Driving a limo wasn’t Taylor Finn’s first career choice, but stunt driving wasn’t exactly paying the bills. When she finds herself chauffeuring a drunk guy harassing his date, she leaves him stranded and is sure she’s going to get fired.
Iris Fleming’s flight to Atlanta was a scene from a disaster movie, the scariest landing ever. She’d desperately wanted a part on a new sci-fi series, until the director made a pass at her. Now Iris doesn’t want the role and has no intention of getting back on a plane.
Making their escape from Atlanta, Iris and Finn end up at Hideaway Haven, in neighboring cabins. Iris isn’t sure what’s scarier, sexy Taylor Finn or woodland nighttime noises. But maybe they can help each other out. There are jobs for stunt drivers in L.A. and Iris needs a ride. Wrong turns, and roadside hijinks ensue as Iris and Finn set off on a road trip, chasing the sunset, and falling for each other along the way.
Missouri Vaun is a two-time Golden Crown Literary Society award-winning lesbian romance writer published by Bold Strokes Books. FOREVER'S PROMISE is Vaun's latest, a historical romance. Wes dresses as a man for property rights. Will she risk it all for love?
Vaun spent a large part of her childhood in southern Mississippi, before attending high school in North Carolina and college in Tennessee. Strong connections to her roots in the rural South have been a grounding force throughout her life. Vaun spent twelve years finding her voice working as a journalist in places as disparate as Chicago, Atlanta and Jackson, Miss., all along filing away characters and their stories. Her novels are heartfelt, earthy; speak of loyalty and our responsibility to others.
3.5 Stars. This one is a little hard for me to rate. Parts of it I really enjoyed, others drove me nuts. Vaun’s books normally have a comfortable and familiar feel to them. I’m not sure if that is because I have read most of her books but she is one of those authors I feel like I would know her writing even without having a cover on her book. However, that was not always the case here and it startled me a bit. While yes there were parts that felt like classic Vaun, there were too many parts that didn’t feel like signature Vaun to me. And I hate to say it but those were the parts that I didn’t enjoy as much.
I’m a big fan of Hollywood and celebrity romances. This is why I grabbed this book and it was one of the aspects that I enjoyed the most. Vaun did a good job of building chemistry between two mains that were two very different people. The actual romance was enjoyable and I liked the obvious sparks between the two. The sex scenes were nice and steamy so no complaints there either.
The main issue I had with the book was lack of communication. It really is a pet peeve of mine and these two characters took it too an extreme. One of the mains made a comment that the other main didn’t do small talk and only talked about big important things. I wanted to laugh because not only did the characters not make small talk, they didn’t talk at all! There is barely any dialogue in this book between the two mains which is crazy considering part of this book is about a road trip. A road trip nobody talked on. There was no doubt these two women set off sparks around each other. This was a relationship based on mutual attraction and hot sex, which is fine for reading about a good hook-up, it’s just harder to believe in a potential long-term HEA when two characters don’t speak to each other. And of course when the time for the angst came, shocker, it was all due to the character not communicating. It drives me nuts when people can’t take the time to say two sentences, it was just a big shaking my head moment.
As you can tell from my mixed reactions this is not an easy one for me. I don’t know if I can flat out recommend this, but I did enjoy parts enough that I would not warn people to stay away. The characters had good chemistry and the book was very readable. I just wish there wasn’t multiple parts that drove me nuts. I think if you are new to Vaun I would recommend Love at Cooper's Creek over this book, but you might enjoy this one too.
I wish I liked the book as much as I liked the cover!
The good: characters were fun, likable and sexy .. there was a lot of food involved at a certain point I got hungry and craved burgers, pizza and fried chicken :) and lastly the sexual connection was very strong! I have to give it to the author, the scenes were very hot ! The cover! Now that in itself is something I need to mention as a “good” part of the book :)
The not so good: I got so bored during the road trip, which was the main part of the story. I mean one would expect such a long road trip will have so much more drama, action or just anything other than driving around with nothing special happening there.. The book needed more conversations between the MCs.. It felt like they were “in lust” as opposed to “in love” which is actually ok I guess but I didn’t feel the love there that much!
