"If you are reading this, count yourself lucky to have found this book. It contains some of the most fascinating information and material you will ever read." --New York Times best-selling author Jack Canfield
Self-Intelligence is the self-help book for people who long to transform their lives and who trust only proven scientific tools, but also prefer page-turners to dry prose.
Cutting-edge brain science meets superb storytelling as readers learn proven techniques to break through inner gridlock, sustain high performance, and achieve their dreams. All of this is possible due to neuroplasticity, the revolutionary discovery that we can literally re-form our brains by strategically choosing our thoughts, actions, and experiences.
First came emotional intelligence, then came social intelligence. Here, at last, Self-Intelligence provides the big picture, incorporating the latest research from diverse scientific fields. Mental coach, transformational trainer, and science addict Jane Ransom lays out for you the new Self-Intelligence(TM) model, which she has used to help countless clients achieve the positive change they previously found impossible.
You'll be uplifted, motivated to move forward, and simply fascinated. The author, who also is a master hypnotist, devotes a riveting chapter to the art and science of hypnosis. Throughout the book, she shares intriguing behind-the-curtain glimpses of its applications.
By following the easy, clear precepts of Self-Intelligence, you can finally achieve your true potential and take the scientific short-cuts to greater success. You'll be empowered to avert old obstacles because the five-part model addresses your entire being, from the hidden depths of your subconscious self to your striving self, who sets and achieves tangible goals.
Because Jane Ransom loves success, she’s also downright fond of failures.
How’s that? Failures, you see, can be alchemized into greater success—using not magic but brain science.
Organizations and individuals often get so spooked by the experience or prospect of making mistakes that they fall into a paralysis of resisting change. That’s just one reason why Jane provides Self-Intelligence™ coaching, training and speaking to help her clients move forward with sound strategies and unstoppable momentum.
The recent discovery of neuroplasticity means that continuous improvement—i.e., ongoing positive change—is not only possible, it’s mandatory for us to thrive. But here’s the deal: On our heroic trek up Success Mountain, we’re sometimes going to stumble. What researchers now know is that those temporary “mistakes” can be our greatest teachers AS LONG AS we resist the impulse to shame or berate ourselves (or others).
Yep, this is not only welcome news, it’s rigorously proven brain science.
So for example, one thing companies can do to move forward faster is to stop trying to motivate anyone through excessive fault-finding and instead use the science of praise to boost engagement, productivity and retention.
But here again, the latest research offers some surprising finds, for it turns out praise can be wildly effective—or just the opposite—and some of the most effective brain rules around praise are highly counterintuitive.
Being both science nerd and trained communicator, Jane synthesizes all this research into simple but powerful takeaways that you can use to up-level yourself and your organization.
Through virtual and in-person coaching, facilitating and speaking, Jane serves clients in the United States, Canada, Europe and the East. She’s known for her cutting-edge model of Self-Intelligence™, her dynamic storytelling and her ability to catalyze change. All her presentations are experiential, meaning that people learn through participating in science-proven exercises which also happen to be fun.
In her five-part Self-Intelligence™ model, Jane weaves together disparate threads of research—from neuroscience, psychology, behavioral economics and more—so that she can lead clients through a robust, sustainable and invigorating process of change. She offers presentations on such topic as:
• Get Out of Your Way!: Using the Self-Intelligence™ Model to Become Unstoppable
• Don’t Tell Them You’re a Leader: Master the Art (and the New Brain Science) of Influence using Self-Intelligence™
• Stop Herding Cats: How to use Self-Intelligence™ to Turn Under-Enthused Employees into Engaged Achievers

One of the best self-help book I have ever read. Packed with scientific research data and case studies, I am convinced that the approaches suggested in the book will help you in being your best self! While some of the approaches suggested in the book are old wisdom, others were new (and surprising) find that took some convincing to believe. I whole-heartedly recommend those seeking for books to improve themselves to read Self-Intelligence. Here’s to a new and improved you!
