Vital Found

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🤨☺️🙃😎🥰

The heroine: Eve (a.k.a. Evelyn) - She now knows that she is the Vital for the 4 Heroes. A Vital is a conduit to the light for the guys. The Vital absorbs the light and can filter it into the Variant(s) that they are bonded to. Eve is bonded to all 4 of the Heroes.

The Hero(es): Tyler (a.k.a. Gabe) – with the light he gets from Eve, he can not only determine that others are telling lies, but what they are lying about and what is the truth behind the lie.
Ethan (a.k.a. Kid) - He is gaining control of his fire ability.
Josh - He has the power of Telekinesis and with the light infusions from Eve, he is working on being able to fly.
Alec (a.k.a. Master of Pain) – He can send pain out in huge waves. He is doing everything he can to deny his bond with Eve.

The Love Story: The relationship between Alec and Eve is strained to say the least at the start of this book. Also Eve doesn’t really know what her relationship with Tyler is. Since he works for the administration at the Institute, she sees him as a sort of authority figure so she is confused about that and thinks he doesn’t have romantic feelings for her.

The audio/narration is growing on me with the second book, though I still don’t like the male narration. Not only is the voice too old sounding for these young guys, the inflection he uses for Tyler is too chipper and still reminds me of a movie trailer voice. Also, the inflection he uses for Ethan is way too surfer dude and dumb sounding, some of the writing for Ethan shows him as not the brightest of the four, but this voice makes him sound so dumb that it is hard to see what Eve would see in him.

The story was great. I liked it as much as the first book. There was the acrimony between the hate groups and the Variants, the continued issues between Eve and Tyler, and the animosity that Alec seems to hold for Eve. The storylines just keep getting more interesting.

I’m obsessed with my little reverse harem. Now that the unrest with one particular character has been solved, I think I’m in for a treat. Diving right into the third book!

That’s it. I’m a fan

Nope a bigger fan than that

Yup

I believe my exact words at 60% were thank God this is 424 pages long because I never want it to end. Well of course it did end eventually but it took longer than normal because I found myself rereading parts that were just soooooo amazing I had to read it again immediately

This and Bound Spirit have now become my favourite stand in for the popular TVD style RH. I maybe even like them better than TVD but then the pacing is quicker. It says its a trilogy so there is no time for faffing about with other girlfriends and stuff.

So much of this is just right for me.
✅ Evelyn is special but not that special. Yes she has a little more juice in the tank than other Vitals but she not saving the world single handed.
✅ Studygate- what a genius plot device. The drama oh the drama was delicious!
✅ Alec - at the end of book 1 I wrote in my review that I hoped it wouldn’t be easy for him. The asshole needed to be on his knees begging... well I’ll let you read it and decide for yourselves.
✅ Tyler - I want to have your babies. I will fulfil your fantasy no problem - the outfit is in my wardrobe and everything.
✅ the “F ME” moments were so unexpected I could not put down the book until I knew what was gonna happen! But hallelujah they weren’t dragged out- which leads me to
✅ the pacing. Was perfect. We had drama, suspense, romance and everything kept moving. But then it is a trilogy so I guess it has to with an end in sight. Another reason why trilogy are the best

❌ I could have been doing without the use of the “honey voice”
❌ There was a lot of crying but she’s a normal teenage girl. Not the UF heroine who kicks ass. She’s normal and I think I’d have cried too so I can forgive that

The long as short of it is this made me happy and there was very little to complain about

My version of Evelyn:

Evelyn Maynard
Character Kaydence Snow © - Drawing Marguerite L. ©

To sum things up, The Evelyn Maynard Trilogy is a less depressing Seraph Black but an emotional punch nonetheless.

+ Evelyn as Seraph, the special but not too special main character.
+ Alec as Silas, the asshole with a bad boy vibe going on and overly emotionally damaged.
+ Tyler as Quillan, the teacher figure that try to stay distant despite having seriously the hot for Evelyn.
+ Ethan and Josh as Gabe and Nate or whatever their names are, the closest to Evelyn and youngest of the love interests a.k.a the Threesome Bunch of Misfits.
+ Dot as these guys's cousin, the lively girl sidekick slash depressed friend that lost her other half.