Overall I would recommend this read on a very very lazy Sunday with not a lot of high expectations. Missouri is a good writer I have to admit that, so you won’t be bothered in any way. It’s just that you won’t be blown away ! “I received an ARC for an honest review.”
I’m very happy to say that I liked this book quite a bit. Missouri Vaun is Paige Braddock’s pen name and I’ve had the privilege to interview Ms Braddock a few years ago. She’s one of the kindest people I’ve interviewed in my 20 years or so as a journalist. I’ve always loved her Jane’s World comics and I was excited to see her try her hand at novels. But the first ones I read didn’t work for me, so I abstained from reading more for a while.
Yet when I saw this one, I thought it might be time to try again, and I’m glad I did.
The story is 4, the characters are at least 4, the writing is more of a 3 or a 3.5. It’s a bit abrupt at times, making the reader want a couple more words.
Iris is a struggling actress living in Santa Monica, California but trying out for a part in Atlanta, Georgia and everything that day is going wrong. Finn is a limo driver hoping to one day become a stunt driver. When they first meet, Iris throws a glass of water all over Finn. As luck would have it, they meet again when a black bear scares Iris and Finn invites her to spend the night at her cabin. They spend the next day – which happens to be Iris’ birthday – together, have a lovely time then decide to drive to California together.
Both women are at a time in their lives when they feel like they need a break to finally make it. They’re both vulnerable and sensitive, which makes both for sweet romance and miscommunication. At some times I felt like shaking one, then the other, to make them open up to each other. But I loved the chemistry between them.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read, and the whole road trip idea was excellent.

Finn is a car service driver in Georgia. Iris is an actress visiting Georgia to audition for lead in an upcoming series. They end up meeting, spending some time together, and then deciding to drive across country to California where Iris lives and because Finn wants to follow her dream to become a stunt car driver.
I expected this to be more of a road trip book. But it wasn't a huge part of the book in the grand scheme of things. That was good and bad. Good because I enjoyed reading about the side roads they took and different places they visited. I've been all over the U.S. Everywhere except for the South where this was based. It made me want to plan a trip that way. Bad because there was too much time spent on the flip sides of the trip.
Finn and Iris drive across country together and things get hot. I'm not just talking between the sheets. The car they drive has NO AIR CONDITION. Sorry. But that would be a big fat NO for me. But between the sheets was not too bad. Or by the car at a deserted gas station. Or in the bathtub, either. There are a lot of miles to explore between Georgia and California.
California ends up to be a bit of a challenge. Some drama ensues at 80%. The author gets me crying when one character decides to be an immature baby.
The settings were nice, the characters were cute, and the relationship was sweet yet fragile. I liked this book. It was quick and mostly light read. However, I do wish that Iris would have called Finn 'Taylor' just once, at least.
I recommend this to people who like romance, the South, road trips, actors, cars, and ice cream.

I enjoyed reading this for the most part but it isn’t very much to the story. Iris Fleming is in Atlanta to audition for a part in a series. Taylor Finn lives on the outskirts with her parents who rent out cabins. Finn loves driving and dreams of becoming a movie stunt driver. Meeting Iris makes her more determined to follow that dream. A cross country roadtrip has them getting to know each other better
Essentially, I felt the story was too long for what little plot there was and this could have been a really nice novella or short story. Iris and Finn are both nice enough and had great chemistry. The road trip was a little like a travelogue which is not one of my favourite genres.
This all sounds a like I didn’t really like it but I did even though it was a little slow. It’s simple and sweet and doesn’t require much concentration which is exactly what I needed.

Iris Fleming is a Hollywood actress most famous for a Super Bowl Doritos’ commercial. She is flying to Atlanta to read for a part in a series that could finally give her the break she needs when the director makes a pass at her and all is thrown into disarray. She flees the city and ends up renting a cabin next to area native Taylor Finn. Finn’s parents own the cabins and she has been living there for a year saving money to pursue a stunt driving class in California. The two women hit it off and circumstances align so they agree to drive west together. The main’s relationship continues to flourish but as the end of the trip is in sigh, so are their individual insecurities and failures, pulling them apart.