Although I already knew a lot of the facts and strategies mentioned in this book, it was still interesting to read about them again. Repetition is never wrong, when you are trying to change your behavioural patterns, as Ransom also states several times, maybe not in these exact words though.
The book emphasises that it is never to late to learn something new or to change a pattern and that, due to the brain's plasticity, it is not as hard as one might think to change one's patterns.
Ransom says that her book is a toolbox rather than a how-to to be read from back to front. And although I read it from back to front, I can see that some people might just pick the chapters that most interest them.
Drawing from her experience as a hypnotherapist and from her own life, Ransom created this toolbox based on the Principle of Five. The five main parts of the book are about the subconscious self, the conscious, the embodied, the social and the striving self. Each chapter is introduced with a small quiz, and is concluded by the solution to the quiz and a "In a Nutshell" paragraph. The structure of the book and each chapter is very organic and it is easy to follow Ransom's logic.
I especially liked the logical layout of the book and Ransom's writing style, which incorporates stories and facts in a good mix so that the information is presented in an interesting and easy to understand way.

For the first couple of chapters, I thought nothing of this book. It seemed pompous and lacking any real ways of change. But as I continued reading, Jane Ransom gave some useful information as well as a way to take that information and how to apply it to your life. By the time I reached the end, I was glad that I had read it.
Loved this so much! I usually abandon self help books 2/3rd of the way through but I read this cover to cover within the library due date and loved every bite-sized chapter-nugget of wisdom. Not just wisdom: TOOLS. Simple, easy to implement tools, backed by scientific research. I raved about it so much that Matt sneakily ordered me a copy 😍
The barefoot investor of self help. I borrowed this book for hypnosis and was surprised to find much more. I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their life. Is that all of us?
A great book. A concentrated knowledge and scientific research about the brain and how you can use this knowledge to improve different areas of your life. It is simple and easily understood read and the presentation is clear and interesting. I really liked that you don't have to read the chapters in order but according to your interest.
This is a wonderful book. Jane does a wonderful job explaining this complex topic in terms that we can understand. Her examples in each chapter are relatable to all of us. We can easily use the tactics she described to make improvements that we want to make. All are very practical and easy-to-use. Thank you, Jane, for writing this book!
I received a free copy of "Self Intelligence" by Jane Ransom, through the "Good Reads First Reads Giveaway."
This is a book that makes us self aware and improves our life. I had a problem with accepting, "there is no such thing as talent". Although it is true that science can not define talent, it does not mean that it does not exist. After all, growing up we experience that there are many children among us who had the ability to learn a sport quickly and efficiently, they were considered to have a talent.
This is my only difficulty with the book, which is otherwise insightful and useful for the average reader. This book will improve your life.
I read a lot of self help book, THIS IS THE BEST i’ve ever read so far. Even makes me question how other self help books that are way more hyped get the hype.. it must be the marketing or something.. because this book.. nobody seems to mention it, but it’s the best one i’ve ever read. Why? Because it has all the methods you can use on yourself + the science behind why the method works + case studies. Amazing work.
A read I will always remember! Traditionally sceptical about hypnosis, the book definitely opened my mind. I am much more aware and reflective of my mindset and self-intelligence in general. Thought provoking, case study based (which makes it highly relatable) and humourous at times. It took me a while to get through this one so I highly recommend to savour this book.
This book is an interesting look at the brain and how we can make it work better for us. Using scientific methods and common sense this book twists through ideas to improve your brain function including humorous cartoons and quiz’s to help you pick up and understand the chapters.
Well-balanced approach to self-improvement, incorporating understandable science to back up claims. Quiz questions in each chapter to test comprehension promote memory. Definitely recommended.
I liked this book. I learned a few new things and enjoyed some of the facts rooted in science. Overall, a positive book with some good advice on how to improve your life and achieve goals.