Vital Found take place weeks after the event of the first book and the abduction of Charlie. It's a bundle up of anger, screaming, build up tension -sexual or not-, pain, selflessness and love. The characters made me go from an emotion to another in the shortest span ever and I couldn't help feeling both frustrated and understanding. When I should have simply felt annoyed, I felt helpless, and my heart reached out to them.

I seriously cannot wait to see what the third -and last- book will give us.

+ Josh was my favorite in the first book and still is there. He is a lot similar to Miles from TVD in my opinion; geeky, selfless, playful and naughty.

+ The book is LONG. Usually, RH tends to drag after a couple of hundred pages but it was well balanced here.

+ It took me a while to remember that Tyler's complete name was Tyler Gabriel and to stop wondering who the fuck this Gabe was.

+ Dot is still abso-fucking-lutly precious.

This would have been 3 stars, but the book is a good length (132,000 words) and it flows very well, so I bumped it up to 4.

The Bad

❌ It took me a while to remember the characters and personalities of everyone involved in the harem, which isn't a good sign.

❌ Evie had a few moments of being irritating. She casually called a human a Dime, a word which is supposed to be as insultingly species-ist as 'mudblood' is in the HPverse, and I disliked this sudden appearance of casual racism.

❌ Alec, Alec, Alec. Where do I even start with him? The author unfortunately concentrated too many negative qualities into him, while making the others perfect, so he looks even worse in comparison. He essentially 'cheats' on her, being with Dana while knowing Eve is his Bond. He calls Dana the 'only girl who's ever made him feel normal.' He calls Eve worthless. He also has issues with sharing, constantly rejects her, keeps secrets, and just all-out is not a great guy.

The Good

✔️ It was well written and interesting.

✔️ Once I'd remembered who was who, the harem proceeded without any more instances of them blurring into each other.

✔️ Perfect level of burn.

✔️ Great epilogue.

ALEC CARRIED THE BOOK!! and I don't even like him!!

I know this series is being compared to bonds that tie a lot bc people think it's a copy of each other (this one was released first) tho I personally think they're so different lol but while bonds that tie got too complex at some point, this book is NOT COMPLEX ENOUGH

Because the whole thing with Alec was so underwhelming and I was flabbergasted when he came clean about why he was being a dick and our fmc was SHOCKED like she couldn't believe that's why Alec did what he did.... and I was like 🤨 girlie pop what do you mean, I THOUGHT WE BEEN KNEW

So freaking happy that this is out now and that I read it!
Spoilers below? Maybe? Idk.

Vital Found was definitely one of those books that once I found time to read it.. boy - I didn't it put it down! I missed everyone in this book and I cant' believe that I kind of forgot about what happened in the previous book. It was interesting to see how these characters were acting once they came back to school. Plus, I just really wanted to see how my guys were and if things were finally progressing with all of them and Eve.

Speaking of the guys, I feel like they love to tease me. I had no idea that Alec and Tyler made this little promise to step back from Eve.. even though they all had feelings for her. I get that Alec didn't like the whole sharing thing and doesn't know if he can do it - but damn, that must be hard on all of them. I did enjoy that her and Tyler are finally a thing now! Hot damn, that one scene was so good!! Then there's Josh, Ethan and her - and ddaaammnn, I enjoyed that one too. I just need Alex on board now because I think it would be amazing between them two. HECK, I need all of them together ASAP.

Other than all of that, I didn't expect that kind of betrayal from Zara. I knew that something was off with her.. but dang, she had some secrets. The cliffhanger was alright in my eyes.. but I have no idea how I feel about it. Am I excited for the next book? I have no freaking idea! Do I want the next book right now? Of course I do, I miss everyone already but depending on when it actually comes out - I will probably need to reread these two books first.

Well, at least it was better than book 1 however I still feel unsatisfied.

Positives, the storyline was better. There was more of a flow to it than book 1 and with less muddled information. The secondary characters were more detailed/interesting.

Negatives, still feels like there is much missing from the bond mates relationships. Evie did level up with part of her Variants what may be missing for me is the transition from a friendly bond to the intimate bond. Where in the storyline at times there seems to be to much information, the relationships seem to have to little. I still can not stand Alec. Snow seems to be trying to bring us back full circle to Alec and implying Evie and him have the biggest connection. Alec has done so much to his Vital (Evie) I am having difficulty recovering from it and accepting that logic.

Off to the final installment of this series.