This is a butch/femme romance that mostly takes place over 2 weeks or so. The chemistry between the mains is there and both are likable enough. So what is wrong? The story was happy sailing until the storm hit at 81%. I’ve never been focused on the 80% mark buy boy that was right on target. The reason for it was on the silly spectrum for two people that had such a strong connection. A little communication guys! Finn came out on the other side looking immature. Also, for someone who had such a strong desire to become a stunt driver, she seemed misinformed about it, making her question her dream. The trip itself bored me some but I suspect people familiar with the area will enjoy reading about it.
I’ve read ‘Love at Cooper’s Creek’ by this author and really enjoyed it. Perhaps I had too high expectations for this one. The writing was solid as expected by such a good author and I would not hesitate to read another one of her books.
The cover of this book is fantastic and what, along with the author, made me grab the book. Wonderful job by Tammy Seidick, I’m fast becoming a fan of hers.
Overall an okay romance book with good chemistry between the mains. 3.5 stars

3.75 stars - Chasing Sunset by Missouri Vaun is a good beach read. The story is enjoyable and the writing is smooth enough that you keep turning the pages without thinking about it.
Iris Fleming goes to Atlanta to audition for the main role in a sci-fi TV series. At 30, if she doesn’t get a break in her career soon, she might have to reconsider her options. She believes this is her last big opportunity to prove what she’s worth as an actress, but a bad encounter with the series’ director makes Iris doubt that she could take on the role if she gets it. Taylor Finn always had a passion for cars and wanted to be a stunt movie driver. To save up for driving school down in Los Angeles, she drove rich clients in the Atlanta area. Having just been fired from her limo driving job, Finn realizes this might be the push she needed to finally chase her dream. When Iris needs a way back to LA, Finn offers they drive up together.
Going into this, I was a bit apprehensive because I had seen a few reviews mentioning a definite lack of communication between the two main characters. Even though I can understand their point of view, I wasn’t as bothered by the miscommunication. Considering Finn and Iris have only known each other for about a week, I thought it was pretty normal for them not to voice all of their uncertainties and fears, and to question where they’re standing as a potential couple.
However, I wish the author had used the road trip part of the novel as an opportunity to strengthen their relationship. They definitely could’ve talked a lot more when they were on the road, and it would have been nice to see them go on little adventures as they drove across the country. That said, there is good chemistry between Iris and Finn, and there are quite a few sexy scenes throughout the book.
I got to mention, there’s a scene when they’re staying at a Super 8 hotel, and Iris suggests they have a bubble bath. I don’t know if it was supposed to be sexy, but my brain was screaming “OH GOD, NOOOO!” There’s nothing sexy about a hotel bathtub, IMO. Yikes!
Overall, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. There’s something I love about celebrity/small-town girl romances, and it ticks a lot of my boxes. I will definitely check out other books by Vaun.

There is something about Missouri Vaun’s writing that I just love.
It may be because we both have Southern roots and that shows up sometimes in her writing through her word choices as well as the settings of her books. It also could be because she is such a great author. Probably both reasons.
Whatever the reason, Chasing Sunset, her latest novel, gave me that feel-good feeling as soon as I began to read. The story is set in Georgia at the beginning of the story, partly in Atlanta and also in a small community just north of Atlanta in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is the tale of Iris Fleming and Taylor Finn. Iris is an actor from L.A. She is heading to Atlanta to read for a possible role in a new television series. Her day begins badly with her plane almost crashing on landing and escalates when the series director makes a pass at her. Finn lives in Watts Mountain, a small community north of Atlanta and drives a limo for a living, at least until she leaves one of her riders stranded on the side of the road for making a drunken pass at his date in the back of the limo. Her dream job though is to become a stunt car driver in the movie industry. Iris and Finn’s first meeting is less than ideal since it comes at the end of a bad day for both, but fate seems to keep throwing them together. There is undeniable attraction between the two, but their lives are so different, and they live so far apart.
