Space Gypsy Chronicles, nothing but cliffhangers. Which is why, I should have known after the 1st and 2nd book, how this book would possibly end. But really...another cliffhanger🤦‍♀️ Why??🤷‍♀️

Loved Desmond, and Logan. And felt bad for Titus and Logan, the way she selfishly used them throughout the entire trilogy, so wrong😒 I do believe she had every right to show Desmond extactly what happened to her and feeling the what felt while too. This way he knew exactly how he had failed the one loved so badly. Extremely sad what happened to her, by one she thought who love and she trusted the most😦 i did figure that one even why she was left where she was left has a baby for caring.

I do hope Titus and Logan get their own storylines too. They well earned it.

I was torn on this one. Instead of portraying Titus and Logan as potential romantic suitors, why not portray them as being compelled to help Adara? I ended up feeling like Titus and Logan got the short end of the stick AND throughout this whole "last" (I say last loosely) book in the series they were sacrificing a lot for a possible romantic connection. Then at least Titus in Ha'el wouldn't have been so damn awkward. I was also let down that the first two books focused on this romantic connection with Titus and Logan and the last book ignored it.

As for my "last loosely" comment, it is mentioned at the end of the book, about possible Titus/Logan books so they get their HEA.

Forsaken one

Really the beginning had great potential, I love Eve Langlais books, but I was so invested in Titus and Logan being in a relationship with alara ,it was with great surprise that neither or all were together after over half of the series indicating they loved her ????I was upset to see Titus end up with her therapist? I couldn't finish the end I was greatly disappointed.

Good story with good narration. I was highly annoyed with Adara/Arella towards the end on behalf of Logan and Titus. The story took a turn in the 2nd book and it became clear I was reading a very different book than initially thought. Still the excitement and adventure of the story kept me engaged to the end.

Sweet Vengeance!!!

In the previous book, AWAKE IN SHADOWS , Adara aka Erela found out who she was and what happened to her. She was betrayed by those who had to protect her and she blamed her ex-fiance, Desmond for what was done to her. Which was understandable.

She needed answers and the only one who had them was the man she once loved with every fiber of her being. Being close to him was hurting her but she was on a mission and she wasn't about to let anything nor anyone stand in her way.

Desmon wanted to start over again with the woman he still loved but she was hellbent at keeping him at arm's length. He knew that she'd grown close to the two men who saved her, Titus and Logan. They all had a deep and strong connection to Adara. She had to face the demons of her past before she was she was able to think about her future.

Her enemies (the Tribunal of Ha'el) and another third party were still trying to keep her from finding out the truth. They were afraid of what she might do when she did. Adara was out for vengeance and she had every right to do just that.

The men in her life helped her claim back her life. Adara/Erela finally got hef HEA with the man she loved.

KISS OF LIGHT is the third book in Eve Langlais' FORSAKEN CHRONICLES series. It was exhilarating, fast-paced, action-packed, intense and passionate. Eve Langlais did a marvelous job. Two thumbs up and a recommendation for you guys to give this book a try!

Epic!

The Forsaken Chronicles should be made into a movie! This book concludes the story of Adara, an amnesiac with zombies, killer mists and a slew of demons out to kill her. With the help of the city’s head vampire and wolf pack Alpha she embarks on a journey to discover the why of it as well as her identity.
Written with her usual intelligent wit and humor, Ms Langlais has penned another remarkable story of a strong female who ends up saving the worlds!