Happy Reading! DD

I was really into this series all throughout my reading of Variant Lost. Then, I started reading Vital Found and somehow all the things I liked about the previous book disappeared. The relationships lost their substance, they became flat all-around. If I'm being quite honest, Evelyn became dumb and insensitive to other people. Everyone treated her like she was either special or a child... in some cases, they treated her like both. The Vital-Variant bond turned nauseating to me. I think this quote is the one that best articulates my issues with it:
I was decidedly pissed off at him, wanted nothing more than to be away from him, yet I was getting turned on at that mere suggestion of feeling his hands, and other things, on me again. I hated it. But that's what the Light did. That's what it meant to be in a Bond. You were drawn to each other no matter what.

It started to feel like it wasn't her choice to be involved with the guys. Like it was something she had no say in, like she would have to take whatever crap they did or said just because they were bonded.

Writing this, I came to the conclusion that what I used to like most about the series was how true it rang for me. I could picture the characters in my head and I believed in their relationships with each other.

I imagined this beautiful institute full of learning and knowledge just waiting to be discovered. I liked Eve's curiosity about the Variants and their abilities. I liked how she spent her nights awake reading academic journals and doing research.

I saw Alec as this stranger who was there for her when she desperately needed someone. I saw Josh as this sweet, unexpected romance. He felt like one of those things life throws at you with no expectations, like that one moment that would stay magical no matter what. Ethan was that person people told you to stay away from, but to whom you couldn't help getting close, couldn't help becoming a friend to. Tyler felt like a crush, plain and simple. Like an intellectual type of crush... kind of platonic, but it could become something else given time to grow. Only none of that happened, instead, it became warped.

None of the things I liked about the series are there anymore, because the writer managed to ignore all of these things. She focused on the sexual aspect of the relationships, on Eve's whining and insecurity. Alec was hot and cold pretty much until 80% of the book. Tyler was like that for awhile too. Even Ethan and Josh became stereotypes. Eve barely went to her classes, there wasn't any new content available. She wasn't inquisitive anymore. The worldbuilding simply stopped happening. The characters all became superficial morons.

Also, the plot. What is it with them taking the entire book to find Charlie and the other Vitals? For Christ's sake, they had the full power of a Secret Government Agency at their disposal, looking for the culprit... they even had a suspect already. And did they do anything with it? No, of course not. Instead, the storyline dragged on and on with only brief mentions of the guys being absent because they were so focused on the mission. Where was the action? The espionage? Something!
Furthermore, THE SECRET FUCKING AGENTS ARE CONSTANTLY HAVING SECRET MEETINGS AND DISCUSSING CLASSIFIED INTEL IN CORRIDORS... OR IN ROOMS WITH DOOR THAT WERE LEFT OPENED... WHERE ANYONE CAN JUST EAVESDROP ON THEM -- as Eve always does.

All in all, I think this book served as a lesson in managing my expectations and unfulfilled hopes.

I just love the slow-burn romance in this why choose. It's done so well. The world-building and magic system could be better explained, but I love these characters. This is the book that really made me start to love Tyler and Alec (finally!). I would 100% recommend this series to readers who enjoy why choose and paranormal romance. Also, if you liked The Bonds That Tie series, read this!

Not bad

Still telling not showing style of writing, but a bit more detailed into what was going on or occurring in semi real time.

Eve and the guys go through a lot here but there is a whole lot of nothing much in the middle. Alec is still being Alec, Josh and Ethan are deepening the relationship and Tyler was just hanging back it was frustrating. But we make strides in all aspects of the relationship.

Except with Alec I feel like his excuses weren’t clear enough or he was let off the hook too easily. And I didn’t quite understand his behavior. My other question is how he could have been with Dana? That was never mentioned to the other guys either, which bugged me when they finally talked it out.

Overall the series is decent, I just wish it was much less telling.

I’m not really sure how this will end though.

"I need a little more light, baby..."

I genuinely do not know where to start. I have been waiting for Vital Found since finishing Variant Lost late last year and I can tell you right now... the wait was well worth it. Kaydence Snow has done it again in her second ever novel, by delivering a story that has you hooked from the prologue all the way to the end. Her characters are captivating and their stories are addictive.

"Let it flow, baby..."