This is a lovely summer romance. It has all the elements that you want in this type of novel; beautiful characters, great chemistry, lovely settings, and best of all, a nostalgic road trip across the country. I really enjoyed the road trip. That part was especially well-written. The story itself is sweet with a little angst and a lot of steamy romance. If you enjoy a good summer romance, try this book.

I’m struggling a bit with how to review this. I definitely didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. It just falls in between I guess.
Here we have MC Finn, who drives a limo but dreams of being a stunt driver and MC Iris who is a actress. She’s in Georgia to audition for a part and when that goes awry she ends up staying at Finn’s parents cabins. The two meet and spend two days together during which Finn rescues Iris from a bear and they go out for Iris’s birthday (those are pretty much the highlights). This takes up the first third of the book.
Through a pretty lame contrivance they then end up on a road trip together. The road trip itself is just full of mind numbing passages about where they go and what they eat broken up by sex scenes, but no real dialogue between the characters (way more tell than show). That’s the next third.
The final section of the book is made up of the obligatory breakup, this time caused by a really dumb miscommunication, which then leads to some endless waffling by both characters before they decide to pull on their big girl pants and eventually manage their HEA.
Honestly, it just felt like nothing was happening for large parts of this book. I was bored more often than not. Maybe I just needed to be in a better mind frame to read this or something but it didn’t grab me. It’s not awful, but it’s not great either. 2.5 stars rounded up.
I have only read one other book by Vaun - Spencer's Cove - and I have to say I didn't enjoy this one as much. I actually thought it was slow and a little dull. There is Taylor Finn and Iris Fleming in this one. Finn is a limo driver who wants to be a stunt car driver and Iris is an actress from California who is looking for her big break. These two meet in Atlanta after Iris tries out for a part in a new sci fi series. These two eventually decide to drive cross country (back to LA) so Finn can go to driving school and Iris can get back home.
So most of these one takes place on the drive to California. Overall, I thought both MC's were pleasant, but they didn't really share much with each other. I didn't feel much chemistry between them. Sure they were attracted to each other, but for me that didn't equate to chemistry. There are few good sex scenes in the book which helped out the story line, but for me it wasn't enough.
Meandering summer read. Yeah, that is the word for this read. Both Taylor Finn the car enthusiast and Iris Fleming the aspiring actress are both looking for something. On the surface, this is a light entertaining read. But if you look a little closer and think a little deeper, there is some self-talk worth thinking about. Two women that do not like where they are and think they know how to maneuver out of the rut but lack the push or gumption to make it happen. Indirectly, Taylor and Iris are the catalyst for each other. Taylor is comfortable and at ease but she knows she should be doing more for self and her happiness. Iris is not comfortable with where she is because she feels stuck in the rut of stereotype. Though I was a bit bored with the road trip (I thought so much more was going to happen), it was fun to see the places through their eyes.
A semi-brity romance, this one is a fairly okay read. The MCs are an actress stuck in girl-next-door/friend/murder victim zone in her career and wannabe stunt driver working as a limo driver.
Finn’s dream is to be a stunt driver and the best schools are in California. Iris is best known for her Doritos commercial but wants a more serious role. They meet under strained circumstances and decide to travel together across country. They fall for each other and start sleeping together. Finn has her dreams crushed and she turns tail and heads home. Iris can believe they can’t make it through one fight. Great romance with a lot of heat. Keira Grace was wonderful with her narration. Love Missouri Vaun.
Gorgeous cover! This is a great summer road trip story with a celebrity/commoner theme. Missouri Vaun is a master of the butch/femme trope and this one is no different. The chemistry between Finn and Iris is super hot, even if it's a little fast. Lots of aggravating miscommunication in the typical spot but it makes the reunion even sweeter. One thing I really liked is that Finn follows her dream and realizes maybe it's not all the dream was cracked up to be. Seems a lot like real life. A nice summer read.
“Chasing Sunset” is a fun roadtrip adventure, and as you know, I love roadtrips! As a matter of fact, a couple years ago friends and I drove the section of Route66 that the MCs drove. What fun!
MC Iris flew to Atlanta to interview for a television series interview, and has a near-death experience on the flight, and a near-rape experience with the producer. So…Atlanta isn’t turning out to be her favorite city.
