Jake Walker's inspiration in life was his Grandfather Bert. There was always a special connection between the two. This became even stronger when Grandad Bert was forced to stay at the family home due to poor health. When Bert knew that it was time, he needed a long-awaited discussion with Jake. Little did Jake know at the time, but this discussion would change the rest of his life. Jake felt very alone frustrated and scared about life in general. Every day was a challenge for him. His parents would praise his talented sister Kate but would reserve judgement on Jake. Bert was the one who really believed in Jake, where others failed to see any potential. Could Jake find the confidence to start believing in himself and convince others to start believing in him? Would Grandad Bert’s words of encouragement give Jake enough confidence and determination to look out for his family… In the same way that Bert did for them in years gone by? It only needs a little advice that could make all the difference to somebody else’s life. Could Jake make this work for him? A story about love and heartbreak, along with a few simple words that can be enough to completely change somebody’s life ….…. forever.
I started writing in 2004. This has since become my hobby. The books that are currently available are Identified, Revenged, Distant Cries, The Lift (Short Story) and Maggie.
At present, I am currently writing my latest novel called "Touched" of which will be released later this year.
I do not have a facebook account, but do have a link to Twitter @holte77 and my own website - www.markdradford.co.uk.
Like most authors, the big time is the ultimate dream. I am by no means a professional writer and certainly no proof reader, but somebody who has a few stories to tell. It is nice to be able to switch off and away from any negatives on a day to day basis and then drift off into my own space to write.
A writing course educated me in thinking that nothing is poor, nothing is bad. The people that reflect on such things are purely suggesting that their opinion differs to others.
Also, a writer should not write for the view of others, a writer should write for themselves and they will eventually create their own audience.
There aren't enough stars to give to this book. Love love loved it. I finished reading it two weeks ago and still can't stop thinking about it. Jake I totally fell in love with as a little boy then continued to love him as he became a man.
Such an emotive read, sending all my emotions into overdrive. I highly recommend this book. It will live on inside of me for a very long time.
Touched definitely lived up to its name as the novel really did touch my heart in so many ways. The story is about a man whose life was ultimately transformed because of a special gift that was passed on to him by his grandfather when he was still a teenager. I witnessed how Jake navigated his life carrying this secret with him as he grew up to be an adult. I found the story very engaging as it was written in a way that made me feel like the character was someone I knew intimately. The legacy that Jake’s grandfather left behind reflected in every decision he made in his life, and how he was able to confidently overcome every challenge and celebrate the milestones he reached. It was like he could feel his grandpa’s wise and loving guidance through this special gift.
In all of this, I feel the story is truly about Jake’s immense love for his family - how every decision he made was always for their benefit. I also recognized that the valuable learning instilled in him when he was a boy he was able to put to good use as he grew up - and it has molded him to be the person that he has become. The soul of the story centers on transformation, faith and trust.
After reading this book, my heart was brimming with warmth. It has entertained me and emotionally moved me as well. I’m sure many will love this book as the story is heartwarming and it can really fill up the heart. It is definitely a story that is worth your while.
I finally got to finish this book. So glad I did. It really is a book about life and how not to jump to conclusions and take a step back instead. So well written and a great understanding of how life should and could be. Thoroughly enjoyable.