I finished this book a few days ago and I am still in awe. I have been fighting to try find the right words that will do it justice, and honestly I still don't believe I do. But let's try yeah? If you have read Variant Lost and finished it with a million questions, rest assured they are all answered when you read Vital Found. This is the main reason Kaydence has become one of my favourite authors, due to the fact that she listens to her readers and takes in what they say but mostly what they want. For me personally, every question I asked was answered, and every gap I wanted filled was given it's missing piece.

"Take it all if you have to..."

You might read the blurb, or know the sub genre this book is in, however let me be the first to tell you that even though The Evelyn Maynard Trilogy is a reverse harem - it is NOTHING like your typical smut related ones. Yes it has so much sexual chemistry you can feel it in your bones, and yes there is steamy scenes and hot kisses shared amongst the four guys and Eve. However that is not the story nor is it the main attraction of this book. Vital Found is a book where you have a bit of everything you love in a romance. You get to swoon over the love Ethan, Josh, Tyler and Alec have for Evelyn. You get the mystery, thrill and adventure for what they are fighting against and for. You get those hot and heavy moments that are sure to make you blush six ways from sunday. But you will most definitely get a story that draws you in, keeps you hostage and leaves you wanting more, more and more.

"Knowledge is Power."

Words will never be enough to describe just how much I love this book or how much I love this Trilogy. I encourage you to read this book, and get lost in the story of Evelyn and her boys, because it is one you will happily do over and over again. Vital Found is definitely the easiest add to not only my 2019 Favourite Reads, but to my number 1 spot. A job well freaking done by you Kaydence Snow.

I swug between two and fours stars, ping ponging between the two rapidly throughout.

This is an odd series. On the one level it has that same quality that makes The Veil Diaries and Seraph Black such popular series in this genre: a really solid group of guys who have a great relationship and who's dynamic and interactions are enjoyable to read about. The book is pretty compelling. I think the bond aspect as well and the wya it's dealt with.

However, I got so irritated by so many of the interactions and behaviour of the characters.

Eve herself is a bit of a idiot really, which is a shame. Her role in the bond is a passive one, but the way she's treated like a fragile special snowflake by the men got on my nerves. She also made some pretty stupid decisions, which made me want to shake her. She is a sympathetic character, on the whole, but not someone I was insistently rooting for.

While I like the dynamic between the guys I wish they were more developed. They are all just so clichéd. I mean Gabe is all clean but with her pressed slacks or whatever but because he has a tattoo and she saw him wear a leather jacket one he's a secret bad boy? Of course Ethan secretly likes to cook (isn't there always one of those in a Harem) and Josh is your stereotypical quiet nersy one who likes books, but is also a demon in bed.

And don't even get me started on Alec. He had the potential to be complex and the best of the lot, as his type of character in these things, but apart from the last fourth of the book where he begins to redeem himself, he's just painted as a giant ass hole. His interactions with Eve got so annoying and repetitive.

There is also about 70% relationship stuff (that only really goes anywhere in the last third) and what plot there is does guve some pretty big revelations, but it didn't mean as much as it could have if what was going on with the wider plot was made a bigger deal of.

And the epilogue also made me roll my eyes.

I'm sounding pretty scathing here, but I still would recommend this series, particularly if you love The Veil Diaries or Seraph Black. While the hear level in this definitely makes it not Young Adult, it does have a distinctly YA vibe, which almost always puts me off a book, and looking at the rave reviews, I think this is most likely just me feeling this way!

I liked this one a lot more than I thought I would. I felt like there was less random stupidity with the characters - less of them missing a totally obvious thing right in front of their face - and the Alec situation played out better than I could have hoped it would.

I'm not going to say I like him, or even that I want him with Eve. But I will say that I believe what he said, I believe that he's trying, and most of all I am gratified that Eve didn't just roll over and let him walk all over her.

I've said this in reviews for other books that have this problem (the strong female lead hurling herself repeatedly at someone who treats her like complete garbage): it isn't that the alpha-hole thing doesn't ever work for me. It can. But it only works for me when the lead female has the self-respect to stand up to the asshole. To not pant after him and forgive everything because she's so eager to get into his pants ... to not let sex wipe the slate clean. If they work it out as equals, that can be an amazing story.

My one quibble is that Tyler treated Eve as if she was half the problem - there was one time when he yelled for them to both stop acting like children, and I wanted to punch him in the throat. That's not fair, and it is a gross mischaracterization - Eve was the victim of all his bullshit. They weren't both to blame. And Tyler putting it that way made me worry that Eve was going to roll over and apologize when she did nothing wrong.