MC Taylor has dreamed of being a stunt car driver, and since the best stunt car schools are in Los Angelos, she proposes Iris ride with her rather than getting on a plane again. (The meeting between the MCs was hilarious!).
Much of the book would be especially enjoyable if you’ve roadtripped. I nearly spit coffee when I laughed listening to them staying at “America’s Best Hotel”. We had to stay at one once, and it was absolutely the WORST hotel experience EVER! We’ve learned to plan ahead much better because of that dump!
Anyway, I was seriously crushing on femme Iris, and I was happy when she gave up waiting on Finn to make the first move, and initiated a “back massage” that quickly went further! Their first scene “together” was very well written, tender, and sexily explicit, with terrific narration!
This is a fun, slow burn romance between two likable characters, with the typical BSB angst BS thrown in for annoyance. 4* for “Chasing Sunset”.
Unfortunately this was not for me. It started off good enough. But the fact that the character didn't really talk was enough to put me off. It might just be a pet peeve of mine but it just bothers me too much to enjoy a storyline. But if there is not enough communication then it feels like a cheap solution to create tension and drama.
Besides that there would have been enough storyline for a good story. I did like the idea of combining the celebrity plot with a road trip. The chemistry of the characters was good.
Overall I never finished this book completely. Unfortunately, it just lost my interest. But who knows may be I just need to give this another try :)
3 days. This book was alright. This book is about Iris Fleming, an actress from LA who is auditioning for a part in Atlanta, Georgia. Her flight to Atlanta is terrifying, and she does not want get on another plan. Her audition does not go as planned when the director hits on her and tries to seduce her. After that, Iris just wants to go somewhere quiet and finds Hideaway Heaven. Taylor Finn's family owns the cabins, and Finn even lives in one of them. Finn dreams of being stunt driver and has to go to LA to do it. For now she is just a driver and settles. One chance moment with a bear and she spends time with Iris. They both feel connected and start to spend more time together. They eventually decide to drive to LA together, cross country, Iris to get home and Finn to start stunt driving classes.
The chemistry between the two main characters in this book was good, but I felt it evolved too fast. Iris and Finn did not spend that much time together and it evolved quickly. Finn's character seems a little two dimensional to me. The had good interactions but a lot of the book seemed to be in their head. The drama in the book seemed very dumb and just an excuse and not well thought out. Finn just bolts at hte first sight of trouble, and it seemed like a not great response based on how Finn evolved throughout the book. I did not like how it played out, without giving too much way. I would not recommend this book.
This was a fun read fit for a summer afternoon. It had humor, romance, plenty a very nice sex and of course the break up and reuniting. All very cute and sweet.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Finn is a limo service driver in Georgia who dreams of becoming a stunt driver. Iris is an actress from California visiting Georgia to audition for lead in upcoming sci-fi series.
Finn decide it's time to live her dream and Iris who really wanted the part in the sci-fi series decide she doesn't wanted it after the director made a pass at her.
When they meet Iris who needs a ride and Finn deciding to live her dreams decide to drive to LA where Iris lives and where their a driving school Finn wants to go to.
I like the main characters they well written I can tell they were attracted to each other and the few sex scenes was hot I just feel the chemistry wasn't there. I did like the side roads they took and different places they visited because I always wanted to do a road trip.
