Lara left it all behind. The battles, the blood, and the sacrifices. She’s settled in a small seaside village along the Texas-Mexico border under an assumed name, determined to live out the rest of her life in obscurity.
She isn’t starting over alone. Keo is by her side. Together, they have made a good life for themselves. It’s an unexciting life. A quiet life. A perfect life.
Unfortunately, the world doesn’t leave you alone just because you want it to. The arrival of desperate men ruins everything, and Lara is forced on a journey across the countryside with Keo hot on her trail.
Keo has sacrificed too much to just let Lara go now. His skills might be a little rusty, but all it takes is one good kill to get the juices flowing again.
In Hollow, book 7 in the continuing Road to Babylon series, paradise is a hard place to find but even harder to hold onto.
Sisavath is a master in writing post-apocalyptic fiction
Another good book in the Road To Babylon Series but, like the other books in this particular series, it is not a stand-alone book in my opinion. If all you've read IS this series, you might not agree with me not knowing any better. But, if you truly want to enjoy these books, I recommend that you begin with the Purge of Babylon Post-Apocalyptic Series followed by the After the Purge Post-Apocalyptic Series. You will get to know and understand the characters from the beginning, you become invested in their stories, their survival, the sacrifices they've had to make, and the camaraderie and love they have for each other in trying to survive this post-apocalyptic world. Sam Sisavath is a master in writing post-apocalyptic fiction. If you are a fan of this genre and you haven't read Sisavath, you are missing out on hours of well-written storytelling. And Sam, I've read ALL your books now so you'd better be writing the next one...and the next one...and the next one...
I've read all of the series and enjoy it for the most part, especially the early ones with Danny and Will. Their relationship and the free-wheeling action makes the books a joy to read. My only wish is that the author would tone down the "Lara" obsession and heavy-handed fanboys he made out of Will and then Keo. It's hard to read the constant outpouring of sappiness without rolling my eyes (and I'm a woman). Maybe if she were a more compelling character, I could understand the sentiment.
I have been waiting for this book for a long time. I wanted to see the continuation of the Road to Babylon series to see what was to become of Lara and Keo. I wasn’t disappointed. I can’t wait to see what new challenges lie ahead. I also liked the new characters, especially Bunker. Hopefully I will catch up with Danny and the rest in a new addition to the series. I must say I still morn Will and Gaby immensely. It’s like loosing life long friends.
I've read every book in this author's series and I expect I will read the next book when it comes out. The story was okay but I didn't feel very invested in the characters. Basically I kept reading to see where the story was going, but as I sit here writing this, I honestly couldn't tell you. I just remember chase, tension, duck, shoot, ow, death, who? Sisavath is a talented writer, no argument, but I found myself skimming over (what seemed to me) like text added to fill page. For example, a character will repeatedly (and I mean REPEATEDLY) think about the same old problems, topics, what was, what can't be and catch phrases like "coulda, shoulda, woulda" and "that name was taken" were used ad nausea. I realize I'm sensitive that is something that bugs me and doesn't bother most people, but I do wish Sam would expand on his page fillers and clever repartee. Keo and Lara need to get over themselves, too. It's getting a bit old.
I like the story, it's just not the high drama and non-stop action I 'm used to in the other Purge books. For some reason the back-and-forth banter between Keo and Bunker struck me as annoying instead of witty. The plot was ok, just rather a dull book. Maybe it's a set-up for the next book where we find out if Owen was a Mercerian and what he did at Darby Bay when he hunts down Keo, Lara and Bunker for revenge (?). Hopefully the next book will be more in the old style. We seem to be leaving the ghouls behind, and I'd like to see more of them.
How many is this now? All the purge-related books have been good. This is in my top three. Very suspenseful and well-written as usual. I really couldn't wait until each new chapter appeared. About 60% through I made myself slow down a bit because I knew I'd just want the next book after this one finished.
What an amazing series. I read all seven books one right after the other. I hope there is another one! Such a good author. I fell in love with the characters and though a bit wordy at times it is still an excellent read. I highly recommend any books this author writes. But, you should read his Purge of Babylon series first. You won’t be able to put those down either!
I liked this book better than book #6. I felt like book 6 was a chore for him to write but #7 was again a good adventure. Sam is on my list of favorite author's and I look forward to New books.
The book was worth waiting for. Now need more stories from the Purge years after the walk out. Keo and Lara are like old friend's you haven't heard from in a while now waiting on the rest of the story
I felt the storyline was getting a bit tired in this installment. While I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, this book didn't seen to have anything really new going on. Hopefully it's just a setup for the next book. Something new needs to happen!!
A final goodbye to Babylon? Keo and Lara had another adventure that kept me turning the pages. I don't know what Mr. Sisavath has in mind for another chapter, but he did leave the door open. Hope its soon.
As always, Sam Sisavath doesn't disappoint. I like his well-written stories and the characters are fleshed out perfectly. I look forward to the next book! Keep it up Sam!
I missed Lara and Keo, it was so good to be reading about them again. I miss all the characters from Sam's books, especially Will and Danny. Thanks Sam for so your thrilling books!!
I have read all of the previous books since the very beginning and this was the one I found the most enjoyable. The flow, the newer characters as well as the development of Keo and Lara were just excellent.
Keo keeps chasing after Lara. Now he has to get her back.
What more could you ask? Keo and Lara are such a cute couple. Keo should have stayed home with Lara, but he had to go fishing! Now he's got to chase Lara all over Texas.
My favorites, in trouble again. Excellent storyline and the characters are so well defined by now that I can almost predict what they'll do in a situation. Nice to get a few surprises! Really good read!
I am re-reading this entire series and enjoying it even more than the first time. Wonderful characters and dialog. Never a dull moment. If you want an excellent read. This is it!!
Good story that had only one gun battle with ghouls, and that a minor one. This was more of a clash between Lara and Keo and a group of ec-Mercerians over how they kidnapped Lara and another woman from the small settlement she and Keo had found after the Darby Bay attack and aftermath in the previous two books. My guess is that their plan to ride off into the sunset will be interrupted again by the conflicts in the wider post-Purge world. I hope they get back with the rest of the Black Tide gang and make the new world a safer place for all the survivors.