Happily, it didn't play out like that.

So with those things from the first book (out-of-character stupidity to serve the plot, and heroine panting after douchebag) not an issue in this book, I loved it. I cried, I laughed, I was utterly riveted. Can't wait to see how the trilogy wraps up.

Evelyn and her Variants return to school following the attack that left Beth dead and Charlie kidnapped. They are still trying to find out who is responsible and where Charlie might have been taken. In the meantime, Evelyn begins to strengthen her bonds with the guys but everyone is holding back because of Tyler and Alec. Eventually, the group comes up with a way to possibly find Charlie and Evelyn

I love all the characters in this group and enjoyed getting to know them a little better. I feel like the entire plot could have been wrapped up with a flick of a wrist at the end, but it didn't happen. I guess it is a good thing since there are a couple of unresolved issues. I'm looking forward to the final book. Smut factor on this one is 3.5 out of 5.

As expected.

Charlie is kidnapped by extremists but Dot still has a big night on the town for her birthday. Eve loses her roommates, finds out who her father is and learns why she and her mother were always running. Eve grows closer to her bondmates. Tyler makes a big confession to Eve, but Alec makes a bigger confession to her. Ethan is an annoyingly needy marshmallow and Josh is by far the most perfect Variant in the bond.

Well, this was amazing!

Vital Found is the perfect sequel to the Evelyn Maynard series. It answers all the questions that I had, but still left me needing more. This is the first series with this reverse harem situation that I have ever read, so it’s super unique and new to me.

Eve’s guys are so hot! I can’t get enough of her relationship with each of them. In the first book I wasn’t sure about Alec, but now I’m really digging him. I think his insecurities about sharing Eve make sense and their relationship seems the most realistic. It’s a little odd how Ethan and Josh have no issue passing Eve back and forth between them, but I suppose a lot of is because of the supernatural bond bringing even the boys closer. I love that Tyler is now also open about his feelings for Eve. The gang is standing strong and I couldn’t be happier about it!

Zara’s plot twist was a little predictable, considering her weird behavior towards Eve and Dot. I’m not sure how I feel about the ending and what could it mean. I’m a little bummed there is only one book left, and after devouring the first two, I’m gonna finish my other current reads before I dive into the last one because I just don’t want it to end!

The first book in this trilogy, Variant Lost, was my favorite reverse harem (RH) book from 2018, and though it is only March, I suspect Vital Found may end up being my favorite of 2019. This series and its characters resonate with me in so many ways and though I often make a big deal out of Alec, the series' alphahole, being my favorite, the truth is I love all of the heroes, and the heroine, Evelyn. In this second book, Alec and Evie continue to be at odds, but we all know he loves her so much, and I love that dynamic more than I can say. Her relationships with her other Variants continues to evolve, all while they navigate learning to use and control their powers in relation to Evie's Light. Something I love about this series is that the things that are predictable are the things I most want to happen so I am pleased by them, and conversely the things I THINK are going to happen that I might not like, end up not happening at all, as the author takes the story in a direction I didn't see coming. This book is even longer than the first one and I applaud that as I have found too many RH books are too short for adequate development. I don't think it is a coincidence that this series of longer books is earning the rare full 5 star from me. As I read, I couldn't wait for certain things to happen, and at the same time didn't want it to end. By the same token, I can't wait for the last book, but I will be infinitely sorry to say goodbye to these characters.

In Vital Found we get all the answers, and more, that we were waiting for. Who is Evelyn’s father? Why was her mother on the run? Why is Alec and Tyler keeping her at a distance?

We get our answers and everything is truly mind blowing! I couldn’t put this book down. If you thought the first book in this series was great; then I guarantee that you’ll love this one even more!

Things heat up between Eve and her variants and they become closer than ever. And one of the biggest surprises that I loved was that Alec finally broke down his walls and confessed his true feelings to Eve. My heart was doing somersaults!

This book is action packed, full of secrets being revealed, and there’s never a dull moment.

I cannot wait for the third book!!

In the second book of the Trilogy we start just after where the first ended. This book has a lot more danger and a lot more smut. As the group continues to learn what they can do with a vital. Their vital is doing the same. Evelyn learns why she grew up on the run and the monster now knows where she is as well. He will start a war to get her.