14 chapters and I can honestly say I don’t like either of the MC’s. Not even a little bit. That being said this is what I got out of this story so far. Iris Fleming’s acting career hasn’t turned out exactly like she had hoped. The only parts she has managed to get after 8 to 10 yrs is mainly commercials and some small parts on forgettable TV shows. But she is hopeful this part she is reading for will be her big break but after some problems dealing with the director she’s almost sure this part won’t be hers. So she gets ready to return to L.A. Taylor Finn's dream has always been doing stunt driving in either movies or TV. But dreaming is all she has done so far. In the meantime she works as a limo driver while living at home helping her parents sometimes with the upkeep of their hotel. Oh and she, along with her good friend Ward has spent a few years putting an old car back together. Iris’s and Finn’s first notice each other in a local diner. Finn thinks Iris is beautiful, while Iris thinks Finn is an abuser who’s sitting with her girlfriend making her cry. The young crying lady isn’t Finn’s GF but a client. But Iris doesn’t know that and before she leaves the diner she throws a glass of water in FInn’s face. That is what I’ve gotten out of this book so far and the idea of picking it up again is something I just can’t see myself doing. I’ve had the pleasure reading most of the books published by this author and have enjoyed spending my time doing that because her previous books have all been pretty good reads. I know that there are probably others who will pick up this book and think I’m crazy but we can’t all like the same thing all the time. Looking forward to reading Ms Missouri’s next book. ARC via NetGalley/ Bold Stroke Books
I definitely wasn't sure about this book, judging by the cover (terrible I know), even though I love Missouri Vaun, I was thinking it would be a lighter read. But damn this book was one of my favourite's of the year! It was warm and special and romantic and all around perfect! It was such an uplifting and feel good story.
Finn dreams of being a stunt-driver in LA. She drives a limo in Atlanta in order to save money to make her dreams come true. Then being fired and meeting the gorgeous and intriguing actress, Iris Fleming, lights a fire beneath her and brings the two women on a wild cross-country journey that shows them where they really belong.
Finn and Iris were amazing - gorgeous, strong and brilliant. I loved the way they supported each other and their chemistry was off the charts. They were such inspiring people both as individuals and their love story. I loved all the secondary characters, including Finn's family, and the real gems in Iris's world. The setting was heart-warming, and the cars (even for someone who knows next to nothing about cars) were super cool and added a really neat element to the story.
I loved this book and I look forward to reading whatever new adventure Missouri Vaun has for us next.
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I've enjoyed Vaun's contemporary romances and this was a nice addition to that category. Chasing Sunset is a nice lazy day read - its a romance with some humour and a good amount of chemistry between the leads. Finn is biding her time as a limo driver in Atlanta, building up her nerve and a nest egg, to strike out to Hollywood to become a stunt driver and Iris is an actress who needs to get back to LA after a rather disastrous audition for a new TV series. The two meet over a misinterpretation of Finn's actions (always a good way to start any kind of relationship by throwing a glass of water in someone's face ... but you gotta give Iris props for standing up for herself and the young woman at the diner).
The romance between the two is sweet and has a nice little build of both their characters ad their attraction as they tour around Finn's hometown. Once they are out on the road its a bit of 0 to 60 in seconds and no real "will they or won't they". :) Finn is confident, charming and attentive and there's little doubt as to why Iris would be attracted to her. Iris is smart and her confidence has taken a bit of a hit after the audition, but she's pretty level headed and realistic regarding her career and the life in LA.
Although the blurb and cover made me think that this was going to be mostly a road trip kind of book - the actual road trip was only a small part of the whole story and due to the fact that they were driving an old convertible through the southern states during summer, there wasn't much opportunity for the heart-to heart discussions you normally expect in a road trip.
I think Finn was the more detailed/fleshed out character - Iris seemed to have her shit together from the beginning, and her confidence improves as the novel progresses. Finn seemed to be searching for what she wanted to do with her life and when she found what she thought she wanted, it isn't all she expected. Finn seemed younger/less mature and some of her actions (especially the argument when in LA) just made me shake my head. Luckily she pulls her head out of her ass and there's a HEA (hey ... it's lesfic romance, there's always a HEA).
I'm not sure if I want to mark this as recommended - I like Vaun's stuff, but the massive miscommunication drove me a bit bonkers - both characters were kind of idiots during the big argument.
A road trip romance that is pretty much middle of the road. It’s a competent story and quite sweet in places, but it’s kind of a mundane read. I don’t know the USA, so I may be missing out on the evocativeness of all the place names and fun associations from imagining myself in the car on the road with one of the two leads. Team Iris for me. But even given my lack of USA knowledge, there didn’t seem to be much of a spark in the romance. I do kind of like the reality check of the Hollywood career, but that also grounded the story. It’s an ok read, but there’s nothin special or grab worthy in the book.
Missouri Vaun's latest novel "Chasing Sunset" is a fun and enjoyable ride off into the sunset. Colorful characters, laughs and a sweet romance blend together to make a tasty read. Two main characters: Taylor Finn, a limo driver who has dreams of becoming a stunt car driver and aspiring actress Iris Fleming who is in Georgia to read for a part. After the audition with a hands-on creep in what could have been a sexual assault, she decides to stay in a cabin that the studio did not pay for, just in case he comes looking for her. In the cabin next door is Taylor, who comes to her rescue when a black bear comes calling. Long road trip to California, the two fall in love along the way. The only critique I have is immediately after the would-be attack, why the hell didn't she warn the next actress who was walking into the room with the creep?

Hmm I could not get into the book as much as I thought or would have liked. I don't know I did not feel the chemistry between them. I actually thought Fine was a very boring character for me and so not fit to be with Iris. The drama around the end could have been interesting but i feel like the author wanted to have light drama throughout the book. it's well written book but not my cup of tea. However i can say that i enjoyed the read to some extant. and i finished the book regardless.
I usually only read butch/femme storylines, or any storyline that has at least one masculine lesbian in it. I've tried femme/femme and I can't connect to the romance part of it. Maybe it's because I'm not sexually attracted to femmes and that's why I need a cute boi or a strapping butch to keep me interested. However, with that being said, once in a while I'll read a book starring a femme who doesn't drive me to drink, and Iris was one of them. She was the kind of gal who you wanted to hang with. She was cool, calm, go-with-the-flow, lets her hair get messy, I'll throw a drink in your face if you're breaking another girls heart, kind of girl. I really liked her, and you will too.
Don't worry, there was a butch in here just as cool and cool looking, too. Taylor Finn, or Finn. Oh, yum. What is it with butches who know their way around a car engine dressed as James Dean that is just so damn hot?
This was a simple love story that was fun, sexy, and sweet.
I enjoyed the book quite a lot. I have read a few romance novels featuring people in the movie industry recently, and I feel that the handling of Finn's Hollywood dream was fairly realistic.
Iris Fleming wants to make it big as an actress, and an audition brings her to Atlanta. After a terrible encounter with the director, she runs into Taylor Finn, a wannabe stunt driver. Despite getting off on the wrong foot (Iris throws water in Finn's face), the two of them end up enjoying a day together. When circumstances prevent Iris from flying back to LA, the pair decides to embark on a road trip across the country.
...And that's as far as I got. I really could not get into this book. From the start, I knew it wasn't for me, but I persevered through 18 more chapters, and now I'm ready to definitively say - "I quit."
The main reason - The writing! This author's writing style may work for some, but it did not vibe well with me. It felt like she wrote this with a thesaurus next to her. There are only so many different ways to say the same sentence, and Missouri Vaun employed many of them. A lot of the wording just seemed repetitive, which is probably why I got kind of bored. I'm also a big believer in showing, not telling, and I wish Missouri Vaun had just shown me the chemistry and the tension between the two MCs rather than expounding on it in great detail from both Iris and Finn's POVs.
Other reasons - The dialogue. There was too much included, like every hello and goodbye, but nothing that really held my interest. I wanted to hear them flirt, but instead they talked about car machinery and what landmarks they were passing. - The characters. Up to the point where I stopped reading, neither of them was particularly likable to me. Apparently they're both really attractive, but that's pretty much it. There were some good characteristics that Iris and Finn apparently saw in each other, but I had trouble seeing them. - The pacing. The road trip starts around the halfway mark, and the first half of the book takes place over 2 or 3 days. Which is to say, the plot dragged a bit. Again, I wish there was a bit less detail on the mundane, and more spice.
I hate to write a negative review, and I see that there are actually many positive responses to this book. I think Missouri Vaun's writing, or maybe this book in particular, is just not for me.

Both realize that they will never fit in each other’s lives and the relationship ends, or does it? Is there a way these two women can get back together and find some commonality in where they can live and work?
This is the well written book and beside the excellent character development what I like best about the story was the description of the country as the two women drive from Georgia to California. I could visualize each stop along the way . As I visualized the beautiful landscape I could also visualize their intense love for one another developing.