3.10 ★★★☆☆

(Spoiler if you haven’t read the previous book.)

《 Story 》
Type? Series.
POV? Evelyn's.

Major changes are happening at Bradford Hills Institute after the invasion that occurred. Evelyn has lost some of her companions but she knows that she has to prepare for the dangerous lurking in the dark. Security has been increased to protect the students from dangerous things that could happen like last time.

Her relationships with her bonds are not really going well. Things are doing pretty good with Ethan and Josh. She tries to figure things out with Tyler who has been cautious with her. The most complicated people for Evelyn to handle is Alec of course.

The amount of Vitals that have gone missing is increasing at an alarming rate. The guys have become more and more protective to keep Evelyn from danger that’s awaiting her. Will she be safe with their overprotective manner?

《 Characters 》
Evelyn Maynard, the Vital
It's official. I don't like her. If the first book is a bit of a mixed feeling, then this is complete, full and pure dislike. Can I rant here? I'm sorry I'll just rant here aha. Here are some things that are just major not okay:
● Not smart.
I’ve wanted to say it since book one but I felt like I needed to see more in order to say it. So yes, I have seen enough to say this.
● Trying wayyy too hard.

● Slut shaming people.
If you recall, Evelyn labelled Dana as slut because she had something going on with Alec. I already dislike that but I didn’t want to call her out yet. I was thinking maybe she was just jealous (still not right). But right now in this book, she’s being a bit too much. Firstly, were there in some sort of relationship for Evelyn to call Dana a slut? Dana had only been involved with Alec unlike Evelyn here. So what’s her deal to call other people slut when she’s the one who has more than one people?
“That was quick. I didn’t take you for a one-minute man.” I propped one hand on my hip and smirked at him in what I hoped was as cruel and detached a way as he so often smirked at me. “Or did you decide not to have slutty car sex tonight?”
His eyes briefly widened. “You’re one to talk, precious. I’m not the one who’s made out with two separate people in one night, in a very public place.”
Right at your face, Evelyn. Honestly, what’s her deal here anyway? It doesn’t just stop here though.

● Selfish.
I feel like she never really cared much about other people rather than her own feeling. I mean yeah sure, she seemed to care about Ethan and Josh. Tyler included. But nope, I don’t like how she’s always relating her feelings with their Bond relationship. Like, why sister and brother who had been Bonded together are not involved in sexual things? It felt superficial at this point.

“Tyler, you promised me no more secrets, and then you went and made another one.” Just as quickly as the anger had risen, it dissipated, leaving me feeling deflated and hurt.
This righteous attitude of her is making me lose patient with her. She always called out to others not to do this and that. But look at her. She’s literally hiding something right at that moment. So look who’s actually talking. Who’s keeping secrets?
● Childish to the core.
Sure, I was still pissed at him for putting us all through this, but he was hurting and he was mine.
Are your Bonded partners some kind of toys? When they are gifted to you, you automatically called them yours? Alec never once said he’s in a relationship with her so what’s with her claiming he’s hers?
“Really ‘Master of Pain’?” I said, dripping sarcasm. “You take that kind of beating and you can’t handle a bit of iodine?”
What kind of attitude is this? You want Alec to open up to you but can you look at how you’re treating him?
He frowned, disapproving, and I felt that familiar Alec-fueled irritation sneaking in to ruin my good vibes. “Look, can we just agree to stay on opposite sides of the room? Then maybe we can both have a good night. Yes? Great!”
It’s clear as day that Alec was being cautious in case her power went out of control if she can’t handle her alcohol. But she just had to go and start something mean with him. That’s so childish.

Alec Zacarias, the Master of Pain
Alec is more open in this book than the last one. I have seen a lot of people hating on Alec's character defending Eve. I like his character honestly. He has been struggling to accept himself so there's been a lot of misunderstanding about him. He doesn't talk much with people but he sure does have a good heart.

Tyler Gabriel, the truth detector
A lot of light had been thrown on Tyler’s character. What he actually thought of Evelyn came out on this book. Tyler still has that adult like personality that always comes up with reasonable plan every time something comes up.

Ethan Paul, the fire
I couldn’t get myself to really like Ethan somehow. I don’t see much difference in Ethan’s character.

Josh Mason, the telekinesis
If I kinda like Josh in the previous book, this time not so. Sure, he's very observant on other people's feelings. He's smart too because he can grasp what's going on quickly. There's only one thing I'm not okay with. The fact he's okay with sharing things is just so weird.

《 Pros & Cons 》
Romance
↳ I was relieved when there’s only a few romance in the first book. But oh God, this one is just all over the place. If you want to skip the romance, read the first few chapters and then just skip until first few chapters back. Maybe a few chapter in the middle. Yes, majority of it are focused on romance when Charlie has gone missing. Wow, really wow.

I might not have much problem with romance if and only if their romance is a little normal. I’m not okay with someone claiming someone as theirs when its not like they are in a relationship? Since when having Bond equal to being in a relationship? And with 4 people on top of that.

Again, Eve's relationship with her Bonds except Alec felt extremely superficial. Just because they are Bonded and then bang! They belong to her automatically? Excuse me, may I know why? None of them, literally none said their love towards her. All I see are just their lust to do sexual stuffs.

My hope that the romance will get better is fading away. I know it's reverse harem but one can still hope right? Sigh.

Predictable plot
↳ I love the first book because there are some twists and surprise elements there. So I enjoyed it so much. But this one is kinda predictable to me.

《 Personal 》
Honestly? I feel a bit sad. I know I could love this book so so so much if not for some of the cons which is a major turn off. I read some reviews for the next book to see if it gets better. But it doesn't so…. I might just take a short break before reading the last one. I’m continuing because of what happened in the end. And yes, for one last glimpse of Alec before it ends for good. :(

I’m sorry for the long review mixed with rant. It's just the book is not what I expected so I'm a bit disappointed. Will continue to read the next one but not so soon. Afraid I might drop it if I continue immediately because of how disappointed I feel.

Criteria of book

My favorite thing about the Evelyn Maynard series is honestly that there are so many dimensions to this story- a young girl trying to navigate her life after tragedy, four guys trying to come to terms with the fact that they're all pining for the same girl, the supernatural community is thrown into chaos after startling revelations come to the forefront and readers get the mother of all betrayals!

Vital Found was perfectly paced to give readers just the right amount of action, suspense, drama, and heartache to hit you right in the feels. I ended my review of book# 1 stating this was a slow burn and this theme carries on within this book. Evelyn and the guys are organically forming relationships and each bond is unique. The delicacy with which Kaydence has handled the relationships is so sweet and realistic. I honestly enjoyed all the awkward encounters, the hesitations between Eve and the guys, the embarrassing moments, it truly felt like they are building a solid foundation instead of insta-love.

Vital Found allowed our young characters to grow and truly come into their superpowers. With the enhanced boost from Evelyn, all our guys have experienced an increase in their power levels which unlocks some pretty interesting advancements.

The plot progresses as more light is shed on Eve's past, especially her childhood, we learn more about the guys and gain insight into why they are the way they are. This book was slightly melancholy for me because there is a staggering blow as we lose a favorite character but I think the author handled it just right.

I still don't know if I would say this is a reverse harem as yet but I think we're getting there (hopefully soon).

This book blew all my expectations away, first and foremost. I read Variant Lost last year and, although I absolutely loved the book, I didn’t like a certain character and I was worried that his behavior would continue bothering me in this book. And now, I love this character and want more of him! In fact, the best part of this book was the character development we see between Eve and all the guys, especially Alec and Tyler.

Tyler, by the way, is mine. ALL MINE! This just something about how commanding, mature, and logical he is that just gets my heart fluttering hard and me grinning like a schoolgirl with a crush. For those of you who have read the book already…you’ll get why that comparison is so funny hahaha

I love this world, the elements the author weaves into this story is absolutely beautiful and riveting, and again, I want to stress again how amazingly brilliant the characters are. It's difficult in RH romances for the guys to each shine and have enough screen time for us to care for them deeply, and I think this book does this job excellently. And the characters are always growing as people, which I appreciate.

Also, we finally get some sexy time in the books hahaha I remember finishing the first book and dying for Eve to get closer to the guys, because that sexual tension was killing me! LOL but I was pleasantly surprised by how...close Eve got to the guys, pun totally intended! Their relationships are so sweet, but they hit a new level of hotness in this book.

I highly recommend the Evelyn Maynard trilogy. I'm sad that there's only one book left in the trilogy because honestly, it's one of the best trilogies I've ever had the pleasure of reading. For those of you thinking about reading this trilogy, I say go for it. The characters are amazing, the world building is excellent, and the twists and turns are endless. I didn't even see the ending of this book coming, which is so nice since I've read hundreds of books and am rarely surprised.

The plot for this book was more developed and more interesting than the first. The writing got better and the character development is starting to improve.

Plot twists weren’t shocking and I could see them from a mile away, which made me slightly annoyed that no other character knew. All in all, i’m eating it up.

Eve has found her home; she has a family with her Variants. But it's complicated. Ethan and Josh have made it clear how much they adore her, Tyler has given her support even if he doesn't seem interested in anything more but Alec has hurt her more than she thought was possible and more than once. To make it worse the tension between Eve and Alec has the whole bond unsettled which is dangerous with the rising tensions between Variants and humans, the missing Vitals, and the danger to Eve if her identity is revealed.

I really enjoy this series. It's well written and not totally predictable. This is an easy book to lose yourself in. Plus, Ms. Snow managed to do the impossible...she changed my opinion of Alec. The Master of Pain finally revealed himself and surprise, he's the man I hoped for. It took way too long to get him and Eve where they should be; there was too much unnecessary repetitive high school behavior and I am happy to put it in the past. The characters each seem more developed and the relationships were solidified. I appreciate how the deepening bonds equal a growth in powers but I wish there was never a feeling that the bonds are what draw them to one another. It cheapens the feel of true affection. The world building is not as significant as book one but there are answers about Evelyn's past. There were some unneeded scenes thrown in but the overall storyline is a good one. I look forward to seeing the ultimate showdown between the opposing factions.

NOT SAFE Spoilers

-It’s and RH and most of the men are weak betas!

Most of this is about the main guy in the harem…..

-Main H in harem has known h her whole life and had a connection. He’s in love with her since they were young. Like a deep connection.

-They got separated and years past and h is searching for H.

-H knows where h is and is keeping tabs on her. But is making sure she doesn’t find him.

-They reunite and are put together as a team with that’s has her and the harem in it. They live together as a team.

-H knows he is her bonded but keeps it a secret cause he doesn’t want to bond🤬

-H is HORRIBLE to h. He is sleeping with his fuck buddy which the h see constantly. She sees them making out. See OW coming out of his room after sex.

-At a gala H corners h and kisses her and slight make out. But right after H goes out to the limo and fucks his fuck buddy and h walks up and sees them.

-Then when things explode H tells h she has no right to tell him who he can fuck.

-It comes out that he knew they were bonded (mates) and lied. He says he loves her his whole life. She forgives him immediately and they move on.

-Knowing she was his bonded and kept fucking OW right in front of her for months and basically the whole first book is disgusting and it is DEFINITELY CHEATING 🤬😡🤬😡

-Waist of time. It’s about a group of people fighting with their brains 🧠 and it was boring but honestly after the whole cheating thing I was out anyways!

Bored

The first half of the book nothing happens.

The whole book is all secrets and miscommunications - and protecting Alec over Eve.

When the guys are mid/late 20s (Alec is 8 years older than her!) and they all act like they are in middle/high school - how are they secret agents/graduate college?

Basically they group spent almost a year messing around instead of trying to find Charlie and when they finally decided get their act sorta together, they did a rescue mission.

Eve knows she is immature with all the "with all the maturity I could gather" inner monologs.... But with the other guys being as immature as her, they take forever to solve and accomplish anything. I sorta feel like book 1 and 2 could have been one book if you just removed all the filler drama/miscommunication/you kept a secret from me so I am going to keep a secret from you games.

I will read the next book to see how the trilogy finishes but this book was Def a meh from me.

This second installment just gets better as we dive deeper into the complicated variations of the light and how the bond can function as a whole.

My guy Alec goes through a lot and I love the level gradual way he gets to redeem himself and start making things right.
I just love those guys so much. Not one relationship is overpowered by the other. The pace is right though a lil frustrating at time I won’t lie 🫣

I love the new characters and plot twists that build up to explain everything and bring Evies story somewhat full circle! She is so normal and I appreciate the way Kaydence lets her move at her own pace, gaining confidence and going after what she wants to protect her own, no matter the cost.

I think this second one is my fave but now that I’m finally taking the time to review this series I’m move in love with it than I was before.
So let’s see how I feel after the last 3rd re read 🖤
